The organisation invited pupils from different schools around the area to participate in a drama competition. The organisers of the event stated that they were keen to fight criminal activities in their community by teaching people good morals through plays, poetry, drama and dance. Pupils from primary level to Grade 12 took part in drama, poetry and storytelling. “The competition is of vital importance in the future of these kids, because we are preparing them to face the future with confidence. We want to promote a culture of reading and encourage the learners to speak with confidence,” said Mr Lawrence Manenzhe, the founder and coordinator. He said he came up with the initiative after realising that young people had nothing positive to keep them busy, except soccer. “We wanted to come up with something new to keep them occupied. The main aim of the organisation is to develop the community through the community,” he explained. Women and other residents of H-Tshifura in Sibasa danced and ululated when the body of an alleged notorious criminal was taken away in a police mortuary van. This scene, something never experienced before in the local community, shocked those who did not know the dead man. The man, identified as Matodzi Mawela (35), was found by passersby in the early hours of Friday on their way to the local clinic. His body, which was soaked in blood and mud, lay sprawled at the local Tshifura sporting grounds. Residents from Makwarela, where he had lived, and the neighbouring villages came in numbers to confirm that he was indeed the dead man. The alleged criminal is known to have terrorised residents in his township of Makwarela and the neighbouring villages, and he was regarded as the mastermind behind crimes in the area. He allegedly stole from a house in the village and angry residents gave chase. They caught up with him and beat him with an assortment of weapons, leaving him for dead. After positively identifying him, the residents rejoiced. Some were singing songs that they would henceforth sleep with their doors open, while others were singing that he should rest in peace. “We are happy that he was killed; this is one fewer problem for us. We have been under siege by criminals in the area, with many houses broken into and items stolen. The worst part of it is that, not long ago, they also killed a woman not far from here, and this made us live in fear. If criminals are killed this way, it will send a message to others that it does not pay and perhaps they will refrain from doing crime,” said a woman who did not want her name mentioned. Dr Alunamutwe Randitsheni, a well-known cleric who also did research in the field of ritual murders and who also happened to be at the scene, said that he was worried that impatient community members were now resorting to the killing of people they suspected of being involved in crime. “This is not right. First an SMS and then house gets torched the latter, who is originally from Plange Village at M’tititi, bought a stand and built a house. In the late hours of Saturday, Shibambu received an SMS that she was going to pay that night, because she was the one who was the guilty party in the divorce. “I had received messages before, but that night I did not sleep because I was told it was going to happen, and indeed it happened,” said Shibambu. The SMS indicated that there were still people the assailant was looking for who were involved with Vongi. When it finally happened, Shibambu said she heard a banging sound. She went out of the house to see what was happening and she saw that one of the rooms had caught fire. “What I did was to move my cars to an adjacent yard while, at the same time, calling the police and fire brigade. The police responded very fast, but by the time the fire brigade arrived, everything was burnt to ashes,” she said. Nothing was saved from the house and the damage is estimated at more than half a million rands.
The two incidents have sent shock waves through Malamulele Township, with residents not knowing who will be the next victim. In both instances, the sisters are blaming the police for not assisting them in time. “I showed the police the SMS and wanted to open a case, but a relative of my former husband who works at the police station told me not to open a case. The threats stopped, but they were finally carried out when my house was burnt down,” she said. She further indicated that if the police had acted timeously, they would have made arrests already and that her house and that of her sister would not have been burnt. Limpopo police spokesperson Col Ronel Otto said the police would thoroughly investigate the incident. “We have opened arson cases and we have assigned the case to seasoned detectives. We hope a breakthrough will be made soon.” We are also going to investigate why the women were not given help when they lodged a complaint at the police station,” she said..

She said jubilantly that the replacing of her old uniform with the new protective clothing was a motivation to her and her co-workers. “The fact that our names are engraved on the uniforms will allow community members to identify us easily.” Muleya’s sentiments were echoed by fellow employees Nelson Manyaga and Thomas Kwinda. Manyaga said: “I am very happy to receive this protective clothing today. Having uniforms will improve service delivery, since it helps community members This is all that was left to determine who’s when Vongi Mashaba’s there to help them.” The proud recipients of new protective clothing are, from left to right, house burnt down. The burning of houses in Malamulele Township after their owners received threatening SMSs during the past two weeks has made some people anxious and had tongues wagging in the area. Recently, two sisters, Vongi Mashaba (34) and Queen Shibambu (43), both of whom live in the same township of Malamulele, had their houses torched after receiving threatening SMSs. They now want the police to unmask the perpetrator, hoping he will be arrested. Vongi, a driver at Thulamela Municipality, was divorced in 2011 and has been receiving messages since parting with her husband from someone purporting to be her ex-husband. This year she received a message that she would feel pain and that her house would be burnt down. This did indeed happen on 20 September 2015. She lost thousands of rands in the attack and it has still not been repaired, mainly because she lacks the finances to repair her house. After her divorce, Mashaba stayed with Shibambu, before

