Dit is ‘n oproep wat geen ouer wil kry nie. Gerhard en Christien Hollander het vreeslik daarna uitgesien om die komende Paasnaweek saam met hul sonskynkind te spandeer, maar verlede Vrydag is hulle meegedeel dat Johann (18) dood is. Hy is deur weerlig getref gedurende ‘n donderstorm. Die akademie is geleë op ‘n plaas, waar Johann ook gebly het. Hy het amper elke middag na klas saam met sy medestudente by die plaasdam gaan visvang. die koerant gesê. Hy en Kruger sal op 15 Junie in die Hooggeregshof verskyn, heel waarskynlik ten aanskoue van die wêreldmedia. Kruger se aansoek het, sedert hy dit in 2013 gebring het, reeds wyd debat ontlok. In sy aansoek vra Kruger dat sekere dele van die Wet op Biodiversiteit se regulasies oor beskermde of bedreigde spesies hersien en ongeldig verklaar moet word. Hy boer self met renosters en ander skaars wildsoorte, en meen dat die kommersiële handel in renosterhorings, met behoorlike beheer, ‘n meer sinvolle en volhoubare oplossing vir renosterstropery sal wees. Kruger het ook die hoop uitgespreek dat die hersiening van die regulasies renosterboere in staat sal stel om ‘n wins te maak. Hy het gesê dat as sy aansoek slaag, dit die handel sal oopstel, wat daartoe sal lei dat die vraag na en aanbod van renosterhorings behoorlik gemonitor sal word. “Die statistieke het dit bewys,” het Erwee gesê.

Die Zoutpansberger weet van twee onlangse gevalle waar renosters op plase in die Musina-omgewing doodgemaak is en van hul horings gestroop is. In een van die gevalle is ‘n renosterkoei, wat onder streng bewaking was, doodgemaak en haar kalfie vir dood agtergelaat. Die kalfie kon darem gered word.

Vhembe has “plans” to address water crisis
On Thursday, 19 March, Ridgeway College in Louis Trichardt competed against Mitchell House and Stanford Lake College in this year’s Private Schools Drama Festival. Ridgeway performed The Love of a Nightingale and won this year’s festival hands down. The drama club will be performing at the college on Wednesday, 22 April, at 18:30. Easter holiday period off to tragic start Even before the start of the upcoming Easter weekend, lo cal roads have already become treacherous, claiming the life of one woman. On Saturday afternoon (28th), a woman was killed in a accident along the N1 north (see article on page 4). This incident, and several other minor accidents, is why local traffic authorities and rescue personnel are bracing themselves for a busy period. Traffic volumes are expected to increase from Thursday until next Tuesday.
The manager of the Makhado Fire Station, Mr Jack Ramalatso, has stated that his department will participate in a visibility exercise from Thursday until Tuesday, 7 April. This exercise will also form part of an awareness campaign to remind motorists that speed kills and to be considerate to their fellow motorists. His advice to motorists who are travelling long distances is to stop regularly and rest before continuing on their journey. Especially, said Ramalatso, if travelling on rural roads where
stray and wild animals wander onto the road. Roads in the province, especially the N1, R71 and smaller roads, experience huge traffic volumes during Easter. Therefore, emergency medical services from Vhembe will also be on standby. For assistance, the Makhado Fire Brigade can be contacted at Tel 015 516 0554/2 or 015 516 5588, the call centre of the local emergency services at 015 516 2395 or the Makhado SAPS at 015 519 4300.
