Governors Needed for Netley Abbey Junior School Netley Abbey Junior School is looking for two new Governors to join their dynamic team. They meet nine times a year and full training will be given.

They are looking for people with IT experience and also a financial background. Anyone interested is welcome to have an informal chat.

Train to Become a Volunteer Befriender in February 2018 If you’re considering volunteering and you’d like to work with children, then this could be the perfect training course for you. Friends of the Family is a Winchester-based charity which offers support to children and families who are going through difficulties and are in need of friendship. The charity trains volunteers to become befrienders to children aged between 5 and 13.

Following the two-day course, befrienders are carefully matched to a child whom they visit once a week, either after school or at the weekend, for a two hour period. In addition to free training, Friends of the Family offers its volunteers regular supervision, paid travel expenses and invitations to volunteer get-togethers, where volunteers can share experiences and offer each other support and advice.

Caroline, who is a volunteer befriender with Friends of the Family said: “Go for it! It’s wonderfully rewarding, professionally organised and you will gain so much more than you give.”

If you are over the age of 23, enjoy spending time with children and you have two hours a week to spare, then we would love to hear from you.

Eastleigh Live at Home Eastleigh Live at Home scheme, a charity that aims to reduce loneliness among older people, needs volunteers for a variety of roles. These include helping in clubs, befriending, driving a minibus or your own car and helping with fundraising.

Admin Support for Eastleigh Dementia Advice Service The Eastleigh Dementia Advice Service is looking for a volunteer to assist the Dementia Adviser with the day to day administration needs of the service.

and services users’ records are kept up to date and archiving documents, and doing data input on the database, for which full training will be provided.

You could also assist with the promotion of the service, including collating information packs, and producing posters, leaflets and publicity materials.

The office is in central Eastleigh.

Dementia Outreach Services Volunteer The Eastleigh Dementia Advice Service is looking for a volunteer to assist the Dementia Advisers in the delivery of an advice and information service for people with dementia, their carers and families.

The sorts of things that you might be doing are:  visiting people with dementia, their carers, families and friends to listen and provide a social element  acting as a liaison link for people to access the Dementia Advice Service  assisting the Dementia Advisor with the day to day administration needs of the service  assisting the Dementia Advisor to promote the service

Velmore Art Group Velmore Art Group is looking for an enthusiastic person to assist in the running of their monthly arts and crafts group. If putting a smile on someone's face gives you satisfaction, this could be the role for you. The group currently consists of six adults with mental health or learning difficulties who come together for friendship, support, art and craft and a cup of tea.

If you have a couple of hours to spare and enjoy creativity in a social setting, please consider this role. There is the opportunity to add your own flair and style to the group.

Marketing for Eastleigh Good Neighbours Eastleigh Good Neighbours is looking for a new committee member to take responsibility for marketing. The role would be to raise awareness of the group to both potential volunteers and potential service users, through events, press releases, leaflets and posters.

The organisation has no office base, but meets five times a year in central Eastleigh.

Opportunities are either home based or in the Eastleigh area.

Coordinator for Eastleigh Good Neighbours A new volunteer is needed to join the coordinating team at Eastleigh Good Neighbours. The role is based at home and involves picking up messages from services users and matching their requests (for transport to a medical appointment, or help with gardening, etc) with an available volunteer.

The work is managed on an Excel spreadsheet. The commitment is about 10 hours per week, while you are on rota. The rota is shared so the coordinators take a week at a time. All expenses are paid. The service only runs Monday to Friday.

Drivers for Hedge End Good Neighbours Hedge End Good Neighbours needs volunteer drivers, using their own cars, to provide transport to those who have difficulties attending medical appointments - eg hospital, GP, dentist and optician’s appointments.

They are looking for drivers who are friendly and reassuring. Fully expenses are paid.

Tudor House Customer Service Volunteer The Tudor House in Southampton is looking for volunteers to become key members of the front-of -house team, providing customer service at the museum. Volunteers work to a front-of-house rota, ensuring public and staff health and safety at all times (including assisting with fire evacuation) and protecting the collections and buildings, which are of historical and cultural interest.

Volunteers are asked to do a minimum of a 2.75 hour shift per week, during opening hours.

Become a Puppy Parent for Canine Partners Canine Partners is a registered charity that transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with assistance dogs. These amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks. These lifechanging dogs also provide psychological and social benefits including increased independence, confidence, social interaction and self-esteem.

Want to help train amazing puppies?

Canine Partners is looking for volunteer puppy walkers who can help them train puppies from

eight weeks old until they are 12-14 months old when they will be ready to start their advanced training at one of the charity’s training centres.

What is a puppy parent?

Puppy walkers are called puppy parents because they provide the puppies with the love, care and skills to get ready for ‘big school’ – just like any parent would for their child.

Why become a puppy parent?

Being a puppy parent is a highly rewarding, challenging but fun opportunity, as it enables you to:  Learn fundamental puppy training skills such as puppy socialisation  Attend puppy classes in your local area with other puppy walkers  Meet like-minded dog lovers  Play a vital part in transforming the life of a person with disabilities “Being a puppy parent is a hugely rewarding thing to do and I would recommend it to anyone who has the time and energy to look after an active puppy.

Whilst it is a big responsibility, I believe that you get a huge amount of personal satisfaction from knowing that you have been part of a very special dog’s life.”

Socialising a puppy is absolutely crucial to prepare them for the wider world and the sorts of situations they will find themselves in when out and about with their partner.

Your puppy will live with you at your home until it is ready to start advanced training, from around 8 weeks to between 12 and 14 months.

During this time, you will train the puppy with the support of Canine Partners’ expert trainers who will teach you the fundamentals of puppy socialisation as well as simple commands.

This training will involve home visits, one-to-ones, town visits and some classes. Canine Partners will also be on hand for 24 hour emergency support and help.