Youths given job-preparedness training A large number of youths in the Makhado area benefited from a comprehensive job-preparedness workshop that was recently hosted by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) at Tshikota community hall and the show grounds in Louis Trichardt. The events, which were hosted in association with the Louis Trichardt-based organisation Uprising Youth Development, was intended to equip people under the age of 35 with the knowledge and skills required to prepare them for the world of work. “All participants also received information on how to prepare a good business plan for their bright ideas and access financial funding from NYDA,” said Tshilisano Mudau from Uprising Youth Development. He said they had requested NYDA to come and interact with the local youths as a means of opening

business opportunities for them. “Job-preparedness enables young people to develop a positive attitude in life and a encourages a willingness to try new ideas,” he said. “Prospective job seekers hardly know what the interviewers need for a successful candidate. Job seekers must maintain high standards and pay attention to detail when preparing for CVs, interviews and their personal image.” Mr Tummy Matibe from NYDA in Limpopo took the attendants through the job-preparedness process, from preparing a CV to the actual interview. He indicated that the way to write a CV was to consider what recruitment agencies and prospective employers would be looking for among the thousands of CVs they received from job seekers. He indicated that any jobseeker must prepare for the interview thoroughly. “People must conduct research as part of preparing for the interview,” he told the youths. “Demonstrate acceptable behaviour and ask important questions during the interview. Then you must also review your own performance after the interview.” He explained that many interviewees had sufficient skills for a position. “But, unfortunately, if you are unable to articulate these skills during an interview, the interviewer may never get to know that you are the perfect candidate,” he said. Matibe told the youths that the time had come for them to stop thinking of the interview process as an insurmountable hurdle. “With the right preparation, things can be different,” he said.

headman for the sake of proper governance. “We need development in the whole village, and one way to achieve that is proper governance and that our people get services closer to them. They do not have to travel far for something that they could get from the headman,” said Muraga. Quoting from the Bible, Muraga urged the new headman to be humble and to listen to advice from the family and elders of the village. “Expectations are high from the community and this will need you to be dedicated. Do not undermine the family as they have the right to remove you from the position, and please let us work together for the benefit of our people,” added Muraga. In his words of encouragement to the new headman, Arch-
bishop Elias Miriri of the morethan-one-million-strong United African Apostolic Church urged the new headman to revere God if he wanted his rule to endure. “You are not a chief but a mouthpiece of the chief in the area. Do not overstep your boundaries. Be a humble servant of the chief and seek the wisdom of God. Do not drown yourself in booze and not womanize and all will be well with you,” he said. The local Thulamela ward councillor David Mamushiana commended the family and Chief Muraga for having filled the vacant position, saying it would work to the advantage of the village in terms of development. The new headman said he would work under the chief for the benefit of the people.

Takalani
addresses social issues By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho
By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The reggae-gospel singer Jah Lady will launch her much-awaited new DVD at Highway in Madombidzha village on Saturday. The launch has attracted a dozen artists in the reggae genre who will be supporting her. It will be a day and night of song and more music. The event starts at 14:00. Jah Lady dropped a reggae album earlier this year, entitled Ndi do mu gwadamela. According to people who have already bought and listened to the album, Jah Lady gives her all as she takes listeners to greener pastures with her velvety voice. “I will be launching the DVD, which will comprise all the songs contained on Ndi do mu gwadamela,” she said, “such as Holy Spirit,
Give me power, Vho hangwa u livhuwa, Ndu wale tshifhambano, Shango ndi la Mudzimu, and Khotsi anga.” Even though Ndi do mu gwadamela is Jah Lady’s first reggae album, some of her previous songs contained elements of the genre. “I love the genre and my social circles include the Rastas and those who love this music,” she said. The artists who will perform during the launch include BlackJahman, Malondolo, Tshidino Ndou, Mariana, Adziambei Band, Corner Stone, Chris Thiba, RasFinger, David Mmbi, Jininka, Mashudu Nematoka, King Mlatiro and many more. Her previous albums include Baxolele Nkosi (2009) and Murena He Vha Vula Hone (2014). Those interested in the event or Jah Lady’s music can reach her at 076 127 0323.
Many people might not have seen Takalani Mudau perform on stage, but his music needs no introduction to Tshivenda music lovers. His versatility in Afro-soul beats and active voice had earned him respect in Vhembe and beyond the borders of Limpopo province. He was born in Dzimauli village outside Thohoyandou. The song which also made his name popular in the music fraternity is Fusheani. “The song tells the story of a husband who tries his best to satisfy his wife, but she cheats on him instead,” he says. Some of the songs which might sound familiar to music lovers are Heartbreaker, Bangakupalula, Ha balelwi, Ni shanduka lini, Second best, Ndi la mutodzi u shamani and Nkhangweleni. Takalani said the biggest achievement in his music career came in 2013 when he won the Best Tshivenda Afro-soul award in the Tshivenda Music Awards. “I always knew my turn would come,” Takalani said. Takalani feels that, as an artist who came, saw it all and made it in the industry, he has an obligation

