Three-year-old girl mysteriously dies
Mother in custody A woman who was arrested for killing her own baby has been denied bail in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court. Lutendo Khorommbi (32) appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed to 23 February. She has been remanded in custody. Mutale police spokesperson WO Tshilidzi Nyambe-
ni said Khorommbi had been arrested last Friday (22 January), following an incident that had happened the previous night. “The accused opened a missing child docket with us on Thursday night after she claimed that her three-year-old girl, Fency Khorommbi, had gone missing from her house at Mulodi village.” Nyambeni added that the mother told them that she had been sleeping with her three children in the room. She said that she left the room to use the outside toilet and when she got back, Fency was missing. “She claimed that she was suffering from a running stomach, which forced her to leave the room The accused, Lutendo Khorommbi (32).
often.” According to the mother’s statement to the police, when she arrived back in the room at around 21:00, “she claimed she was shocked to find that only her six-month-old baby and her 11-year-old child were in the room.” A missing person case was opened and a search started immediately, until the body of little Fency was found about 500 meters away from her home the following morning at around 11:30. She had an open wound on the left side of her forehead. “Following tough questions from our investigators, Khorommbi confessed on Thursday afternoon that the child had died after she had slapped her in the face and she had fallen to the floor. She claimed that she was emotional when she slapped the child after she found her baby crying while lying on the floor next to where Fency was sleeping,” Nyambeni added. According to the police spokesperson, the mother said that she had slapped Fency after she had failed to explain why the baby was crying. “Khorommbi told us that she had decided to dump Fency’s body after she had failed to resuscitate her,” said Nyambeni. Fency’s death had earlier sent shockwaves around the village and the surrounding areas amid fears that
she might have been the victim of a ritual killing. A community member, Mr Jerry Masevhe, who took part in searching for the missing child, is extremely upset about the situation. “I cannot believe that when I took part in searching for the child we would find the young girl wrapped in a blanket inside a plastic bag. We later learned that the mother of the young girl had been arrested and charged with the murder,” said Masevhe. Ms Florence Radzilani, chairperson of the ANC Women’s League

More woes in Malamulele despite Gordhan’s visit The community of Malamulele continues with its total shutdown of services, despite the visit by four Ministers to plead with the community to make peace, so the children could return to school. Minister of Cooperative Governance Pravin Gordhan visited the area with Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and Justice Minister Michael Masutha. Gordhan told the community the government had no control over the Municipal Demarcation Board and urged the community to allow the area to return to normality. Nhleko said he was concerned with stability while Dlamini said she was concerned that those receiving grants did not receive them last month. Community members, however, shot down the government’s suggestions. A commander marshalling the enforcers of the strike at one entry point “Gordhan is undermining the people of to the Malamulele township.
Malamulele; he is coming here to tell us about the Demarcation Act, whereas we dealt with it 13 years ago,” said a local leader. Gordhan was booed when he talked about the act, so was Nhleko when he talked about stability. Dlamini said that people, especially the senior citizens, had not been able to access grants because of the shutdown in Malamulele. She said out of 55 000 people in Malamulele, only 13 000 had received their grants last month. Malamulele task team spokesperson Mr Isaiah Ndhambi said he and his community wanted stability to be restored to the area but it depended on the community. Local Sanco head Mr Brian Maluleke said it was worrying when the democratic government ignored the will of the people for 15 years. “They are making our people to want nothing to do with the government and that is worrying. It affects us as leaders of the community when the supposed
people’s government is deaf to the will of the people,” he said. T-shirts with the words "Malamulele Municipality" are popular and sell like hot cakes in Malamulele. Malamulele is, however, as quiet as it has been over the last two weeks. People choose to stay at home but peacefully protest in pursuit of their demands. They said democracy had not brought anything but shame, because they were not represented in the decision making at both the Thulamela and Vhembe District Municipality. The spokesperson of the Department of Education in Limpopo, Paene Galane, asked parents in Malamulele to give the education of their children top priority. During this paper's visit to the area on Tuesday, a bus load of representatives from all the ANC branches in the area was leaving for Polokwane to meet the the top leadership of the province.

Promise of house for family The SABC Limpopo Combo, in partnership with the SAPS and private donors, came to the rescue of the Rivombo family in Nwaxinyamane last Friday, when they launched a project to build them a five-room house. The Rivombo family had been living in a dilapidated shack since the floods of 2000. The poverty-stricken family of six will hopefully soon have a decent shelter. The six share living and sleeping conditions in a shack with no proper floor. The chairperson for the Makhado SAPS cluster, Mr Sampson Mpilo, visited the family, spoke with them and made a report, which he will submit to the community and donors. “This family needs urgent help from the side of the donors and SAPS,” Mpilo said. He said the SAPS was aware that there were still people living in dilapidated houses. The Limpopo regional manager of the SABC, Ms Tshamano Makuya, said that the SABC's structures in Limpopo cared about the people who had lost hope in life, "but as the broad-
caster we sit down and look what we can do to help the people in need." According to the mother of five, Ms Nkhensani Rivombo, she fails to understand the reason why all services should bypass them in the village. Rivombo said that her family survived by selling firewood. She said that she had never thought that she would own a house one day. She thanked the SAPS, SABC and the donors whohad seen her need . During rainy seasons, the hut the family stays in gets filled with water, which enters through the roof. At one stage, the water damaged the main electricity box and it had to be replaced. “Now we fear that if the rains come again and find us still living in this hut, the electricity box may burst and kill all of us in the fire,” Malamulele High School is under lock and key as pupils observe the total shutdown. There has been no schooling for three said the mother. weeks now in the area. Poerty-stricken pupils from the Schuitdrift Combined School near Tshipise were all smiles when they received full sets of school uniforms last Saturday. The donor, Dr Hellen Mavhandu Mudzusi of the Community Engagement Project, said during the event that their forum started many years ago with the aim of helping disadvantaged pupils whose parents cannot provide sufficiently. "Our area is one of the poorest areas in the province, and if we do not do something for our scholars, some can drop out of school,” she said. She added that she was aware of the hardships faced by many parents in the area. "As parents, you still have the responsibility of bringing up the children and we urge you also to look after our young children. Show them the right way," she said.
She also urged all the pupils to study hard and be responsible members of the community who will, in turn, help other disadvantaged children. "We would like to see these children climbing the ladder of success in the future. With all the motivation we are giving them, nothing is impossible," she added. “I know what it is like to go to school without support. I know how painful it is to be teased by other pupils for not having the necessary uniform,” she added. She also mentioned that some pupils were not dropping out because of laziness, but from pressure and self-denial for not having a complete school uniform. The principal of the school, Ms Nyadzani Moyo, could not hide her happiness. She said it was good to be receiving from one of the community
members. “We are very grateful for what the project has done today," she said. She told the pupils to count themselves lucky to be receiving the uniforms as learners at other schools were attending school in old and tattered uniforms. She added that they always prayed for miracles to happen." What you have done for our children is a big relief to us and our children. You eased a big burden for us and may God richly bless you, so that you continue helping us and our children," she said. Shumani Ndou, who received a full uniform, said it would help to motivate them in their studies. "It is hard to concentrate in class without the basic needs. What the project did for us has helped restore our dignity and we will not disappoint them, our parents and educators," he said.

