Treasurer for Mencap Eastleigh Borough and Romsey MENCAP Society runs activities and projects in the region aimed at supporting people with learning disabilities who live with their families, in supported housing or independently. The group runs 3 to 4 social events for members and their carers throughout the year.

The Society is run by volunteers and employs 6 staff.

Eastleigh Borough and Romsey Mencap Society is looking for an enthusiastic person to take on the Treasurer’s role. The Treasurer plays a key role in providing book keeping and financial analysis for the Society's various projects in supporting people with a learning disability. The role involves:  Control of banking and payment of invoices/ expenses  Overseeing staff payments  Recording and monitoring costs attributed to the group’s projects  Liaising with the Chair and Development Officer on financial matters/projects  Preparing monthly income and expenditure sheets  Preparing and submitting statutory reports to the Charity Commission  Preparing a financial report for the Annual General Meeting, held in November



Attending committee meetings held every 6/8 weeks in Eastleigh or Chandler’s Ford The role is home based, plus attendance at committee meetings, held every 6 to 8 weeks in Eastleigh or Chandler’s Ford.

Eastleigh Good Neighbours Can you volunteer and give something back to the local community? Eastleigh Good Neighbours is a group of local volunteers who offer a helping hand to residents of Eastleigh town. Their main aim is to provide transport for older or disabled people to doctor’s or hospital appointments and to help them to maintain some independence.

They are URGENTLY looking for people to help ‘man the phones’ from home for a couple of hours of an evening one week in three to help coordinate the appointments between the clients and drivers.

Also needed is a secretary to take notes at meetings (six per year) and to produce an agenda for each meeting.

Dementia Friendly Eastleigh Eastleigh Borough Council and charity Dementia Friendly Hampshire have been working with local residents, community groups and businesses on a new initiative which aims to make Eastleigh Borough Dementia Friendly.

Local Dementia Action Groups have been set up in Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath, Bursledon, Hamble and Hound, Hedge End, West End and Botley, and Chandler’s Ford and Hiltingbury to look at the needs of people living with dementia and what communities can do to support them as they go about their daily lives.

The Action Groups are looking for new members, so if you would like to find out more please get in touch.

Become an Advocate with SCA and Give a Voice to Vulnerable People Volunteers are needed to give a voice to those who are unable to make themselves heard. To support vulnerable people with issues that affect their everyday lives, including family and relationships, debt, housing, employment, benefits, child protection, adult protection, rights, access to services, disputes and appeals, amongst others. Volunteers need to be available to meet clients in either Southampton, Portsmouth or Bournemouth.

SCA’s work focuses on supporting those without capacity or limited capacity eg people with learning disabilities, dementia etc, and also those leaving custody. Training will be provided and expenses paid.

Barnardo’s Parenting Group Support Hampshire Specialist Parenting Support Service is a new service to support parents and carers who have a child with a diagnosis of ADHD, a diagnosis of Autism, challenging behaviour suggestive of a conduct disorder, or are teenagers displaying anti-social behaviour. The service delivers a selection of evidence-based parenting programmes to groups of up to 12 parents at a range of venues across Hampshire. The aim of the service is to help parents and carers understand the emotions and feelings that drive their child’s behaviour and to develop positive strategies to help them manage their child’s emotions and behaviour. HSPSS is looking for volunteers to help the team to deliver parenting groups in community settings. The work can be challenging but is also very enjoyable, making a real difference to the lives of children and families.

HSPSS is looking for volunteers who are able to:  Support practitioners to prepare group resources  Assist with setting up for group delivery  Meet and greet arrivals and get them signed in

 

Support some of the group work activities Provide emotional support to parents as required  Once trained, co-facilitate some of the parenting delivery Ideally you will have attended one of HSPSS courses OR have experience of delivering evidence based parenting programmes OR be a social work student. If you don’t have this experience we can arrange for you to shadow someone and attend a course to gain that insight.

Volunteers should:  Have a non-judgmental/flexible attitude alongside good listening skills  Be sensitive to others’ needs and emotions and be able to demonstrate empathy  Have the ability to share skills, interests or activities with people  Be prepared to attend on-going training and supervision You will need to commit to a minimum of one 3hour session a week, with some opportunities for evenings. Session times will be 9am-12noon, or 123pm, or 6-9pm. You will receive a full induction into the work of the HSPSS service, mandatory Volunteer Training (including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Professional Boundaries), regular supervision and support from a named Parenting Support Worker, as agreed with you.

Canine Partners Support Group Volunteer Join one of Canine Partners local support groups; working together to raise the profile of Canine Partners and increase much needed funds to train more puppies and develop more valuable people/ puppy partnerships.

Could you assist a group of like-minded people to run a coffee morning, dinner or quiz night, walks or something similar? Maybe you could represent Canine Partners at events or shows?

The organisation is looking for someone who likes dogs, is flexible and good with people.

Lunchtime Helper Bursledon Lunch Club About 15 elderly people come to the Bursledon Lunch Club on a Wednesday from 11am until 2pm.

The club needs someone to help serve coffee and lunch, to assist the cook if she needs it (no skills required) and to help clear up afterwards. In amongst all that there is time to chat to the members, some of whom do not get out and talk to anyone during most of the week.

The group asks that whoever takes this on is committed (as much as possible) to every Wednesday. They do go out for lunch occasionally and hope that you would come too.

Tuesday Morning Volunteer for Eastleigh Museum A volunteer is needed at Eastleigh Museum on a Tuesday morning. In the delightful setting of Eastleigh's community museum, One Community volunteers provide a warm welcome to visitors, including occasional school visits, and information about exhibits. Duties include serving light refreshments in the small cafe and selling items in the shop. The museum is a hub of community life, preserving Eastleigh's heritage and putting people in touch with local services, opportunities and events. The morning shifts is from 9.30am until 12.45pm.

Telephone Helpline Listeners Winchester Samaritans Following selection and a ten -week training programme, Samaritans commit to a weekly 3-hour duty session (weekends included) and 6-7 night duties per year.

Volunteers listen to callers on the phone and talk face to face with visitors at the Centre. They also respond by email and text. Full support is always available and there are regular meetings and ongoing training.

Information letters are sent to those who are interested in volunteering and you will be offered an opportunity to speak over the phone to an experienced Samaritan before applying.

Safe and Well Advisor – Hampshire Fire and Rescue Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for volunteers to carry out Home Safety Visits on their behalf, and to participate in local safety promotion initiatives and activities to generate Safe and Well Visits. The role involves visiting households as requested by the Service to conduct Safe and Well Visits with the occupier, to include identifying fire hazards and inspecting/fitting smoke alarms if required. You will liaise regularly with the nominated person to receive details of visits to be carried out, and complete the relevant paperwork and return it to the Service in the agreed timeframe.

Safe and Well Advisors also participate in local safety promotion initiatives and safety events, and activities to generate Safe and Well visits.

Practical skills required include the use of drills, stepladders and small tools; and the ability to complete the required paperwork to record the visit and actions taken. Volunteers need to be reliable, responsible and trustworthy, with good written and verbal communication skills and a friendly, confident and approachable manner. Volunteers should also have a willingness to work as part of a team and abide by specified procedures and processes. Preferably, volunteers should hold a full current driving licence.

You will receive full training to undertake this role effectively.

You will also receive a full induction into the Service to help you understand your role, as well as regular feedback and support. You will need to be able to commit to an average of four hours a week in one session. Previously agreed travel and out of pocket expenses with be reimbursed. Suitable clothing and identification will be provided to enable you to undertake your role.