to encourage upcoming musicians to work hard but put education first. “I would like to encourage young musicians to go to school,” Takalani said. “We are living in trying times where education is paramount.” He stated that the secret of making good music and mastering music did not happen overnight. “It took me many years to be where I am today,” he said. He has seven albums under his belt. His latest album, Thikho, is gaining massive airplay on Phalaphala FM and community radio stations such as Makhado FM and Univen FM. “My passion for music started when I was very young,” he said. “I used to sing in church. But credit must go to Gabriel “The Great” Tshisikule, who mentored me until I opened my own studio, known as TK Records.” Takalani told Limpopo Mirror he had composed music for artists such as Tshidino Ndou, Sivhara Mulaudzi, Ishmael Mudau, Ras Mishy, Lecia “Tshinakaho” Nthambeleni and many more. Thousands gather at Magangeni to pay respect to Muvhango’s Vho-Mushasha The veteran actor Vho-Sammy Moeti was laid to rest at Magangeni village on Saturday. He passed away in the early hours of 13 October at Elim Hospital after a long illness. The 66-year-old actor will be remembered for his roles in the SABC TV soapie, Muvhango (where he played the role of Vho-Mushasha), as well as Elelwani and some earlier stage plays. According to his wife, Mrs Rejoice Moeti (40), Sammy started acting at a very young age. She

recalled his being a good storyteller who would sit down and tell her, family members and friends about his acting career, which spanned several decades. “He had two photo albums which tell the story of a life well lived and an acting career fully explored,” she said. “To me, his company was always enjoyable and now I cannot help feeling the void he has left in my life. He was a soulmate to a woman who loved him, and a loving father to a son, Mpho.” The mourning son, Mpho Moeti (36), who is Moeti’s only child, said that his father’s passing away had affected h i m d e e p l y. “We had a very good relationship which transcended the boundaries of a father-son kind of relationship,” he said. “He was my friend, brother and all that you
can imagine.” Mpho’s mother, Vho-Azwinndini Clara Muthambi, passed away shortly after his birth. “I lost my mother when I was three months old,” he said. “You can imagine how close I became to my father. Yes, I take solace in the knowledge that God had given me a good father who lived on this earth and touched many lives through his acting career.” Sammy Moeti was the son of Vho-Matamela Adel Moeti and Vho-George Mutoda Moeti. He attended Xingwedzi Teaching College, attempting a course in teaching. He quit the course after two years, however, and went to Gauteng to pursue a career in acting. An actress, Ms Maggie “Matron Mudagasi” Mathalise, said that the industry and society had lost a polished and seasoned gem of an actor. “I met him several times when I was an amateur who was still doing auditions and he encouraged me,” she said. Thousands of people had sent words and released statements of condolence through various media forms to the bereaved family and the Muvhango family.
Vho-Sammy Moeti’s acting career started early in his life when he frequented theatres and other production venues to showcase his acting talent.