Following an article in last week’s Zoutpansberger regarding dire water shortages here in Louis Trichardt, the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) has broken its silence about the matter. According to VDM spokesperson Mr Matodzi Ralushai, the water shortages were caused by leaking water pipes. He did not confirm or deny rumours that water pumps had stopped working because their electricity supply had been cut off. At the beginning of March, rumours surfaced that the Makhado Municipality had cut off the VDM’s electricity supply to the water pumps because of the VDM’s failure to pay their accounts. According to the Makhado Municipality, the cutting of VDM’s power supply was a mistake that was soon realised and rectified. They did not comment any further on the allegations of VDM accounts being in arrears. Instead of commenting on these rumours, Matodozi opted to give an explanation regarding ageing water pipes that present a challenge for the
VDM. “...but the challenge is being addressed in short- and long-term plans,” said Matodzi. He did not give any particulars about these plans. He did, however, confirm that VDM is currently replacing old pipelines that form part of the Valdezi/Mowkop reservoir projects. Furthermore, Matdozi replied to questions put to him after a fire had broken out at Louis Trichardt Scrapyard nearly two weeks ago. He was asked whether it was acceptable for a fire station to function without water in an emergency situation, as was the case at Louis Trichardt Scrapyard. Matodzi said that it was true that no water had been readily available in the immediate area of the crisis, but indicated that VDM had plans to prevent such things from happening in the future. “The municipality plans to drill boreholes at the fire station to quickly respond to a crisis, even in time of water infrastructure maintenance, leakages and repairs,” said Matodzi.

Nog vyf ander verdagtes is ook by die huis gearresteer en onwettige sigarette met ‘n geskatte straatwaarde van sowat R154 300 is gekonfiskeer. Al die verdagtes sal in aanhouding bly tot en met hul volgende hofverskyning later dié week. Intussen duur die polisie-ondersoek voort.

Newspaper falls prey to some “midnight shopping” In contrast to reporting on other people being the victims of crime, the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror found themselves on the receiv ing end of crime the past weekend. At first nobody took notice of the newspaper’s Toyota Quantum delivery van parked behind their offices over weekends. Why should they? - it’s been parked there for years now. Marketing manager Pieter Jooste’s sharp eye, however, spotted that something was amiss. First off, the back wheels were out of alignment, protruding from under the wheel arches. A shock awaited us upon closer inspection. It was soon noticed that all four wheels had been removed and apparently replaced haphazardly to avoid early detection that something was wrong. Wheel nuts laid scattered under the vehicle, along with other nuts and bolts. A look underneath the vehicle soon revealed the true extent of what had happened – the gearbox, transfer case, driveshaft and the diff’s centre portion were gone! Yes, over the weekend thieves had done some shopping for spares at the expense of the newspa-
per. It was obvious that the thugs had had all the time in the world as removing all of these components is no quick exercise. It was also clear that the thieves who had carried out the “midnight spares” exercise knew exactly what they were doing. “You would not believe it, but they did not even trigger the car alarm. When I put the keys in the ignition and turned it on, everything on the dash lit up as it should,” said newspaper owner Anton van Zyl. It was kind of strange that someone would take the time to remove all the wheels, only to replace them again. The wheels are in good order and would not take long to sell on the “informal” market. “I suspect these guys were working according to a specific ‘shopping list’ for specific parts. The wheels were of no interest to them,” said Anton. The police were notified of the theft and quickly responded by taking fingerprints and opening a docket. “This is really getting ridiculous! I am outraged at the criminals’ blatant disrespect for other people’s property. Has it really come down to this? – if you need it, steal it!” remarked Jooste. He was sure
that by the time the theft was spotted, the stolen parts were already running on the road again as part of somebody else’s vehicle. “These criminals do not realise the long-term impact their actions have. They are extremely short-sighted. One can

Die Soutpansberg-gemeenskap het die afgelope week met hartseer afskeid geneem van ‘n liewe en dierbare inwoner, mev. Ansie van der Linde. Sy is op 23 Maart in die ouderdom van 70 jaar oorlede. “Herinneringe kan nooit sterf nie en as ons aan Ansie dink is daar so baie om te onthou,” sê suster Lea Herman. New acting municipal manager for Vhembe Ms Sindisiwe Magwaza will act as municipal manager for the Vhembe district municipality until a full-time municipal manager is appoint ed. She is the general manager of development planning in the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs. Ms Magwaza holds an MSc in development planning and she was appointed acting municipal manager of Vhembe on 16 March. “My priorities include, among others, to facilitate the provision of services, in particular water, to the communities of
Vhembe, to ensure efficient financial management and to accelerate the implementation of capital projects,” said Magwaza. The executive mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, was in a jovial mood when he presented Magwaza to the employees of the Vhembe district municipality. “We are blessed to receive a knowledgeable acting municipal manager. She will also do site visits to assess progress and the challenges faced by employees in their work place, and I request employees to give her the necessary support that she needs,” said Matibe.

