Stay calm - Zuma “
”
“I am not a dictator” - Pres Jacob Zuma. Pres Jacob Zuma has urged the community of Malamulele to approach their demand for a separate municipality with caution. He addressed the Malamulele Task Team (MTT) and other stakeholders that are supporting the campaign for a separate municipality during a meeting held at a local church in the area last
Wednesday. The meeting took place shortly before a political gathering, where Zuma was booed by an angry crowd. In his address to the MTT, Zuma said it is difficult for him to give a specific answer about the issue, while having no details. “As president I am concerned about the anger of the Malamulele

people. I am happy now that I have a detailed report from the MTT, who is is busy finalizing the report on this matter. Let’s wait for that report to be finalized before we make any announcement,” said Zuma. He was responding to the demand made by leaders of the Malamulele community, who urged him to give them
their own municipality, independent from Thulamela, but under Vhembe District Municipality. Hosi David Nxumalo, a senior traditional leader in Malamulele area and chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders in Vhembe, said: “Malamulele deserves to have its own municipality, because it is a vast area. in this area is being compromised because it is so big. We will always support the ANC, but we want an assurance that our problems will be attended to,” said Nxumalo. Pastor Maluleke, who spoke on behalf of the religious community, said Malamulele was in poverty because of poor service delivery. Continues on p2 Ad designed by Zoutnet Publishers

People must address concerns in a proper manner
Is this the biggest pig? Reekie Moyo of Musina slaughtered his threeyear-old pig during the Easter holidays. “As a farmer, this is the biggest pig I’ve ever had. It weighed 210kg,” he said.
(From P 1) “The ANC has liberated the country, but in Malamulele we are not liberated,” said Maluleke. Mr Lemson Maluleke, on behalf of the business community, said the concerns of the Malamulele community needed both political and administrative intervention. Dr Isaah Ndlambi, spokesperson for the MTT, said he believed Zuma was going to attend to their concern. Zuma said he was happy that the community leaders were addressing their concerns in a proper manner instead of resorting into violence like had happened before. He said it was advisable not to take a firm stand on the issue as it was still under examination. “In issues like this, always leave room for disappointment as someone might come up with a different view that can outweigh yours,” said Zuma. He also said the community should have a user-friendly approach on the matter and avoid using threats. “Let us create an environment that will make this process run smoothly. Even if you can say that you want answers from me
now, it will be difficult for me to make a pronouncement, as I am not a dictator,” said Zuma. He repeated his stand to a hostile crowd in his address at a packed Malamulele stadium last Wednesday. The residents heckled Zuma and shouted “Hilava masipala” (We want a municipality). About the booing of the President, members of the community have various views. Some said Zuma was booed because many of the people did not understand English when he addressed them. Last year, people in Malamulele went on the rampage and looted various shops and set them alight to express their anger
while demanding their own municipality. After Zuma had left the stadium last Wednesday, the community went on the rampage, barricaded roads with burning tyres and threw stones. A heavy police presence, however, managed to calm the situation. At the time of going to press, Nxumalo said the leadership of the MTT was still busy discussing the issue with the relevant stakeholders before they could formulate their comment on the President‘s response. “What I can say now is that we think there is progress in the matter, and we are still discussing it,” said Nxumalo.

“Why should the Vhavenda vote ANC?”
I
n all previous general elections, the Venda area gave the ANC more than 90% of its votes, but in return, the voters received this in return: Venda is the only place within the Limpopo Province whose national roads have been subjected to tolls. Not in one but in two places; Venda is the only area in the Limpopo Province whose university is headed by a foreigner and whose teaching staff consists of 40% foreigners or above, as though Venda and the rest of South Africa do not
have citizens equally qualified or better still; Venda is the only place where a dam, worth five billion rand, is constructed and has never supplied water to its people; Venda is the only area in the Limpopo Province whose area was used by the previous government to create a Tsonga Authority and which the present government is not moving an inch in restoring, even though the Ramatlhodi government started moves to do something about. It is the only place where
a premier plans to establish municipalities in terms of tribal connections even when the ownership issue is still unresolved. Venda is the only part of South Africa without ministers in the central government. There is not even a meaningful representation in the Provincial Government. This is the truth and nothing else, so why then should poor Vhavenda vote for the ANC if they are sober minded? - Mr LB Magolane, Thohoyandou

