One Community provides a range of Voluntary Sector Support, Community Development, Care, Information and Transport services

One Community’s headquarters stands overlooking the Recreation Ground and bandstand in central Eastleigh, just a few minutes’ walk from the railway and bus stations. The building has a small forecourt car park, and pay-and-display parking is available diagonally opposite, to the rear of Sainsbury’s, accessed from Romsey Road.

The Volunteers

Eastleigh Visiting Scheme

All the scheme’s visitors are volunteers who enjoy meeting people and having a chat. They are recruited to the Visiting Scheme and trained, following a satisfactory interview, personal references and a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

What we can do • Trained volunteers can visit you in your home by mutually agreed appointment.

• They can stay with you for up to two hours.

• They will chat informally and discuss any issues of concern you may have.

• They will come to your home for up to eight visits, after which time there will be a review.

• The service is completely free of charge to you. We reimburse the volunteer visitors for their travelling expenses.

What we can’t do

• The volunteers cannot take you out anywhere or drive you in their cars.

• They cannot help with personal care.

• They cannot do housework or other jobs around the house or in the garden.

Who is the Visiting Scheme for?

Many people in the borough of Eastleigh live on their own and there may be times when they feel the need for a volunteer visitor to come and chat with them. It may be as the result of a:

• bereavement • stay in hospital • change in circumstances • spell of depression • house move The reasons may vary, but the opportunity to chat with someone can often help to overcome the problems of the moment and enable people to get their lives in order again.

Could you be a volunteer?

Accessing the Visiting Scheme If you feel you would like a volunteer to visit, just contact your local surgery, church, Adult Services or other local organisation and show them this leaflet.

They can then get in touch with us.

Could you spare a couple of hours a week to visit an older or isolated person, who is not perhaps able to get out and about?

Training, supervision and support is provided and expenses are paid. References are taken up on volunteers and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks are undertaken.

Volunteers are matched with a client for an initial eightvisit period, so the commitment is not unending.
