EDITORSNOTE Hello, It’s a warm welcome back! After a mini hiatus we are back with another fabulous edition of 24/7livelistings.com. March is officially award season so to celebrate we take a look at the magical world of Hollywood with our Oscar special.

For our travel section we profile one of the jewels in the Caribbean’s crown, the Nature Island that is Dominica. As usual you can get your regular fix of news, gossip, motoring and fitness and we shine a light on one of the UK’s rising stars, Kane.

That’s not all, there’s a look at the New Golf Cabriolet and gallery of some of Hollywood’s power couples. But let me stop you there and let you get on to reading this mag from cover to cover.

According to newly filed Reports in the US, rapper Eve owes the IRS $3267,000 [£162,095] in back taxes.

A homemade trick I have been using for many years consists of two ingredients in your cupboard! Sugar and Olive Oil. I know it sounds crazy but doing this regime five times a week in the morning leaves your face glowing and hydrated for the remainder of the day.

A teaspoon of sugar and half a tea spoon of Olive Oil mixed together until it becomes a paste, rub this on your face as you would an exfoliating scrub and thoroughly wash after.

The Golf Cabriolet has finally made a reappearance after 9 years and is currently available in the MK VI model. The roof will go from 0 - sunshine in 9.5 seconds up to speeds of 18mph and does not compromise the 250 litres boot space. This is because the roof folds on top of the boot which I think is practical.

‘ VW have finally made the GTI and the R as an option for the cabriolet’.

There are 5 different specs available which are the S, SE, GT, GTI, & the R. I am thrilled that VW have finally made the GTI and the R as an option for the cabriolet, for the simple fact that you now have the option of having a higher performance spec.

However these topless models weigh in heavier than their

topped models and are a bit more pricey. The GTI for example costs an additional £3,935 compared to the hard top, 0-60 is 7.3 seconds compared to 6.5 seconds. That’s almost 1 second slower, now you may say “it’s only 1 second I don’t see the big deal.”

This is where you’re sadly mistaken. For example,

would you pay an extra £200 to get a lap dance from a 23st sweaty out of shape stripper? When the slimmer & trimmer stripper could do the same job for £200 less and minus your parts being crushed. See where I’m going with this? Are you still keeping up at the back?

Good. My point is that this is a lot of money to “upgrade” a Golf.

Due to the dimensions of this car there’s plenty of room for four adults. Taller passengers like myself may find it slightly awkward when sitting in the back as the legroom fails to accommodate.

ELLA EYRE BRIT AWARDS 2014: VARIOUS ARTISTS (OUT NOW) KATY B: LITTLE RED (10 FEB 2014)

Little Red is the long awaited second album from London born singer, Katy B. After several months on the album being pushed back and changes being made its finally here. Her debut album On A Mission back in 2011 was greatly received and did relatively well.

Katy continues with her dancefloor portraits, adding depth to her storytelling on this LP, The first single 5am is rave hit which would mellow you down after a night out.

Enlisted on the album is Songwritingsupremo Guy Chambers who lends his talents to huge ballads such as Crying For No Reason.

We also see Katy playing with both desire and fire on the tracks I Like You and All My Loving, where, she outlines the parallels between love and drugs.

On a whole Little Red is quite sleek and fairly consistent throughout, her singing and vocals can not be criticised as it is strong throughout.

Overall she has played it fairly safe on this LP, and i cant help but feel like a little something extra could have been added. But having said that the album is definitely a grower.

Money on my Mind is a quirky up-tempo track with an drum and bass edge The chorus line is quite infectious and catchy illustrating Smiths strong falcetto.

Cant Remember to Forget You is a very provocative song.

Vocally its not the strongest ive heard either singer sing, but nevertheless the track works together as they both compliment eachother within the track The song itself is catchy but for all the wrong reasons. It will definitely appeal to a younger audience and if the video is any thing to go bye (which is very sexy) im sure a lot of guys too.

Overall its a decent commercial sounding track with a huge popappeal to it.

We’re Forever Blowing (Housing) Bubbles It’s a peculiar British affectation, at a basic level, property ownership appears to amount to individual power and the first step of having some sort of economic standing.

The political system has wrapped itself around “property rights” since property was invented. The problem with this is that any deflation of this asset is systemically damaging – property millionaires find themselves plunged into debt overnight, homes are lost and families are destroyed.

Contrast the situation with Spain, where until recently, home ownership was as low as 42% across the eligible population.

