“Evil” creature attacks residents of Elim Ms Florah Matombo was rescued by a neighbour.
Tshovela Maluleke escaped and sustained minor injuries.
Frazar Baloyi nearly got killed by the evil ‘beast’. He was hospitalised for nine days.
A beast is on the loose! By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho
An unidentified creature, which reportedly has the shape of a dog, is apparently on the loose in the Elim area and has already attacked more than 25 residents. The creature, which residents believe has evil strength and energy, had attacked and severely injured residents between 23 July and 1 August. People said that when it jumped at a person, it went straight for the throat with a devilish intention to kill. The attacks only took place either in the night or at dawn, when it was dark and quiet. A resident of Phandhlula section at Chavani village, Ms
Florah Matombo (44), described her ordeal and said that she had heard the frantic cries of children in the street and thought one of the voices was her child’s. She rushed out and found children scattering in all directions. “A black, four-legged creature jumped at me and I quickly realised that it was aiming for my throat,” she said. “I fought it off my neck, but it was too strong for me. It severed my fingers and wrist. We continued to fight, though, and I managed to sit on its hip and grabbed it by the throat. Yooo! It got so angry and threw me off.” Fortunately, a man from the

neighbouring yard came to her rescue. The creature attacked the man, however, and scratched his face with its fierce nails. The unidentified creature eventually trotted down the road and disappeared. Matombo described it as having shining white teeth, with monstrously long canines. Afterwards, she went to the local clinic, where she found many other victims of the animal’s attacks. They were all transferred to Elim Hospital. “I am not going to work because of the injuries; my hand is painful,” she said. “And I am still afraid even today. I just think the thing will come

“Arrest all the ritual murderers”, demand angry residents from the Makonde area The scourge of ritual murders, which became a common feature in the Vhembe region and especially in the Makonde area in the early 2000, has come back to haunt communities again. In recent instances, the communities of Tshifudi, Tshaulu, Gaba and Tshidzini have not been spared this abomination. On Monday, thousands of residents, more specifically the youth, took to the streets in protest against alleged ritual murders in their villages. The allegations come in the midst of what residents call the continued killing of community members by organized groups of ritual murderers. The community alleges that at least eight people have either gone missing or been murdered, allegedly at the hands muti killers. Residents cited numerous cases, one of the most striking being that of Mr Alpheus Masindi (71) of Tshaulu, who went missing in 2010 after he went to look for cattle in some nearby bushes but never returned. His herd of cattle was later found, but he was never seen again.
One of the buring cases in the villages is the recent discovery of the dead body of Nelson Netshilaphala, also from Tshaulu, who went missing on 18 July, and his dead body was found dumped in a nearby river two days later. His family and the community did not mince their words to confirm that parts of his body were missing when the body was found. Netshilaphala’s killing led residents to spring into action after accusing the police of not doing anything to catch the killers. On Monday, everything came to a standstill, and mayhem and turmoil reigned supreme when angry villagers blockaded roads with big rocks, trees and burning tyres. The whole day and night the village was a no-go area as youths manned the barricades. Virtually no schooling took place in the area as these youths demanded that suspects implicated in the killings be arrested. Thousands of angry residents and pupils from local schools marched to the police station but could not get a hearing. Late in the afternoon, the police and local traditional leader Chief Bohwana
arrived at the spot where the residents had gathered. Bohwana wanted to address the community, but it was impossible to do so and only the leaders from the villages were taken to the local police station for a meeting. In all the cited cases, residents accuse the police of complicity as they believe some might be involved in the cases, which is allegedly the reason they had not arrested any of the suspects. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident from one of the villages said the police had not made a breakthrough in any of the cases. “We are sick and tired of being killed by faceless killers who use human body parts for personal gain. Many of our relatives and friends have been killed for muti purposes and we will make this place ungovernable if they do not arrest suspects. We want all the killers to be arrested. They are known here in the community, and if they are not arrested, we will take the law into our own hands,” he said. Residents say they would be happy if the entire investigative team at Tshaulu were transferred to other areas. “They are not of help to us and it would be better if they are taken somewhere and not work here where they are known and have vested interests in cases,” said a resident. Tshaulu police spokesperson W/O Tshilidzi Mphoshomali confirmed that the situation was volatile but under control. “We had a meeting with community stakeholders Villages are burning, with burning barricades a common occurrence where they complained during the protest. about cases not being investigated thoroughly. We have reached an agreement that the three cases be handled from cluster level and transferred from Tshaulu. The burning case that is still under investigation is that of an old woman from Gaba who was murdered in March this year.” He added that they had opened another case of the man who went missing and was found dead after two days. “We initially opened an inquest docket, but later changed it to murPolice and community leaders try to calm down the angry residents der after post mortem during the protest. results indicated it was By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho
“Evil” creature attacks residents of Elim (From page 1) On 31 July, at around 04:00, a taxi driver had stopped at a bus stop to collect early commuters. The moment he opened the door, the creature allegedly jumped at him and tore his trousers to pieces. “It left him stark naked, and the man is my relative,” said a resident, who did not want to be named. Local SPCA animal inspector Mr Lawrence Khodobo said that they had received reports about incidents of people being
attacked by a creature that resembled a dog. “We advised them to contact the police when they spot the creature again,” he said. “In the history of our office here in Makhado, we have never had an experience of this nature where a suspected ‘dog’ would bite and injure more than 14 people with such viciousness. However, we are by no means saying that the thing might not be a dog.” Waterval police’s spokesperson, Const Cynthia Ndou, said:
“This is not the police’s case. We can only act on the SPCA’s directive.” The spokesperson for the Department of Health, Macks Lesufi, confirmed that several people were treated at Chavani clinic, following incidents of a creature which had attacked them. “Four people were transferred to Elim Hospital for further medical attention,” he said. “We sent out a team of officials to the area concerned to find out what is actually happening.”
murder. There is also a case of a man who was found floating in a river in July this year.” Mphoshomali said that they were worried about the way people were conducting themselves, saying the hooligan element had taken over the situation, with
looting being the order of the day. “We have received reports of two houses and a tavern being burnt to the ground, while two taverns were broken into and emptied of their contents but not burnt,” he said. Mphoshomali said the two dead people had all their body
parts, but they were awaiting post mortem results in respect of the one found floating in a local river. He said they had not arrested anybody in connection with the violent situation in the area.