Sports Development Centre for school Officially opened, the new sports development centre of Louis Trichardt High School will aim to become the home of future sport stars. “We are going to create magic here,” said Mr Tobias Fourie to the Limpopo MEC for Education, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi and her delegation, who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, 16 April. As part of their sports development plan, the school has identified 100 athletes who will participate in the programme for free. Other pupils can join in the programme at a reasonable monthly fee. Pupils from surrounding and local schools – primary or secondary – are also welcome at the centre.
By including pupils from outside schools, the sports centre hopes to fulfil a future dream of developing into a centre for the whole of Vhembe - a vision that MEC Magadzi welcomed. “The students will not only perform better athletically, but will also be better academic performers,” said Magadzi. “We are looking forward to seeing our pupils become international sport stars because it starts here,” she added. Members of the public are still welcome at the school, but the centre is reserved for school pupils to improve their athletic abilities between 14:00 until 17:20 in the afternoon. During this time they will undergo training to give them a better competitive edge,
whether they participate in rugby, netball, athletics or hockey. In charge of the centre is Mr Felix Malan, who is also a local CrossFit-athlete. “We want to create a professional athlete who will have the ability to become a professional sportsman,” said Malan during a quick tour of the centre’s facilities. Students will not just receive weight training, but also cardio training. “Students will not repeat the same exercise programme every day; they will be doing different exercises to help them gain speed, stamina and strength,” Malan added. “Watch out, we are training hard,” was the warning that the training athletes had for their rival schools.

Firefighters were on hand to douse any remaining flames from the taxi that had burst into flames after crashing into a tree.
The Easter weekend got off to a tragic start with a gruesome taxi accident that left eight people dead along the Thohoyandou road last Thursday evening. The eight were trapped in the wreckage of the minibus taxi they were travelling in and all burnt beyond recognition. They were the first deaths to be reported at the commencement of this annual weekend of carnage on the country’s roads. According to local police spokesperson WO Takalani Madzhigili, preliminary investigations would suggest that speeding and fatigue could be the possible causes of the accident. He added that the possibility that the driver was swerving to avoid a pothole in the road could not be ruled out as a possible cause. The taxi was travelling from Pretoria to Thohoyandou when the accident occurred. After swerving off the road, the taxi crashed into a massive tree next to the road and burst into flames. Seven passengers managed to escape the fatal fire and were rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital for treatment. By Monday, three of the survivors had already been discharged. At the time of going to press, the Limpopo Mirror had learnt that some of the family members of the deceased had already been contacted. They were
expected to identify their loved ones’ remains at the Tshilidzini Hospital on Tuesday. Other family members, who have still not come forward, are urged to contact the Makhado SAPS to make the necessary arrangements. In the meantime, the Limpopo MEC for Roads and Transport, Lehlogonolo Masoga, visited both the bereaved families and the victims of the accident. The spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport, Jimmy Machaka, confirmed on Tuesday that 17 deaths were recorded for the province over Easter. Unconfirmed reports have it that 68 road accidents occurred during this time. According to Machaka, nine of the 17 deaths happened on Vhembe’s roads. Apart from Thursday’s accident, one person was killed after losing control over his
sedan, which then overturned in the sharp curve at the Witvlag junction along the N1 north. The accident happened on Monday. The remaining five occupants in the sedan escaped with minor injuries. In another accident, a taxi driver lost control and veered off the road between Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and Polokwane. The injured were taken to various hospitals. The traffic authorities impounded the taxi as it was apparently not roadworthy.
Empty gurneys lay waiting on the ground near the burnt-out wreck of the taxi to transport the remains of the eight people who had perished in it to a mortuary. This gruesome accident happened along the Thohoyandou road on Thursday evening.

Condolences for victims of horror accident The MEC for Roads and Transport, Lehlogonolo Masoga, Vhembe District Mayor Tshitereke Matibe, Makhado Mayor David Mutavhatsindi and Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi visited victims of the weekend’s horror taxi accident at the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital on Tuesday. Eight people burnt beyond recognition in an accident on
the Makhado (Louis Trichardt) – Thohoyandou road next to the Albasini Dam on Thursday evening. Four passengers were also injured. “We are here as government because we know that these are difficult times for the families. We are here to offer our condolences. This no longer a family tragedy, but a national tragedy," Masoga said. He said the gov-
ernment was worried about the increasing number of accidents on the roads. “This is a serious concern as more innocent lives are lost on our roads. All stakeholders need to come together and work with the government to come up with initiatives aimed at decreasing the fatalities on our roads.” Matibe expressed his condolences to the family of the victims and said they would be sorely missed. He added that community members around the Vhembe area were deeply touched by the horror of the accident. “Understandably, it is very difficult to continue with everyday life after such a traumatic experience and the family is in need of support, “he said. Grandmother (83) killed with an axe A 29-year-old man, Mr Bongani Chauke from Mshiyani village outside Giyani, shocked the whole community on Saturday when he allegedly killed his 83-year-old grandmother, Mrs Miluva Chauke, with an axe. It is alleged that Chauke accused his grandmother of bewitching his mother, who was buried on the same day.
She had died after a short illness. According to the police, the man took an axe and allegedly hit his grandmother on the neck. She collapsed and died on the scene. The attacker fled from the scene but was later arrested by the police. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto confirmed

