hailand is probably the best set up country in Southeast Asia for family vacations. It has an incredible diversity when it comes to geography, so whether you and your family want a sun-soaked beach vacation or a holidays in the hills, there’s something for everyone. However, the thing that really sets Thailand apart is that it’s generally extremely safe, and that’s a concern every parent shares. Many hotels these days offer specialized kids’ clubs, as well as babysitting services and other play facilities, and Thailand is no exception. But there’s plenty to do outside the confines of your hotel, and zoos and aquariums are sure bets for entertaining children. You also can’t go wrong visiting amusement parks and water parks, and Thailand has some of the best in this part of the world. And even when the weather doesn't cooperate there are still plenty of indoor activities to choose from as well, including wacky museums, game arcades, and fascinating arts and crafts workshops.

But parents should also take the opportunity to expose their children to Thailand’s local culture and food. Visiting temples, palaces, ancient cities, and other historical landmarks is a great introduction to Thai culture, just be sure to keep everyone hydrated, well fed, and rested along the way. Some parents even enroll with their kids in Thai cooking classes, which is a delicious and delightful family bonding experience. In this cover story feature we focus on the best family-friendly attractions in four of Thailand’s premier vacation spots. Kids love the beach, so three of the four featured destinations offer plenty of sun and sand. Hua Hin is a great spot for travelers looking for something close to Bangkok, Koh Samui offers the seclusion and safety of an island getaway, while Phuket is large enough to offer a bit of everything. However, many families are attracted to the slow life pace and natural beauty of Chiang Mai, where elephant camps, river rafting, and mountain excursions are all close at hand.