Daarvoor is die omvang en impak net te groot,” het mnr. Paul Colditz, uitvoerende hoof van FEDSAS, gesê. Die Organisasie vir Godsdiensonderrig en Demokrasie (OGOD) het verlede jaar gevra dat die Grondwethof dit ongrond
wetlik verklaar dat sekere godsdienspraktyke voorkeur geniet bo ander. Ses skole word in die aansoek genoem. Die beheerliggame van die skole is lede van FEDSAS en FEDSAS vorm deel van dié beheerliggame se regspan. “Die stem van die kinders is deurslaggewend. Wat het geword van werksetiek en verantwoordbaarheid by Makhado?
W
at nogal uitgestaan het in Maart 2015, as inwoner van Louis Trichardt, is die 14 waterlose dae by die huis wat veroorsaak het dat die noodvoorraad in die tenk ook begin klaar raak het. Tereg is water sonder twyfel belangriker as die wêreldbeker krieketkampioenskappe. Tydens ‘n telefoniese gesprek Donderdagoggend, 26 Maart, met ‘n baie vriendelike behulpsame dame by die Makhado Munisipaliteit oor my watertekort, belowe sy om dadelik ‘n tenkwa te reël om water te kom aflaai. Die belofte word ‘n paar minute later bevestig deur ‘n man wat ook bevestig dat die tenkwaens besig is om by Albasini Waterwerke vol te maak en binnekort sal aflewer. Wel, Donderdag het gekom en gegaan. Vrydag, 27 Maart, om 15:39 doen ek per SMS navraag by mnr. Belofte rakende die aflewering van die water (U moet weet na twee dae se lappie-lappie begin jy ruik waar jy nie gedink het jy kan ruik nie). Hier volg nou mnr. Belofte se SMS antwoord: ‘AM SORRY, MOST OF THE TRUK DRIVERS WERE ON A MARCH TODAY.’ Wonder nou, hulle het hopelik water by hulle gehad om hulle dors te les tydens die opmars. As die President van die land nie verantwoordelikheid wil neem vir sy optredes en uitsprake nie, as ministers nie die verantwoordelikheid wil aanvaar vir ‘n land wat deur hulle optrede in chaos gedom-
pel is nie, as dieselfde regering deel is van die bedrog en diefstal wat hoogty vier in die land, hoe kan verwag word dat mnr. Belofte en sy drywers verantwoordelikheid sal aanvaar om water aan die inwoners van Louis Trichardt te voorsien? Nommer 1 stel dan die voorbeeld! Werksetiek, verantwoordbaarheid en verantwoordelikheid bestaan grootliks glad nie, vanaf die land se Nommer 1 tot by die munisipaliteite se laagste besoldigde werker. Dit is ‘n jammerlike gesig om te sien hoe Louis Trichardt, wat eens ‘n Bosveld juweel was, besig is om stadig maar seker inmekaar te stort. Vir die wat nog teen die prikkels skop en die stange wil vasbyt, aanvaar maar gerus die nuwe naam MAKHADO, dit pas perfek by die prentjie wat besig is om te ontvou, en die kool is beslis nie meer die sous werd nie. Die dorp is beslis nie meer die voortrekker naam LOUIS TRICHARDT werd nie. Dit wat nou gebeur is slegs ‘n belediging aan sy nalatenskap en ‘n minagting van die Afrikaner se geskiedenis en sy aandeel in die dorp en omgewing. Kyk om jou wat gebeur, luister na wat gesê word, (die onlangse uitspraak was gewees: ‘as jy nie tevrede is nie vat jou goed en loop’) en besluit dan wat om te doen. Ek skaam my vir die plek. I am saying goodbye to dear friends
O
n 29 March, I went to the last Rotary lunch at the Soutpansberg Golf Club. After 13 years, it was sad and happy. I am leaving Louis Trichardt and one of the things I find hard to do, is leaving Rotary. This meal, was always the high point of the year, and I knew that I would not be attending it again. I have had the privilege of hearing many musical performances, but never anything like this Sunday.