Prayer service for grief-stricken families Grief-stricken families and relatives of the Easter weekend’s gruesome accident victims received solace and comfort when the Limpopo government organized a prayer service for them. The service was addressed by Limpopo MEC for Roads and Transport Mr Lehlogonolo Masoga, officials from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) and Dr Maxwell Masakona of the Calvary Christian Church and was held at the Tshilidzini Hospital's main hall on Tuesday. Masoga was accompanied by the mayors of Thulamela and Makhado Municipality, Cllrs Grace Mahosi and David Mutavhatsindi, and the Chief Whip
of the Vhembe District, Cllr Tshifhiwa Dali. The accident killed eight people who were on their way to their families for the Easter weekend. This is the second horrific accident in Vhembe in three months. Two months ago, 10 people died between Thohoyandou and Malamulele when a minibus taxi carrying shoppers from Thohoyandou to the villages of Basani, Tshikonelo, Muraga, Shikundu and Mhinhgaville collided head-on with a bus from Malamulele. Three of the seven passengers who were admitted to a local hospital have been discharged. The dead have been identified as Octavia Muthaphuli (22) of
the incident. “The 52-year-old woman, Anna Chauke, died last week after a short illness and her funeral took place at Mshiyani village on Saturday,” said Otto. I mean this because I never threatened anyone, and I was never involved in those scandals,” he said. the allegations lodged against Sikhwari when he was still a councillor. He said that Sikhwari was no longer holding any position in the party and that he would remain just an ordinary member of the organisation until his membership expired at the end of May. “Sikhwari was suspended from the party during the time of the investigations, but at the end of March he resigned. Allegations need to be proven and as a party we took appropriate action,” said Smalle. According to Smalle, they heard that he had taken up membership of the ANC and it was even announced during a municipal council meeting that Sikhwari had joined the ruling party. Smalle said that the DA would like the authorities to investigate the allegations against Sikhwari fully. He added that the people who had complained about the possible fraud had been advised to take the matter further and lay charges with the police.

Body of gospel singer found in bushes
Mulalo reigns In an effort to groom and nurture football talent, while helping young people to refrain from engaging in delinquent behaviour, Madombidzha Arsenal FC held a beauty competition last Friday evening. In a glittering ceremony, beautiful young ladies paraded on a catwalk at the Makhado show grounds. After the girls had paraded in various items of clothing and showing their modelling talent, the judges ultimately announced the top five contestants. The beauty competition coincided with a fundraising for the community club to help the management recruit more young people to participate actively in sports. The coordinator, Mr Trinity Tshivhula, insisted that sport is a powerful tool to curb the scourge of crime. All the participants received merit certificates and electric kettles for participation. The queen, Miss Mulalo Sinthumule, went home with a four plate-stove, while the two princesses, Phathutshedzo Mudau and Phindi Thavhiwa, received microwave ovens.
The winners are: Miss Mulalo Sinthumule, first princess (left), Miss Phathutshedzo Mudau, the queen (seated) and Miss Phindi Thavhiwa, second princess (left).
Photographed during the event were, from left to right, Mr Elvis Phathela, Ms Khensani Khoza (one of the judges), Ms Phathutshedzo Mudau (winner) and Cllr Tebogo Mamorobela.
Members of the gospel fraternity in Limpopo are mourning the death of a well-known gospel singer and pastor, whose body was found in Giyani. The body of Nkhesani Thomas Makhubele of Mapayeni village was found in the bushes in Giyani. Multiple injuries were found on the body. According to the police spokesman, W/O Thomas Makhubele, it seems that the singer was killed on his way to Khetho Nxumalo, where the singer was renting a room. He was allegedly killed on Wednesday (16th), but he was only identified on Friday. “So far, no one has been arrested but we believe we will soon make an
arrest. We are also appealing to members of the public to assist us in order to bring the culprit to book,” said Makhubele. A family member and local councillor, Mr Jackson Makhubele, said the family was devastated about the singer’s death. “What worries us is that it was not a natural death, but he was killed.” He added that Makhubele had divorced his wife four years ago and he had also moved from his home village of Mapayeni and rented a room, where he stayed with his girlfriend. Makhubele has been singing gospel music for more than 15 years and his fans will miss his

