our lay leaders and staff, but he has been a mentor to three generations of middle and senior highs, and has made a determined effort to keep up with our college students and recent graduates. I think it is safe to say that few people of this generation have had a greater impact on the youth and young adults of the Moravian Church
ohn Rights preached his last sermon at NPMC prior to his move to Kernersville Moravian Church on Sunday, June 22. During the Sunday School hour on Sunday, June 29, we will have a reception for John, Brandi, and Matthew. We will meet in the Banquet Room. John will take up his duties as the pastor of Kernersville Moravian Church on or about the 1st Sunday in August. Please be in prayer for John and his family as they make this move. And be in prayer for New Philadelphia as we seek to replace a true servant of the Gospel and friend to many. For my part it has been a pleasure to work alongside John for more than a decade. I will miss his good humor, his repore, and his wise counsel. Not only has John been a great pastor, and a good partner with
Pastor John Writes: It is with both joy and sadness that I conclude my time as Associate Pastor at New Philadelphia at the end of June. While I look forward to serving as Pastor of Kernersville Moravian Church, beginning in August, I know that I have been immensely blessed to serve among you since 2003. It has been an honor and a privilege for me, and I offer my sincere gratitude for letting me be a part of your lives during these years. Being a part of the church where my mother grew up has had a special meaning for me. New Philadelphia is the church where my father met my mother when he served as a student intern in 1960, and their wedding was the first service in the new sanctuary in September of 1963. It has been my joy to witness eleven years of ministry in our youth program, seeing so many enthusiastic and faithful young people during their
that the Rev. John G. Rights. John is going on to a great new challenge. Kernersville Moravian is and will continue to be one of the great churches in our Unity, and I hope and pray the congregation there will enjoy the same partnership in the Gospel with John and his family that we have. Blessings, Pastor Green growth from middle school, to high school, to college, and beyond. From my time with youth and adults of all ages, from Bible studies to mission trips, from weddings to funerals, from Sunday School lessons to hospital visits, it's been an incredible experience. There are not enough words to thank you for the encouragement, support, and love you have given to me, and to my family, during these years. I'll leave you with the benediction I've used at the conclusion of many worship services: May Jesus Christ our Lord be near us to defend us, within us to refresh us, beside us to guide us, behind us to justify us, and above us to bless us; the One who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, God forevermore. Amen. Peace to you, The Rev. John G. Rights

Lamb Tales
(Please notify the church office if there is a change in residence)
Sherry recently lost an adult son to a tragic workrelated accident. A friend, hearing of Sherry’s loss, presented her with a lamb from New Philadelphia’s Lamb Ministry. In a thank you note, Sherry wrote these words: “Thank you so much for the lamb. I may have looked surprised when I saw it. My son gave me a lamb similar to this one years ago and I lost it. “Sherry went on to express that the lamb “reminds me of my precious Chris.” Do you know someone struggling or experiencing a difficult situation? Remember our little lambs and the comfort they can bring. The lambs are available through the church office, or by contacting Clyde Manning (clyde@newphilly.org or 336-765-2331 ext 307)

Missions Committee News
We have several in our congregation traveling on mission trips in July. We ask that you keep the youth and their chaperones in your prayers for their mission trip to Jamaica. Haley Geis, Tom Welborne, and Phil and Jane Wynne will be traveling to Bethel, Alaska to work on the seminary there and conduct Bible school. Please pray for safe travels and may God’s work be glorified in all their efforts. Also our middle school youth will be attending Laurel Ridge Mission Camp in July. Thank all of you for your continued support of our youth and missions at NPMC. It is important to keep active in missions, local or abroad, because our denomination was founded on missions. Not everyone wishes to travel, but remember, missions is next door, at work, play and anyone you come in contact with. Pray that God will guide us all to spread His Word. We all have gifts to share! Monies dispersed in June: • $500 Allen Iobst • $1000Youth exchange(Jamaica/NPMC) • $670 Kevin and Charity Manous • $1847.50 Youth Laurel Ridge Mission Camp • $4500 Youth Mission trip to Jamaica. We understand that personal economics are not the best at this time, so we very much appreciate your continued financial support. Our funds are at an all time low in missions, but we feel God will provide for His work to be done. Keep all our missionaries in your prayers. Some are putting their lives at risk daily and they need our prayer support. Our next meeting is July 13, 5PM in the Banquet Room. Please come !
Safe Sanctuary: FAQs
We’ve had a variety of worthwhile questions come up as we’ve introduced our Safe Sanctuary Policy. This month we wanted to offer answers to several of these questions. 1 - Does everyone who attends our church have to have a drug screen and a background check? Of course not. Only adults who are regularly in leadership roles with children and youth are expected to do this. These are the adults who routinely
Page 5
interact with children without their parents or other supervising adults present. 2 - Do all VBS volunteers or volunteers at other children and youth events (like the Easter Egg Hunt) require this screening? No. While it is helpful to have everyone go through this screening, not all volunteer roles require it. We have defined an adult volunteer in a leadership position to be any volunteer who teaches, supervises or counsels children/youth on a regular basis or an overnight event. Volunteers who guide children with crafts and activities while parents or other supervising adults are present, are not required to go through the full screening process. 3 - How long is the drug screening and background check valid? 5 years. The Provincial Office will keep the results of these checks on file confidentially. Volunteers will be asked to renew these checks after 5 years have elapsed. 4 - Why are we doing these screenings through the Southern Province of the Moravian Church? The Provincial Office already maintains records of this nature for all persons employed in any congregations and agencies, so they already have the infrastructure in place to support us in this process. The Provincial Office has also been the agency maintaining records for all volunteers who work with Laurel Ridge, our camp and conference center, for the past 10 years. 5 - How can we interact with the children and youth at our church? In the same ways that you always have! This policy is about helping those with the closest and most regular interactions with children and youth to be mindful of the ways they are present and interacting with young people. For everyone else, speak to our children and youth, ask them about their lives, be encouraging of them and curious about them. Always let parents be your guide to what their child might appreciate! 6 - Will those who pass the background check and drug screen be notified? Yes, because the most important step in this entire process is really the training that follows. Once we’ve gotten approval for a group of volunteers, Christy Clore or one of our youth leaders, Ross McNeil or Daniel Muto, will follow up with information about an upcoming training opportunity for you. These are held on-site or may be completed online depending on the role and situation.