Grant and Bernice, ministers of the Agape church, gave duet performances that touched every heart. Those two young people are most certainly qualified to do the work they do, but also to bring joy to those who listen to their magnificent voices. Make sure the trees are protected Residents should take note of the recently published list of protected tree species under the National Forest Act (Act 84 of 1998). The list of 47 trees was published by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Petterson, in the Government Gazette (No 37941) of 29 August last year. In terms of Section 15(1) of the National Forest Act, no person may cut, disrupt, damage or destroy any protected tree or possess, collect, remove, transport, export, purchase, sell, donate or in any other manner acquire or dispose of any protected tree or any forest product derived from a protected tree, except under a licence or exemption granted by the minister. Any contravention of this Act will be regarded as a first-category offence that may result in a person who is found guilty being sentenced to a fine or imprisonment for a period
of up to three years, or to both a fine and imprisonment. it was ‘n doodgewone Dinsdagoggend op die plaas, net nadat die varsheid van die oggend pad gevat het voor die dag se hitte. Daisy sit met haar bril op haar neus voor haar rekenaar in die studeerkamer. Sy is diep onder die indruk van hoeveel werk sy het na Bernard en Plore so ernstig met haar gepraat het. Maar, tipies Daisy, doen sy dinge met oorgawe – deesdae moet Bernard kos maak want Daisy sit tot in die vroeë oggendure en werk. Haar vriendin Kathy het al moed opgegee om met Daisy op die telefoon te gesels; Daisy het nooit tyd nie. “Jy is niks fun meer nie, Daisy!” het sy haar beskuldig en dit is min of meer almal se opinie van die Nuwe, Verantwoordelike Daisy. Dit is dus ‘n hoogs geïrriteerde Daisy wat opstaan en voordeur toe stap toe ‘n kar buite stop. By die deur steek Daisy vas toe sy die kar sien – definitief nie iemand van hier rond nie. Dis ‘n bloedrooi affêre uit die Vyftigerjare, kompleet met vlerkies, two-tone bande en ‘n wit afslaandak. Die kar sleep ‘n karavaan – duidelik doelgemaak om by die kar te pas – rooi met baie chroom en dieselfde two-tone bande. Die vrou wat na haar aangestap kom lyk soos die kar en karavaan – rooi hare, blink oorversie rings wat teen haar nek afslinger en ‘n broekpak waarop ‘n sirkusmeester trots sal wees.
“Miskien is almal reg – ek werk heeltemal te hard. Dis van gisteraand se min slaap wat ek so hallusineer,” dink Daisy hardop en draai om om te gaan koffie maak vir haarself. “Dis baie sleg vir jou, weet jy?” praat die hallusinasie met Daisy en agtervolg haar kombuis toe. “En ek sal ‘n koppie Earl Grey tee vreeslik waardeer, hartjie.” Daisy is redelik seker dat skimme nie Earl Grey drink nie, maar mens weet nooit. Sy vat aan die vrou se skouer net om seker te maak. “Haai, liewe aarde, ek is onbeskof! My naam is Daisy en ek maak met plesier vir jou tee. Wat het jy gesê is so sleg vir ‘n mens?” “Nie vir alle mense nie, hartjie. Vir jóú. Die gewerkery in die aand mors met jou bioritmes. Jy is ‘n naguil wat daarvan hou om deurnag te kuier, nie om voor ‘n rekenaarskerm te sit nie.” Die vreemde vrou haal ‘n silwer sigaretkoker uit haar handsak en stap deur sitkamer toe. Daisy laat val amper die skinkbord. “Wie sou tog oor sulke nuttelose dinge by die vrou geskinder het?” wonder sy. “Pragtige huis wat julle het, Daisy. ‘n Gelukkige huis. Daar is groot harmonie hier. En sulke lieflike kunswerke – dis natuurlik van al julle oorsese reise, nê? “Ek drink ‘n klein bietjie melk in my tee, maar dan moet jy die melk eerste inskink, asseblief. Kyk net die lieflike fyn porseleinkoppie en -piering! Dit was jou ma s’n. Dis goed dat jy dit gebruik, sy het agtergekom dat mens dinge moet geniet terwyl jy dit het.” Die vrou kyk om na Daisy wat haar oopmond
