So ‘n swak plek is die plek waar jou gebreke so prominent uitsteek. - Ds. Johan Marais (Louis Trichardt Baptistekerk)

Skakel gerus vir Andries by tel. 082 603 2419 hieroor.

Toe ek uitstap, sien

067 835 0816.

Local journalists show their mettle at FCJ awards Staff reporter

The Vhembe region’s two independent newspapers, the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror, excelled once again at the annual Forum for Community Journalists (FCJ) awards, scooping up some of the top positions in various categories. Anton van Zyl, executive editor of both the Limpopo Mirror and Zoutpansberger, won the prestigious Investigative Reporting category once again for a series of exposés that he wrote for the Limpopo Mirror on the shenanigans at the National Lotteries Commission. This was the third year in a row for Anton to win this category. Dustin Wetdewich from Potchefstroom Herald was second, and Daleen Naudé from Middelburg Observer third. This year’s competition was presented as a vir tual ceremony. Although the organisers did not say how many entries had been received, they mentioned that a record number of journalists and photographers had entered the competition. This is the only competition of its kind in the country where corporateowned and indepen dent newspapers compete against each other. Annually, it lures the very best of community journalism and is a showcase of the talent in the country.

Hierdie week, 25 jaar gelede in die

Zoutpansberger

Hierdie week se wenner is Sonita Alberts. Sonita is ‘n Graad-11 leerling by Hoërskool Louis Trichardt.

‘n jong “lang bruinkop man met oseaanblou oë”.

werksaam was by die hospi taal, het ‘n reeks jong mans gesterf.

... Die volgende oomblik skrik Wagner haar boeglam toe daar ‘n klop aan haar motorvenster is. Tot haar skok was dit De Melker. Stadig het Wagner haar venster begin afdraai ...”

The reason why a limit is placed on the amount of electricity you can generate, is because you are not allowed to push excess electricity back into the grid if you make use of a grid-tie system (running off solar power by day and municipal electricity at night). “All the legal aspects of generating solar power are not yet in place, but this could be completed within the next three to four months,” said Pretorius.

If you like it hot, then you will love this recipe shared by Ann McGaffin. She tells us that an old friend from Holland, who taught her the recipe many years ago, used to be quite heavy handed on the chillies when he prepared it. As a result, his bald head would sweat so profusely that he often ate the meal with a napkin on his head. Who is brave enough for this one?

Mix the Hellman’s mayonnaise with the Maggi seasoning sauce and dress over salad.

The curry chicken is not that hot, but watch out for the chilli spaghetti! You will be glad for the salad too, especially once the bite kicks in, to neutralise the burn. In the end,the combination of all these different flavours gives this recipe its delicious uniqueness. The dish is out of this world, and even better the next day, as the chillies seem to have even more potency then. Ann has been living in Louis Trichardt for approximately 20 years now. She has two grown children – a daughter, and a son who is still studying and apparently suffers from insatiable hunger when he is home. She says that whenever one of their spirits needs to be uplifted, they make this recipe and it cheers them up instantly. Though she enjoys cooking, she will notdescribe herself as being an expert chef. She relies on her own instincts regarding spicing the food she prepares for her family, like most of us do, and says that the biggest compliment anyone can give her is to go for seconds. Ann loves baking, gardening, reading, mind-stimulating games, doing house renovations and carpentry, and says that she is positively at her happiest when she gets the opportunity to extend a helping hand, to cheer someone up or just to make someone’s day.