R28 000 robbery case postponed again The trial in the infamous R28 000 robbery case couldn’t continue in the Sibasa Regional Court last Thursday (17 April) because the lawyer for one of the accused was not available. The four accused, Freddy Mulovhedzi (55), Fulufhelo Mulovhedzi (22), Ms Vhulahani Ndou (40) and Lufuno Mavhunge (29), appeared in court but their case was postponed to 8 May for the court to settle on another date for trial. It emerged in court that Fulufhelo Mulovhedzi’s lawyer was not able to attend the court proceedings. On a previous date, two key
witnesses, Ms Aluwani Mukwevho and Mrs Joyce Mukwevho, testified against two of the four accused in the case, Freddy Mulovhedzi and Mavhunge. The witnesses gave testimony relating to the incident on the night of 3 October 2012, when male intruders invaded their home and assaulted them, demanding the women’s club’s money. The accused, as it was heard in court, had assaulted the inhabitants with an iron rod. The two complainants, Aluwani and her mother, stated that they eventually gave in as they felt
great physical pain and handed the intruders the money. The R28 000 belonged to the women’s club, of which Mukwevho (sr) was treasurer. During his arrest, Fulufhelo Mulovhedzi was found in possession of a mobile phone which was stolen from the complainant’s house. Fulufhelo, however, claimed that the phone belonged to his father, Freddy Mulovhedzi. All the accused still maintain a plea of not guilty. Three accused are out on extended bail, while Freddy Mulovhedzi remains in custody.

“Take the future of Africa forward” The Tanzanian High Commissioner in South Africa, Ms Radhia Msuya, has urged South Africans to stand firm and take the future of Africa forward and upward. “The effort that all of us put into the liberation struggle in South Africa and in Africa should not be in vain. South Africa and Tanzania shared political ideas during the struggle for liberation,” she said during a public lecture at the senate chambers of Univen on Monday evening. She delivered the South African 20 years of freedom celebrations public lecture. The topic of the lecture was From Morogoro and beyond: Tanzania and South African relations. Msuya reminded the guests that while South Africa is celebrating 20 years of freedom and Tanzania 50 years of union, they must not forget where they came from and where they are today. The principal of Univen, Prof Peter Mbati, said Univen welcomed the lecture and said it was the vision of the institution to be a centre of tertiary education for rural and regional development in South Africa. “As a comprehensive institution, Univen offers a range of undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications in fields of study that are responsive The Tanzanian High Commissioner in South to the development needs of the South African Africa, Ms Radhia Msuya. region,” he added. No more dusty roads for Tshilamba The untarred streets in Tshilamba town in Mutale will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the R14.5 million from the treasury department for the tarring of Tshilamba town. The Tshilamba street-tarring project started in November last year and is expected to be completed in May this year, said Mutale municipal spokesperson Mr Thiathu Ravhura.
According to him, the project has so far created jobs for more than 15 formerly unemployed people from local communities. “We hope that, after the completion of the project, the good road network will uplift the economy of the Mutale local municipality and for businesspeople around.” One of the community members who is benefiting from the project, Ntsedzeni Nemalale of
Mulodi village, said the project had so far changed his life for the better because he used to be unemployed. “Now I can put food on the table for my family. It is just better for me and others to be part of the project as we are also learning various skills in road maintainance and tarring,” said Nemalale.

Pupils learn about the importance of nutrition A better way to ensure that you enjoy your day is to start by eating breakfast every morning. It would not only ensure that you have a good day, but also that you live a healthier life. This is one of the nutrition lessons learned by Mmlige Secondary School pupils last Tuesday in Ha-Kutama, Midoroni, when Red Hill Multi-faith independent school and Tiger Brands SA visited the school. During the visit, Tiger Brands taught pupils the value of eating breakfast every morning. Ms Thandeka Ngoasheng from Tiger Brands said their corporate social investment pillars were to educate communities about the value of nutrition, food security, hygiene and sanitation. “We are basically here to educate learners about the importance of nutrition and eating healthier food,” said Ngoasheng. All pupils were given staple-food parcels to take home. Ngoasheng said they usually visited rural areas, especially schools, where pupils were not exposed to those nutrition activities. Joining Tiger Brands were the pupils and teachers of Red Hill Multi-Faith Inde-
pendent School from Sandton in Gauteng, who were doing charity work as part of their school’s outreach programme. As part of this programme, Grade 10 pupils go to marginalised schools in rural areas or they visit orphanages. Ishara Govendor, a teacher from Red Hill, said the programme was meant to give children exposure and to show them other parts of the country. She added that the programme was meant to help not only the pupils of her school, but also the school they visited. “Through this programme, learners are exposed to other aspects of life and it helps them to learn about different cultures,” she added.