Nyundu finally signs with Bidvest Wits The controversial former Black Leopards striker, Roggert Nyundu, finally signed with Bidvest Wits. He rose to prominence last season after scoring 19 goals while on loan to Black Leopards, which immediately ignited widespread interest. He made further headlines when Leopards claimed that they had signed him for three years, while Polokwane City claimed that the player was training with their team . Nyundu said that he wanted to play in the PSL and he accused City of paying him a very meagre salary. He disappeared the previous months from the Leopards’ training camp, but after a few weeks he surfaced again and trained with the team. A fortnight ago, when Leopards played a friendly game against Kaizer Chiefs in Gauteng, Nyundu was not selected to with the team and he went to Wits and tried his luck with them. He spent two weeks training with the Clever Boys and featured in some of their pre-season friendlies. It was reported that Nyundu still has a pending contractual dispute with his previous employer, Polokwane City, who have referred the contract row to their legal department. Mr Tincy Tema, City’s spokesperson, said that they had decided to have Nyundu’s matter dealt with by their legal advisors. “As a club we have now decided not to comment any further on this matter as it is being dealt with by our legal advisors. They are studying
the matter and will advise us further,” said Tema. Bidvest Wits’ coach, Mr Gavin Hunt, confirmed that the player had joined the club and he was happy to have a striker of Nyundu’s calibre. Nyundu confirmed that he signed with Wits and he was happy man. He promises Wits’ supporters that he is going to score many goals for the team.