aanstaar. “Ai Daisy, nou is ek weer ongemanierd. Laat ek myself voorstel – ek is Mimi,” sê sy vriendelik en steek ‘n hand met lang rooi naels na Daisy toe uit. “Kom sit hier by my op die bank. Wil jy een van my sigarette rook? Ons het so baie om oor te gesels.” Daisy sit verdwaas en steek ‘n sigaret aan. “Is ons familie, Mimi? Of waar het ons ontmoet? Ek kan glad nie onthou dat ek jou al vantevore gesien het nie – en glo my, ek sou dit onthou het!” “Nee, my liewe Daisy. Ons ken mekaar nie. Of liewers, jy ken my nie, maar ek weet al heelwat van jou.” “Dis die euwel van sulke klein gemeenskappe, nê? Altyd ‘n geskinner...” sug Daisy. “Ook nie jou bure nie, my liewe kind. Ek ken niemand in hierdie omgewing nie. Dis jou ma wat my gestuur het.” Daisy bars uit van die lag. “O, nou weet ek – dis natuurlik Kathy wat jou gestuur het om my te kom verpes. Hoeveel betaal sy jou om my uit my werk uit te kom hou? En waar kruip sy weg – seker in daai rooi karavaan van jou?” Mimi is dodelik ernstig as sy Daisy stip in die oë kyk. “Liewe Daisy, ek weet jy verstaan nie mooi nie. Maar dit is regtig jou ma wat my gestuur het.” “Maar ... maar ... My ma is al vier jaar lank dóód!” (Word vervolg)
Die Weg, die Waarheid en die Lewe
Die eerste Adam: Genesis 2:4-7 & 21-25

ie Here het die hemel en die aarde uit niks geskep. Op die sesde dag kry ons die hoogtepunt van die skepping - die mens. Hierdie mens het Hy Adam genoem. Die mens is geskape om die Here te dien en gemeenskap met Hom te hê. God is die Skepper en die Heerser oor die heelal, maar het Adam aangestel as Sy verteenwoordiger op aarde om te heers oor die skepping. (Gen. 2:27-28). Die Here waarsku Adam dat ongehoorsaamheid tot die dood sal lei. (Vers 17) Maar Adam het van die verbode vrugte geëet. Waarom het Adam van die verbode vrugte geëet terwyl hy geweet het wat God gesê het? Ek ken nie die antwoord nie, maar moontlik het hy na Eva gekyk en geweet sy het reeds van die vrugte geëet en sy lewe nog. Wat die rede ookal is, Adam het van die vrugte geëet en onmiddellik was sy liggaam onderworpe aan die dood en het hy en Eva begin ouer word. Hulle het ook geestelik gesterf toe hulle die vrugte geëet het. Sonde het Adam totaal verdorwe, liggaam, siel en gees, alles. Adam was die verteenwoordiger van die mensdom. Sy opstand teen God het ons opstand teen God geword. Toe Adam sondig, word sy sonde ons sonde. Die Skrif sê: “Daar is nie een wat regverdig is nie, selfs nie een nie.” (Romeine 3:10). Die Skrif praat net van twee mense wat hemel toe is sonder om te sterf Henog en Elia. As Christus nie spoedig kom nie, sal ons almal sterf, tensy ons die laaste Adam ken, die Here Jesus Christus. Two of the solar system’s giant gas planets will be visible, with Jupiter first up, followed by Saturn. The first part of the evening will see the constellation of Orion setting in the west, with the constellation Scorpius rising on the opposite side. “The region between these two constellations is filled with stellar delights, from open and globular clusters of stars and bright nebulae to galaxies and contrasting and colourful double stars,” says Mr Kos Coronaios of the SAC. Road Accident Fund encourages motorists to drive safely this Easter weekend Road accident fatalities and injuries represent an unacceptably high global problem affecting all sectors of society. Drivers, pedestrians and all road users alike run the risk of perishing on the road as a result of irresponsible driving habits such as speeding, use of alcohol, being fatigued, and overtaking when it is not safe to do so.
