Certificate Presentation in Volunteers’ Week, at 6.45pm on Wednesday 8 June

2016 at the Ashcroft Arts Centre, Osborn Road, Fareham PO16 7DX. Certificates will be presented by the Mayor of Fareham to volunteers who either live or volunteer within the borough. To qualify volunteers should have given a minimum of 100 hours service or have volunteered for a year. Monday Minis Toddler Group - Whiteley

Monday Minis Toddler Group, in the heart of popular Whiteley, needs help with serving snacks/ refreshments from their kitchen 12.30-2.45pm on Mondays during term time. They would also like a volunteer to help with setting up the hall with toys and equipment, then sitting with young families and parents. Some experience is helpful, but not necessary. The group is run at Whitely Community Centre, and they are looking for team players with a happy and approachable nature.

Stubbington and Hill Head Voluntary Care Group Voluntary Drivers Needed for Access to Medical Appointments

The outlying areas of Fareham have always had a Voluntary Car Service to help people get to their Medical Appointments. As public transport has become less available more people have needed to call on this service, not just to reach hospital but also their visits to dentists, opticians, podiatrists, etc. The service is also needed for people to visit sick relatives, particularly if only one person in the household drives and they are sick. In Stubbington and Hill Head we have a thriving and efficient Service but, like everything else, people reach the end of their Service and have to leave and the more volunteers we have the less often they will be required. Some of our drivers prefer local short drives. Others prefer only the longer hospital journeys. Some only offer one selected day a week, others will accept any times (even weekends.) Any help is much appreciated and you will make many new friends. Not all our drivers live within Stubbington and Hill Head but we only carry local residents. A donation based on mileage is given and the cost your Police Clearance (DBS) is covered by the Portsmouth Diocese.

The Cinnamon Trust in Fareham The Cinnamon Trust is the national charity whose wonderful volunteers help people over retirement age and those in the later stages of a terminal illness by offering all kinds of pet care. We urgently need dog walking volunteers in Fareham to help a local resident and their adorable dog Lucy, a 5 year old Shih Tzu cross, who would love to go for a good walk. If you would like to help we would be delighted to hear from you.

What happens if illness, injury or just the fact that we all get older eventually affects our ability to look after our four legged companions? A large number of elderly or ill pet owners become very worried about their ability to care for their pets, feeling that their only option is to re-home them, this is where our national network of dedicated volunteers steps in to offer support enabling them to stay together.

We’ll walk the dog for a housebound owner, we’ll foster pets when owners need hospital care, we’ll fetch the cat food, even clean out the bird cage or litter trays.

We always need new volunteers so even if you can only spare an hour a week we would love to hear from you.

Pets as Therapy Volunteers Pets as Therapy provides befriending and therapy with dogs and cats. Volunteers whose dogs or cats have been behaviour tested provide visits to registered establishments in their community, thus benefiting people in care homes, hospitals or special schools. Over 18 only.

Castle Club Team Member "Front of House"

The Castle Street Centre in Portchester holds lunch and variety clubs on a Wednesday. They give visitors a chance to play games, socialise, listen and Volunteering Matters Page 2

learn. Speakers from all backgrounds are engaged to discuss topics, tell stories and share skills.

Volunteers are needed to be "Front of House", engaging with visitors and making them feel valued.

Portchester Community Centre

Portchester Community Centre is a newly purpose built unit in central Portchester. First class quality facilities are available to the community and regular classes/support groups already use the rooms on a weekly basis. Volunteering here is for individuals who want to be made welcome: Funding Assistant Do you enjoy surfing the internet? Would you like to do this whilst making a huge difference to your community? We need you to be the eyes of the community centre and seek out grants and any other potential funding options. Working alongside the Deputy Community Manager, could you complete applications, seek out required data and hopefully win some funding? Flexible hours and working from home is an option.

Community Cook/Chef Mondays are special at the Portchester Community Centre, it's the time when local, lonely, isolated people can visit the lunch club.

Very successfully run, the lunch club offers a specially planned meal for approximately 30 people. In most cases these 30 local people won't have seen anyone since the last meal. Being the chef/cook is a highly rewarding task, and your contribution would be much appreciated.

Community Garden Assistant Within the community centre there are the hidden treasures of two gardens. Hopefully one day one will become a butterfly and culinary garden – featuring herbs and a selection of plants to attract butterflies – and the other a coastal garden. Could you be a key mind/designer in the gardens of the future? Maybe you'd prefer to just turn up and muck in ... we want to hear from you!

Lockswood Community and Sports Association

Lockswood Community and Sports Association is looking for volunteers to paint and decorate the community centre. Experience required; times to suit.

Café Imbizo Café Imbizo, in the centre of Fareham, provides a warm welcome and successfully combines quality food, supportive services and opportunities to inspire.

Focusing on many community needs, from homelessness to recovery groups, they are frequently holding events/groups to bring the community together. Café Imbizo offers its volunteers a hub of support and motivation; and their customers a place to refuel and unwind.

Volunteering roles include: Café Kitchen Assistant Being one of our Café Kitchen Assistants is very exciting as you are at the creative side of the café and can have an input into the food served once you have learned the basics. This is a varied role which allows you to show your flair with food. You will be helping the staff with food orders and ensure that hygiene rules are followed and the food is prepared and served quickly.

Front of House Volunteer This is a varied role and includes most tasks related to a café. Serving customers behind a counter with refreshment orders, such as different teas and stylish coffees, as well as taking orders for food.

Café Imbizo volunteers need to be able to speak to people with ease and listen effectively to customers' requirements. Training on the till and coffee machine is given as well as support in the role from team members.

Café Support Assistant This is a varied role and is the main support for the Café staff. Your role is to ensure the Café is clean and tidy and displays arranged in an attractive manner. Could you offer support by clearing tables and surfaces? Washing up dishes and ensuring kitchen and café staff are supported? Talk to customers? Replenish stock in fridges and on shelves? Being one of our Café Support Volunteers is very rewarding and you’re a key member of the team, you will be linking the café to kitchens and ensuring customers are kept happy.

Café Imbizo offers its volunteers the chance to be trained in all areas of café duties and this is an exceptional opportunity to move forward on this career path.
