t’s no secret that Thailand is prone to drought. The 2016 summer issue of 24Life Magazine is addressing the problem of droughts regarded as one of the severest problems Thailand has encountered in past 20 years.

And this year is the driest on record. Media have tried to encouraged us to realize the significance of water consumption management.

Most water is used outside of the home—mainly to irrigate landscaping. Most of a person’s household water footprint can go toward lawn and garden maintenance. We can also apply the four Rs - Rethink, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle – to be a lifestyle for a sustainable future. We all can play a major role in solidifying eco -friendly tourism businesses in our own community by enhancing awareness of local people as well as of tourists a nd entrepreneurs. We all need to do our part to solve the drought—from saving water by changing our personal habits, to advocating for water efficiency reforms nationwide.

Thailand’s agricultural sector is affected by drastic drought the most, particularly a crops field cannot be done this year. We need to be more concerned about the impacts of drought on our everyday life though we are urban people. With low water levels in the country, activities such as boating, fishing, and island touring become more difficult --boats don’t float in dry rivers, and fish can’t survive if there isn’t any water. The impact of drought is seen not only in rivers or dams, but also in local economies as tourism revenues decline. This is because several difference businesses in the tourism industry also depend on water, including hotels and resorts, spas, swimming pools, golf courses, etc. Don’t you agree that it’s time for us to lead up to drought conditions, as they are often

town that spans 15 kilometers along Vietnam’s southern coast in the city of Phan Thiet, Vietnam. The Mui Ne Sand Dune is the only desert in Vietnam and in the Southeast Asian region. This vast terrain appears to be empty and dry territory at first glance. But after you’ve found yourself

familiar with this place, you may recognize that the Mui Ne Sand Dune can be regarded as the most exotic place in the region. There are two sand dunes you can easily access from Mui Ne, namely the Red Sand Dunes and the White Sand Dunes. The activities you should try here is sliding on the sand, running on motorcycles or ATVs, etc.

Province on the Mekong River in southern Laos, Kon Papeng are a series of cascading waterfalls crashing over countless rocks and boast thousands of islands and several waterways. Also, the falls are the largest in volume in Southeast Asia and home to a small group of rare Irrawaddy dolphins as well as the world’s largest fresh water fish called the pla-buek, a type of catfish that is on the endangered species list. It is recommended to visit the falls during the dry season, as the rainy season offers only very fast-flowing water with unrestrained aggression.

been appreciated by several generations for centuries. Angkor Wat is, one of the most popular temples, considered the biggest temple in the whole complex. It was built by King Suryavarman II with several layers over 200 feet high and features 2,600 feet of bas-reliefs. Like other temples in the complex, Angkor Wat was a place not for the worship of the kings but rather for the worship of god.

Some have compared it to the surface of the moon because of a continuous current of rock notched with 3,000 holes, which are called sam-phan-bok in Thailand’s northeastern or E-saan dialect. As a rock submerged during the rainy season long ago, that helps to polish and sculpt the cavities. Though it’s a bit difficult to reach this attraction in a distant corner of Ubon Ratchathani province, you’ll be amazed by this natural wonder and Mekong River scenery.

The Land of Active Volcano 活跃的火山土地

ocated on the “Ring of Fire”, Indonesia is home to 147 volcanoes, including 41 on Java alone. Surprisingly, around half of them are active volcanoes! Mount Bromo : As one of the most gigantic volcanoes on Java, Mount Bromo is known as the “Breathe of Java” since the volcano continues to “breath” out smokes high up into the atmosphere all the time! During its calm state, Bromo is the number one most visited volcano. The majestic volcano stands 2,329 meters tall above the Tenger Caldera, and despite being active, the weather is nice and cold all year. To witness its magnificence, catch a bus from Surabaya to Probolingo and you could stay at Lava View Lodge for the spectacular morning view of Mount Bromo.

Ijen Crater is one of a few volcanic sites on earth where you can witness Blue Flame firing up from underground with the temperature of 600 oC! Ijen is also an active sulfur mine, so don’t be surprised to see local miners. Sulfur Waterfall : Nestled in Ijen Crater not far from the park office, Sulfur Waterfall may look like an ordinary waterfall, but what makes it special is the yellowish green water and white foam. The water is high in sulfur generated from the volcano, making the landscape seem like a landscape of another planet!

