On Sunday 2 October Dawn Elson, Community Development Manager at Test Valley Community Services (TVCS), realised a lifelong dream as she completed a tandem sky dive over the Hampshire countryside. Along with fellow volunteer Ruth Williams, she made the jump to raise funds to sponsor a new annual TVCS Volunteer of the Year award. The aim of the award is to recognise and reward a team of volunteers who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in their community. A delighted Dawn commented, “The funds raised by our jump will help TVCS to continue to support and inspire people to try volunteering. I have been lucky enough to experience the benefits of volunteering and I hope to be able to encourage more people to give it a go.” Firmly attached to an Army sky dive instructor, Dawn jumped from the plane at 13,500ft and began racing to the earth at 120mph until the canopy was deployed at 5,000ft. Approximately four minutes later the ecstatic duo landed safely on the ground at Netheravon Airfield. So far they have raised nearly £300.