Some local singers and musicians expressed their dissatisfaction about being excluded from the line-up for the annual Makhado Show. King Mlatiro, who is an established and popular singer from Madombidzha village, said that he had been excluded from the show line-up for five consecutive years. He had once got involved in a bitter war of words with the previous show organisers, after they had reportedly promised to include him in the line-up, but all those were empty promises. “I wrote a letter of grievance to the Makhado Municipality with all the facts stated about my problem some two years ago,” he said. “I thought things would change, but we still continue suffering.” He added that it was unfair to receive such bad treatment from the municipality that collects service rates from locals. “We can’t allow a situation where we are treated like monkeys who come to watch outsiders perform at our own show while we are discriminated against by our very municipality,” he said. “The same artists, who are all outsiders, perform every year … in our own town … in front of our fans,”
he lamented. “I meet a lot of people in town. They would say, ‘King Mlatiro, we are coming to see you perform!’, but each time I have to explain that local artists are not in the line-up.” A hip-hop fanatic and popular producer, Teddy-H, whose real name is Humbulani Rasikhwela, said: “The Makhado Municipality hardly invites us. They use service providers (ones who invite or select artists) who know less or nothing about local talent. Any sane event organiser would contact local radio stations for local artists’ selection, because it is at community radio stations where they know the quality of our music.” An established soundmaker and producer, Ishmael “newBreed” Rammnbwa, had worked with and revived the talent of the veteran Tshivenda traditional guitarist, April Ramufhi. “We make very good music as is evident from thousands of our fans and radio stations who play our music,” said newBreed. “It shocks us to see unknown ‘artists’, individuals from nowhere, perform at annual shows while veterans like Vho-April Ramufhi are sidelined by their own municipality. Our municipality continues to empower artists who have already benefited from their respective municipalities. Go out there in the streets and ask ordinary residents if our talent is not real talent.” A media inquiry was sent to the municipal spokesperson, Louis Bobodi, who promised to look into the matter and get back with comments.

“Mphephu bridge will be finished in time”
De Beers employees were assisted by pupils from the Alldays Combined School to clean the school premises.
Captains from local soccer teams accept the Mandela Day Floating Trophy from De Beers Corporate Affairs Manager Ms Josephine Pieters.
Limpopo Tourism Agency had assured resort visitors and local residents that the Mphephu Resort bridge would be completed on time. This comes after the six workers involved in constructing the bridge had downed tools on 13 July after the contractor failed to address their concerns. Limpopo Tourism Agency's spokesperson Kgatla Ntlhekeng confirmed the worker's strike. He said the “industrial unrest” came as result of minor misunderstandings between the contractor and employees who were communicating with the contractor through Sendedza Civil Association. He said that all misunderstandings were resolved amicably in the evening of that day in a meeting. “The time frame for the project is five months, the site was handed over to the contractor on 19 March 2015,” he said. “It commenced the following day and we expect the practical completion on 20 August 2015. We are confident that the project will be completed by the due date.” Workers had several issues which they needed to present to the Nkululeko Project and Management's operator, Musa Mathebula. But Mathebula had failed to respond to the workers' letter of concerns which was sent to him on May. Then, on the morning of 13 July, all six workers downed tools. They had yet again contacted the construction's supervisor Thilivhali Lebepe, who said that he had made all arrangements for contractor to meet them. But they didn't believe Lebepe, because he had failed before to bring their employer for them. The workers complained about discrepancies between the daily pay rate for the permanent workers and the temporary workers. They expressed dissatisfaction on an unpaid overtime and also felt that the employer must hike some pertage on daily rate. The project's community liaison officer, Mashudu Mashamba, said that the factor contributing to rising concerns was the employer's failure to meet with workers. “I am a community liaison officer but I don't even have the contractor's contacts,” she said. “I don't even think he knows me.” However, according to Lebepe, Mathebula eventually met all six workers at the local headman's place on 13 July. “We attended to all issues which the workers had raised,” Lebepe said. “There was misunderstanding from the side of the workers. We ironed everything out now.” The workers' representative, Joseph Mudau, agreed that Mathebula had eventually come to talk
with them. “It gives our hearts some satisfaction that he came and spoke with us directly,” he said. “Yes, he refused to raise our daily rate from R95 to R110, but after all we are back at work.” Mudau added that all problems which led to half-done and unfulfilled projects at many construction were caused by communication breakdown or failure to regard workers' concern. “Sometime all we need as workers is clear explanation and straight communication,” he said. Meanwhile, Ntlhekeng pointed out that the Limpopo Tourism Agency would like to put it on record that they would not allow anyone to abuse or misuse workers in their name. “We are satisfied with the investigations that we have conducted, however at any given time when the employees feel aggrieved we urge them to utilize the necessary channel to address such,” he said.
The project's community liason officer, Mashudu Mashamba, said that employer's failure to meet workers always create problems.
Activities on the day included the expansion of the school's vegetable garden, ensuring healthy meals for learners. Mandela Day
Playground and garden for Alldays The great Madiba is remembered as a man who loved children and passionately promoted the use of education as a means of changing the world. In keeping with his vision, Venetia Mine focused their Mandela Day efforts on the Alldays Primary School. The event saw more than 150 volunteers take part, made up of employees, senior management and local stakeholders, who established a playground,
expanded the vegetable garden and undertook a major clean-up effort. In addition to the day’s activities, the mine also donated brand new uniforms and school shoes to 43 underprivileged students currently attending the school. Finally, Venetia Mine employees launched the inaugural 67 Minutes for Madiba Soccer Tournament at the school. The competition will be played by local teams each year to commemorate Madiba
and keep his legacy alive. For this purpose, De Beers donated a floating trophy and medals for the winning team. The principal, Ms Nancy Semata, said that they were very grateful to the employees of De Beers for choosing to spend Mandela Day at their school. "They surprised us all with their hard work, passion and energy and their ability to effect such a big change after only one day," she said.

