Carers Centre Newsletter April 2016

Carers Centre Newsletter Important news about the future of One Community Carers Centre from Chair of Trustees Sri Kandiah and Chief Executive Jean Roberts-Jones

Dear All

IN THIS ISSUE: Page 1 Carers Centre Future Page 2 /3 News Page 4 Groups Page 5/6 Events, Diary Dates & Cream Tea Scam alert Hampshire County Council Trading Standards would like to remind residents to be cautious when receiving emails from unknown sources. Recent reports suggest that emails have been sent to residents demanding payment of around £800 for services carried out. However, the company has not carried out any work. It appears that the company name has been used fraudulently.

For the last few years the Carers Centre has been well funded, achieving an unprecedented second award of three years funding from Big Lottery. That funding will come to an end in July and despite the best efforts of the team in a difficult financial climate a future source of funding has not been secured. Contingency plans have had to be made. The Board of Trustees met last week and reached a decision to provide interim funding from One Community's reserves for a reduced and very focused service, which will include some resource dedicated to researching future prospects should funding not be secured before August. The emphasis of the new service will be on support to carers, primarily through our emotional support scheme, and signposting to appropriate help and information. It is with great sadness that we face the risk of the loss of jobs in the Carers Centre and the reduction in service to carers. With this contingency plan we hope to mitigate against the worst effects and do our best to sustain this invaluable service into the future. If you have any concerns, comments or suggestions please do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards Jean Roberts-Jones Chief Executive One Community Direct dial: 023 8090 2440