Realising that the number of rape cases in villages such as Tshisaulu, Phiphidi and Tshiombo were increasing, the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Programme (TVEP), in conjunction with the Safer South African Foundation, has organized a competition where the participants can sketch anti-rape posters. “We organized at series of workshops at the affected communities about where the victims can go and what they can do when they are raped. We also encouraged our communities to draw posters that show us more about the fight against
rape,” said TVEP’s community mobilization coordinator, Ms Nkhumiseni Tshivhase. She said her organisation had also organized judges for the drawing competition. Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony at the University of Venda Art Gallery a fortnight ago, the chairperson of the Safer South African Foundation, Dr Simon Farisani warned people who continued to rape that they would be sent to prison. “Our communities have decided to escalate the war against your crime of raping people, and you will suffer the consequences. People who rape must be rele-
gated to live outside the communities and be sent somewhere, because they don’t deserve to stay with us,” said Farisani. The overall winner, a Grade 11 pupil in Mphalaleni Secondary School, Phatutshedzo Sotshayo, was over the moon to learn that he had won the anti-rape drawing competition. He said he started learning to draw things like people and cartoons at an early age and he was also doing drawing as a subject at Mphalaleni Secondary School. The second prize of R750 went to Ms Thinavhuyo Muntwuu and the third prize of R750 to Engisani Chauke.

Theology

Study opportunity for students Mukhanyo Distance invites prospective theology students at Matsila Village (near Nkuzana) and the surrounding areas to enroll for a certificate or diploma course in theology. Mukhanyo Distance enables students to receive relevant, high-quality, holistic, affordable in-service distance training in theology. It provides Bible-based training opportunities and facilities to church leaders for church and community development in Africa. The course also develops church leadership and administrative skills in order to inspire kingdom vision and to support the growth and development of churches. An important aspect is to equip leaders, office bearers and members of churches to understand and apply the Bible correctly in their own environment. Mukhanyo Distance Masakona has been running for three years. On 10 May, they will move to a more centrally located venue, Theocentric College, at Matsila Village. Students are welcome to enroll either for the whole course (28 modules) or a single module. A module on the New Testament will start on Saturday, 7 May, at 9:30 at Theocentric College. This interesting module will concentrate on the human authors of the Bible, what happened to the original Bible, textual criticism and the authority of the Bible. The cost involved is R200 per module. A number of bursaries are also available which will enable students to study for R100 per module, most
probably the best offer in the country to study a course of such high quality. This amount includes all study material. Students follow by DVD the same classes that full-time Mukhanyo students attend. Distance students are assisted by well-trained facilitators. For more information, contact Dr Edmund de Beer (083 3911 065), Rev Norman Ligege (083 618 6419), Rev Nathaniel Muhadi (083 557 2367) or Rev Robert Makungo (082 441 4687).