Ernst & Young recently reported that the UK is at the foot of another housing crisis. which is ominous as it is outpacing the speed at which wages are increasing.

It only feels like yesterday that we were being told that the previous housing bubble had popped and we were facing financial Armageddon. ‘Yesterday’ it appears is nigh on seven years ago.

‘I’m forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air, they fly so high, nearly reach the sky then like my dreams they fade and die.

Fortunes always hiding, I’ve looked everywhere, I’m forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air!

I understand that this ancient folk song is often heard at Upton Park to celebrate the triumphs of the local team, West Ham FC. That aside, first things first; a definition: Bubble /’b^b(e)l/ 1. a thin, globular sphere of liquid enclosing air or another gas 2. used to refer to a good or fortunate situation that is isolated from reality or unlikely to last An economic bubble is described by economist Ronald King as “trade in high volumes at prices that are considerably at variance with intrinsic values.”

The increase of house prices indicates a housing market where property is trading hands again, that means that banks are lending to homebuyers.

People have also made enough financial space in their budgets to save for mortgage deposits. It indicates that jobs on the increase and those in jobs feel more stable and the credit provided by mortgage lenders is affordable.

The housing market is being supported by a number of factors. Firstly, David Cameron and George Osborne have waded in to back us home buyers in the form of a guarantee scheme.

If you can save 5% of the property price, the Mortgage Guarantee Scheme may enable you to get on the property ladder (if your property

is £600,000 or less).

If you are in an unfortunate future position to not be able to meet your mortgage commitments, the Government will foot some (if not most) of the bill.

But, we might have set ourselves up for a fall.

Interest rates – the price you pay the bank for them lending you money - are low – historically low.

The international interest in London property is also impacting property prices.

Petrodollars are flooding into London, as international business people and families secure a piece of the action for themselves.

The aggressive purchasing of property in this context also pushes up average prices.

It’s starting to sound like we have the perfect environment to heat up the housing market.

But is it a bubble? At its heart, a bubble is defined by whether or not the conditions creating the outcomes – and the outcomes themselves – can be maintained.

Despite what Cameron and Osborne are saying, I am siding with the naysayers. The conditions allowing us to buy property cannot last forever.

House prices in London are predicted by E&Y to average £600,000 by 2018. In four years time, the average price of a house in the Big Smoke is going to out of the reach of most individuals who aspire to buy property.

The cost of buying in London is 3.5 times more than the average house price in Northern Ireland and over 3.3 times the average in the North East.

Income multiples are now back to pre-crisis levels in London as homeowners take on increasingly expensive mortgages.

The weird thing about bubbles is that you cannot unmake them. That is perceived to do more damage than letting them pop naturally. The aim is to bring them down slowly, allowing them to reach a slower momentum which is in line with inflation and wages.

But how to do this? Interest rates will need a lot of attention when they are increased, and this increase probably needs to occur at a snail’s pace. Wages will also require help to increase.

Credit will have to be withdrawn slowly, so as not to cause a liquidity panic or another credit crunch. It becomes a game of pulling levers, to see what works. Sadly it’s a game where we are generally not very successful.

Jeremy Grantham noted that “[b]ubbles have quite a few things in common, but housing bubbles have a spectacular thing in common, and that is every one of them is considered unique and different.”

This one is interesting and set apart from the house price crisis in 2007/8 in the sense that it was the Government and the Bank of England that created the bubble, all in an effort to revive the economy. whether this bubble will “fade and die” or violently pop and wreak havoc, is anyone’s guess..

Game, Set and MATCH

I think it is fair to say that my obsession with colour matching my clothes began at an early age. I was sent home from my junior school once, not for fighting, but for wearing white trousers - with blue flecks no less – (WHAT? It was the 80s), along with an all-white jumper.

I cannot recall what I must’ve been thinking back then, but perhaps it was Wimbledon inspired, with their all white kits? Perhaps ten year old me was looking at that all white outfit and thinking ‘YOLO’ way before Drake coined the term?

Fast forward many moons and here I am, just as obsessed with matching my clothes and now I always have to factor in my trainers too. When I say obsessed, I literally cannot wear clashing colours as it makes me feel uncomfortable and anxious.

I see all these hipster cats with crazy coloured Air Max Ones and about seventeen other colours across their outfit and it brings me out in a cold sweat. I appreciate that people have the confidence to rock clashing colours well, but it’s just not for me.