New warrant tracing vehicle for Musina As part of accelerating service delivery, the Musina Local Municipality recently purchased a warrant-tracing vehicle at a cost of R450 000. Mr Daniel Hlungwane, who heads the traffic department of the Musina Municipality, acknowledged that the newly acquired vehicle will help in speeding up service delivery. “We didn’t have enough vehicles and I am happy that this vehicle will help us to execute our duties with ease. It has definitely come at the right time as we anticipate high volumes of traffic towards the end of
the year.” Hlungwane warned motorists that the time for absconding with traffic fines will be a thing of the past. “We will use this vehicle to trace offenders who do not pay for their traffic fines. The law is clear that if you are issued with a traffic fine, you don’t have any other option but to pay. It is a criminal offence not to pay any traffic fine as issued by a traffic officer.” The communications manager of Musina Municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu, said: “Given its geographic location, Musina experiences high volumes of traffic on a daily basis. Provid-
ing our traffic officers with the necessary tools of the trade will go a long way in helping them to execute their duties easily. This is one of our many measures in place to accelerate service delivery to our people.” One of the traffic officers, Mr Douglas Simali, said that the provision of relevant resources by their employer was a clear indication that the issue of service delivery was a priority. “The acquisition of this vehicle will encourage us to work hard because we know that our employer cares for us. We will also be able to provide service to our people promptly.”
Granny brutally strangled before attackers make off with her meagre belongings A granny met a tragic end when she was brutally strangled before her killers fled with her belongings. The incident recently happened at Waterval. Gogo Gladys Marholeni (74) was in her room when unknown attackers entered her house. Although the facts surrounding the attack are still extremely sketchy, the room in which she was killed was in disarray and the walls were spattered with blood, which shows that the whole room was ransacked and the attack was vicious. Police spokesperson Col Ronnel Otto said they had opened a murder case, following the incident. She appealed to the community to furnish the police with all the necessary information that could help them apprehend the
perpetrators. “With the support we are getting from our communities, it will be just a matter of time before we catch up with the thugs. Our communities have always been very supportive in the past and we hope they will do the same here,” she said. At this stage, it is not known what instrument was used to kill the granny. The chairperson of the Makhado Sanco region, Mr Andy Munyai, described the killers as sadists as they could have taken everything from her without having to use violence. “She was a defenceless old granny who could not offer any resistance and the killers could have removed whatever they wanted without having to kill her. They are heartless and do not deserve to live with people,” he said. He said
the death had left the community devastated and sad. Munyai said they were just hoping that police would do their part and make sure that the culprits were brought to book and answered for their actions. “As leaders, we are very concerned about the death of defenceless people. We feel that the community has to stand up and join police in the fight against crime. We cannot just sit down and watch while our people are being killed,” he said. Munyai called for unity and an intensification of the fight against crime by the community, in conjunction with the police. He said they were looking at ways of reviving the neighbourhood watch and street committees that would make it difficult for criminals to infiltrate the community.

Moudy Mudzielwana has urged young people around Vhembe to make use of opportunities and create jobs.
young people are succeeding - achieving their dreams and ambitions in life - while simultaneously enjoying the fun life has to offer. He said that Vhembe was one of the fastest-emerging economic districts in South Africa and it boasted some of the best young entrepreneurs. At his young age, he has tried his hand at different initiatives while trying to experiment with life. “I want our young entrepreneurs in the region to support, empower and to invest in the youth who stand up and participate in the economic development of our country. We must tackle poverty and unemployment in our communities through different businesses,” Mudzielwana said. He is a man filled with passion and dreams. “I consider myself to be driven, not by the desire for glory or riches, but by the compassion for my fellow human beings,” he says. During his years of study, he became actively involved in projects to enhance entrepreneurial skills. He is currently sponsoring the Mutale Football Association to the tune of R136 000 and helping young people by paying their tuition fees. He employs 15 young people from poor backgrounds around Vhembe. “My motive is to unite the youth through business and encourage discussions that will lead someone somewhere in life, to ensure a better life and promote entrepreneurship,” he says.