Photo right:The deased, Ms Eaglet Ramaligela. The community of Vleifontein went on the rampage on Monday, blocked the road from Elim to the N1 and streets around the area with rocks, burning tyres, electricity poles and other objects. It follows the identification of the body of a woman who was recovered floating in a dam a fortnight ago. It was identified as Ms Eaglet Ramaligela (56), who had been missing for two weeks. The community felt that the police were reluctant to arrest possible suspects, whom they believe to be members of the community. During a community meeting on Sunday, where the mysterious death of Ms Ramaligala was discussed, several people alleged that ritual murderers were operating in the area. On Monday, members of the community went to all the schools around the area to force the pupils to go out and support them in their demand that the alleged ritual-murder suspects be arrested. The shops around were closed for some time and the
roads around Vleifontein and Maila were blocked. Angry members of the community even broke down the bus stop and put it in the road. Mr Happy Mulaudzi, son of the deceased, agreed that they were not happy about the way in which the police were handling the case. He acknowledged that there were parts missing from his mother’s body. “The police are not willing to arrest the suspects. They are not acting against people we know are involved in the murder.” He added that they were still waiting for the police to supply them with the post mortem report. He added that it was a mystery how the body could end up in the dam, far away from her home. He said that his mother had gone missing after attending a prayer meeting at Maila village. Police spokesperson Col Ronel Otto said that the police were still waiting for the post mortem report. “At this stage, we have no evidence linking anybody to the death of Ms Ramaligela. We are now appealing to members of the public to give us
space to work on the case.” She also appealed to members of the community to supply information that can shed light on the incident. King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana has appealed to the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He said the community should “help the police with information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects who are responsible for this murder.” He appealed to the community to leave the school children alone to go to school. Community members, who commented on condition of anonymity, revealed that people no longer felt safe in their own homes. “If you don’t see one of your children for two to three hours, you start to wonder whether the child is still alive or not,” a resident said. Ms Ramaligela was working in the Expanded Public Works Programme of the Makhado municipality and is survived by five children. She will be buried today (Friday).

Beloved Chief Nemaranzhe is no more The passing on of Chief Mmbangiseni Nemaranzhe of Maranzhe has been described as a big loss to the village and the Tshivhase royal house. The 66-year-old traditional leader died last week after a short, but unspecified, illness. As per tradition, the burial took place on Thursday evening at the sacred royal burial grounds and was attended by only a few family members. The public funeral on Saturday was just a formality and gave locals the opportunity to give their beloved leader a befitting send-off. Speaking during the service, Chief Avhasei Ramugondo, who stood in for Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase, described the late chief as someone who strived for development in his area and who performed his duties with distinction. “In Nemaranzhe we had a great leader who had a good working relationship with us. He was very humble and listened to his seniors. He was always willing
and ready to learn, which made all family gatherings while at the him judge cases justly and we same time encouraging others to never needed to summon him to be united. Rumours of yet another corruption scandal at the Makhado Municipality Yet another corruption scandal, apparently involving several top officials, is unfolding at the Makhado Municipality. Since the beginning of the year, rumours have been rife that several senior municipal officials had been suspended, following allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption. Confirming these rumours, however, proved difficult as officials remained extremely tight-lipped about the issue. The situation escalated last week, with rumours that the municipal manager, Mr Sakkie Mutshinyali, had also been suspended, following an executive committee (EXCO) meeting of Council last Thursday. Apparently, Mutshinyali was suspended because of the way in which he as accounting officer had handled the investigation process regarding the allegations of corruption in, among others, the municipality’s finance department. Municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi was, however, quick to respond on Monday by categorically stating that there was no truth in the rumours that Mutshinyali had been suspended. “He is in his office and at work,” Bobodi said. He added that nothing regarding the “suspension” of Mutshinyali was discussed during last week’s EXCO meeting. “I don’t know where these rumours are coming from,” Bobodi said. Prior to Bobodi's refuting rumours that Mutshinyali had been suspended, the Limpopo Mirror asked Bobodi on 23 January to confirm the validity of the rumours about the suspension of other top municipal officials in December last year. This after increasing pressure from all quarters, asking the municipality to act in a transparent manner regarding the suspension issue. “The Congress of the People (COPE) in Vhembe is disappointed and saddened by the way in which the senior officials and the senior politicians from the ruling party are handling the matter of the suspended officials. It has come to the attention of COPE that Makhado Municipality have suspended some officials on allegations of fraud and the looting of funds from the municipal purse. As COPE, we believe that the municipality belongs to all and that all the good issues, as well as the bad issues, that happen in the municipality are of public interest. The municipal management seems to be very quiet on the matter,” reads a statement received from COPE’s regional
Developing Global Managers in Africa
chairman, Cllr Geoffrey Tshibvumo. Tshibvumo said that voters had the right to be informed as to what had caused the municipal management to suspend officials and what the allegations were that had been levelled against them. “Reliable sources have told COPE that the alleged looting of the public purse amounts to not less than R4 million. This is quite a big issue … The community and all the voters at large deserve to know,” Tshibvumo said. Once again Bobodi was quick to respond, with the newspaper receiving answers to their media enquiry regarding the suspension of senior municipal officials within half an hour of submitting the question on Friday. Despite rumours that several municipal officials had been suspended, Bobodi confirmed the suspension of only one senior official. “He is from the department of finance and I am not at liberty to divulge his name at this stage as the matter is still sub judice,” Bobodi said, adding that the suspension related to charges of the mismanagement of public funds. The Limpopo Mirror has it on good authority that the person holds a very senior position in this department, dealing with municipal expenditure. Bobodi was unable to give an estimate of the amount of money involved relating to the allegations of mismanagement of funds. “Investigations are still going on to determine the exact amount,” Bobodi said. He confirmed that the official involved was suspended with full pay around mid-December last year. The Limpopo Mirror has learned, however, that there is a lot more to the story than meets the eye. According to information available to the newspaper, the preliminary investigation into the allegations of financial mismanagement and fraudulent dealings is sure to open up the proverbial “can of worms” even further, with the possibility of other senior officials' being suspended not being ruled out. The investigation apparently centres around the procurement process of tenders, the forging of signatures and payments being made to tenderers without their actually rendering the services they had tendered for. “The investigation comes as no surprise to us. For many years now we have been calling on the authorities to investigate issues surrounding the municipality’s procurement process,” was the only response received by the DA’s Cllr Brain du Plooy. In the meantime, it is expected that the allegations of financial mismanagement, the suspension of the officials and the current investigation into the process will be a hot topic of discussion when these serve before Council during a special council meeting scheduled for 29 January.