As ever, I realise that within the ever growing sneaker community, I am not alone. The more Instagram trainer timelines I follow, the more I see of people taking great care in matching their kicks with their snapbacks. It seems to be even more prevalent in the USA where there is huge reference back to an individual’s Basketball or American Football team and where it is often referred to as a ‘fit.

In certain circles it is thought to be a little passé but I couldn’t care less if I’m honest as I’ll be Matchy Matchy for life.

But does it come down to a deeper rooted thing? Or is it simply down to rocking your team’s colours? Supporting sports teams is rather tribal

at its core. For instance Everton football fans won’t wear red Santa Claus outfits but have special blue ones instead.

Perhaps it comes down to the age old bandwagon behaviour, where people do it as they see others do it and they think it’s cool to be the same?

It’s not as much of a problem as the whole Air Jordan epidemic (which I discussed in a previous article right here in 24/7 Live Listings) but walk around most parts of London and other major cities and you’ll get a glimpse of what I’m talking about.

I allude to it being a problem, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, as I’m just talking about colour matching clothes and trainers here, but maybe I do have a real problem?

SPRING FITNESS

This month I have compiled 3 great exercises to help you lose your Love Handles, not just for spring but all year round to.

BICYCLE CRUNCH:

Laying flat on your back with your hands by your ears, elevate your legs to a 90-degree angle. Exhale, pull one knee and opposite shoulder toward each other. Keep a slight space between your chin and chest.

-Inhale and return to start.

-Repeat to opposite side.

-Repeat 10-15 times each side.

RUSSIAN TWIST BEGINNERS AND ADVANCE

Grab a medicine ball, dumbbell, or weight plate if you have no weights you can also use a water bottle or you can do without weights, if and sit on the floor with your hips and knees bent 90 degrees. Hold the weight straight out in front of you and keep your back straight (your torso should be at about 45 degrees to the floor). Explosively twist your torso as far as you can to the left , and then reverse the motion, twisting as far as you can to the right. That’s one rep, do 3 sets of 8-12 at the end of your workout.

THE WINDSHIELD WIPER The windshield wiper provides a gentle way to target the oblique muscles.

Lie on your back with your legs up and knees bent so that your shins are parallel with the floor. Spread your arms straight out at your sides to add stabilization for your upper body.

Pull your belly button into your spine and contract your core. With control, lower your legs to the left without moving your upper body.

Slowly return your legs to the center and then lower them to the right.

Slow and controlled movements are key for this exercise. Complete three sets of 10 to 15 repetitions per side.

Pound for pound, sprinters are some of the leanest and strongest athletes on the planet. They possess the perfect storm of fast-twitch dominance, exceptional reaction time, great work capacity, and a favourable endocrine profile.

Most people who start trying to lose weight start by doing cardio do long, mind-numbing hours on a treadmill or bike. It’s not hard to see why people take this approach – it’s what everyone else seems to be doing at the gym. It also seems intuitive – after all, if you want to lose weight you have to put in your time, right?

Yes by doing hours upon hours of steady state cardio each week you will lose weight. But unfortunately it isn’t healthy weight. What you’ll end up losing is mostly water and muscle weight. By losing muscle, you slow down your metabolism even more causing you to gain body fat.

When it comes to cardio for the purpose of fat loss, the most effective method is actually the least intuitive – going on shorter, but higher intensity sprints is significantly better for fat loss than long, steady jogs. This method of sprinting for fat loss is known as high intensity interval training, or HIIT HIIT training on the other hand would involve doing short – but intense – sprints where the runner runs as fast as they possibly can. On the treadmill, this might mean cranking up the incline and increasing the speed drastically. While the period of exercise is short – usually 15-60 seconds – the individual pushes themselves as hard as they can during that short interval.

After the sprint, the person takes a short break before repeating another all-out interval, and then another, until they’re fully exhausted. The total exercise time is usually no more than 10-20 minutes. HIIT training takes less time to achieve the same results as longer, slower running – but it’s certainly not easier. Doing interval training creates what some fitness experts have called the “afterburn effect”. While the physiology of the effect is complicated to describe, in a nutshell, the intense sprinting kicks the body’s metabolism into high gear, helping you burn off fat even 24-48 hours after your last workout.

STRIKER KEVIN Lisbie says promotion from League One into the Championship was the great unsaid at the start of the season but with just 18 games to go, the players are starting to dream.

“I think we are a better team than them and whether or not it’s us or them that gets promotion is yet to be decided but I think we’re a better side and hopefully we can prove it throughout the whole of the season.”