are swelling on a daily basis, with an earlier estimated number of 2 million. As almost the entire group was Christian, people could not hide their excitement upon their visit to the shrine of the Virgin Mary, where it is believed she lived in her last years. Again, pictures inside the house were not allowed, but people were allowed to light candles, make a wish and write down messages, which were pasted on a huge wall filled with messages from tourists who had visited the shrine over the years. The wishes range from world peace to personal wealth! One could not but marvel at the thrill written on the faces of our people when they descended on the antique city of Ephesus, the most complete city ever uncovered and one of the most important ancient sites in Turkey. This is where the Christian community received letters from the Apostle Paul, which today constitute the book of Ephesians in the New Testament. Visiting this city was reminiscent of experiencing the actual teachings of Paul himself and the whole experience confirmed that Turkey was indeed a wise choice. The Basilica of St. John, where it is believed that the evangelist spent his last years, was more than the cherry on top! Over and above the awesomeness of moving from the European to the Asian side of Turkey in one day, our people were able to network amongst themselves as most of them are entrepreneurs. There is no doubt that key learnings from this wonderful country will contribute to the advancement of the entrepreneurial outlook of our people and this will flow into advancing innovation among our people. Most people had undertaken individual or group tours before; however, they were in unison in confirming that the experience they got from Phalaphala FM was better than ever. Overall, Phalaphala FM managed to give the listeners an experience of the personal feel of the brand, engaged with the listeners on a personal basis, creating emotional bonds and building long-term relationships. The question commonly asked as we returned home was, “where are we going next year?”
He has been called the golden voice, Ofhani Owen Muebi He has been called the golden voice, but what is certain is that Ofhani Owen Muebi has the ability to make people listen. Muebi is a well-known presenter, comedian, musician and people’s poet. “Vhaebi nga dzavho”, as he is more affectionately known, was born in Duthuni in the early eighties. He is part of a family of six children and he is the second son of Mutangwa Jameson and Mukondeleli Virginia Muebi of Duthuni. He started his primary education at Tshivhambe Junior Primary and later proceeded to Ratshiedana Primary school to complete Grade 5 up to Grade 7. His secondary school studies were completed at Ligege Secondary school in Duthuni. In 2002, he enrolled for a BA degree in international relations at the University of Venda. He completed his BA Degree and in 2007 he enrolled for a BA Hons degree in international relations. He fulfilled the requirements for a degree in community journalism in 2005. Muebi joined Univen Radio in 2005 where he was working as a field reporter, newsreader, producer and presenter of different programmes. In 2007 he joined SABC Radio, Phalaphala FM, as a producer and presenter of the current affairs show Ndevhetsini. During his time at the radio station, he managed to scoop up
25 awards from different institutions. His humility is stunning and he does not look down on people because of his status. In fact, he wants to be treated just like any other person. “I come from a respected family. It took time for my family to accept me as a musician. I became friends with people who played the guitar and I would join them in bars and sing,” he explains. Muebi, who is also a member of the United Apostolic Church, said as a child he often went to the bush to hunt animals and would scream a lot, which is how he found his voice. “I cried out through my music to find solutions to the difficulties I was facing,” he said. Speaking to Limpopo Mirror about his career highlights and challenges, Muebi said that he had achieved a lot, “but ultimately it’s about helping people.” “Being on a platform where you interact with listeners is a great thing. As a current affairs presenter and producer, I always make sure that I get the latest updates for listeners around the world,” he said. “I research a lot, as I believe that the team needs to excel when we go on air. We are all making sure that our show stays on top. “I believe that, in life, we are all equal. People should go out there and make a mark in their lives, as nothing is impossible. I’m always poking fun at people as a matter of encouraging them to be better in life,” said Muebi.

Thovhele Mulima finds a final resting place after 36 years of leadership
Road construction works in progress at Ward 5 of Musina Municipality. Development in Musina
Musina’s Ward 5 will soon boast with new paved access roads at cost of R9,1 million An amount of R9,1 million is being utilised to construct paved access roads in Ward 5 of Musina Municipality. The much-waited project is one of the community priorities as raised during the consultative meetings of the municipality. The 2,3 km road initiative started in the middle of September and is expected to be completed in February next year. Apart from promoting free traffic flow upon completion, the project has also provided seven job opportunities to local people who were previously unemployed. It is also expected that more job opportunities will be created as the project progresses.
The mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada, said that the municipality could never undermine the importance of providing quality services to its people. “This is just one part of Musina Municipality’s focus areas of improving the lives of our people. People here prioritised the construction of the roads and that is why we are doing it. The initiative will also assist to improve service delivery and speed up economic activities because this area will now be easier to access.” Mr Philimon Mathape, the community liaison officer of the project, said that the work was progressing very well “and we
have no doubt that the project will be completed at the stipulated time. Community members are happy about this new development and we receive positive reports on a daily basis.” One of the community members who resides in Ward 5, Mr Jonny Molepo, supported Mathape’s statement. “Everyone knows that we had challenges when it comes to roads here in ward 5. Our access roads were stony and dusty and during rainy days water would overflow into our yards and that also had an effect on our health. The paving of these roads will improve our driving experience and health.”
Thousands of mourners from different walks of life came together to pay their last respects to Thovhele Vho-Alpheus Mulima last Friday. The funeral was attended by the Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Muthambi,Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, MEC for Coghsta Makoma Makhurupetje and many chiefs around Vhembe. According to sources close to the family, the chief had been in and out of hospital battling poor health since late last year and he passed away a fortnight ago. Many described him as a good adviser and role model for the community. During the funeral, he was praised for his successful leadership since he took over as chief 36 years ago. MEC Makhurupetje said that the the traditional leader had been a hardworking and committed leader and she urged villagers to unite and work together for the good and the benefit of the community. Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana said Thovhele Mulima had been a determined and a faithful leader who had had a strong passion for development. “It will surely be a great challenge to fill the void that that has been opened through the death of Mulima, as there are few people of
his calibre,” he said. He urged the people of Mulima to unite and work together in order to build a good relationship with the government to enable service delivery. Mphephu described Mulima as a fallen hero who had been full of vision. He said that the chief had been involved in a number of developmental projects in his community. “By no way shall his mentality not be counted among the African intellectuals of our time. As we remember him, let us not mourn his departure, but let’s forever celebrate the legacy that he has left behind,” said Mphephu.

