Canine Partners Support Group Volunteer Join one of Canine Partners local support groups; working together to raise the profile of Canine Partners and increase much needed funds to train more puppies and develop more valuable people/puppy partnerships. Could you assist a group of like-minded people to run a coffee morning, dinner or quiz night, walks or something similar? Maybe you could represent Canine Partners at events or shows?

The organisation is looking for someone who likes dogs, is flexible and good with people.

Barnardo’s Parenting Group Support Hampshire Specialist Parenting Support Service is a new service to support parents and carers who have a child with a diagnosis of ADHD, a diagnosis of Autism, challenging behaviour suggestive of a conduct disorder, or are teenagers displaying anti-social behaviour. The service delivers a selection of evidence-based parenting programmes to groups of up to 12 parents at a range of venues across Hampshire. The aim of the service is to help parents and carers understand the emotions and feelings that drive their child’s behaviour and to develop positive strategies to help them manage their child’s emotions and behaviour. HSPSS is looking for volunteers to help the team to deliver parenting groups in community settings. The work can be challenging but is also very enjoyable, making a real difference to the lives of children and families.

HSPSS is looking for volunteers who are able to:  Support practitioners to prepare group resources  Assist with setting up for group delivery  Meet and greet arrivals and get the Support some of the group work activities  Provide emotional support to parents as required  Once trained, co-facilitate some of the parenting delivery Ideally you will have attended one of HSPSS courses OR have experience of delivering evidence based parenting programmes OR be a social work student. If you don’t have this experience we can arrange for you to shadow someone and attend a course to gain that insight.

Volunteers should:  Have a non-judgmental/flexible attitude alongside good listening skills  Be sensitive to others’ needs and emotions and be able to demonstrate empathy  Have the ability to share skills, interests or activities with people  Be prepared to attend on-going training and supervision You will need to commit to a minimum of one 3Volunteering Matters Page 2

hour session a week, with some opportunities for evenings. Session times will be 9am-12noon, or 12 -3pm, or 6-9pm. You will receive a full induction into the work of the HSPSS service, mandatory Volunteer Training (including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Professional Boundaries), regular supervision and support from a named Parenting Support Worker, as agreed with you.

Advocate – MAGI Project for those who have offended Come and be part of the MAGI (Mentoring, Advocacy, Guidance & Information) Team; learn new skills and make a difference to the life of a vulnerable person and your local society. You will offer free, non-judgemental and independent support in many areas including housing, employment, debt, accessing services, rights and benefits. Full training and support will be provided. The project is funded by the OPCC to reduce re-offending in the Portsmouth and Southampton areas. There are many reasons that people commit crime including living a chaotic lifestyle, being short of money, family relationship issues and breakdown, housing issues including homelessness etc. The project supports individuals with their health, social and personal issues; reducing the chaos in their lives and so the likelihood of re-offending is reduced.

Expenses will be paid eg travel, parking and refreshments, if appropriate. Full training, support and supervision will be available. Volunteers need to be over 18 and preferably have their own transport. This role, which is subject to a DBS check, will suit someone who is motivated in supporting someone change their life, empathetic, good at listening, resourceful, flexible, supportive and dependable.

Become an Advocate with SCA and Give a Voice to Vulnerable People Volunteers are needed to give a voice to those who are unable to make themselves heard. To support vulnerable people with issues that affect their everyday lives, including family and relationships, debt, housing, employment, benefits, child protection, adult protection, rights,

access to services, disputes and appeals, amongst others. Volunteers need to be available to meet clients in either Southampton, Portsmouth or Bournemouth.

SCA’s work focuses on supporting those without capacity or limited capacity eg people with learning disabilities, dementia etc, and also those leaving custody. Training will be provided and expenses paid.

Volunteers for Titchfield Festival Theatre Volunteers are always welcome to work within the Titchfield Festival Theatre Team. You can work alongside fellow volunteers in set design, costumes, front of house, theatre care and audience/ customer service. Volunteers need to be over 16 and have good people skills and enthusiasm for theatre life.

Bar & Refreshment Volunteers—to prepare the bar area prior to performances, take orders, make drinks and serve during the interval and after the performance. You will also need to maintain a clean bar area at all times, take money and provide change. You need to be confident enough to check IDs and be able to stand and carry trays. (There is some lifting involved.)

SNAP Disco Volunteers SNAP disco events are run three times a year on a Friday evening in Fareham for up to 800 young people, aged between 11 and 16. Volunteers are vital to the continued success of SNAP and are asked to assist with the general running of the event, ensuring that all the young people have an enjoyable time and leave safely. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and will need a DBS check, which will be undertaken by Fareham Borough Council.

Play Worker Volunteer for SDAS Southern Domestic Abuse Service is looking for a play worker volunteer for a refuge situation.

Someone who enjoys playing with children, who has patience and is creative and flexible. You'll need a good sense of humour and the ability to listen.

You'll need to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Safeguarding procedures.

Trustee for Citizens Advice Fareham Citizens Advice Fareham is looking for someone who has the time and enthusiasm to become an active trustee. An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship together with some previous experience in Charities, the Public Sector or Industry, working in a team environment would be an advantage.

Hours can be as you feel able to contribute in order to lead on the above and there are a minimum of four Trustee meetings each year held on weekday evenings, together with subcommittee meetings as necessary. Additional training is also available.

Safe and Well Advisor – Hampshire Fire and Rescue Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for volunteers to carry out Home Safety Visits on their behalf, and to participate in local safety promotion initiatives and activities to generate Safe and Well Visits. The role involves visiting households as requested by the Service to conduct Safe and Well Visits with the occupier, to include identifying fire hazards and inspecting/fitting smoke alarms if required. You will liaise regularly with the nominated person to receive details of visits to be carried out, and complete the relevant paperwork and return it to the Service in the agreed timeframe.

Safe and Well Advisors also participate in local safety promotion initiatives and safety events, and activities to generate Safe and Well visits.

Practical skills required include the use of drills, stepladders and small tools; and the ability to complete the required paperwork to record the visit and actions taken. Volunteers need to be reliable, responsible and trustworthy, with good written and verbal communication skills and a friendly, confident and approachable manner. Volunteers should also have a willingness to work as part of a team and abide by specified procedures and processes. Preferably, volunteers should hold a full current driving licence.

You will receive full training to undertake this role effectively.

You will also receive a full induction into the Service to help you understand your role, as well as regular feedback and support. You will need to be able to commit to an average of four hours a week in one session. Previously agreed travel and out of pocket expenses with be reimbursed. Suitable clothing and identification will be provided to enable you to undertake your role.

One Community Visiting Scheme Loneliness and social isolation is a huge problem among older people and others who find it difficult to get out and about. One Community has set up a visiting scheme running across the borough of Fareham to address that need. The scheme which provides companionship to older and physically disabled people across the borough of Fareham is looking for friendly people who can commit to eight visits at a time. All that is asked of the volunteers is to visit a client at home for an hour or two, simply to chat to someone who finds it difficult to get out of the house. Being a volunteer visitor is a very flexible role, with visits arranged at the mutual convenience of the volunteer and client. As volunteers only commit to eight visits at a time, it is a role that will fit around any other commitments you may have. Training is given and full support and supervision is provided, with mileage expenses paid at 45p per mile.