Ailing woman’s life of misery and hardship
The late Elijar Mushiana was described as a brilliant photographer during a remembrance day for him last weekend. “A prolific and versatile media practitioner, Mushiana won more than 20 awards in addition to being crowned the 2012 Sowetan photographer of the year. Conference aims to discourage criminality Government is doing everything possible to break the cycle of crime by making sure that those released from correctional centres do not re-offend. This emerged during a recent ex-offenders conference, hosted by the Department of Correctional Services at St George’s Hotel in Pretoria. The conference saw ex-offenders and parolees from all nine provinces converging in one place. “We want to better understand the challenges faced by the ex-offenders’ community and to mobilise them to play a more positive role in crime prevention and crime combating,” said the deputy minister, Mr Thabang Makwetla. He pointed out that some ex-offenders who gained skills during their incarceration had established businesses and also helped other parolees with jobs and opportunities for personal growth and development. “On the sensitive issue of jobs, government and the private
sector must play a leading role in giving ex-offenders a second chance,” Makwetla said. Makwetla said that ex-offenders were in a meaningful position to strengthen government’s efforts aimed at preventing and combating crime. “I appeal to all offenders in our correctional facilities to use all the time they have to turn their lives around, develop themselves educationally and acquire vocational skills,” he said. “We are now challenging those who were in prison to become South Africa’s social changers.” At the end of the conference, the teams of ex-offenders and private moderators, which included educational experts, had drawn up a resolution paper. Among other things, it was concluded that an ex-offender desk would be established and tasked to create, manage and monitor programmes that would help in preventing crime. An organisational development practitioner, Ms Lungi
Mphuthi, said there was a great need for support of ex-offenders who wanted to combat criminal elements within society. “We have seen many good cases where former inmates are contributors towards government’s efforts for crime prevention and recidivism,” she said. She said many ex-offenders had to deal with the stigma and victimisation after doing time because communities were not educated about such issues. Phumelelo Ngxangane (51) is an ex-offender who was released from prison some 23 years ago and managed to stay clean ever since that time. He is an academic, author and pastor. “There are two types of offenders, those who were designed to work and those who were designed to create work,” he reflected. “Both groups need to find each other and not lessen each others’ struggles.” He said ex-offenders must realise that people get rewarded for solving problems and not creating problems.