Vhavenda king and mayor Matibe slam shut-down of schools in Malamulele The executive mayor of Vhembe, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, and Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu have added their voices to the protest against the fact that schools have not been functioning in Malamu lele for the third week running - a matter that has elicited criticism countrywide. During the Vhembe District Grade 12 excellence awards held at the Christ Worship House last Friday, the two were in unison in calling for the release of school pupils as the protests continue. The area has been a no-go area and virtually all services have come to a standstill for the past three weeks. The mass action has adversely affected the learners in the area, who have not seen the inside of a classroom since the academic year started this year. Matibe said that, inasmuch as the residents of Malamulele had the right to protest and to want a municipality of their own, it had become a cause for concern that pupils had not been going to school, while those in other areas were continuing with their studies. “I know it myself; I have been a teacher, and one thing that counts a lot during the year is the optimum use of time, to the advantage of the
learners. Loss of time without going to school will, in the long term, affect the quality of their results and of those who would have written supplementary examinations and those seeking admission at tertiary institutions. I have had talks with the leaders of Univen to give special treatment to the students from Malamulele, but we do not know for how long will they wait for them,” he said. King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana also came down hard on protests which affect learners’ learning programme. “People have the right to protest, but children also have the right to education. We are greatly saddened by the continued loss of learning time by learners in the name of protests. It is surprising that people do not protest in December, which is the right time as it would not affect schooling. They choose to disturb schooling as it is done during the semester.” He emphasised that education was the key to development and “we would not have good results if children’s education is disrupted.” During the event, pupils who worked extra hard and produced distinctions were richly rewarded. They were given cash, certificates and trophies for their efforts.

Former Venda head of state laid to rest The Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr Kebby Maphatsoe, described the late General Gabriel Mutheiwana Ramushwana as a humble, brave and disciplined military man, who played a major role in the attainment of democracy in South Africa. Maphatsoe said during his time as Venda’s head of state, General Ramushwana played a major role in paving the way for change in this country. “He made sure that Venda was a liberated zone for Umkhonto we Sizwe activities. The news of his death sent shockwaves through the community he had served so well throughout his life.” She also mentioned that, instead of shedding a tear, “we must also go down memory lane and remember the good things that Ramushwana did for this community while he was still alive.” Gun salutes and liberation songs were the order of the day as Ramushwana’s coffin was lowered to its final resting place at Musina Cemetery. Initially it was reported that the funeral was organized to take place in Pretoria, but the family later decided to bury him among his people.

Breakfast for top achievers near Venetia “South Africa needs top achievers who return to their communities and use their education to plough back. Our country needs graduates who stimulate the local economy, create jobs and become true leaders in their respective fields,” said the manager of De Beers Venetia Mine, Mr Ludwig von Maltitz, at a breakfast held to honour top achievers from communities neighbouring Venetia Mine. Ten pupils and six principals from Musina High, Eric Louw High School, Alldays Combined School, Nakedi Secondary, Mabea Secondary and Mathipa Makgato Secondary were treated to a morning of recognition and motivation from De Beers. The event also hosted tertiary students currently participating in the De Beers Financial Assistance Programme. These students continue their secondand third-year studies this year with financial assistance from De Beers, which goes towards funding their tuition at institutions of higher learning of their choice. Tshepo John Semata, the highest achieving student from Alldays Combined School, is set to begin his first year in mining geology at the University of Limpopo this year. He was thrilled to receive an invitation to attend the event. “I walked away from today determined to ‘be the change’ and to influence and inspire others, regardless of where life takes me.” In 2014, De Beers spearheaded numerous education programmes in Musina and Alldays, including
the De Beers Saturday School and the De Beers Financial Assistance Programme. Last year, their Teacher Subvention Programme funded 27 additional mathematics and science teachers for Eric Louw High School, Musina High and Messina Primary School and offered school fee subsidies to needy, academically deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Similarly, De Beers’ contractor, Basil Read, invested in three additional mathematics teachers and an addititional science teacher for Alldays Secondary School. Debate deity of Christ
+
Louis Trichardt will play host to a unique debate surrounding the theme Did Jesus claim to be God? on 7 February. Residents are invited to join the conversation as a Muslim and a Christian discuss their views on the nature of Jesus Christ. Was Jesus a mere prophet, as Muslims believe, or is He God in the flesh, as believed by Christians? In order to answer this question, Maulana Abu Bakr Akoo and Pastor Paul Schlehlein will be debating the claims of Jesus from the Bible. This promises a debate not to be missed, with renowned linguist and Bible scholar professor emeritus Koos van Rooy of the Reformed Church acting as moderator. The debate is scheduled for two hours, followed by 30 minutes of questions from the audience. “We welcome those of all faiths to this historic event. Bring your friends and join us afterwards for refreshments,” invite the organisers. The debate will start at 17:00 in the Ferdie Beyers Hall and for more information, phone Past Paul at Tel 084 451 7309.

