Trustees for Abbeyfield Fareham
The Abbeyfield Fareham Society is a charity that provides home from home accommodation for active older people on a non-profit basis. The welfare and needs of the buildings and residents of Abbeyfield are looked after by three groups of people: Executive Committee of Trustees: This group of volunteers has overall responsibility for the management of the Society and its assets, and for the welfare of the residents. House staff: A team of employed staff looks after the day to day running of the houses and the needs of the residents. This team includes a live-in Housekeeper in each house, an Administrator, Deputy/Relief Housekeepers (when required), Cleaners and Gardeners. House Committee: This second group of volunteers works to provide additional creature comforts, entertainment and outings for the residents. Abbeyfield is looking for professional local residents, who would like to use their knowledge and experience to support the running of this valuable charity as a member of the Executive Committee of Trustees.
Trustees for Solent Diabetes Association The Solent Diabetes Association supports people with diabetes living in the area, with money raised from two charity shops in Fareham and Gosport. The charity funds local diabetes research projects and provides holidays for people with diabetes. The charity is in need of new trustees as members of the board are stepping down. Charity trustees are the people who share ultimate responsibility for governing a charity and directing how it is managed and run. If you have skills to share, perhaps from your own field or profession, we would love to hear from you.

St Mary’s Church Portchester Tea Room Volunteers Volunteers are needed at St Mary’s Church Portchester to work in a team serving hot/cold drinks, cakes, scones, teacakes and making up light lunches. The volunteers’ role is also to be a listening ear to provide pastoral support to customers if required. Winter hours are 11am to 3pm, but volunteers should be available a little before and after these times and in the summer 10.30am to 4pm. The Teashop is open six days a week volunteers are needed particularly on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. St Mary’s is looking for somebody who can commit to a particular day and be reliable. Good mental arithmetic would be helpful as they do not have a till.
Voluntary Care Group Stubbington & Hill Head Help with transport - If you live in Stubbington or Hill Head, you might like to join the Voluntary Care Group as a volunteer driver. The group’s clients are mostly older people who have problems with shopping, getting to local surgeries and clinics or to hospital appointments, and back to their homes. Sometimes younger people need help too if they can't drive for medical reasons. You can choose to offer an hour or two on a regular day or varying days, each week or less often, depending on what suits you. Befriending - In Stubbington & Hill Head the Voluntary Care Group visits people who are isolated, lonely and in most cases housebound. Volunteers can change someone’s life simply by being there and listening. Volunteers usually visit once a week, and can visit for many months or even years. Referrals for this valuable service are on the increase so more volunteer are needed. The Group is looking for people with just a few hours to spare a week. You will need good people skills, especially listening and talking with ease, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Part-Time Secretariat for Volunteer-Led Environmental Organisation
Hampshire Healthy Families Community Volunteer
Environmental Protection UK is a well-respected, charity organisation that has been working to protect the environment we all live in for over 120 years. This role should take four to six days a month, on average. Most aspects of the role can be carried out virtually so you would be based from home. The role would include being the main point of contact for post, telephone and emails, maintaining a membership list, helping to organise seminars across England, helping with communications (including social media) and arranging the AGM, trustee and sub-committee meetings. You would liaise closely with another person who looks after the financial/legal aspects as well as the chairs of the policy committees of volunteers.
Barnardo’s works with Health Visiting Teams across eight areas in Hampshire. Each area runs a variety of community based programmes, led by a Barnardo’s Community Health Development Worker (CHDW), who is supported by a cohort of volunteers. They have different opportunities available within the ‘Hampshire Healthy Families Community Volunteer’ role:
Independent Visitor - Children's Services Young people may have a range of professionals working with them. However, it is recognised that having someone impartial to talk to and offer support can make a difference to self-esteem and engagement. The Independent Visitor Volunteer Scheme is a statutory service for children who are “looked after” by the local authority. It is for those children who would benefit from having an independent adult in their life. This scheme is voluntary for the young person, which means that they can choose to have an Independent Visitor at any time from age 8 years, up until they turn 18. The scheme is provided by volunteers who want to befriend and support a young person on a long-term basis. The offer is made in order to give young people the chance to spend time and build a relationship with an adult, who is not involved in their lives as a professional or carer and that can see them throughout their time in care. The IV volunteer will form part of a package of interventions to help the young people whilst in care, supported and supervised by a Hampshire County Council volunteer co-ordinator. Volunteers will be matched with children/young people and offer one to one support. This is likely to include meeting up face to face and supporting them to engage in positive activities. A crucial aspect will be the ability to build positive relationships which allow children and young people to feel listened to and supported and continue as long as needed.
Group and activity support - to support project staff and health visitors to deliver services and activities to children, parents and carers. You could: Help run a Ready Steady Mums group (social walking group) Promote the Five to Thrive approach to families, and help support workshops designed for new/first time parents Support the HENRY programme (Health Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young), promoting a healthy start in a child’s life Help run health roadshows and other relevant activities provided by Healthy Families that promote healthy outcomes for children across Hampshire Child health clinic support - to support health visitors and families during clinic sessions – eg breastfeeding clinics, baby and child weigh and play clinics, etc. You will be expected to: Support the health visiting teams to create a welcoming, friendly and safe environment for families Set up and help run safe play activities Help to ensure Health and Safety requirements for the sessions are met Actively promote key public health messages (resources and appropriate training given where required) Peer befrienders - to support parents, carers and families in the community who may find it daunting to access health services, groups and activities in their local community. For example, you may meet someone outside a toddler group, clinic etc, and go into the activity/group with them. This role will enable the family to access community groups.