Anger erupts in Nthabalala after victim of crime dies
Alpheus Mudzulafhi was robbed, stabbed and finally died.
Community members at Nthabalala went on the rampage two weeks ago, following the death of a victim of robbery and assault. They demanded that the suspect be re-arrested and residents blocked the road from Nthabalala to Vleifontein and from Nthabalala to Tshitale. The suspect allegedly stabbed his victim and robbed him of cash and a cell phone. The incident happened on 3 October at Nthabalala when the man was on his way back home at around 20:30. After the attack, he was admitted to Elim hospital, but he died on 15 October. According to the police spokesperson in the Tshitale area, Const Rudzani Lukhwa, the suspect allegedly robbed the deceased of his belongings before stabbing him. The deceased was identified as the 65-year-old Alpheus Mudzulafhi. A suspect was later arrested and a
23-year-old man, Naphtal Thato Mainetje, appeared in the Tshitale Magistrate’s Court on 5 October on charges of assault and robbery. The case was postponed to 28 October and bail was set at R1 000. Once news of the death of the victim became known, community members seemed to become more upset with the apparent reluctance of the police to act against perpetrators. A community meeting was held on Saturday, 17 October, and the death of Mudzulafhi was discussed. That following Monday, members of the community went to all the schools around the area attempting to force the pupils to go out and support them in their demand that the alleged murder suspect be rearrested. The shops in the area were closed for some time and the roads around Nthabalala to Vleifontein and Tshitale were blocked. Angry members of the community even uprooted trees and put
them in the road. The family spokesperson, Mashudu Mudzulafhi, was overwhelmed with grief. “I am saddened and I am in a state of shock. I do not have any idea as to what could have happened,” he said. Mudzulafhi added that the family would love to see the law take its course. “We need answers because we do not know what had happened to him. We are not pointing fingers at anybody now, but we will wait for the law to take its course,” he added. Thovhele Vho-Vhutshilo Nthabalala Ramabulana appealed to the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He said the community should “help the police with information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects who are responsible for this murder.” He appealed to the community to leave the school children alone to go to school.

Musina Mayoral Fund to spend R1,2m on bursaries During the previous financial year, Musina Municipality managed to spend R492 376 in financing 12 students from indigent families. They are now furthering their education at different institutions of higher learning. The municipality has now increased the amount to R1,2 million this current financial year. It is against this background that the mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada, is calling on indigent prospective students to apply for a mayoral bursary for the 2016 intake. The students include those who are currently in Grade 12 and those who have already passed their Grade 12. qualifications after being funded by the municipality’s Mayoral Bursary scheme. They are now part of the municipality’s workforce,” he said. “They have signed contracts with the municipality and they are presently serving in different departments for a period of three years. This clearly displays that we are not just spending our money in vain,” said Ramoyada.

Phangaman is the new Limpopo champ Norman “Phangaman” Tshisikhawe became the new welterweight champion of Limpopo when he beat his opponent, Humbulani Netshamutshedzi, by means of a technical knock-out (TKO) in the ninth round of their fight at Meropa Casino last Friday. Tshisikhawe approached the fight very aggressively, throwing killer punches from all angles. This resulted in Netshamutshedzi’s going down in the first round, but he convinced the referee that he was fit to fight after the referee had counted to eight. The fight came to a halt for about two minutes in the second round to allow Netshamutshedzi to recover after a claim that he had been hit below the belt. Although the fight was scheduled to go to ten full rounds, the referee stopped it in the tenth round to save Netshamutshedzi from serious injuries. The tournament was staged by Limpopo Boxing Promotions. The junior flyweight fight between Tswarelo Moshoeneng and Tisetso Modisadise from Gauteng, which was scheduled over four rounds, was won by Modisadise on points. The light featherweight clash over six rounds between Thizwilondi Nempandoni and Tendani Munyai ended four rounds before the sched-
uled time. It was stopped by the referee because Nempandoni was bleeding from his nose and mouth. The World Boxing Association's international vacant bantam weight title was contested by Clautus Mbele and Mxolisi
Nombewu. The referee was left with no choice but to stop the fight in the fifth round to save Nombewu’s life. At that stage. Mbele was throwing numerous killer punches into Ndivhuwo’s face.