Indigenous movies a breath of fresh air Debut album for Citizen By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho At a time when the world is recovering from the festive season’s euphoria and business, and the art industry seems somehow quiet and dry, two indigenous movies have hit the shelves. An experienced, celebrated film maker and producer, Mboswobeni “30 Cent” Mulugana, introduced the latest offerings from Mboswobeni Films recently. The movies, 30-Cent in Johannesburg (Part 3) and Asi Muvenda, give a breath of fresh air in an industry which has seen all and sundry claiming to be movie makers. “We have worked very hard to make sure that we give people quality comedies at the end of the day,” Mulugana said. Even though the producer classifies both films as comedies, they are not so comedic as there is less laughter in the plot. The movies tell human stories and are filled with human drama that no viewer can ignore. Asi Muvenda means that she or he is not a Muvenda. It depicts a story of two lovers, Muthuphei (Muvenda) and Nyeleti (Tsonga). The two characters are played by
Livhuwani Madadzhe and Marcia Baloyi. Asi Muvenda flows like a Romeo and Juliet story – parents from both families do not support the partnership between the lovers and are furious and do not want to see them together. “I wrote the script after realising that there are people who still forbid their children to love this or that other person, based on their own reasons which might not be sound to the children,” Mulugana said. “We do movies which encourage unity, peace, love – and we also do movies for the sake of entertainment.” 30 Cent in Johannesburg (Part 3) tells the story of a
young, married man who leaves home to work in the city, but once there, he forgets about his wife and adoring, talented daughter and starts to run after beautiful girls and women. In an emotional scene, he confides to his father that he knows he suffers from the sickness of womanising. “Daddy, I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” he (Tshidammba) says. His wife eventually decides she has had enough and leaves him. Mulugana has taken his movies to different national and international film festivals. He has just returned from the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival, which took place in New York. He had the opportunity to brush shoulders with veteran actors and producers in the international industry. Mulugana was born in Folovhodwe, grew up in Bennde-Mutale near Masisi and moved to Johannesburg in 1998. He is currently in the district, mainly based in Thohoyandou for business purposes. He can be contacted on 072 847 8990. He is also on Facebook as 30 Cent Mboswobeni Mulugana.
By Frank Mavhungu Just like many up-and-coming artists, Mutshidzi Citizen Dzivhani from Muledane experienced several challenges on her way to releasing her debut album. She started singing gospel music when she was still a Sunday school child. Her exposure to music grew with time and she became an active member of the Family Worship Centre Church choir at the age of 10. She later became the church’s worship team leader. After passing her Grade 12 at the Raluswielo High School, she enrolled for a degree in Youth Development at the University of Venda. While at Univen, she used her spare time to write songs. Aiming to record her first album, she and her stage partner, Phumudzo Netshianane, went to Convee Music Recording Studio in Thohoy-
andou in March last year. The product was her debut album, Yesu O vuwa, which was released early last month. The 26-year-old Citizen says that her new release is available at local music outlets. The album has 10 tracks and is dedicated to Christians of all age groups, irrespective of the church to which they belong. Some of the songs that have what it takes to make the album an instant hit include O an halalela, Ndo itwa muswa, A kaidza and Ndo muswa itwa muswa. She says that the album is selling very well at this stage and the demand is by far higher than she can supply. According to her, her husband, Mr Ntevheleni Muthevhuli, is very supportive of her career. She also expressed the hope that the album will not fall prey to music pirates. People who want to book her for performances can phone her on 079 963 9346.

Two Zimbabwe immigration officers fired for fraud Two Zimbabwean immigration officials at the Beit Bridge border post were fired last week after they were found in possession of a fake South African immigration date stamp, which they were using to fraudulently clear travellers who would have contravened the Immigration Act. The two officials, Anna Mutashu (32) and Kennedy Matunga (45), were fired
last Thursday, following a disciplinary hearing. A spokesperson for the Department of Immigration, Mr Francis Mabika, said the two officials were in possession of a fake South African departure date stamp, which they were using to clear those who had overstayed in South Africa. “They used the fake stamp to clear travellers who had overstayed in our neighbouring country, charging them between R300 and R500 to put a stamp on a single passport,” he said. According to the SA Immigration Act, foreigners who overstay in South Africa are either fined between R1 000 and R5 000 or banned for a period of five years, depending on the number of days they would have overstayed in the country. The two officers, said Mabika, were arrested after a trap was set

The communities of Madimbo and the surrounding villages recently interacted face to face with their elected political representatives during a mayoral imbizo of the Musina Local Municipality at Madimbo’s soccer field. The imbizo formed part of the consultative process to make sure that community members are playing their role in the decision-making processes of the municipality. The well-attended meeting was targeted at ward committees, traditional leaders, all community stakeholders and the general public of Ward 1 of Musina Municipality. Led by the mayor, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada, government and municipal officials provided services for the local communities who usually travel to Musina town to access those services. Ramoyada said that it was important “to restore the dignity of all South Africans after 20 years of democracy. Everyone has the right to access government services, despite their geographical location. Community members should report if government and municipal officials are not treating them with dignity. That is why we encourage employees to have identification cards, so that com-
munity members are able to identify them. As a responsible government, we are compelled to abide by Batho Pele principles whenever we serve our people.” Ramoyada said it was important for people to attend imbizos and IDP meetings. “According to the Municipal Systems Act, every municipality has to prepare its own credible IDP and budget, which guides them every financial year for a period of five years. In terms of the Constitution and legislation flowing from it, we are required to structure and manage our administration, budgeting and planning processes, give priority to the basic needs of the community, promote the social and economic development of the community and participate in national and provincial development programmes.” She said the municipality always included its stakeholders when taking decisions to ensure a smooth link between planning and delivery through a detailed and concrete project-design process. After giving a service delivery report, she responded to the inputs made by stakeholders and residents. “The issues that we cannot respond to now will be forwarded to the relevant departments and stakeholders.”
by detectives from the Border Control Unit with the assistance of SA Home Affairs officials “We relieved them of their duties after they were found guilty of corruption and improper performance during an internal disciplinary hearing. We want to weed out all corrupt officials in the department as they are tarnishing our image,” said Mabika. “We continue to urge travellers to report any corrupt official to the enforcement and compliance department. Detectives from the Border Control Unit received a tip-off from their South Africa counterparts in January last year and investigations were conducted, leading to the arrest of the two officials. This was after South African immigration officials had intercepted a cross-border bus from Zimbabwe carrying passengers whose passports contained fake Home Affairs departure date stamps. Mutashu and Matunga were implicated Local ward councillor Fistos Mafela assists a villager to raise a point in the syndicate and arrested. during the mayoral imbizo at Madimbo soccer field.

Sekoati to launch 2015 Marula Festival MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) Seaparo Sekoati will officially launch the 2015 Limpopo Marula Festival in the Ba-Phalaborwa municipal lapa today (Friday). The launch will mark ten years after it began with a mere 500 people in 2006. According to the spokesperson of the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Mr Mike Tauatsola, the
festival is part of the government’s priority of rural development. “Over the past three years, the festival has attracted more than 30 000 revelers from most parts of the country, as well as the SADC countries,” Tauatsola said. He added that the direct and indirect economic benefits created by the event made it a perfect fit for Government’s objective of using the arts, culture and
heritage to create jobs and grow the economy. “The festival benefits airlines, car rental companies, tour operators, hotels and lodges, restaurants, retailers as well as communities who gather to brew the marula fruit. All of these sectors experience significant rise in the demand for their goods and services during the period of the festival and all are excited about it,” he added.

Eduako to know his fate next month The murder case against the 23-year-old Ethopian man, Wome Eduako, was postponed to 27 February when he appeared in the Waterval Regional Court last Friday. The accused had requested the court to grant him an opportunity to first meet with the deceased’s family before the court could consider sentencing him. Eduako allegedly stabbed Mpho Gift Sithole (22) to death with a knife on 10 October last year. Sithole had reportedly gone to Murder accused: Wome Eduako has been granted the accused to collect his money an opportunity to meet the when an argument allegedly started between them. He had, deceased’s family.
according to his uncle, Mr James Sithole, sold the accused a laptop computer some two months before, but Eduako allegedly refused to hand him the outstanding money. Sithole confirmed that the family had welcomed Eduako’s request to meet them. “We sat down as a family and decided to allow him to come to our home,” he said. “We would surely listen to what he would have to tell us. This case is straining us a lot and we want it to come to an end quickly, so that we are not constantly being reminded about our son’s death.”

