ie liefde vir God bestaan daaruit dat ons sy gebooie gehoorsaam. Dit bring ons teks vir ons van die begin af tuis. En nou sien ons in vers 1 dat liefde vir God nie opsioneel is nie. Om sy kind te wees, moet ons Hom liefhê. Ten opsigte hiervan word vier sake genoem: geloof, kindskap van God, liefde vir die Vader en liefde vir ander kinders van God, die medegelowiges. Nou, hier word vir ons ‘n bepaalde orde gestel: Geloof staan eerste. Geloof in Jesus Christus as opgestane Here en Verlosser is wat ons kinders van God maak. En kinders van God moet Hom liefhê, en ook mekaar. Liefde vir God en vir mekaar kan inderdaad nie geskei word nie, maak vers 2 duidelik. As ons God liefhet, sal ons mekaar ook liefhê. Dit kan nie anders nie. Hierdie liefde is gegrond op die gehoorsaamheid aan God. Dit is hoe ons wys ons is lief vir Hom en mekaar. Maar doen ons dit? Is ons as mense lief vir God en mekaar? Nie na ons wese nie. Ná die sondeval neig die mens eerder daarna om mekaar en God te haat. Die mens, elk een van ons ingesluit, doen daagliks dinge wat glad nie van liefde spreek nie. Ek kan nie sê: meestal gedra ek my darem goed en onthou ek om soos ‘n Christen op te tree, nou kan die Here maar van die paar dingetjies wat ek verkeerd doen, vergeet nie. Een keer se liefdelose optrede is reeds een keer te veel. En dit is nie hoe dit moet wees nie. Ons as God se kinders weet mos van beter! Ons is nie veronderstel om ongehoorsaamheid en ‘n gebrek aan liefde in ons harte te hê nie, want God het vir ons presies gewys wat liefde is, toe Hy die grootste moontlike mate van liefde aan ons gegee het. Toe Hy sy ware oordeel van ons wegge neem het en ons vergifnis gegee het. Toe Hy sy Seun as Verlosser geskenk het, wat met sy kruisdood die toorn van God gedra en so alle sondeskuld van ons af weggeneem het. Toe Hy gesorg het dat alle sonde van sy kinders, ja, selfs dit wat ons nou nog voortgaan en doen, ons nie in die hel sal bring nie. Ons moet volgens die voorbeeld van lief de lewe wat God ons gegee het. Maar ons moet onthou: dit is slegs die krag van die Heilige Gees wat ons in staat stel om lief te hê soos God van ons verwag om lief te hê. Die ware Christelike liefde is ‘n gawe van die Gees, en slegs wanneer die Heilige Gees deur ons werk, kan ons dit uitleef. Ons kan wel getroos wees daarin dat die Gees van God by elkeen is wat sy naam aanroep en sy kind is. Ons moet dan na die stem van die Gees luister, en nie ongehoor saam wees en Hom bedroef nie. - Ds. By Bernard Chiguvare A Chinese family is packing up and leaving South Africa after a brutal armed robbery at their shop in Louis Trichardt left one family member dead and two injured. “We are leaving the country for China anytime as soon as possible,” said the 32-year-old Mr Jiangui Zhuang when the Zoutpansberger visited them. He was still very much distraught about the death of his 58-year-old father, Mr Xingyu Zhuang, who was shot and killed during the robbery. Apart from his father being shot and dying in front of them, he and his mother, the 54-year-old Ms Miao Mei Yan, were also brutally hacked with pangas. The vicious attack on the family, who run a shop in Songozwi Street opposite the busy Game centre, occurred just after 06:00 last Thursday, 19 September. They stay in a backroom on the same

premises. According to initial police information, three men, one armed with a firearm and two with pangas, forced open the back entrance to the family’s shop. “We had not yet opened the shop but all of sudden three armed men came from the back of the shop demanding money. All of us were very scared. I tried to hide under some cardboard boxes, but one of them came after me hitting me over the head with a panga,” said Jiangui. His father was shot and died at the scene after he decided to try and fight off their attackers. In the end, the three attackers fled the scene without taking anything. The Zhuang-family have been running their shop selling different items ranging from cutlery to bicycles and clothes since 2006. “This is the first time we’ve encountered such brutality. We can no longer stay in South Africa. The country is no longer a safe place to live,” said Jiangui. His sentiment was shared

Although the company has its registered address listed as Kimberley in the Northern Cape, it also has a local presence. The company is involved in construction and development with a well-established track record. “To my shock they gave (the tender) to a company that’s way below that (we offered),” said Marageni. He said that, when hearing that the tender had been awarded to another company, he had phoned the municipality to try and establish the reasons. “I spoke to an official who was seemingly just as surprised and shocked, because it was not that complicated,” said Marageni. After being unable to get reasons from the officials, Marageni asked his lawyers to follow up with letters to the municipality, which they subsequently did. The lawyers were also unable to elicit a response from the municipality. “The lawyers advised that we should go to court,” he said. Marageni added that his company had been very busy over the past few months, not leaving him much time to follow up on this matter.

