Secretary for Fareham North West Community Association Fareham North West Community Association has a busy community hall with very committed members. They are looking for a volunteer to assist the community group with administration tasks, such as agendas and minutes. They have four meetings a year, so the role should not be too time consuming. This is a hugely valuable role and a chance to join a great team.

Ideally you would have experience of admin and working on a PC. You will need to be able to travel to the community centre for meetings, otherwise the role can be home based.

One Community Visiting Scheme Could you spare an hour or two a week to visit an isolated person? We are recruiting volunteers for our Visiting Scheme across the boroughs of Fareham and Eastleigh. Mileage expenses paid, full training and support provided.

One Community Outreach

Hampshire Libraries Libraries across Hampshire offer a wide range of volunteering roles to suit your skillset. These include choosing and delivering books to those who find accessing libraries difficult, and helping with children’s events or adult learning.

This is a great role if you love reading and would enjoy helping others to access books – and so much more – at your local library.

Help young people with autism or learning difficulties find employment in the IT sector PALS Society is dedicated to helping talented young people with autism or learning difficulties get a job in a field that they love.

Currently only 15% of such people are in full time employment and, mainly, this is just ‘work’. And often it doesn’t last long. PALS believes that if they can connect their talents with work opportunities then they will be incredibly productive, happy, healthy and fulfilled. And our economy will gain too – to the tune of £170,000 per person according to the NAO. To help transform this talent into work-ready skills PALS is offering work placements through its registered charity. This is where you can help by volunteering a small amount of time to mentor a young person through their placement. This involves:  Letting PALS know your knowledge, skills and interests so that they can suggest a match of mentor, mentee and assignment.  An initial meeting with you to talk through the assignment, the technical details, the learning objectives, and any specific requirements and preferences of PALS’ proposed mentee.  Once agreed, a three way face-to-face meeting will be arranged, typically for an hour, between mentor, mentee and PALS Society representative. This meeting will serve the purpose of ‘getting to know each other’ and to discuss ideas for the project.  After this, typically, there will be two further meetings over a three month period. A midcourse review, and a meeting two weeks before completion to work on deliverables.

All meetings will be supported by PALS Society representatives and can be held at your place of work or a neutral venue.

Safe Families for Children South Coast Enthusiastic about making a difference?

Want to help a family get back on their feet?

Interested in helping an overwhelmed parent realise they can do it?

Want to spend time supporting vulnerable children who need a bit of attention? We would love you to think about the opportunity to become a Host Family or a Family Friend.

Family Friend – A Family Friend supports and encourages an isolated and struggling family and, first and foremost, lends a listening ear. Then, the Family Friends work with the family, to reach the goals that the family want to achieve. These goals can be as diverse as learning to read, de-cluttering the house, encouraging a hesitant mum with behaviour strategies, accompanying a mum to a mothers and toddlers group, or helping a family try out cheap and healthy recipes. As a volunteer, you can choose the area you would like to work within, and the case you would like to work with.

You can find a case that suits your own skills and experience. You also choose how much time you would like to give – volunteers typically spend about an hour a week with a family (but some do more). Safe Families for Children works with families where there are children under 10 years old.

You do not have to have any special experience or skills. Anyone of any age can do this - you just need to be willing to engage with people who need support. Most of all, you need to be compassionate, caring and determined to help these families get back on their feet - and stay there!

When you sign up as a volunteer, Safe Families will: ask for three references, carry out an enhanced DBS check, provide training, and conduct a 1:1 assessment.

Host Family – A Host Family will host children up to the age of 10. This happens to give families some respite from a difficult situation or if a

difficulty has arisen which means they need someone to look after the children – such as having to go into hospital. As a volunteer, you can choose the geographical area you would like to work within, and the case you would like to work with. You can find a case that suits your own skills and experience. You can choose the number, age and gender of the children you host. You also choose how much time you would like to give – volunteers typically host over a weekend, roughly once a month, but sometimes, the hosting can last longer.

A volunteer needs no specific skills or qualifications. Experience of child care in any capacity is great, but not essential. Safe Families are looking for people who can be empathetic but also able to support children in what might be a difficult time in their lives. Volunteers need to be caring and compassionate and non-judgemental.

Good listening skills are important. A volunteer's own skills and experiences of parenting, life skills, work experience or talents can be used and matched to particular cases.

Host Families will need a spare room for the child/children they host. The Host Family's house will have a Home Safety Check, carried out by a member of the Safe Families team. Basic ICT skills would be useful, as volunteers need to upload notes onto the Safe Families database.

Step By Step is looking for people who want to give a young person at risk of homelessness a fresh start. They are looking for someone who is good at listening and can offer support with everyday life skills.

The host gets paid £70 a week for rent for their room and £64 for support fee each week too.

The host is also able to contact the support worker if they have any concerns. There is also an out of hours number that can be called to offer support.

Variety Club Host Portchester Community Centre Portchester Community Centre needs a volunteer Variety Club Host 1-3.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon.

The role involves leading activities, games, and discussions; serving refreshments and snacks and clearing up afterwards. You will need to be confident speaking to a group and able to work in a team.

Dog Training Assistant, Capable Creatures Volunteers are needed to assist dog owners who have mental health conditions with the practical aspects of training their Guides for the Mind Dogs.

Helping them learn the skills to train their dogs in an array of behaviours in a range of environments, so their dogs can provide emotional support and help mitigate the disabling symptoms of their conditions.

Volunteers also help support, encourage and motivate owners as they undertake the Guides for the Mind Dog Training Programme, helping them to grow in confidence, skills and independence.

The idea is to enable them to take part in everyday activities and achieve their goals in life.

One Community Information Centre Volunteers One Community’s shop unit in Fareham Shopping Centre is a one stop shop for support, health awareness, volunteering opportunities and general information. We're looking for volunteers to talk to anyone who visits the shop and deal with enquiries. You will either direct them to the support that they need locally or register them for local volunteering opportunities.

Someone with a welcoming nature and good people skills would be ideal, and you'll be best suited to this role if you enjoy helping people.

All training and support will be given. Shifts are from 10am - 1pm or 1pm-4pm, Monday to Saturday.

Christmas Wrapping Volunteers One Community is offering a Christmas gift wrapping service on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 December at the One Community Information Centre, 55 Osborn Mall, Fareham Shopping Centre.

Volunteers are needed to wrap shoppers’ gifts – in return for a charitable donation. If you are interested, phone 023 8090 2458, or pop into the Information Centre and get your name down for a session.

Volunteer to Become a School Governor There are more than 500 schools in Hampshire and they all need committed volunteers to be school governors.

Being a school governor means being interested in getting the best education for the pupils at the school. Governors can become involved in a range of school matters, which can include recruitment, finance and curriculum.

They also provide a strong link between the school and the local community, and an independent view to support the school on long term development and improvement.

Governing bodies meet on at least a termly basis and governors are also expected to get to know their schools through visits. There are a range of training opportunities available to help governors undertake their duties and develop their understanding of the key areas of school management.

Museum Volunteers at Westbury Manor Front of House Volunteers are needed at Westbury Manor Museum, Fareham, which has recently been transformed in a major makeover.

You will be part of a friendly team working in the cafĂŠ/shop greeting visitors on arrival, ensuring high standards of presentation and serving customers.

Fareport Talking News Fareport Talking News, which provides a free weekly recording of news and features for blind and partially sighted residents on a memory stick, is looking for interesting interview subjects.