“Please focus on education” - First Lady First Lady of Limpopo Mrs Margaret Mathabatha has warned Grade 12 pupils to be very focused on their studies. She addressed the 12 pupils of Sinugani Secondary last Friday, as part of a back-to-school campaign that was initiated by the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Magau village. She asked pupils to refrain from drug abuse and ill discipline and emphasised that pupils should be obedient to their teachers. “Say no to drugs and listen to your teachers. You must arrange extra classes and aim to obtain a 100% pass rate this year,” she
told pupils. The principal, Mr Thizwilondi Masuka, promised that the teachers and pupils would work hard to obtain a 100% pass rate this year. Mrs Mathabatha also thanked the Pentecostal Holiness Church for the initiative. “We honour those people for what they do every day. They don’t wait for but initiate programmes,” she said. Through this initiative, the church donated R1 500 to the best 2014 Grade 12 pupil of Sinugani Secondary. Mrs Mathabatha also added R1 500. The church bought 30 pairs of shoes, backpacks and pairs
of socks and also found a sponsorship for another 25 pairs of shoes and socks. The shoes were donated to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in the village. Various pupils from Sinugani secondary, Magau primary and Matavhanani primary schools benefited from the initiative. The church’s event organiser, Mr Livhuwani Mutobvu, said the initiative was to help disadvantaged pupils in the community. “We are planning to do it annually. This will help learners to focus on their education without any distraction,” he said.

More skills for hard-working Bernard
Bernard Ramanala, earth-moving machine operator at Venetia Mine. Photo supplied.
Bernard Ramanala is an earth-moving machine operator at the De Beers Venetia Mine. He enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Musina, and his parents describe him as a child who enjoyed going to school and church and who loved to watch TV. After two years of working, Bernard joined Venetia Mine in 2003 as a truck operator. While Bernard enjoyed his job, he sometimes found it difficult to comprehend what he was reading at work. He wanted to improve his reading skills and so, when he was offered the chance, he signed up for the Media Works FLC course that was offered through his employer in 2013. Since completing the year-long course, Bernard now has the skills to understand what tasks are required of him to complete his job, which helps him to cope a lot
better at work. The skills Bernard learnt through FLC are assisting him in his work and personal life. “It has taught me how to draw up a budget, do calculations at work, my reading skills have improved and I have a better understanding of tasks required in my job.” Bernard now finds it easier to engage with colleagues who come from different backgrounds to his own. “I have learnt that people are different and I must respect other people’s cultures.” Since Bernard completed his FLC course, he decided to expand his knowledge in other areas as well. He has completed a number of other courses, including Component A, First Aid Course, Wheel Dozer and Track Dozer. “I know that, as a result of the new skills I have learnt, I will be promoted and be able to build a better future for myself. My advice to anyone who gets the opportunity to study is that you must work hard and make use of it in order to succeed in life.” By Phathutshedzo Luvhengo
Mayor to monitor Hluvuka High school The three best pupils from Hluvuka High school in the Bungeni area during the 2014 matric exams will share R5 000. This after the mayor of Makhado local municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, fulfilled the promise he made last year January. Mutavhatsindi pledged last year that if the school performed well, he would give the top three achievers R5 000 to thank them for their efforts. The mayor and members of his executive committee recently visited the school. “We came here today, because your school mark had improved, and last year I promised that I would reward them.” He added that Vhembe District was recognised nationally because of the excellent results of the schools within the region. Hluvuka High achieved a 82% pass rate in 2013 and had improved to 87% last year. “It is known that Vhembe District is the cream of the crop in this province. We are always number one, and we don’t compete with them, we compete amongst ourselves,” he said. He added that he would monitor the school’s performance with interest. The school’s principal, Mr Freddy Maswanganyi, promised that they were aiming to achieve more than 95% pass rate this year. Hluvuka High boasts more than 1 500 pupils this year.

Two new lady voices on Makhado FM’s frequency Makhado FM has opened the gates for fresh minds at local media schools to do on-air practicals at the community station as part of the curricula. According to the station manager, Mr Makonde Mbedzi, the station recently started receiving students after a media training institution approached them with a request. “We can’t deny the hungry and thirsty journalists-in-the-making an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and showcase their skills and talent,” he said. “We provide the students with mentors from our experienced in-field presenters and journalists.” The two media students who have just found a home behind the microphone at Makhado FM are Rofhiwa “Dj Roxy” Munyai (27) of Madombidzha village, and Innocentia “Inno” Makhubele (21) from Waterval. They are both from Kundani Training College. The two have endeared themselves to thousands of listeners already, as their distinct and fresh voices are heard on shows such as the Afternoon Drive and the Breakfast Show. Dj Roxy sees a microphone as a close friend whom she has known for many years. “I know that it is not everybody who is clinging to every word I say,” she says. “Things I like about myself when I am on air is that I don’t talk any differently from how I am in normal life. I make all kinds of gestures while I am speaking. Radio taught me to generate original ideas and to think creatively about how to communicate them to my audience.”
Inno had always wanted to be on radio. She completed her matric and couldn’t further her studies because of financial constraints. Her attempts to get to a community radio station proved fruitless since she had no media qualifications. “I heard about Kundani Training College, which was offering free media studies to some youths,” she said. “I am not in the media industry because I had no other choice. Media is my first love, and being on air is
what I enjoy most. I was inspired by Makhado FM’s Dj Mabela. Today I am co-presenting the Breakfast Show with him.” Vongani Mhlava, one of the mentors for the young women, said that they were continuing to demonstrate surprising knowledge and talent. “They add views and insights to the shows and we enjoy working with them,” he said. “They are proving to be the kind of radio talent that South Africa needs.”