Alleged mob justice claims two more lives
The deputy minister of the Department of Correctional Services, Thabang Makwetla, with a group of ex-offenders, who are being trained as motivational speakers.
Two people died and one sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by a mob. Thohoyandou police spokesperson Maj Mashudu Malelo confirmed that Mr Tshifhiwa Sigumela (29) passed away in a local hospital last Sunday afternoon (26 July). He was attacked by a mob the day before his death. Malelo said that Mr Nthanyiseni Makhuvha (38), who is also believed to be a victim of the same mob, was found dead in an open field on Sunday morning. Burn wounds were visible on his body. Another victim of alleged mob violence, Mr Takalani Nemukula (30), is fighting for his life in a hospital. Malelo added that the community allegedly accused the victims of a range of crimes. “The community called us on Saturday to come and arrest suspected criminals. When we arrived, we found that the alleged suspects were lying unconscious. We then took them to hospital. The
following morning, we discovered the body of Makhuvha lying in the street. When we investigated, we discovered that he was also a victim of the same incident.” Malelo also stressed that none of the victims could be linked to any crime besides the accusations made by the community. He said two cases of murder and another one of attempted murder had been opened. No arrest had been made at the time of our going to press. By Elmon Tshikhudo
Big boost for youth of Ha-Mabidi area Chief Nelson Mabidi Mahandana of Ha-Mabidi in the Vuwani area has shown his passion for education and development in his area. Mabidi, a student at the University of Venda, had promised to prioritize education as a tool for development in his area during his installation early this year. True to his word, the young and energetic chief, supported by Chief Netshimbupfe and his inner circle, hosted students and academics from the University of Venda on Friday. They had come at his invitation to empower pupils in his area. “Education is the cornerstone of every development and empowerment in the community. When we took over the reigns here, we took a conscious decision to prioritize education as a weapon of development. We are living in an underdeveloped village and no one will come and develop us if we do not stand up and do something for our community.” He added that they were now targeting the youth and would like to see them developed in all aspects of life and not education only. “What we are doing here today is that we have invited all the youths in the village and roped in experts and students from Univen to come and share with them information on the different fields and careers and also how to lead a productive life free of diseases,” he said. Mabidi further indicated that they still had many projects in the pipeline that would target the youth. Univen’s Dr Catherine Selepe, the director of student affairs, said they heard about the good job that Nkhuliseni Youth Development Project was doing for the rural community of Mabidi. “We fell in love with Chief Nelson Mahandana’s vision of developing his community. To start off, we assisted the youth on how to lead fruitful lives for a better future. Under the theme Graduate Alive, we told them to change their lifestyles, so they do not get ill and die of diseases they could avoid.”

Finally a proper road for Magau residents “Obey the leaders of the country” The residents of Magau village in the Sinthumule area have welcomed the construction of the main road from Madombidzha village to Magau village. The motorists and residents had used a damaged gravel road ful of potholes for many years. The road was always covered in dark, thick dust, so that motorists could hardly see each other when they drove on the road. The local headman, Vho-Daniel Masindi, said that they welcomed the construction of the road and added that it was an indication that the municipality would still render more services to the village. “We know very well that it had taken the mu-
nicipality very long to finally answer us and come to start working on this road,” he said. “But now we appreciate the good work which the contractor is doing. We see workers every day and they are working at a satisfactory pace.” Masindi said that there were instances where some wayward individuals pulled out the poles along the road work which the workers are doing. “We made a public notice and warned all those who were involved in that kind of mischief that they must stop or else perpetrators would be dealt with accordingly,” he said. “They had stopped pulling out the poles – and it's good that they listened
to us. We need progress in our villages, and all those who are anti-progress have no room in this village!” Another Magau resident and motorist, Norman Ramapala, had used the old potholed road for about 20 years. He said the bad state of the road had damaged many cars and worn out the tyres of many cars. “I started using this road before it even had a bridge many years ago,” he said. “Some people could not go to town to work because the road was not good, while others would arrive at work very late as cars had to move very slow for fear of damaging their wheels in the potholes.” Ramapala said that to finally have a proper main road was a true victory for motorists and residents of Magau village. Even pupils had a hard time using this road because the people who ferried them to and from school always complained about bad road. The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Louis Bobodi, said that the project was handed over in April this year. The completion date had been set for March Construction is finally underway on the Magau main road. next year.
“Every person must obey the leaders of the country. There is no power given but from God, and all leaders are allowed by God.” This verse from Romans 13 was quoted by the founder and leader of Thasululo Ministries, Dr Thizwilondi Norah Magalela. This came after Magalela invited the local traditional leader of Makonde village, Chief Edward Ravhura, to visit her church. Magalela also presented mufaro (traditional basket) with nduvho (homage) as part of showing respect to Ravhura.
She said pastors and community members who did not respect their traditional leaders were doomed to fail. “The Bible says we must respect our traditional leaders, because they represent God on earth. Anyone who does not show respect to the traditional leaders does not respect God. This church will continue to forge positive relationships with traditional leaders because it is the basis our growth. The land on which we have built our church also belongs to the local traditional leader. We need to show respect to them, so that God
can also smile back on us.” Ravhura, who was installed last year as regent to the Ravhura throne, said he was impressed by how Magalela respected the powers of traditional leaders. “I encourage other pastors to follow suit because this builds a good working relationship between the religious and traditional leadership. Whoever disregards the authority of the traditional leadership disregards the authority of God. Traditional leaders were created by God and people need to show as much respect to them as possible.”