Lisbie, 35, has scored 13 goals for the O’s this season, spearheading a potent and attacking Orient side that are on course to be promoted from League One into football’s second tier for the first time in 32 years.

Lisbie is on course to deliver his best goals tally since he joined the club. The Hackney-born player admitted that having a decent 20122013 season had set him and the whole team up for a positive campaign this year, pointing out that it was team success and not personal achievement that spurred him on.

Both Wolves and Brentford are a threat to the east London club’s ambitions, but Lisbie says his team are a better side than both.

He said: “Wolves and Brentford are big clubs so to be up there with them is great for us. We have a game in hand over both and they have to come here (Brisbane Road) and we haven’t lost to either of them so we have to consider

“I think we have just continued from last year if I’m honest. We kept the same team and added a few more players and that’s what has done the trick. It (promotion) wasn’t spoken about but as players we all want something to aspire towards and strive for.”

He added: “The manager has been really good for me. We talk quite a bit away from work and I have a good relationship with him.

“He brought me here on trial when I didn’t have a club and it’s gone from there, he’s a good man.”

Like fine wine, Lisbie has got better with age and if the currency of a striker is measured in goals, the latter stages of his career seem to be fairing significantly better than the early years. Having reached the 100th league goal milestone earlier this season, could it be that playing closer to home is bringing out the best in him?

He said: “Defintely. The training ground is five minutes from my house; the ground is five to ten minutes away from a lot of my family and friends so my form has to be down to being comfortable.”

He reflected: “I did have a dry patch after the 100th league goal but that was just in terms of me scoring, the team was still winning and I was still doing my bit to help.

“I’m not really fussed about my own goals targets, I’m not young and I am not looking for a move, I am more interested in success and getting promoted. I’ve been top goal scorer for the time I’ve been at the club and we haven’t done well. If it turns out that I am not top scorer this season and we get promoted I’ll take that every time.”

According to Lisbie, such an achievement would be an extraordinary feat.

“It would be massive for the club, especially with what’s going on down the road with West Ham and the Olympic stadium. We’d be in a position to attract more local players from my area Hackney and Tottenham, which would be a good thing.”

Kane is one of the hottest and fresh acts to emerge from the UK R&B scene. At only 18, he worked alongside some of the biggest UK and US acts including Ashanti. on the back of the release of his new single, Turn it Up 24/7 caught up with the rising star and this is what he had to say… wanted to do but i was always leaning towards something musical- be it making beats, production or write. At the start i didnt want to reveal this to my friends because at the time, they thought being a a singer? was ‘moist’ -But then I thought forget everyone else. Let me do what I want to do.

So I started doing vocal coaching at the around the age of 15. My grandad at that time was managing a couple of artists. he said to me when your ready come down and we’ll take you on. Then when I hit 16 I went along to work with my grandad it was there I met my producer Marcus beatz and started worked with him.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE MUSIC? I would say everyday life. My grandad, being around him and the music and seeing it all the time inspires. Seeing them up all night making tracks in the studio and the vibe they all have inspires me to want to do that. Artists like Usher inspire me too.

YOU HAVE BEEN COMPARED TO THE LIKES OF USHER AND TREY SONGZ, HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING COMPARED TO THESE GREAT ARTISTS? I think it’s mad - it’s crazy! because growing up listening to them, in particular Usher and listening to the quality of his songs and people are comparing me to him it’s like WOW! -I’m actually doing something that people are actually likingso it’s all good.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OVERALL SOUND? I wouldnt say I’ve identified my sound yet - I’ve only been doing this like a year now -to know what sound your doing it takes awhile. I think the more music i make will define my sound. I’m keeping the Uk element with a strong crossover appeal so everyone can relate. I have thought about going back to MC’in, Rapping maybe. I don’t know, just see how it goes. I don’t wanna confuse people.

IS IT MORE IMPORTANT TO STAY BRITISH WITHOUT THE US INFLUENCE? It’s good if you can cross with a bit of both but I like to keep my UK element because I used to do MC’in so when I do certain flows with my singing I try to do the MC’in flows with the singing so it gives it a little spice up.