Literature
New book for Rev Phaswana The second publication from Rev (Dr) Ntavhanyeni Sampie Phaswana has inarguably set his star in the literary sky where he continues to shine as a beacon of hope for those sinking into debt and poverty. He also remains a beacon of hope for people who want to continue to beautify and stabilise their financial standing. His recently published book, License to Print Money, will be launched on 28 February at Kennington Lodge. Unlike his previous publication, Tsha-Fumi – Is tithing a Christian Doctrine?, which read like a scholarly thesis modified and converted into a book, License to Print Money carries universal messages of getting one out of the debt bondage, ensuring financial security, financial management and time management. License to Print Money is not one of the many how-to-get-rich books which come out every year. It tackles the subject matter from a fresh angle and contains easy-to-follow, realistic directions and motivation. Another aspect to note, which also deserves praise, is the economy of words in the text – the writer writes in simple, straightforward language and says only what needs to be said, without wasting words or bombarding the reader with useless, verbose paragraphs. He believes that his writing will help eradicate the ignorance which preventss people from achieving and realising their dreams. “The principal reason for the decline and fall of people is ignorance,” he remarks. “Knowledge is one of the wondrous gifts of God. It is incumbent upon everyone to acquire it. The primary, the most urgent requirement, is the promotion of education. It is inconceivable that any nation can achieve prosperity and success unless this paramount, this fundamental concern (education) is carried forward.”
Dr Phaswana holds the view that an acquired education will always be useful in different areas of one’s personal and social life, so he encourages people to read books which shape one’s character. “In these times of rapid change and extensive social networks, good ideas are the commodity of success,” he says. “All it takes is one idea from the right book to reshape one’s character or to transform your relationships or to revolutionise your life.” He states that the youth must know that the person they will be five years from now will come down to two primary influences, which are (1) the people they associate with and (2) the books they read. “When you read good books, your thinking expands and you rise to a whole new level of wisdom,” he adds. A short interview with Dr Phaswana leaves one with a desire to listen to him talk some more. Those interested in attending Dr Phaswana’s book launch can contact him on 082 969 5208.

The Democratic Alliance’s branch in Limpopo expressed its shock over the rise in teenage pregnancies in the province. This follows after the district health barometer of the Health System Trust (HST) 2013/2014 recently revealed that 7.9% of children were born to young school girls and the province was the fifth highest in the country as far as teenage pregnancies were concerned. “This figure exceeds the national norm of 6.8%. According to the HST Barometer, Vhembe is at 8.4%, Mopani at 8.1%, Sekhukhune at 7.7% while Wa-

terberg is at 7.6 % and Capricorn at 7.4%,” says the statement by DA provincial leader and member of the provincial legislature, Jacques Smalle. Answers received from the Department of Education by the DA suggest that at least 121 schools in Limpopo had a total of 663 pregnant learners in 2013. Of these, 50 learners were between Grades 4-7, 105 in Grade 8, 197 learners in Grade 9 and a total of 311 learners between Grade 10-12 became mothers. The party wanted to know whether any action had been taken by the department to ensure that these girls continued
with uninterrupted education. It further states that it was also questionable whether the department was complying with statutory obligations as set out in the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 32 of 2007. The DA believes that Limpopo needs one coherent and relevant framework and policy which will be applied at all schools in the province to ensure that girl learners were afforded real opportunities to reach their potential. “We are calling on the Limpopo Department of Education to implement a multi-disciplinary approach to combat this scourge,” said Smalle.

Taxi organization denies the abuse of members The 86-year-old businesswoman, Mrs Mushathama Sarah Makaukau, could not control her tears when she told Limpopo Mirror about her woes as a member of a taxi association. A redident of Valdezia-Mambedi village, near Elim, Makaukau had inherited her permit from her late husband, Mr ME Makaukau, who was a legitimate member of the Hlanganani Taxi Association. She said that all her troubles started when her taxi, which operated under permit number NPB1914388/1, was scrapped in 2010. She stated that the Zoutpansberg Taxi Association knew that she had an old, beaten-up taxi at her home and offered to help her scrap it. “I agreed, but in the process of helping me, they also converted my permit without clearly explaining all the implications to me,” she said. “Now they want me to

Mining activities in region cause more serious concerns With the start of the new year, residents of the Soutpansberg who are against coal mining in the Limpopo valley waged a new onslaught with a blade they had been honing in the quiet. Local activist groups slightly lifted the veil last week to reveal their plan of action to stop one of the biggest role players, Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL), who set their sights on the northern part of Limpopo. The groups included the Vhembe Mineral Resources Stakeholders Forum (VMRSF), headed by Mr Phile van Zyl, and the Save our Limpopo Valley (SOLVe) of Mr Wally Schultz. Schultz also got the civil rights organization AfriForum, of which he is the local chairperson, on board to support their efforts. Last week they played host to a team of researchers from the North West University’s unit for Corporate Social Responsibility and the Bench Marks Foundation (BMF). The teams’ sole purpose was to visit the area to enable them to compile a report on the outcomes and true cost to the region and its people if mining is allowed to continue. As part of their enquiries, the BMF’s David van Wyk and his team did water tests and one-on-one interviews with the local community that will live in the immediate area of the proposed mining sites. This included CoAL’s Vele mine near the Mapungubwe World Heritage Site, and the Makhado mine near Mudimele Village. Crucial concerns for them were the water scarcity of the area and the perceived impressions of the communities who think they will gain from the proposed mining. Tests results, said Van Wyk, confirmed that water in the Soutpansberg region’s water and rivers downstream
from the proposed mining sites are of an excellent quality. “Should coal mining commence at Makhado mine, I’m afraid that the quality will significantly deteriorate,” said Van Wyk to the Limpopo Mirror. He further expressed concern about the current state of dilapidation of the Nzhelele Dam and its canal network. “I don’t see how CoAL will be able to utilize that as a sustainable backup,” he added. Their preliminary interviews also showed the community’s general unhappiness and the apprehension that they hold towards the prospect of the Makhado mine. People feel that the mine will jeopardize jobs in the agricultural and tourism sectors and cause net job losses in the area, Van Wyk said. “As they should - there are no mines that tell locals the truth. They come in to make profits, provide maybe a hundred jobs and leave nothing but destruction after they had finished with an area,” said Van Wyk. Other fears that the researchers uncovered were that food production will become unstable, road safety will decrease and the job market will become insecure. In the meantime, CoAL announced this week that the Vele mine had been granted an amendment to its environmental authorisation. This means that the project is closer to its re-opening goal. "The decision by the DEA is welcomed. We will await the receipt of all regulatory approvals before the commencement of the plant modification," said CoAL CEO Mr David Brown. CoAL is also seeking to renew its integrated-water-use licence and amendment and expects this to be approved in the second quarter of the year.