Ijen Crater : From Mount Bromo in central Java, we fly to the edge of east Java to visit Ijen Crater. The size of Ijen is beyond anyone’s imagination, and you would definitely understand how extraordinary nature is and how insignificant we are once you reach the top of Ijen! Hiking up takes around 3-4 hours to reach the mouth of the volcano with huge emerald green lake in the center.

Coffee Farms : The Dutch planted coffee trees around Ijen since the colonial era and coffee has since prospered wonderfully here on rich volcanic soil. Some farms offer homestay service and it’s a great place to learn local lifestyle.

Besides rare handicrafts and unique food, Kemiran Village is also known for its world-famous Coffee Luwak (or Kopi Luwak). History said that, in 1830-1870, the Dutch colonized Java and began cultivating coffee. Native labours were not allowed to consume what they produced. However, they saw civets eating coffee cherries and had indigested coffee beans in their feces. The workers collected these beans, cleaned them, dried them before roasting them and turned them into a beautiful cup of coffee, even more aromatic and delicious than normal coffee! Coffee Luwak is now a renowned product sold around the world at an unbelievable price.

What do you want your golf fans and other people to know about you and your playing career? A: (sarcastically) Yeah, if I could remember my playing career. It was 30 years ago! That’s the problem. (laughs) No, honestly, it’s really nice because a lot of people come back and tell me that they’ve watched me play and watched me win, and although they’ve moved on with their lives, they still love golf. I’ve got a family now as well, and still I bump into a lot of people these days. Not only do they give me nice compliments but I also find it very touching how they made an effort to come watch me play golf 30 years ago. I’ve also been on TV as an analyst for 12 years now, and they enjoy my work on television, as well. So, it’s very nice. What inspired you the most to become a professional golfer? A: Well I was a sportsman looking for a sport. As a swimmer, doing three miles in a pool is eventually no fun. Cycling, you know they say you have to ride till you throw up. Great, that’s no fun. (laughs) And with team sports, you could play great and lose, or lousy and you’re not part of it. So, I was looking for an individual sport. Once, I tried a little bit of tennis and I was told I was too tall. But, as far as golf goes, I think it was the practice. The fact you could go down there and be totally engrossed in what you were doing for the whole day. I could tip a couple of balls out at 8 o’clock in the morning and come home at 8 o’clock at night. I did this 9 out of 10 days and I was totally happy with it.

As you’ve teed it up at several great golf courses, what were some of your favorites? And do you have your all-time favorite golf course at the moment? A: Well, we are so lucky in golf. We’ve got so many different stops everywhere. I’ve played great courses in America obviously, and Australia- the Sandbelt, Melbourne, and Kingston SE. All those courses are great because they’re all so different. Many clubs around the world have great golf courses as well. I guess my number one favorite would be a Lynx golf course, probably Saint Andrews, on a nice, sunny, breezy day and you can get the ball to bounce how you want it to bounce. That’s pretty fun. How’s your lifestyle? Are there any leisure activities you like to do apart from playing golf? A: I fish. Specifically I like to fly fish. I still do it but I need to do it more. I used to do a lot of trout fishing down in England. I’d go to build up my inner sanctum just to really disappear and be on my own. I would love to get out to Montana, or maybe New Zealand, to fish. Where do you/ would you really like to spend your holiday and why? A: Well, I enjoy spending my holidays here, and I’m also beginning to like Montana because I love the views, the scenery, and of course the fishing. That’s about it because that’s all I have time for.