The man who was arrested with a live pangolin in his possession about a year ago pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. Victor Mulalo Ratombo (37) of Thohoyandou was arrested on 8 October last year after the Makhado Police discovered the pangolin, wrapped in a mealie meal bag, in the back of his vehicle. At the time it was suspected that Ratombo had tried to sell the pangolin, which is a very rare animal, at the taxi rank where he was arrested. Following his arrest, the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) took guardianship of the pangolin and saw to it that it was released in a nature reserve. Apart from the fact that pangolins are extremely rare and a protected species, they are more threatened than rhinos. The value of a pangolin (on the black market) is estimated at around R150 000. A pangolin is also, as far as possible, sold or smuggled alive. In terms of Limpopo conservation laws, the pangolin is listed as a specially protected animal. Ratombo’s defence was that he was not aware of the pangolin’s protected status. During his first court appearance last year, Ratombo said that he

Local councillor at war with EPCSA? Mr Sipho Masuka, a resident of Valdezia near Elim and councillor for Ward 15 (Makhado Municipality), was arrested and detained after an attempt to march and hand over a memorandum of concerns to the leadership of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in South Africa during the church’s 140th anniversary celebrations in Valdezia. Masuka said that on 8 July the Waterval police arrested and detained him on the grounds that he had organised an unlawful march. The police’s spokesperson, Const Cynthia Ndou, said, however, that he had been arrested for violation of a protection order and intimidation. The EPCSA in Valdezia had sought a protection order against Masuka not to tamper with the

Church celebrates birthdays of members The Reformed Church at Muledane outside Thohoyandou hosted the mother of all birthdays a fortnight ago, when more than 40 members, who have their birthdays between January and June came together for a big birthday celebration. To make the celebration a family affair, each of those celebrating brought family and friends to the occasion. The mammoth event was also attended by visitors from the Netherlands, who are on a mission to assist the local community in building a church structure. The local minister, Rev Simon Muhali (58), said that the congregation wanted to do things differently. “We had things that we wanted to achieve as a church and the first was that we wanted to promote unity in the church. We are here because of these people with their relatives; it is very rare to

church’s property, enter the church’s properties or interfere with the church’s activities. Thus, during the church’s anniversary event, Masuka violated the protection order by entering the church’s property. The EPCSA’s representative, Rev Risenga Mathebula, said that the whole land of Valdezia was a farm which belonged to the church. “Masuka had been cutting down bluegum trees and leasing out the property which also houses the Matimu centre (which is just one of our many buildings) to benefit himself,” he said. “He has been using our property for the storage of ANC material, pipeline material and other stuff.” Masuka denied this and said that the Matimu centre belonged to the community, and that it had been opened by former Premier Sello Moloto in 1999. “The church allowed the community to make use of one building, which Masuka is now referring to, for community-upliftment purposes,” Mathebula said. “As the church, we are by no means at war with the community.” Masuka told Limpopo Mirror that the police came and arrested him without a warrant. “I was detained for one night without blankets. The toilet inside the cell didn’t flush,” he said. “I was subjected to a very inhumane situation and I think that was done to defame my name.” Masuka appeared in court the following morning and all charges against him were withdrawn. Const Ndou confirmed Masuka’s arrest and the withdrawal of all charges. “The same style of the Apartheid regime’s unlawful arrest and detention [was used against me],” Masuka said. He said that Valdezia was an agri-village, where many people worked on farms and depended on government grants for survival. “The church holds the title deed for the land,” he said. The aggrieved Masuka believes that the handing over of the memorandum of concerns to the EPCSA by the residents would have helped shed light on the issues of land restitution in Valdezia. “Restoration of the land to the farm dwellers will restore their birthright taken away by colonial theology crafted to determine a Black person’s salvation,” he lamented in his press statement. “The church does not allow people to farm yet it never farmed with anything for the past 140 years.” “The residents of Valdezia will never fail to do agricultural activities with government assistance,” he said. “The main focus should be on the utilization of the farm to benefit the people.” The Makhado Municipality’s spokesperson, Louis Bobodi, confirmed that the municipality had disapproved the application for a march on 10 July. “However, the second application is receiving attention,” he said.

After the formal function, there was plenty to eat and drink and all had plenty time to network with friends, relatives and the visitors from the Netherlands.