SANCA close their centre at Musina News that the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) had to close their satellite centres in Musina and Phalaborwa, due to a lack of funding, was met with shock from several quarters. The Democratic Alliance (DA) was especially outraged over this turn of events, stating that the closure of the centres comes at a time when more than 50% of Limpopo residents are using marijuana and a high percentage of the population is hooked on CAT/Tik and other drugs. The DA’s shadow minister of social development, Ms Lindy Wilson MP, recent paid an oversight visit to SANCA and was very disturbed to find out how desperate the situation had become in Limpopo. “The Department of Social Development only provides funding of 75% of salaries of social workers at SANCA. The running costs of SANCA, salaries for nurses, the administrator and auxiliary workers at the centre are not funded and SANCA has to rely on payment for services and generous donations to keep their doors open. Some funding was
received by LOTTO, but this has also decreased,” says the DA in a press release. SANCA, an outpatient rehabilitation facility, is the only centre offering facilities to drug addicts in the province. Addicts seeking help from areas as far as Waterberg, Sekhukhune, Mopani and Vhembe are now forced to try and get to Polokwane for help. “With only three social workers at Polokwane, SANCA does not have the means to assist in other areas of the province,” the DA says. A vast majority of these patients come from the poorest of the poor communities, and do not have the financial means to come for testing, for medical assistance or counselling on a weekly basis. Without help and support, and with drugs becoming more easily available, the DA warns, the addiction rate in Limpopo continues to escalate. Of major concern to the DA is the lack of Local Drug Action Forums in Limpopo’s municipalities. “The Substance Abuse Act, 70 of 2008, states that every province must have a provincial Substance Abuse Forum and every municipality must have a
Local Drug Action Committee. These forums must be established and must include stakeholders such as the SAPS, the departments of Health and Education, SANCA, research institutions, local business and NGOs,” the DA says. They add that, although there is a provincial forum which meets regularly, it has not introduced any projects that have made an impact. “However, it would appear that the majority of municipalities in the province do not have a Local Drug Action Committee. This is a breach of a gazetted Act and therefore an offence,” the DA states. Wilson says she will be calling for urgent meetings with the Minister of Social Development, Minister Dhlamini, asking for urgent answers with regard to the disregarding of the Act and what the Minister has done to rectify this untenable situation. “If she cannot show evidence of attempts by the department to rectify this breach of the Act, we will have to consider further action. Had these forums been in place and if the drug problem were being taken seriously, plans could have been put in place to alleviate the suffering of many,” Wilson says.

Best taxi drivers receive certificates The best drivers of the Dzanani II Taxi Association received certificates during a ceremony at Ravele a fortnight ago. More than 20 drivers were honoured for their good services to their passengers. The chairperson of the Dzanani II taxi association, Mr David Matshavha, said that the awards were given to show appreciation to the hardworking men in the association for their
selfless sacrifices. “These are the men who raise the flag of the association. The tokens we are giving today will serve to motivate those who have still not decided to act now and develop the organisation. Your fighting spirit, dedication and perseverance have taught everyone that is nothing is impossible,” said Matshavha. One of the recipients, Mr Eric Siwada, said expressed the hap-
piness of the recipients and said that the drivers must improve their driving skills. Some of the drivers, who want to remain anonymous, said that the awards are biased because the executive committee chose their own drivers and left drivers who deserved awards behind. They said that if the executive committee wanted to choose, they should have consulted them to vote for the best drivers.

Black Leopards strengthen team with two new top strikers As part of their strategy to strengthen their striking force, Black Leopards have acquired the services of two top strikers. According to the spokesperson of the club, Mr Berry Ramunenyiwa, Mpho Mmbebe and Roggert Nyundu are now the property of Lidoda Duvha. Ramunenyiwa revealed that the deal that will see the duo in Leopards’ gear for two seasons was concluded on Tuesday. Mmbebe was recruited from Lamontville Golden Arrows, while
Nyundu is from Polokwane City. Ramunenyiwa further stated that the two will be a solution to the team’s problems relating to goal scoring. He reiterated the fact that although the team had been playing entertaining football since the beginning of the season, it was difficult for them to find the net. Mmbebe and Nyundu joined the rest of the players at the team’s session on Tuesday afternoon. This was confirmed by the team’s assistant coach, Mr Joel Masutha. According
to Ramunenyiwa, the management of the team was worried about the fact that the club had signed a number of strikers at the beginning of the season with the aim of solving their scoring problems, an effort which bore no fruits. Some of the strikers the Thohoyandou outfit managed to secure at the beginning of the season include Sanele Mkhize and Bongani Manana. Mkhize has scored only one goal in the 16 matches they have played to date, while Manana is still to register
his name in the league’s goal scorers’ record book. Lidoda Duvha’s current leading goal scorer is a midfielder, Leonard Ntshangase. Ramuneyiwa added that they were trying to sign another top striker before the registration window period closes at the end of business today (Friday). Black Leopards will put their new recruits to the test when they host Jomo Cosmos at the Thohoyandou Stadium in a league match on Wednesday, February 11.
Mr Berry Ramunenyiwa.

Two women, Memory Maphosa (39) and Vuyiswa Mabasa (23), appeared in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and were charged with being in possession of drugs. Chuch fundraiser
Pancake evening at St Marks church On Tuesday, 17 February, the St. Mark's Anglican Church in Louis Trichardt will host a pancake evening, better known as Shrove Tuesday, commencing at 17:30 at the church. This will form part of the church’s annual fundraising
efforts. Shrove Tuesday occurs the first Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. It officially ends the season of Epiphany and is the vigil for the starting of Lent. The name "Shrove Tuesday" is derived from the word "shrive", which means to con-
fess and receive absolution. The name denotes a period of cleansing, wherein a person brings their lusts and appetites under subjection through abstention and self-sacrifice. For more information, phone Rev. Robbie Novella at Tel 083 400 6152.

Joe Express and Bilika in Motsepe clash After donating points in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Giyani Stadium last weekend, Bilika All Stars have another mountain to climb this weekend. They will host Joe Express at the same venue tomorrow afternoon. It remains to be seen whether Bilika All Stars will rise to the occasion and make Joe Express pay for the 0-2 defeat they had suffered at the hands of Dynamos. On the other hand, Express must win the match at all cost in order to remain a hot contender for the league championship. Express are in the fourth position on the log with 14 points, 10 behind the pace setters, Bellevue
Winners Park. The Express killer striker, Levy Matshavha, will be available for selection tomorrow. He missed last weekend’s match against The Dolphins as a result of family commitments. The combination of Dakalo Ratshitanga and Aubrey Ndou as Express’s defence will give the Stars’ strikers headaches if they are taken for granted. Great North FC will host A1 Terrors at the Seshego Stadium in what promises to be a humdinger. Lephalale Young Killers will have a date with Giyani Hotspurs at the Mogol Stadium in Lephalale. Lephalale Young Killers are
not an easy side to beat, especially in their backyard. Winners Park and Modimolle Aces will fight for points at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane, and Blue Rocks will pay a visit to Mighty FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The match of the week will be between The Dolphins FC and Magezi FC at the Eldorado Stadium in Polokwane. Magezi and Dolphins are closely contesting the league title. Bellevue Winners Park will host Dynamos at the Nkowankowa Stadium, while Mosesetjane All Stars will play against Polokwane United at the Mahwelereng Stadium on Sunday.