New clinic for the Damani region The MEC for Roads and Transport, Mr Lehlogonolo Masoga, has officially handed over the new Damani Clinic to the community. The event took place at the clinic a fortnight ago. Masoga urged the community to take care of the facility “so that it can be used by generations and generations to come. Government provided this clinic to make sure that you get easy access to health services in your own village,” said Masoga. He also encouraged nurses to provide good service to the community. He reminded the community members about the importance of having good relations with the nurses.
According to Masoga, clinics are expected to provide 24-hour services to the community. He said the government wanted to make sure that patients were attended to anytime they went to clinics. “Gone are days when our people were told to come back the following day when they visited clinics during the night.” Mailausungwa Kennedy Tshivhase said he was happy that his community would get medical attention on their doorstep in a modern facility. He said he was also hoping that more services would be delivered to his people. Tshilidzi Maphangule, who is the additional member of Damani clinic board, says the old clinic was first built in 1996, following
the initiative of the late Chief Mudinda Ramagwede. When it started operating in July 2009, it was only serving the community during the day. The new building was completed late last year. It now serves community members from 11 villages. Before the clinic was built, community members used to walk for more than 15 kilometres to Makonde Clinic. One of the people who attended the function, Alidzuli Munyai, said: “I am happy that we are going to get 24-hour service. In the past, it was very difficult to get medical attention from the clinic after hours. I hope the new service will be implemented soon,” said Munyai, a pensioner.
The head of support services at Univen, Chief Nkhumbuleni Ratshitanga, urged students to use their library and to study hard. He recently addressed students during the opening of Library Week. He advised students that determination, a vision, confidence and to be focused are key elements for students to succeed. The president of the Univen Students Representative Council, Mr Samuel Mofokeng, said the university must update the library books, “because some outdated books are still housed on the shelves of our library. We also need more computers in our computer laboratories,” said Mofokeng. Social success for hip hop artist
Debut album for new gospel group
Many South African hip hop artists hardly manage to secure a following on the social networks, but Mizo Phyll has done it. This rapper, whose Facebook fan page boasts 24 354 likes, has proved that the hip hop genre is here to stay as it can articulate raw messages and also comment on social issues. “I use the spoken word, or rhyme for that matter, to express my innermost feelings,” he said. Born Livhuwani Ratshiungo some 28 years ago in Shayandima, Mizo Phyll discovered his voice when he was an ordinary tourism student at Bloemfontein some years ago. “In Bloem, people loved hip hop and the genre was in style,” he said. “Vhomurepa like Tuks and HHP were belting out rhymes in Setswana on radios, and everybody liked it.” When Mizo Phyll ascended the stage during impromptu gigs, people responded warmly, even though they couldn’t understand his language. He even managed to record two songs, Hu do luga and Tshikandeledzi but deledzi; soon calls reached him from rural Ven-
A new sensation in the gospel music fraternity is emerging with a mighty sound. After only three months of hard labour, the Nzhelele Gospel Group has already made its mark in local gospel music circles. Armed with their singing talents, 11 committed music lovers came together in January this year to form a powerful gospel group. Because they have many things in common, it became very easy for them to rehearse and finally release their debut album last week. Group leader Maumela Sebola, who stays at Rabali, says group members come from different villages around Nzhelele. “Before recording our album, we performed at funerals, weddings and community events to make sure that people were getting used to our music. The bookings were overflowing and it proved that people love our music. Our music is purely vocal, but we also add musical instruments in a few songs.” A carpenter by profession, Sebola says the name of their debut album is Mulamuleli and it contains 11 tracks. “We are happy that our songs are
da and Joburg, after he had MMSsed few friends, who also made the same mistake of spreading the messages via Bluetooth. “Everyone was speaking about Mizo, who rapped in Tshivenda – and both songs were inspirational,” he said. His first full-length album was recorded at Masana Records in Johannesburg, where he worked with Sandile, Necodermic and Menzi from Ho2. “I titled it Mapungubwe, after the world heritage site near Musina,” he said. Some community radio stations and the SABC radio acknowledged the emerging talent by giving his hit-song Vimba massive airplay. It was the second offering, My African Dream, which introduced him to a larger listenership. A most popular song from the very album is Venda’s Anthem, where he featured his contemporaries P Postman, Bellafonte and T-man Gavini. “I won a Tshima Award for Best Tshivenda Hip Hop with the song Muthu Wangu. The public voted for me,” he said of his 2012 Tshivenda Music Award kudo. Today Mizo Phyll gets bookings for more gigs than he can accommodate at a go. He recently shared the stage with musicians such as DJ Cleo, Zahara and Colbert Mukwevho during the Royal Spring Festival at Nandoni Dam. Asked what he does for a living, he quickly answers that he is a full-time artist. “The whole package which comes to me as a hip hop artist gives me strength to keep my head afloat,” smiled the hip hop artist, who is a vegetarian for health reasons. Mizo Phyll’s popularity with the people, particularly the youth of Limpopo, earned him the cult status of the foremost Tshivenda rapper.

We are happy under the wing of Miriri Music Productions, who are handling our music affairs with transparency. New secondary school for Tshikota The days when pupils used to be crammed together at Masedi Combined School, which has insufficient classrooms, will come to an end soon. This comes after the Department of Education approved the Tshikota community’s proposal for a secondary school late last year. So far, Cubic Professional Consultants and a contractor have been appointed and the work will start soon. “We tried hard to present our proposal to the Department of Education in Polokwane several years ago, but they advised us to first follow the procedures on registering a school,” said the chairperson of the school governing body, Mr Manthata Malima. Malima explained that the new Tshikota Secondary School will come as a great relief to indigent parents who have to take their children to distant schools since there are insufficient classrooms at Masedi Combined School. “They will use the money which they were spending on transport for something else now,” he said. The school will be built at a bushy spot near the first bus stop of the first road or entrance to the township. The spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mr Pitsi Maloba, confirmed that the school will be built in Tshikota in due course. "The aim of the department is to separate the primary and secondary levels at Masedi Combined School, so that we can have Masedi Primary School and Tshikota Primary School," he said. "The consultants have done a viability study to make the necessary findings about the whole project. We are only waiting for the adjudication committee to award the tender. The school will be built in due course."

