Sta  News Assistant Chief Librarian attended IATUL Leadership Academy Workshop The IATUL Leadership Academy Workshop 2014 organised by the International Association of Technological University Libraries was held at Mercure Krabi Devana Hotel, Thailand, from 10 to 11 February 2014. It was attended by thirteen library managers from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Haji Awang Mohd Yussop bin POKIDDP Haji Musa, Assistant Chief Librarian of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The workshop was facilitated by Professor Dr Claudia Peus and Reiner Kallenborn from Technological University of Munich, and Mr Choy Fatt Cheong, from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The workshops facilitators presented concepts and best practices of transformational leadership which encompasses several key components such as inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, and idealized influence or charisma. The transformational leaderships components were proven to facilitate and stimulate extraordinary levels of performance in changing environments and helps creates and maintains positive work related attitudes by staff at all levels of an organisation. During the workshop group discussion and presentations the participants were able to develop insights on strategies and approaches that are likely to be successful in their own environment. The participants were tasked to create their personal action plan for their respective organisations.

Discussion with SOASCIS A discussion was made between UBD Library Staffs and SOASCIS lecturers and Postgraduate Students on 8th March 2014 at rm 1.27, Blok Dinamik, UBD Library. The objective of the discussion is for staff and graduate students in SOASCIS to get more knowledge and information on their research and proposals especially on publications or journals from various areas. Several issues of concern were raised during the discussion. 20 books were donated to the Library by Yang Mulia Prof Datuk Dr Osman bin Bakar and Yang Mulia Professor Dr Mulyadhi Kartanegara. UBD Library would like to thank both Prof Datuk Dr Osman bin Bakar and Professor Dr Mulyadhi Kartanegara for their kindness. Books donated will be catalogued, added into our collection and users will be able to borrow those useful books soon.
UBD Library strongly encourages and welcomes the participation of Faculties to collaborate with the Library to build up comprehensive collection and increase the quality of teaching, learning, research, as well as library and information services.

Tahlil and Appreciation Ceremony A Tahlil and Appreciation Ceremony was organised on 6th March 2014 in UBD Library. This Tahlil ceremony is commonly held as a remembrance for the late staffs of UBD Library and also late family members of UBD Library始s staff where prayers are offered to invoke blessings from Allah (SWT). The Appreciation Ceremony was made especially for 6 officers and staffs who have moved to other departments for promotion and who have ended their services with the government. Those are: 1. Ya Alenawati binti Haji Yusuf transferred to Ministry of Education 2. Mohamad bin Yusof transferred to National Archive of Brunei Darussalam 3. Siti Nadiah Azirah binti Hj Labab transferred to Radio Television Brunei 4. Siti Nur Maziyyah binti Jini transferred to Radio Television Brunei 5. Awang Daud bin Haji Samad -retired 6. Pg Sallehuddin bin Pg Hj Mohd Yusuf -retired As a token of appreciation for the service rendered, they were each awarded with UBD Library plaques symbolizing gratitude for their dedication and commitment over the years.

Muzakarah  2014 First Muzakarah 2014 was held on 15 January 2014, Wednesday at Bilik Akik, 1.26, 1st Floor, Library. The purpose of the Muzakarah was to discuss on staff issues and share information on library developments and achievements. A 'doa' was recited by Haji Abdullah bin Haji Tahir, Coordinator of Special Collection. Dr. Haji Awang Suhaimi bin Haji Abdul Karim, Chief Librarian made a welcome remark, discussed staff issues and library services. This was followed by briefing by Head of Divisions.
UBD Annual Dinner 2013 - 2014 The UBD Annual Dinner 2013-2014 was held on the 5th March 2014 at Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, Jerudong. The main highlights for the evening were the announcement of staff excellent awards, prize presentations for winners of UBD Sports Event and the lucky draw prizes. There was also an exciting performances by Brunei local artists and UBD staff. Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Corporate and Administration) presented a trophy to Noraidah binti Haji Abdul Latif, library staff for winning the 2nd place for Best Individual (Female) in UBD Staff Open Tenpin Bowling Tournament 2014. The event was attended by officers and staff of the library.

Discussion with Dr Fuad Hadad Ibrahim from SOASCIS A sharing session was hosted between several library staffs and Prof Dr Haddad Ibrahim on 13 March 2014 at Bilik Akik, Room 1.26. In this session, Prof Dr Haddad shared access to his Islamic Digital Collection, useful Islamic information portals and websites.

Working/ Educa6onal Visits 16th Executive Development Programme Middle Management Officers A number of twenty nine senior officers from various government departments, participating in the eight week programme organised by the Institute of Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), UBD and the Public Service Department (JPA) have visited the University Library on 04th March 2014. A Liibrary Briefing was held at Bilik Akik, 1.26, 1st floor, Library. Haji Awang Mohd Yussop bin POKIDDP Haji Awang Musa, Assistant Chief Librarian welcomed the senior officers and a Library Briefing was conducted by Dk Noraini binti Pg Haji Idris, Head of Promotion. The briefing consists of introduction to the UBD Library, highlights on services, facilities, collections and also membership. The group was later brought for tour to the new Business Library and also the Main Library. The officers also signed the visitor's book before they ended their visit.