Saturday's fixtures are: Mulima FC vs Cllr Sylvia Machete, Cllr Sarah Luduvhungu and organiser. Mr Freddy Mukondeni Ratanang Mashamba displayed the winning trophy.
Professionals, or Sapro as they are known, were unstoppable from the onset. Their strikers, Gundo Ndou and Lavhelesani Mulebo, forced Powerlines to play with their backs against the wall throughout the game. They scored their opening goal in the 19th minute. Gundo Ndou hooked in a loose ball, following a scramble within the box. Powerlines gained momentum towards the end of the first half. Sapro enjoyed their lead until the proceedings for the first half came to an end. Powerlines replaced Muandanyi Netshidzivhani with Nzumbululo Nthangeni Rinae Likhetha of Powerlines protects the ball, in the opening while Theshano Munasi of Sapro tackles him minutes of the last half. from behind.
Powerlines started to play attacking football and found the equalizer in the 59th minute. A defender of Sapro, Rihangwele Munzhelele, handled the ball within the box and it was a clear penalty for Powerlines. Avhavhudzani Mukundwa made no mistake from the white spot. Sapro effected two changes to their starting linenup in the 64th minute. They replaced Gundo Ndou and Rodney Marubini with Gundo Munzhelele and Avhapfani Matamela respectively. Powerlines lost cohesion in the middle of the park after Sapro’s replacements. Theshano Munasi of Sapro was warned with a card for a late tackle on Dakalo Munyai in the 74th minute. Sapro took the lead again in the 76th minute. Matodzi Muvhango scored with a header, following a corner kick that was taken by Lavhelesani Mulebo. Powerlines lost hope after Sapro scored their third goal in the 80th minute. Theshano Munasi scored with a volley from the 25-meter area. Masala Mushezha of Powerlines was given his marching orders for swearing at the referee late in the game.

ADDENDUM TENDER NO. 33 OF 2015 APPOINTMENT OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR FOR THE PERIOD OF THREE YEARS Notice is hereby given that the period for the above mentioned tender has been changed.
Leopards to play first match at home The Premier Soccer League has released the 2015/16 National First Division (NFD) fixtures. The NFD will have four new faces in the new season. The first matches for the new season will be played over the weekend of 22 and 23 August. Mbombela United from Mpumalanga and Mthatha Bucks from the Eastern Cape were promoted from the ABC Motsepe Promotional League, while Moroka Swallows and Amazulu were relegated from the Absa Premiership.
Black Leopards will play their opening match at the Thohoyandou Stadium. They will host the Cape Town side, Milano United. Leopards’ assistant coach, Mr Joel “The Prophet” Masutha, said that their aim was to start the new season on a high note, unlike in the previous two seasons when they gave away points to their opponents in their first five matches. Amazulu will open the new season by hosting Witbank Spurs at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. Amazulu recently tried in vain to purchase Absa
Premiership status from Mpumalanga Black Aces after facing relegation from the Absa Premiership Division last season. Moroka Swallows will fly to Cape Town, where they will meet Cape Town All Stars at the Athlone Stadium. FC Cape Town will meet African Warriors at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town. Royal Eagles will play against Highlandspark at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa, while Mbombela United will take on Thanda Royal Eagles.

Benny’s Care juniors thrash Home Defenders 3-0 In their Limpopo Dairy League match at the Gogobole grounds on Sunday, the junior team of Benny’s Care kept their title hopes alive by beating Gogobole Home Defenders 3-0. Defenders played entertaining football from behind throughout the game, but their strikers fumbled at the goal finish. It took the Defenders nine minutes to realize that it was not their day. Their front runner, Thabelo Tharini, could not live up to his reputation as a natural striker, because he was tightly marked by Gift Khangale. The visitors gained momentum as the game progressed. They were awarded a free kick in the 24th minute. Thokhozani Mzimande was obstructed within the box and the referee, Mr Mpfariseni Musekwa, awarded a free kick. The team’s captain, Papi Mongalo, took it upon himself to take the free kick and hit the back of the net. The goal did not demoralize Defenders as they continued to play like a united team, creating some promising moves from the middle of the park. Benny’s increased the margin in the 39th minute. This after Defenders started to set offside-traps. Killer Maake beat the offside-trap and sent the Defenders keeper, Tshonisani Mulaudzi, the wrong way. The score was 2-0 when the referee blew the half-time whistle.
Benny’s replaced the injured Mulalo Tahulela with Sandani Hulisani. Although Defenders also effected three changes to their starting line-up late in the game, that was not good
enough to stop Benny’s from scoring their third goal. A substitute, Vonani Macheke, scored the third with a header, following a corner kick that was taken by Hlaula Maringa.