您参加过这么多的高尔夫球赛，哪些是您最喜欢的？而且您有你一直最喜爱的高尔夫球赛事吗？嗯。我们打高尔夫是多么的幸运啊！我们有太多站的比赛了。很显然我在美国打的赛事就很好，澳大利亚墨尔本的沙带和金士顿的SE。这些赛事和其他的赛事太不同了，当然世界上其他的俱乐部的赛事也很不错的。我想我最喜欢的应该是圣安德鲁斯的山猫高尔夫球赛事吧。在一个阳光明媚，微风徐来的一天，你可以让球想怎么进就怎么进。这真的是太棒了。您平时的生活方式是什么样的？在不打高尔夫球的时候您有什么休闲活动吗？钓鱼吧。我特别喜欢钓鱼。我一直在钓，应该要钓的更多吧。我之前在英国钓过很多鳟鱼。我想钓鱼建立起我自己的心灵圣地吧。我想到蒙大拿，或者新西兰去钓鱼。您最想到哪里去度过您的假期？为什么？嗯。我喜欢在这里度过我的假期，我也逐渐开始喜欢蒙大拿，因为我喜欢这里的风景，人情，当然还有钓鱼啦，这是我想把时间都花在上面的东西。

Please tell us a bit about the awards that you’ve won. A: Well the best one was from the Sun Newspaper. I won the Hunk of the Month. I was sitting with my top off, in my jeans and my skinny little chest. (laughs) In all seriousness though, winning tournaments is factual, and winning awards is more subjective. Background Khun Monrudee was born in Bangkok and graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. She began her career in the aviation sector of a security department, where she soon moved up to the position of public relations manager. She moved to administration management where she helped the Airport of Thailand become a company. She eventually found herself in the Foreign Affairs department (Out Bound - In Bound) in 2015, a position she thought she would stay in until retirement. But as fate may have it, she was drawn far away from her home all the way to Phuket, a coastal city where new airport users awaited. As the new director of Phuket International Airport (in 2015) she not only had the challenge of adjusting to a new airport, but also being one of six female directors in the airports of Thailand. *Upon a new contract guarantee, she was promoted from director to general manager of the airport. 背景 Monrudee女士出生在曼谷，并从朱拉隆功大学艺术系毕业。她的职业生涯从航空安全部门开始，然后在那里晋升到公关经理职位。自从泰国机场公司化后，她晋升到管理层。直到2015年，她以为自己会留在现在的出入境的管理职位一直到退休。但命运可能另有安排，她被调到远离家乡很远的沿海城市普吉岛，一个让游客期待的新机场。她不仅面对着掌控新机场的挑战，同时她也是6位泰国机场女主管之一。

Getting my test license to become the general manager of a public airport. The airport planed to deliver a certificate on January 14, 2015. When an airport has a certificate, the person who looks after the airport must have a license as well. Normally, it takes the average person several months for studying and multiple times for testing, however, for me, I had very little time and only one chance to pass the test before the airport’s flight testing on January 9. I had one opportunity and I was very proud that I was able to accomplish this.

I plan to visit Europe and have a limitless amount of time to spend there. I want to recharge myself after working so hard for almost my entire life. Because I am so driven and I like to work hard, I was given a nickname, Mondi 24/7, which means working 24 hours, 7 days a week. However, I have the attitude to look at work like food- after I finish eating, I will feel full, and when I’m full it means I have recharged my work life.

‘All problems can be solved’ is a philosophy of life that can always be used. I believe that when a problem is fixed, everything will get better. At work, I want everyone to be happy so I do my best to acknowledge all problems that arise from any of my staff members. Everyone is able to contact me directly and I make my staff feel that I’m easily approachable. Then, when I know the problem, I find a way to fix it. As a result, all employees in the airport work happily and without worry. I always believe that every single problem can be solved. Sometimes it depends on the period of time or the way you fix it, but if you don’t give up, it will always work.

退休计划生活中最令人印象深刻的事在拿到我成为新机场总经理的测试成绩时。该机场的许可证在2015年1月14日交付，同时在交付许可证的机场的运营人都要同时具备相应的资质。通常情况下，普通人需要几个月的时间来学习和通过测试，但是对于我来说只有很短的时间来学习，并且只有一次机会，在1月9日通过测试。这次机会让我感到很骄傲，因为我通过了测试。

我计划到欧洲旅行，并且有无尽的时间耗在那里。我希望能给自己好好放松的机会，因为我一生基本都把时间消耗在了工作上。我很努力的工作，因此我得了一个绰号叫Mondi 24/7，意味着我一周7天，每天24个小时都在工作。同时我对工作的态度就像食物一样，每次用餐完后都会觉得很饱，这也意味着我在工作时间得到了“充电”。