House for Calvin The life of a poor, disabled community member and his three children in Tswinga village will change for the better, following the announcement that a new RDP house is to be built for them this financial year. The acting Vhembe District executive mayor, Cllr Lucas Manyuha, visited the disabled Mr Calvin Mutavhatsindi during a recent imbizo and found that two of his mud huts had fallen in and the heavy rains of 2013 left him and three children to share one mud hut. Manyuha promised that this financial year 100 new RDP houses would be built and that Mutavhatsindi was set to benefit. “We listen to the poor communities whose lives are in danger. We also distributed food parcels to our poor communities,” said Manyuha. The mother of the three children, Mashudu (19), Thuso (21) and Tshilidzi (27), died in 2006 and their father, Calvin, had a stroke which left most of his body paralyzed. Mutavhatsindi (66) said life was a nightmare because he cannot function independently anymore. “I am very thankful that The disabled Mr Calvin Mutavhatsindi of Tswinga village and other dignitaries, photographed the municipality has decided to build a house for next to one of his mud huts that were destroyed during the heavy rains in 2013. me and my children.”

Bail for suspects The Musina Magistrate's Court granted R5 000 bail to the two suspects who were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of explosives. The two Zimbabwean nationals, Victor Chaikambure (33) and Nicholas Mhlanga (34), were given bail on 17 April and their case was consequently postponed to 24 April for further investigations. The two suspects were arrested when they were driving along Le Hellco Street. According to the spokesperson for the Musina police, Const Dakalo Ramagwede, the police acted on information supplied to them by members of the community and pounced on the suspects during the afternoon of 10 April. “They stopped the suspects’ vehicle for a search,” Ramagwede said. “The police found eight capped fuse detonators and eight blasting cartridges stashed behind the driver's seat.” She added that the driver claimed ownership of the explosives and the two were arrested on the spot. The recovered explosives are estimated to have a value of R28 000. Chaikambure and Mhlanga appeared in court yesterday (Thursday). The outcome of the court proceedings was not available at the time of going to press.

Millions made available to fix the region’s roads
Ms Tintswalo Ndhovu (right) receives a certificate of appreciation for her contribution to the Water Quality and Waste Management project from the Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi. Ms Ndovhu was one of more than 100 volunteers who received certificates at Matsila a fortnight ago.
Members of the provincial executive committee met with the community at the Lutavha Sports Grounds in Duthuni a fortnight ago. The delegation was led by MEC Dikeledi Magadze, who acts as premier, and also included Transport MEC Lehlogonolo Masoga, Cogsta MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe, Safety Security and Liaison MEC Joyce Mashamba and Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Merrium Ramadwa. Mashamba first paid a courtesy visit to one of the senior traditional leaders in Vhembe, Kennedy Midiyavhathu Tshivhase, who is also a member of the provincial executive of the ANC in Limpopo. In conjunction with the Road Agency Limpopo, Magadze handed more than 30 pairs of shoes to needy pupils at Frans Ratshalingwa Secondary School. She also donated schools bags and school dictionaries to the pupils.
At the soccer grounds, the community raised issues such as accommodation for home-based carers, the high number of rape incidents, the tarring of roads to clinics, schools and graveyards. The bridge between Mapate and Lwamondo that had been washed away was of serious concern. Ntanganedzeni Mulalate, who spoke on-behalf of disabled people, said “many of us are still hidden at home.” He was also concerned about the lack of employment for disabled people and RDP houses that are disabled-friendly. The youth raised their concerns about the lack of employment, while a member of Sanco expressed concern about the high number of murder cases “that are not progressing. People lost hope in the police. We have no confidence in them as they expose us to the criminals.” The government was, however, praised
for providing houses and electricity in the area, even though it was revealed that some houses are still incomplete. Mmbangiseni Nemadzivhanani said water was very scarce in the area. Cllr Lucas Manyuha said water challenges would be addressed as soon as technical challenges had been addressed at Nandoni Dam. MEC Ramadwa said the provision of a clinic depended on the population and the distance from another clinic, while Masoga said the disaster fund would be used to fix all the affected bridges. He also said the provincial government would complete all roads built by municipalities. “We are going to use R19 million to fix potholes in the road from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) to Thohoyandou. The road from Elim to the N1 to Polokwane will be fixed soon. Another R270 million will be used to complete the tarred road from Makuya to Tshikondeni Mine,” Masoga said.