“Success goes hand in hand with planning” - Malombo “You can be a star today and can be written off the following day. Education will never forsake you and you can bank on it,” said Mamelodi Sundowns’ talent scout, Jan “Malombo” Lechaba. Lechaba was visiting the Safa Vhembe MMK Administrators League play-off matches a fortnight ago. When addressing soccer players during the event, he said soccer success did not necessarily start on
the field. “Success goes hand in hand with planning. You must set achievable goals for yourselves and you will then reap what you have sown. Staying in a deep rural area does not have any negative impact because we have great soccer players and administrators who come from rural areas who are presently ambassadors of our country.” He added that children who were in-
volved in sport tended to perform well in school, “and we will have better results in the long run. I wanted to share my experiences with young sportspeople who still have the chance to make it big,” said Lechaba. He said most youths regarded stars as role models, irrespective of whether they were educated or not. He said some even left school, trying to crack it in sport. “Yes, you can crack it and make it, basking in the limelight, but this could be short-lived as you could be injured or be out of form and coaches dump you,” he said. “You should be prepared for the unknown. Put your education first and you will succeed.” He emphasised that there is a lot of talent in Limpopo.
More than 3 000 spectators attended the Musangwe Tournament at Makhado show grounds on Saturday. Mr Phineus Mulaudi, the CEO of Masana Skills Development, the sponsor of the event, said that they were preserving the Venda culture and they felt bound to lend a helping hand to the sport as it formed part of the Venda culture. Total Capricorn N1 to sponsor again The managing director of the Total Capricorn N1, Mr Neels Kruger, said he was happy about the performance of the pupils during the school soccer tournament at Eltivillas last Friday. He stated that they would continue to sponsor school sports and that it formed part of their mission. “It is our obligation to ensure that the society in which we are living is healthy and sponsoring participating in sport is a step in the right direction.” He
said that the aim of his company in funding sport was to develop rural young people, keep the youth off the streets and prevent them from abusing alcohol. Mr Steven Singo from the Murunwa Private School praised Total Capricorn N1 for their involvement in school football. “I’m very proud that we have grown young people of real quality,” he said. He stated that he was convinced that the sponsorship would produce stars who would receive international
recognition. “Despite the difficult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared to share their takings and support development.” The champions, Murunwa Private School, went home with R1 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The runners-up, Ridgeway College, collected R500 and silver medals, while the third position went to Makhado Com- Photographed during the prize-giving ceremony are, from left to right, Messrs Samuel Hlungwane, prehensive, who went home with M Rambuda, Delver Mathelemusa (captain of Murunnwa), Neels Kruger (sponsor) and Phillimon R200 and bronze medals. Stars out of Mulindavhathu Khubvi African Stars will not take part in the quarterfinal stage of the Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge. This follows their 1-4 defeat at the hands of MT Green Mambas in their final round-robin match at the Khubvi Tshiseluselu grounds on Sunday. Mambas meant business from the onset, with their strikers giving the Stars’ defence no time to breathe. Mambas broke the deadlock in the 14th minute. Zwivhuya Sikhwari received a beautiful pass from Thomas Matodzi and blasted in a rocket from the edge of the box. The goal was a wake-up call to the players of
African Stars. They started to initiate some promising moves from behind, but it was only for some moments as their stamina faded with time. Mambas continued to play collectively, creating some dangerous moves as they crossed the halfway mark. That forced African Stars to abandon their positions and play defensive football. They were severely punished for that. Green Mambas increased the margin in the 27th minute. Russel Munyai broke loose from the right corner and beat the keeper with a half volley. Stars’ solitary goal came in the 37th minute.
Ofhani Mudau found the net with a ground cutter after a scramble within the box. Green Mambas were leading 2-1 at the end of the first half. Mambas frustrated Stars with their dribbling skills and consequently Stars chased the action for the better part of the last half. They increased the margin via Israel Mukununde in the 64th minute. Mukununde received a neat pass from Itani Sikhipha inside the box and sent the keeper the wrong way. Israel Mukununde was on target again in the 86th minute with a ground cutter to bring the final score to 4-1.