Hot on the heels of the 2014 festive season’s Meet the #FutureYou youth campaign, the Road Accident Fund (RAF) once again took to the roads on Monday to promote road safety interventions at taxi ranks, petrol stations and via various media platforms with message maps to encourage road users to travel with caution on the roads during Easter. Meet the #FutureYou campaign’s key focus is
to motivate road users travelling to church retreats, who are on vacation or are visiting family, to reach their #FutureYou by arriving safely at their destinations. “Everyone wants to see tomorrow. Everyone wants to progress to the next stage in their lives and live their dreams to the fullest. We want you to live long enough to meet the #FutureYou; stay awake and alive on the road during this Easter period,” aid

The Musina Local Municipality was commend ed for maximizing the use of technology and social media platforms to reach community members. This was during a meeting of the Communicators Forum that took place last Friday. “We cannot run away from the fact that the world is changing. All we have to do is to adapt to the changes, so that we can move in the same direction with our target audience, both young and old. We have an effective Facebook page which is updated three times a week. This enables us to directly interact with our people without setting up formal meetings. All the issues raised on the Facebook page are responded to within the blink of an eye,” said the communications manager of the municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu. Dzebu said one of the commendable innovations of the municipality was the bulk SMS line, which had approximately 2 000 subscribers. “If we have anything that we want people to know – from events to the electricity load-shedding schedule or water supply interruption, to name but a few - we only click the send button and communicate
directly with our people through the SMS line. This system has proved to be very effective as we get positive feedback from people who reside in and outside Musina.” Dzebu added that the municipality also had a functional website which was updated weekly. “We get massive interaction from our clients through the website reply form. This assists us to improve service delivery because we get suggestions, complaints and complimentary messages.” The meeting also served as a platform to review the communication strategy of Musina Local Municipality. “We review our communication strategy annually to make sure that we align with the communication strategies of the district, provincial and national government. The strategy is a very important tool which guides us on all communication-related issues. A communicator without a communication strategy is like a soldier who goes to war without tactics and ammunition.” Municipal stakeholders such as Eskom and De Beers Venetia Mine also did presentations on load shedding and community development initiatives respectively.

This means that not only at Soutpansberg Spar, but also at Louis Trichardt Spar more competitive prices will be offered. Sedert die begin van die CrossFit Open Doors Gimnasium in Louis Trichardt in 2012, het dié sportsoort letterlik van krag tot krag gegaan. Nou kan elke deelnemer sy of haar vermoë toets teen ander deelnemers, wêreldwyd, as deel van die Reebok CrossFit Games. Hierdie spele is een van die strafste van sy soort in die sport, met die doel
om jaarliks die fiksste mens aan te wys. CrossFit se oefeninge is gebaseer op funksionele beweging, hoë intensiteit en ‘n konstante verande ring van oefeninge om spiergeheue te verhoed. Dit is ook hoekom daar weekliks ‘n ander stel oefeninge uitgegee word vir deelnemers aan die spele. Deelnemers moet ‘n voorafbepaalde stel oefeninge doen. Hierdie oefeninge moet oor ‘n naweek gedoen word, voor ‘n kamera en die uitslae ingestuur word aan die organiseerders vir kontrolering. Die afrigter by Open Doors, Felix Malan, neem al jare deel aan die kompetisie en het al by meer as een uitda ging eerste geëindig in sy ouderdomsklas. Wat dié spele uniek maak, is dat as Felix daarin slaag om onder die top 20 van sy kategorie in te kom, hy dan kwalifi seer om in die VSA aan uitdunrondtes te gaan deelneem. Swanepoel takes first place in Swaziland
Stefan “Swanie” Swanepoel (above) from Louis Trichardt showed once again that he remains a force to be reckoned with by claiming his first national win since returning to the sport during the second national round of the Totpak National Off-road Championship. Swanepoel competed in the Swazi Cowboyz 400 on 21 March and set the best time over the gruelling 360km track in the Q1 category. Second place in this category was clinched by André Park from Musina, with defending champion Brian Baragwanath from Polokwane in third place.
