Hedge End Good Neighbours Could you spare a few hours on an occasional basis to drive older and disabled people in Hedge End to medical appointments?

Hedge End Good Neighbours is a NEW community group being launched on Sunday April 10th at an afternoon tea party for the over 60’s provided by the Hedge End Breakfast Rotary Club.

Hedge End Good Neighbours is looking to recruit drivers who could take clients to hospital, doctor, dentist, or similar medical appointments. This service needs a group of volunteers who can assist the group on days or times to suit themselves.

Drivers will not be out of pocket as expenses will be paid. Clients will be asked to pay a suggested donation. The group co-ordinator will contact drivers to see if they can fulfil a specific request that has been received. Drivers can then decide whether they are able to assist.

Drivers will be required to have a DBS check, which will be paid for by the group.

We believe this service will make a huge difference to Hedge End residents. Our group is friendly and supportive. We look forward to welcoming you as a volunteer.

Friends of PICU The Friends of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit group at Southampton General Hospital is looking for a Treasurer. This is a voluntary role supporting the charity as an Honorary Trustee, one of importance to the charity. You will handle the details all of the charity’s income and expenditure,

but will be fully supported by an equally passionate group of Trustees and supporters. You will manage the money In and Out for the charity, keeping accurate records and reporting monthly in summary of the charity’s business to the fellow Trustees. In some cases you will liaise with supporters on payments and donations.

Experience of bookkeeping, accountancy, finance, business, and computer skills, particularly Excel and e-mail, would be beneficial.

Local Libraries Summer Reading Challenge Receptionist for Wessex Cancer Trust Would you like to join the team helping to provide support for local people living with cancer?

Volunteer receptionists are needed to provide support at the Wessex Cancer Trust Cancer Support Centre and office in Chandler’s Ford.

Volunteers help in various ways, including welcoming visitors to the centre, responding to phone calls and queries, putting together patient information folders, photocopying, data entry and filing. They are a vital part of the friendly office and centre teams.

Volunteers need to be good team players, be organised and able to commit to help on one morning or afternoon a week. If you have good administration skills, are PC literate and have empathy for with people living with cancer, this could be the volunteer role for you.

Evening Receptionists for Relate, Eastleigh The Relate Centre based in the Eastleigh Borough Council Offices, Upper Market Street, Eastleigh, is seeking volunteers to meet and greet clients arriving for counselling once every two weeks on Monday evenings.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a national scheme provided by the Reading Agency and delivered for free throughout Hampshire’s libraries. It is designed for children aged 4-11 with the aim of keeping them reading during the school holidays. You will be working with children, their parents and carers.

You will explain how to take part and register children with the scheme. You’ll talk to them about the books they have read, encouraging them to share their views and hand out reading rewards such as stickers and medals. You’ll assist with general administration and help customers by referring enquiries to relevant members of staff.

The ability to be enthusiastic about reading is essential, together with good interpersonal skills enabling you to talk and listen to young children in a friendly and patient way. You need to remain calm at busy times but cope when things are quieter.

Volunteers have an induction session to complete before they start.

Gardeners for Eastleigh Good Neighbours Eastleigh Good Neighbours offers a light gardening service to people in Eastleigh town who are unable to manage their gardens for whatever reason. This would include mowing the lawn, weeding and keeping the garden tidy. We would be delighted to hear from Eastleigh people able to volunteer some time to help with this service. Volunteers need to have basic gardening skills and transport. Mileage expenses paid at 45p per mile and equipment provided.

Volunteers should be residents of Eastleigh town, aged 16+, and have basic gardening skills and their own transport.

Webmaster and General IT Wizard for Eastleigh Bereavement Society EBS, the bereavement service for Eastleigh and Southampton, is looking for a volunteer to give its website a new look and/or take over the running of it. EBS is a registered charity providing bereavement counselling and more general counselling, covering work related issues, changing job, bullying, living problems, sexuality, loss and moving house, to name a few. An improved website would be a great contribution to the continuing success of the organisation.

They are looking for someone with experience of building web sites. Also knowledge of blogs, Facebook and other social media would be useful.

Local Learning Disability Groups Needs Secretary

A secretary is needed for Eastleigh Good Neighbours, to take notes at each meeting (6 per year), and prepare the agenda for the following meeting. The secretary is also responsible for managing the group's correspondence. The EGN committee is a friendly and supportive group and full training for the role will be given.

Project to Count Birds A science project is seeking more volunteers to count the number of birds visiting the Solent.

Climate change, coastal defence schemes and other issues that sparked fears that the number of birds roosting and feeding in the area could start to decline.

A new scheme called Solentbirds aims to help researchers understand the conservation needs of internationally important species.

Natural England, one of the organisations

A local charity organising social events for people with a learning disability is looking for someone to take notes and create minutes of their meetings. The meetings are held every two months on either a Wednesday or Thursday morning. It is a friendly group who would make the new secretary very welcome.

They need someone with basic IT skills and access to a computer.

Eastleigh Countryside Volunteers Are you the sort of person who is fascinated by fungi, bowled over by butterflies, partial to plants or longs to be messy in the mud? If so then volunteering in the countryside could be for you. There are so many benefits from becoming a countryside volunteer. It's great exercise – why go to the gym when you can be burning off calories by working hard in the fresh air? the opportunity to learn new skills such as hedgelaying, fencing or coppicing and above all, it's great fun!

Fundraising Coordinator Hampshire Search and Rescue This role involves coordinating and helping with all aspects of fundraising for this small charity run entirely by volunteers. HANTSAR needs to raise at least £15k per year in order to run the charity.

Much of the work is done from home with meetings arranged with other members of the fundraising team at a venue that suits the majority of the team. Currently this is a meeting room at Asda in Chandlers Ford. Much of the training for HANTSAR is carried out in the south of the county and the coordinator would probably need to attend some of the sessions in order to get an idea of the work that is carried out by HANTSAR. Responsibilities include:  Managing email correspondence from team members and external suppliers/supporters  Arranging fundraising events (supermarket collections, marshalling races, helping out at country shows etc.)  Managing events the charity attends to increase recruitment and raise the profile  Purchasing and selling merchandise  Managing tins that are placed in various shops  Interacting with the grants coordinator  Investigating additional sources of funding  Tracking and recording monies that are collected  Holding meetings for the Fundraising Team  Coordinating with the main committee  Delegating where necessary This role requires an enthusiastic person with good coordinating and/or administration skills and preferably someone who is happy to talk for the team (although this is not vital). No previous experience is required but would be very useful. The role would probably require someone with some life experience who is used to working in a team and has the confidence to manage events and people.

Family Support Visitor – Home-Start Meon Valley Home-Start Meon Valley is looking for volunteer Family Support Visitors. You will be matched with a family who have at least one pre -school child and who need some extra help. You will have been well trained by Home Start to be able to handle the family's needs. They may have had a multiple birth or mum may have post-natal depression. One or two days a week for a couple of hours you will visit the home to listen, help and support.

Your expenses will be paid. You will attend a training course which runs for 40 hours over 6-8 weeks. Men and women, younger and older, are needed – so long as you will be non-judgemental and supportive to the families. You will meet with a staff member every 6 -8 weeks to review progress.

The Home-Start office, where the supervision takes place and where the training is given, is in Wickham.