FOR THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF? Origincally I’m from Tottenham. i’m a singer/songwriter and producer and I’ve been singing for about 3years.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET INTO MUSIC? I’ve always been into music from young, by the time i reached secondary i soon realised that I had strong vocal abilities. I was gassed my vocals were sounding good but when I got there- I dunno if I was nervous, but I had a feeling that my throat was gonna act up, my throats gonna act up. My vocal coach kept saying Kane don’t say that because you can actually just thinking about it mentally make your voice mess up. As soon as they said are you ready to go on my throat was feeling dry and I’m trying to drink as much water as I can. It was a good experience. Lady Leshurr was on before me but people was waiting for [Ashanti]. So when they said we got one more act and I heard the boos I was like... They didn’t even know who it was I was thinking like omg, but I had to block it all out- I got to do me and show who I am. So I went out there and performed my heart out.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT DOING MUSIC? I like everything, I like performing, being in the studio making up something new. Performing I enjoy as you are showing a different side of the song. I like doing interviews like this telling people how I feel about certain things. All of it is really a buzz for me. works -he said he likes to work with a brown Liquor- so we got like a bottle of Martel ...it was crazy because of the way he writes its like he freestyles. He was in the booth and he played the chords and he was in there singing the chords and he just came up with the song and the hook... And he was like, ‘Turn It Up.’ From then I just knew that it was going to be a strong song. It did sound a bit American so I thought it needed that UK thing. So i bought in Sneekbo. he came down did his bit and it sounded crazy and it went from there really.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH SNEAKBO? It was good. We both got that connection -we could both relate to each other being from [London] and the people that we are around plus he knows some of my peers very well.

THE VIDEO LOOKED LIKE FUN The video was tun up! It was crazy and a good a vibe.

We didn’t want to make it looked too staged, just people having fun.

IF YOU COULD GO ON A WITH ANY CELEBRITY WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO? It would have to me Meagan Good, we would go Paris and stay in a 5* hotel and then in the night we would go on a night time river.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? Just putting out more music and getting more shows. Putting out singles and hopefully this year my EP with all my tracks. And obviously getting myself out there more really.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE RESPONSE AND SUPPORT YOU BEEN GETTING FROM PEOPLE LIKE CHARLIE SLOTH AND SBTV? It’s been mad, especially Charlie because when I was doing school tours across the country last year I used to listen to Charlie Sloth on the long drives back home and i always wanted to to have my songs played on his show.

LAST YEAR YOU WAS IN AYIA NAPA WITH SOME BIG NAMES! WHAT WAS THAT LIKE? Ayia Napa was crazy! It was my first time going there especially as I turned 18 - it was like yeah, I’m out there.

A lot of the artist there were Angel, Dot Rotten, Fecky, Tinie Tempah, a couple of the Grime artists were out there. I got to meet with Angel and chilled with him in the clubs. It was a nice vibe. When I was on stage I was thinking is this really happening? i cant actually believe I’m here and I’m booked to do Napa again this year.

Although they made four films together and delighted audiences all over the world with their teamwork and legwork (dancing together was one of their most endearing and enduring charms for movie audiences) the friendship they enjoyed, both on screen and off, remained largely confined to their small world of make-believe and rarely extended to any society outside the studio walls in a racially divided America of the 1930s. To their credit, Shirley Temple and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, despite any society they found themselves in, remained good friends through to the end of Mr. Robinson’s life at age 71 in 1949.

By Dominique Leigertwood The 10th of February 2014 we said goodbye to one of the most memorable Hollywood child actresses of all time Shirley Jane Temple.

She was an important part of many a person’s childhood; her greatness surpassed her screen days by being an advocate of peace and good will. Her legacy will always live on.

Temple, known in private as Shirley Temple Black, died Monday February 10 at her home near San Francisco. She was surrounded by family members and caregivers Recognized as ‘Americas darling’ with her bright eyes and curly perfect blond ringlets’ she was easily the most popular and famous child star of the day. A talented and ultra-adorable entertainer, Shirley Temple was America’s top box-office draw from 1935 to 1938, a record no other child star has come near.

She had a string of hit films, most with sentimental themes and musical subplots. In the film Curly Top, she found fame with the hit songs Animal Crackers in My Soup and Stowaway, In which she was befriended by Robert Young, later of Father Knows Best fame.

She teamed with the great black dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson in two 1935 films with Civil War themes, The Little Colonel and The Littlest Rebel. Their tap dance up the steps in The Little Colonel (at a time when interracial teamings were unheard-of in Hollywood) became a landmark in the history of film dance.

She became the first white girl to appear on film dancing hand-in-hand with an AfricanAmerican man.

Shirley Temple enjoyed working with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Off camera and even sometimes on camera, she affectionately called him Uncle Billy.