Nedbank matches throughout the region Last weekend was packed with entertainment, following the Nedbank matches that were played at the Tshifulanani Stadium and the Gwamasenga grounds. Only one match was played at the Gwamasenga grounds, while the rest were staged at the Tshifulanani Stadium. Gogobole Bucks were the hardest hit in the only match that was played at the Gwamasenga grounds on Saturday. They were brutally walloped 1-6 by Rockers FC, who played two matches that day. Their second match was against United Artists,
to whom they lost 0-1 at the Tshifulanani Stadium later in the afternoon. The goal through which United Artists booked a place in the semi-final stage of the competition came via Jeffrey Mungoni. He headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Thomas Makhubele. Makhitha Iya Runga were also booted out in the quarterfinal stage of the competition. They lost 9-10 to Mulima FC. The winner was determined via penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 fulltime score. This after Mulima came back from a 0-2 half-time deficit to level matters in the dying minutes of the game. Tshakhuma Na Ndilani were by far the better side when they brutally walloped Gwamasenga United Brothers 5-1 in the quarterfinal match. Gwamasenga United Brothers played the last 20 minutes of the game with 10 men. Their keeper, Ritshidze Tsanwani, was given his marching orders, following a dangerous tackle on Rofhiwa Netshiungani. Tshakhuma Na Ndilani went on to beat Mukula Young Santos 6-5 in the semifinal on Sunday morning. The winner was determined via penalty shootout as the full-time score was 1-1. United Artists crushed Mulima FC 5-0 in the semifinal. Mpheni Home Defenders lost 1-2 to the defending champions, Mukula Young Santos. Tshakhuma Na Ndilani are waiting for the ABC Motsepe winners, with whom they will fight for a place Thomas Makhbele of Artists (left) and Terias Sithole of Mulima FC have in the national top 32 stage. lost sight of the ball. Dragons showed a great appetite for goals in the opening minutes of the game, while Mira adopted a wait-and-see pattern. The referee flashed yellow cards to two of Mira’s defenders. Tshedza Mulaudzi and Hector Nthulani were booked in quick succession for dangerous tackles. The keeper of Dragons, Bereka Vhulondo, kicked a striker of Mira, Tendani Madula, deliberately and the referee awarded a free kick. Rendani Madula of Mira scored from the spot. Baroka and Royal Eagles share the glory Last weekend was not a good one for the two Limpopo National First Division League sides, Baroka FC and Black Leopards. Leopards came back from Durban with empty hands, following their 0-1 defeat at the hands of Amazulu at the Princess Magogo Stadium. The Zambian international, Bornwell Nwepe, scored the goal which saw the Zulus grab full points in their own back yard. Black Leopards tried every trick in the book in their search for an equalizer, but it was just not their day. It was the second defeat for the Thohoyandou outfit in a row after suffering a 2-3 defeat to Mbombela United at the Thohoyandou Stadium two weeks ago. Baroka dropped to the second
position on the log, following their 2-2 draw against Royal Eagles at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Eagles meant business from the first whistle and it came as no surprise when their overlapping midfielder, Siyanda Ngubo, opened with a ground cutter in the 11th minute. It took the home side seven minutes to level matters. Victor Letsoalo was on target with a header to bring the half-time score to 1-1. The league’s top goal scorer, Thabiso Kutumela, scored Baroka’s second goal two minutes into the last half. The visitors from Durban never stopped fighting. They continued to display entertaining football, despite the fact that time was fast running out for them. Siyanda Ngubo completed his brace two minutes before the
final whistle. Mbombela United continued to collect points. This time around they beat Milano United 1-0 at the Kanyamazane Stadium. Thanda Royal Zulu ended Witbank Spurs’ five-match winning streak by beating them 2-3 at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay. Doing the damage for the Richards Bay side were Menzi Hlope, Christopher Komane and Michael Gumede. Cleopas Dube scored a brace for Spurs. Highlands Park returned to their winning ways by beating FC Cape Town 1-0 at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa. Santos registered their first victory of the season when they crushed African Warriors 2-1 at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Can Black Leopards maul Cape Town’s Santos on Saturday?
Dunga Munganga of Leopards.
It remains to be seen whether Black Leopards will make a comeback and collect full points in their NFD League match against Santos at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town tomorrow afternoon. While things seem to be moving from bad to worse in the Leopards’ camp, the situation looks different for Santos. The Cape Town side tasted their first victory last weekend after donating vital points in their opening seven matches. They registered their first win against African Warriors, whom they beat 2-1 at the Athlone Stadium last Saturday. At the same time, Leopards were beaten 0-1 by Amazulu at the Princess Ma-
gogo Stadium in Durban. According to Leopards’ assistant coach, Mongezi Bobe, they are going to Cape Town with one thing in mind, to collect full points and restore the team’s lost pride. Bobe revealed that their two key players, Jonathan King and the Malawian international, Harry Nyirenda, will be available for selection tomorrow after missing their last three matches due to injury. If given a chance, Nyirenda will form a deadly combination with Thivhavhudzi Ndou, Dunga Munganga and Marks Munyai at the back. Moroka Swallows will undertake a journey to Richards Bay where they will play against Thanda Royal Zulu at the Um-
hlatuze Sports Complex. Swallows are still battling to find a winning combination. Baroka will host African Warriors at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Baroka disappointed their enthusiastic supporters when they drew 2-2 with Royal Eagles at home last weekend. Royal Eagles will host Witbank Spurs at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban. Highlands Park will entertain Mthatha Bucks at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa and Cape Town All Stars will fight for league points with Amazulu at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Mbombela United will host FC Cape Town at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.

