Welcome back!

It was great to see so many of you taking part in our trips and activities over the summer. We hope you all had a great summer and have started off the new school term refreshed.

We are hoping to bring to you an information packed newsletter with pictures of some of the trips you took part in over the summer, details of upcoming trips, new club timetables and more! .

Message from Jo As many of you are aware we recently lost our Children in Need funding, for the 811 Project. We have been working hard to ensure we can continue to support all Young Carers. We have come up with a new plan and there has been changes to staff roles.

Please see the Meet the Team pages within this newsletter.

The biggest change that you may notice is with our ENERGY CLUB Sessions, in Eastleigh.

The sessions will now be split into 3 groups: Group 1 for Young Carers in Year 3-6 at school:

3:45PM-5:00PM

Group 2 for Young Carers in Year 7-9:

5:15PM - 6:30PM

Group 3 for Young Carers in Year 10+:

6:30PM -7:45PM

I am also looking for Young Carers who will be willing to meet every two months to attend our new YOUNG CARERS FORUM. This will be your chance to help shape the Young Carers Service in the future, discuss what you enjoy about the project and what we could improve.

MEET THE TEAM AMIE SIMONS - SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER AND HAMPSHIRE YOUNG CARERS CHOIR COORDINATOR - 023 8090 2403 - asimons@1community.org.uk I joined the project in December 2014 and have loved every second of working for and with Eastleigh Young Carers.

I am the School Support worker which means that I go into secondary schools and have 1:1 sessions there with our young carers to offer them support in any way they need it. If you would like to see me and talk to me at any time then please just get in touch. You can contact the office or speak to the young carers’ worker at your school :) I am also the Choir Coordinator. Every Thursday, 6-7:30 pm in Eastleigh, I meet with a group of young people from various young carers projects across Hampshire to relax, have fun and sing our hearts out.

This has become one of my favourite things to do and we are always looking for new members so come along!!!

In my spare time I am very active!! I love to sing and play guitar. I am also learning piano. Reading and writing is another love of mine; I write songs, poetry and short stories. On top of this I go to meditation and yoga classes and am learning to Lindyhop (a type of swing and jazz dance).

BIPPA DOSANJH - ACTIVITY WORKER - 023 8090 2418 bdosanjh@1community.org.uk I have been volunteering at Eastleigh Young Carers since October 2014 and have been working temporarily over the summer holidays with the trips that we have held for the young carers. My role within Eastleigh Young Carers is to plan and provide creative activities for the children who access our youth clubs. I also organise, plan and run the Day Trips. I like to make them feel welcome and engage with others during these sessions to form new friendships and to just have fun! :) In my spare time I like listening to music, shopping and playing with my dog Smokey.

DANIELLE SMITH - ACTIVITY WORKER - 023 8090 2418 dsmith@1community.org.uk I joined the team in July 2015 and have had a fantastic summer meeting lots of Young Carers on the trips.

My role is to plan and organise activities and experiences for the project and the Youth Clubs and Day Trips. I love that my job is creative and always varied and I love to be part of Young Carers having a great time, making friends and building their confidence.

My likes are cats, reading and enjoying the outdoors.

MEET THE TEAM DONNA STROUD - FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER - 023 8090 2424 - dstroud@1community.org.uk I have just taken on the new role within Eastleigh Young Carers as the Family Support Worker. I have worked for the project since April 2014 and many of you will already recognise me from the work I did with the 811 project. My new role means I will be supporting Young Carers and their families who have been identified as being in higher need and maybe experiencing more challenging times.

I hope to work proactively with parents/cared for to enable families to access the help available to them by sign posting and working closely with other referral partners. You will still catch me from time to time at the regular Youth Clubs and on some of the trips during holidays. I am really excited to have taken on this new role and look forward to helping our families that little bit more :) In the spare time that I have I love to explore the Arts and Crafts, photography and being outdoors as much as possible with my family and Roxy our woofer!!!

GEMMA MEREDITH-CHAPMAN - PROJECT WORKER - 023 8090 2424 gmeredith@1community.org.uk I joined Eastleigh Young Carers in October 2012 and have seen the project shape and grow. I love that we have a passionate team who offer a range of support and that we are always looking to improve the service we provide.

My role is to meet all new families that want to join the project and to keep in touch with our Young Carers to make sure we are meeting all their and their family needs. If your circumstances ever change or you want to talk to someone about any concerns then please get in touch on 023 8090 2424.

Outside of work I enjoy reading a good book, yoga, being outdoors either in the garden, on walks or by the coast, and spending time with my little girl and my husband.

JO MILES - YOUNG CARERS SERVICES MANAGER - 023 8090 2465 jmiles@1community.org.uk I have worked for Eastleigh Young Carers Project for over 7 years. My role is to make sure that we are providing a safe, secure, supportive and fun project for Young Carers. I spend lots of time fundraising, and writing funding bids to ensure we can continue to support all of you. I love my job and working with all of the fantastic Young Carers we support. It’s great to see you grow in confidence, make friends and have fun. When I can I try to come to club, choir and trips to see all of you.

I am a season ticket holder at Southampton FC so I enjoy watching lots of football. I enjoy going for long walks with my husband, cooking and love my little cat Mrs Bean :) If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project please get in touch.

op h s k r o w p i h s n o ti Healthy rela We have been given the opportunity for the Safe Partnership charity to come into One Community to hold a workshop for 12+ years old. It is a free workshop and all the participants will receive a free goody bag.

Refreshments will be provided.

The charity has developed a safeDATE programme and they help raise people’s awareness of abusive relationships, domestic abuse and violence.

Hampshire Young Carers Got Talent On Saturday 19th September, Young Carers from across Hampshire took part in ‘Young Carers Got Talent’ in Basingstoke.

It was a fantastic day and Eastleigh had an amazing 11 entries, including the Hearoh’s Choir.

Everyone that performed was outstanding and showed courage, confidence and determination.

Congratulations to Lauryn Petch who was awarded 4th prize for singing and Jack Salter who came 3rd for his electric guitar performance. As a project, we are all extremely proud of everyone that took part, you were all superstars!!!!

The event was filmed and we should receive a DVD shortly for all performers.

A big thanks to all of the families who came to support, we hope that you enjoyed the show as much as we did.

SOCO Music Project is starting a new Young Carers Samba Drumming Group for Young Carers aged 10 -18 years old.

No experience is needed and anybody can benefit enormously from Samba Drumming.

Hearoh’s A free to join vocal group who provide song writing, recording and performance opportunities to Young Carers across Hampshire in a relaxed and supportive environment. No experience necessary.