Thorny hurdle ahead of Rospa United Rospa United have a mountain to climb this weekend. Although their Safa second division match will be played at home, it will not be easy for them to collect maximum points. They will host one of the league title chasers, The Dolphins FC. Mr Joel Mongalo, head coach of The Dolphins, has put it clearly that their aim is to win all their remaining matches and take the league title to Seshego. On the other hand, Rospa

United are not easy to beat of late. They have been collecting points home and away in the past weeks. Joe Express will travel to Mokopane to play against Mosesetjane All Stars, but the match of the week will be staged at the Peter Mokaba Athletics Stadium in Polokwane. It will be between Magezi FC and Bellevue Winners Park. The two teams are in close contention for the league championship. Mighty FC will entertain Great North FC in their Polokwane der-
by at the Peter Mokaba Athletics Stadium. Lephalale Young Killers will meet Ray Pillars at the Seshego Stadium. It remains to be seen whether Basel FC will have the strength to stop Modimolle Aces. Basel are currently languishing at the bottom of the log with 6 points. Blue Rocks will host Dynamos at the Nkowankowa Stadium in their Mopani derby. Phungo All Stars meet Winners Park at the Mahwelereng Stadium.

The new, modern multi-purpose sports courts in the Kutama area will help to nurture the future sports stars of South Africa, said the Minster of Sports and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, during the recent handover of two multi-purpose sports courts. Addressing the community of Kutama-Tshikwarani at Muengedzi Senior Primary School two weeks ago, Mbalula said multi-purpose courts would assist young people to recognize their talents and reach their dreams. He urged young people to use the resources fully for their benefit. “Sport is important for your health; play while it lasts. It will help you

succeed in your education,” he added. Sports such as tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer and netball can be played on the multi-purpose courts. The sports facilities were built after the Rainbow All Sports Academy (RASA) from Kutama applied to the Sports Trust, which then applied for funds from the National Lottery Distribution Funds. The chairperson of RASA, Mr Thomas Mayisa, said they had already hired coaches to teach the young people and they would ensure that the facilities were maintained up to standard. “We will build a wall around these facilities to ensure that they are in a safe and secure area that is free from vandalism,” he said.

Points for Leopards? Black Leopards must win their weekend match against Milano United in order to keep their hopes of taking part in the promotional play-offs at the end of the season alive. They will fly to Cape Town where they will play against Milano at the Grassy Park Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Should they fail to collect the full points on Sunday, their chances to participate in the playoffs will be slim, especially if the other contenders, Baroka FC and Jomo Cosmos, win their weekend matches. Baroka FC are leaving no stone
unturned in their preparations for the weekend match. They will host Blackburn Rovers at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium tomorrow afternoon. While Baroka will be fighting for a place in the play-offs, it will be do or die for Rovers. Blackburn Rovers are one of the teams fighting for survival. Roses United will be lucky if they manage to hold Thanda Royal Zulu to a draw. They will rub shoulders at the Kaizer Sebotelo Stadium in Botshabelo. Should they drop points tomorrow, it will mean that they will be campaigning in the lower division
next season. Thanda Royal Zulu will easily collect the points at stake, when one takes their performance in recent league matches into account. Sunday will see Jomo Cosmos wrestling for league points with Sivutsa Stars at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa. Just like Baroka FC, Jomo Cosmos must win the match in order to keep their hopes of participating in the promotional playoffs alive. Witbank Spurs will take on Santos at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Witbank. Vasco da Gama and African Warriors will meet at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditshaba, while Chippa United will pay a visit to United FC at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday afternoon.

Jane tops in Two Oceans Marathon M Well-known Vhembe long-distance runner Jane Mudau (51) won the masters category of the Two Oceans marathon in Cape Town on Saturday. She finished the 56 km in 4:16:36. Jane, a mother of three, is a resident of Maniini village near Thohoyandou. She started to participate in long-distance running in 1997, under the leadership of the late Mr Muthivhi. “I feel very honoured to receive top honours in this race, and I am happy for the support from the people of Limpopo.” She added that she was ready to participate in this year’s Comrades Marathon. The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Merriam Ramadwa, said the achievement should be inspirational to young people, especially those in rural areas. “This achievement of Mudau makes a simple statement that Limpopo has talent and our athletes can compete anywhere in the world,” she said. “What you have achieved does not come cheaply, but through commitment. Your success is our success,” the MEC said. She said Mudau was not only a hero in Vhembe and Limpopo, but also in South Africa. “Young people of our province must emulate what Mudau has achieved,” she said.