Ladies FC for sale The Vhembe-based Bakone Ladies FC of Shayandima is up for grabs. The team participates in the Safa Limpopo Sasol League. This was revealed by the chairman of the club, Mr Eddy Masia. According to him, the decision to get rid of the franchise was reached during a management meeting. He indicated that the decision to sell the franchise was influenced by the fact that he paid for the dayto-day activities of the team and that he was not receiving any assistance. Masia was not prepared to reveal any price for the franchise, and said it was a matter between the seller and the prospective buyers. Bakone were the hot favourites for the league championship last season, but they ended disappointing the team’s supporters as they finished their league programme in the fourth position on the log. Prospective buyers can contact Masia at 071 233 7711.

Western Stars shock Makhitha Stars
Huge victory for Themba Sunrise Riders
Madombidzha Western Stars strengthened their position on the league log when they beat the much-feared Makhitha Oscar Stars 1-0 in an MMK Administrators match at Madombidzha on Sunday. Although two of their key players, Matari Netshidzivhe and Percy “Quantum” Munonoka, were not part of the team, Stars were by far the better side when it came to ball possession. Rhulani Maringa of Oscar was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Thabo Matuba from behind and the referee was quick to produce yellow. Realizing that there was no stability in their midfield, the coach of Oscar decided to effect an early change to the starting line-up. He replaced Godwin Mahuwa. No goal was scored in the first
Themba Sunrise Riders deposited another three points into their league account, following their 4-0 victory over Vhufuli Pull Together in their MMK Administrators Soccer League match at the Vhufuli Domboni grounds on Sunday afternoon. The victory was a true reflection of the game as Pull Together were out of touch from the onset to the bitter end. The referee flashed the first yellow card in the 17th minute. Maanda Mashandule of Sunrise Riders was warned for protesting against the referee’s decision. The visitors from Ngwenani-Ya-Themeli created numerous scoring chances in the first half, but they managed to convert only one. Their slender striker, Aluwani Radzilani, forced his way through the defence of Pull Together before beating the keeper with a ground cutter. The keeper of Pull Together, Humbelani Malade, was the busiest player on the pitch. He braved a number of close-range shots from the Riders’ strikers in the second half. At that stage, his defenders were playing with their backs against the wall. Riders increased the margin in the 57th minute. Thendo Mathobo hooked in the ball after a brilliant pass from Ntakadzeni Nendauni. Ntsieni Ramabulana of Sunrise Riders was reprimanded with a card for obstructing Khuliso Mathule in the 64th minute. Dynamos FC on top in derby match Last weekend was an ugly one for the ABC Motsepe League newcomers, Bilika All Stars. They lost 0-2 to their neighbours, Dynamos FC, in their Giyani derby at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday. Polokwane United are still battling to come to terms with what happened to them at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane last Friday. They were walloped 0-6 by
Bellevue Winners Park. Their victory means that Winners Park are still on top of the 16-team log with 24 points, two ahead of Magezi FC. Joe Express played to a 1-1 draw with The Dolphins at Makwarela. Magezi FC are still celebrating their historic 6-0 victory at the expense of Mighty FC. Magezi took the game to Mighty from the onset. Three of their goals were scored within the first
30 minutes. Mosesetjane All Stars lost 1-2 to Great North FC at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane. The match between Blue Rocks and Winners Park was declared a walkover for Winners Park as Blue Rocks did not honour the fixture. Modimole Aces drew 2-2 with Lephalale Young Killers. Giyani Hotspurs and A1 Terrors played to a 2-2 draw at the Giyani Stadium.
Ntsieni Ramabulana of Riders controls the high ball.
Nedbank Cup
Can Winners Park beat Vasco da Gama? Following the draw for the Nedbank last-32 teams which was conducted at the Supersport studios two weeks ago, Bellevue Winners Park are adamant that they will beat their last-32 opponents and proceed to the last-16 stage of the prestigious competition. Winners Park are the amateur side representing Limpopo Province in the competition. Winners Park will host the NFD side, Vasco da Gama, at the Giyani Stadium on 21 February. According to the coach of Winners Park, Mr Joel Mongalo, Vasco da Gama will be in for a big surprise if they take Winners for granted. He stressed the fact that they did not reach the last-32 stage by default, saying it was through hard work and dedication.
Mongalo further stated that playing in the Nedbank Cup did not mean they would forget about the league title. According to him, winning the Nedbank Cup will be a bonus to the team’s fans as their focus is to gain promotion to the national first division at the end of the season. Winners Park are currently shining on top of the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League. The last 32 matches will be played over the weekend of 20 to 22 February. The fixtures are: Bellevue Winners Park vs Vasco da Gama, Bidvest Wits vs Free State Stars, Amazulu vs Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces vs Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates vs Tornado FC, University of Pretoria vs Moroka Swallows,
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Thanda Royal Zulu, Supersport United vs Polokwane City, African Warriors vs Maluti FET College, Black Leopards vs FC Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic vs Shining Stars, Chippa United vs Natal United, Phiva Young Stars vs Jomo Cosmos, Kaizer Chiefs vs Africa All Stars, Platinum Stars vs The Magic FC and Mainstay United vs Ajax Cape Town.

Joe Express and the Dolphins share The Dolphins FC rose to the occasion and held Joe Express to a 1-1 draw in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday. Express were lucky to escape with a point as the visitors from Polokwane were the better side when it came to ball possession throughout the game. The technical team of Express took long to realize that their centre forward, Simon Atamhewani, was out of form. Instead of replacing him in the first half, they kept him in the field of play and only sacrificed him earlier in the last half. The Dolphins wasted three clear scoring chances in the first 25 minutes of the game. In the first instance, Johannes Mojapelo received a loose ball from the edge of the box and shot wide with the keeper already beaten. William Seoka's ground cutter hit the woodwork and bounced out for a goal kick. Thomas Ramalepe went loose from the left corner and unleashed a half-volley from the inside the box in the 24th minute. This time the keeper of Express, Thanyani Netshipale, jumped high to execute a brilliant save. No goal was scored during the first half, despite the Dolphins’ numerous scoring opportunities. The home side replaced Simon Atamhewani with Itumeleng Manyuma seven minutes into the last half. The Dolphins opened their account in the 68th minute. Maifo Madikana gave the ball the final touch after a scramble within the box. Dakalo Ratshitanga of Joe Express was reprimanded with a card for dangerous play moments afterwards. Joe Express fought back in the 79th minute. A substitute, Itumeleng Manyuma, finished off a square pass from Thembisani Nevhulamba. Express played defensive football for the remaining Ndivhuwo “Segere” Ravhuhali of Express part of the game. controls the ball.