Visit by Universiti Teknologi MARA and Terengganu State Library About 26 librarians, lecturers and administrators from UiTM and Terangganu State Library visited UBD Library on 26th February 2014. The working visit was part of the professional educational training to discuss the possibilities of establishing academic collaborations with UBD in the aspects of research opportunities, staff exchange programme, smart partnership in industrial training, joint conference, workshop, etc. Representatives from FASS, HEP, MTSSR and Brunei Polytechnic also attended the discussion.

Visit by Jerudong International School About fifteen upper six students with two teachers from Jerudong International School visited the university library on Wednesday, 15 January 2013. The purpose of their visit is to familiarise with the university library for their studies especially the upper six students who require extended materials use for research purposes and also a part of their move towards becoming university students in the future. Hajah Norleha binti Haji Mat Yassin, Head of Administration & Promotion made a welcome remark. She briefed and led the visitors for a quick tour in the library. At the end of the visit, they took a group photo.

CAB Direct Database Training was held on the 25 February 2014, Tuesday at Bilik Intan, Room No. 2.15, Level 2, Library. The facilitator was Ms. Lina Yip, Regional Sales Manager, CABI (Malaysia). CAB Direct is the most thorough and extensive source of references for the Applied Life Sciences. It incorporates two bibliographic databases: CAB Abstracts and Global Health. Beside over 10 million bibliographic records, UBD Library has full access to all 230,000 plus full text articles from 774 journals and over 800 proceedings. It also includes noteworthy literature reviews, news articles and reports.

User Education Training for Biology Student User Education Training for Biology Student was held on Wednesday, 25 January 2014. This was organised with the cooperation from Dr. Kushan Tennakoon. The training was attended by 34 students in session 1 and 39 students in Session 2. The facilitator for the first session was Dyg Merhane binti Md Salleh, Senior Librarian and the second facilitator was Awg Haji Abdullah bin Haji Tahir, Senior Librarian. The training was held at Bilik Intan, 2nd Floor, Main Building, Library.

New Collec6ons Newly Acquired Ebooks Collection UBD Library has purchased IG Publishing and Cambridge Books Online (Archive Collections 2009 – 2013) early this year IG Publishing A total of 2,398 ebook titles from IG Publishing - University Presses. Out of 11 Universities’ Publications, the library has selected only 3 Universities’ Publications as follows: Columbia University Press contains 1767 titles and publishes approximately 160 new titles every year. Subject coverage include Asian studies and literature, biological sciences, business, culinary history, current affairs, economics, environmental sciences, film and media studies, finance, history, international affairs, literary studies, Middle Eastern studies, New York City history, philosophy, neuroscience, paleontology, political theory, religion, and social work. Edinburgh University Press contains 425 titles. As the premier scholarly publisher of academic books and journals in Scotland and one of the leading university presses in the UK, the main subject areas covered are African Studies, American Studies, Classics, Critical Editions, Film & Media Studies, Historical Studies, Islamic Studies, Language & Linguistics, Law, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Reference, Religion, Science and Medical and Scottish Studies. Manchester University Press contains 206 titles, publishing work by authors from all over the world. As the third largest University Press in the U.K, it also publishes textbooks for use by academics, teaching in higher education. Key subject areas are Art and Design, Cultural Studies, Economics, Film, TV and Media, History, International Law, Languages, Literature, Politics and Sociology

Cambridge Books Online Cambridge University Press is one of the largest and most prestigious academic publishers in the world. They are widely respected as a world leader in publishing for multidisciplinary subjects, with appeal for instructors and researchers in all subject areas. Instructors are able to incorporate almost half a century of knowledge into fast moving teaching & learning techniques, helping to create interesting lessons, build course-packs and inspire students through the intuitive interface. Researchers are able to enhance their studies through access to material previously unavailable online, including the Cambridge Library Collection and Cambridge Archive Editions, create personal libraries from easy to find and store material and easily cross reference and link their research. UBD Library purchased Cambridge Archive Medium Collection for 2009 – 2013 year coverage with a total of 2,175 titles of Ebooks. The subjects are Biological Science, Education, English Lang Teaching, General, History, Humanities, Art, Music, Film, Classic Studies, Literature, Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Religion, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences. Earlier in 2012, UBD Library purchased Cambridge Universiti Press Ebooks for Computer Science containing 61 titles, Management containing 47 titles and Psychology containing 60 titles. We encouraged staffs and students to make use our newly acquired Ebooks collections.
