One Community AGM We had an excellent attendance at our AGM on Tuesday 22 September in the vast space of the Kingfisher Hall at Pavilion on the Park, Eastleigh. It was good to welcome so many members, staff and volunteers. In addition to the usual business of the meeting, where trustees were re-elected, our accounts presented and our Impact Report was published, Senior Operations Manager Paul Rollison gave us a sneak preview of the new One Community website, which is coming soon! First Presentation of the Bobbie Jones Award The first Bobbie Jones Award for Carers has been presented by One Community to Carol Barfoot of Eastleigh’s Carers Action Network. It is hard to imagine anyone who has contributed as much as Carol Barfoot to the cause of Carers in Eastleigh. When the Carers Act was passed in 2004, a carers' consultation group was formed in the borough. This later became Carers Action Network (CAN), a group which came together to challenge health, social and educational services to ensure that the Act was implemented and that carers' views were made known. Carol was at the heart of this campaign, and it was out of this work – so dear to her heart as a carer for her son – that One Community Carers Centre was established. Carol has continued in her unstinting work as an advocate, supporter and mentor to carers through her work with CAN and her ongoing support to One Community’s Carers Centre. The award was established by One Community in memory of Bobbie Jones, a long time trustee of the charity, who died last year and is greatly missed. It was presented to Carol Barfoot at One Community’s AGM at Pavilion on the Park, Eastleigh on Tuesday 22 September. Bobbie’s son Mark Jones was present and the presentation was made by Bobbie’s granddaughter Ellie.