Phalaphala FM team too good for Mahosi a Venda The football team of Phalaphala FM hammered the Chiefs around Venda (Mahosi a Venda) 6-2 in a well-attended match at Matsila on Saturday. The Chiefs looked weary from the onset and never made any threatening moves. Their front-runner, Thovhele Ramovha, was cautioned for obstruction on Mzamzi Munyai in the seventh minute. Phalaphala's playmaker, Ofhani Muebi, could not live up to his fans’ expectations.
He was tightly marked and couldn't move freely Nyiko Sithole opened the score in the 16th minute and also scored the second four minutes later. Phala Phala's third goal came in the 35th minute, when Mzamzi Munyai dribbled past three Chiefs defenders in a row and scored easily to make the score 3-0 at half time. Phala Phala could have scored more than a dozen goals, had they managed to convert all their chances.
Chiefs' striker, Chief Mahandana Mabidi, missed a clear chance in the 60th minute. His team mate, Thovhele Ratshibvumo Rambuda, committed a similar blunder two minutes later. Lucky Tshilimandila and Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi of Phala Phala were lucky to get away with a yellow card. They obstructed Chief Livuwani Matsila and Thovhele Nthumeni Masia. Chief Mianzwi Netshimbupfe scored his team's first goal to reduce the score to 3-1. Phala Phala put

In the 80th minute, Nyiko Sithole completed his hat-trick when he beat the keeper hands down with a ground cutter. Chief Dehoop Masia was brought down and the referee pointed to the white spot, but Thovhele Masia failed to convert. Chief Mabidi scored the second goal of his team, while Alex Netshaphasha scored his team's sixth goal.

More woes for Leopards While Black Leopards were still battling to come to terms with the resignation of the team’s head coach, Mr David Bright, who tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning, the team lost 0-1 to Highlands Park in their NFD League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium that afternoon. The defeat was the third in a row for the Thohoyandou outfit. Just like in the two previous lost matches, Lidoda duvha dominated the proceedings from the first whistle up to the bitter end, only to concede silly goals in the dying
minutes of the games. Although he was tightly marked, Leopards’ killer striker, Ruggert Nyundu, threatened to score in the 14th minute. He received a neat pass from Marks Munyai and made a quick turn with the ball before unleashing a powerful ground cutter. The visitors’ keeper, Tapuwa Kapini, braved the shot to execute a brilliant save. Leopards strengthened their midfield by introducing Meshack Maphangule and sacrificed Jabulani Ndebele in the 34th minute. Highlands Park managed to
absorb the relentless pressure from the Leopards strikers until the referee blew the half time whistle. Lidoda duvha continued to take the game to the opponents in the last half, but Lady Luck was not on their side. They replaced their fast forward, Leonard Ntshangase, with Ivan Mahangwahaya seven minutes into the last half.
