New Philly News - June/July 2017 Monthly Newsletter from New Philadelphia Moravian Church

Across the Pastor’s Desk I am excited by the possibilities associated with the Farmer’s Market. I like fresh fruits and vegetables. For me, no trip to the beach is complete without a stop to shop for the produce o be consumed on the trip. I love roadside stands, and any Farmer’s market in any town is an immediate attraction. What are your favorites? Where vegetables are concerned, I like onions and tomatoes best, but not necessarily in that order. I know that tomatoes are officially a fruit, but I seldom see anyone eating one like an apple. I like tomatoes best in salads, and on sandwiches. My Uncle Bill thought the perfect lunch was sliced tomatoes and Duke’s mayonnaise on whitebread. I love onions raw, or sautéed, and I have been known to go through a large sack of Vadalia onions in pretty short order. I hope that people will bring watermelons, apples, peaches and apples and the like to our Farmer’s Market along with their vegetables. As I write this I am reminded of a white peach, grown only in eastern North Carolina that I discovered at a Farmer’s Market on the square at Carolina Beach. It was delicious! I am told that the possibilities for our Farmer’s Market are endless, not just for variety of produce, but for the opportunities for meeting and making new friends. Perhaps we will greet one another one evening as we try to eat a peach without making too much mess. It maybe that someone we least expect will discover New Philadelphia as a result of this new undertaking. I pray that God will bless it. The Pastor