“They cannot bother to answer us. Now we just have to take it to court,” he said.

Not a clean record The Makhado Municipality has been criticised in the past for the manner in which procurement processes are being handled. In the latest available report of the auditor-general (AG), the Makhado Municipality is slammed for not following proper tender processes, which is one of the reasons the municipality did not get a clean audit report. The AG pointed out that this resulted, among others, in irregular expenditure of R31 158 043 during the 2017/18 financial year. Municipalities must adhere to legislation that prescribes how procurement processes are being handled. Any tender where the bid is above R200 000 needs to be evaluated by committees. Three types of committees handle the procurement, namely a: - Bid Specifications Committee - Bid Evaluation Committee - Bid Adjudication Committee The municipality was sent a detailed list of questions last week, requesting more information on how these committees function and who the officials involved in the adjudication process are. (Elected councillors are not allowed to serve on these committees). In spite of several requests to respond, the municipality has not done so.

“New” Makhado Crossing nearing completion Development The Masingita Group of Companies is incredibly proud to announce that Makhado Crossing is growing and expanding to reach new heights. “When the refurbished centre opens its doors on 21 November 2019, it will offer the Makhado community a total retail space of 35 000 m2 (up from the original 14 000 m2 GLA),” said the company in a press release. The new centre is the culmination of investments worth R500 million, to upgrade all tenants to align them with the new look of the centre. While the centre features anchor tenants such as Pick n Pay and a brand new Checkers, big brands such as Woolworths, Standard Bank, Absa Bank, Mr Price Home and Sheet Street have decided to relocate from town to be part of this world-class mall’s vision of offering a “one-stop-shop environment” for the Makhado community. “The centre also created the perfect opportunity for new tenants like Dis-Chem, Mr Price Sport and Roman’s Pizza Drive Thru to open stores in the centre. In addition to the new stores, the centre now also sports 1 400 parking bays, making it the most convenient place to meet and shop in Makhado,” stated the company.

To make space for the expansion, the town’s squash club, rugby club, jukskei club and pigeon racing club had to be relocated from the municipal grounds next to the centre. “This resulted in the centre’s developers investing R25 million in building brand new club facilities along the Thohoyandou road. Further phases within the development of the area include a Unisa campus, petrol station and a hotel,” stated the company. According to the company, the development has managed to create around 900 jobs during the construction phase and offers an additional 300 permanent positions (at retailers, centre management, security and more). “To me it is not about enriching myself. Vanjaar se InniBerg-fees is om die draai, met ‘n vol program vermaak op die spyskaart op 4 en 5 Oktober. Giyani batted first and put a good score of 149 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The best-performing batsmen were opener Bongani Vhukeya (who put on 39 runs in 29 balls) and teammate Chavani Mathebula, who top scored with the bat by hitting 42 runs off 34 balls. On the other hand, Univen’s bowlers were struggling. Their five-wicket haul included two run-outs, with all the bowlers ending up with economy rates of 4 and above, the highest being 13.1. As with their bowlers, Univen’s batsmen were also struggling, only managing 113 runs on the scoreboard before being bowled out in 12.5 overs. Initially, things looked good with openers Emmanuel Thokwane (20 off 21 balls) and Moien Gija (33 off 17 balls) laying the foundation. After their departure from the pitch, Univen’s batting line-up had little more to offer. In the afternoon it was time for Louis Trichardt to make amends for their loss earlier in the day. They came back with a vengeance and, unfortunately, Univen was at the receiving end. Louis Trichardt batted first, scoring an impressive 170 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Top performers with the bat for the team were Leon Olwage (27 off 14 balls) and AJ Fourie, who finished on 45 not out off 34 balls. For Univen, their star bowler was Akib Amanji, who took 3 wickets for the loss of 16 runs in his four overs. He also boasted the team’s best economy rate of 4. The only other bowler to take more than one wicket was fellow bowler Tamin Kondivilkar, who took two wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. Univen put up a brave fight by almost batting out their whole innings, but their last wicket fell with only one ball to spare with the score on only 57 runs. Apart from Adeel Altaf Munshi, who struggled to 11 runs off 34 balls, no other Univen batsman could score double figures. For Louis Trichardt, bowler Gerhardus Fourie was in devastating form, taking 5 wickets for the loss of only 5 runs in his 4 overs. His spell included two maidens. The next round of local Vhembe T20 matches will be decided this Sunday, 29 September. Univen will take on the Mohodi Cricket Club at the Louis Trichardt Oval at 10:00. At 14:30, at the same venue, Louis Trichardt will take on Giyani, while Mohodi will play their second match of the day against Eltivillas in Eltivillas.
