New Philadelphia News Recapturing the Reverence in the Resurrection Service Traditionally, the Resurrection Service, which takes place after Easter Worship in the sanctuary, began with the pastor reading the Easter Morning Liturgy from the balcony that overlooks the front entrance to the Church. At the conclusion of that portion of the liturgy, the pastor came down, and followed the band to God’s Acre. All worshipers, including the choir, followed the pastor, and all non-essential communication was kept to a minimum. A Silent Procession was the goal. Of course, that was before we built so many buildings, and created so many different ways of leaving the church, and entering the graveyard. Over the years, the movement to the graveyard lost all form. People were understandably eager to take up a position near the graves of their loved ones, and they moved quickly to do so. It was still a great service; but many of us felt it was once even better, more reverent, more moving, a conscious deliberate act of corporate worship. This year we would like to recreate the experience of years in the not too distant past. This year our Ushers will try to channel all worshipers into this procession to pass through the main entrance to God’s Acre: Band, Pastor, Choir, and then the Congregation. We would like to give the band time to process to the graveyard, and start playing antiphonaly, and we would like to have the pastor who is conducting the service lead everyone except the band through the Main Gate of God’s Acre. People who have special needs, especially those in wheel chairs will be admitted through the other gates, and once the band, pastor, and choir is in place, the other gates will be opened to everyone. We will need extra ushers to accomplish our goal. If you are willing to help, please contact Fred Flynt (fflynt@triad.rr.com), or Dick Rodden (richardrodden@hotmail.com). So, too, if you attend Easter Worship, and are not
staying for the Resurrection Service, it would help if you park in the east lot (on the Preschool/Office Wing side of the church), or off campus, in one of the adjacent office parking lots. Otherwise, you may be asked to sit in your car until the processional passes. We think this return to a more structured and orderly Resurrection Service will add immensely to this wonderful act of corporate worship. We trust it is not an inconvenience to the congregation; but a blessing, and we hope that everyone who reads this will understand and appreciate our effort.

Missions and Social Concerns The Rev. Dennis Caudle who is a chaplain and minister in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living centers made a presentation on his ministry. He serves under the umbrella of Greener Pastures Ministries. Greener Pastures for Senior’s was started by Teresa Wilhelm in 2001. She first saw a need for doctors and nurses to visit seniors in their homes or senior living centers. She partnered with Physicians Home Visits, located on Trenwest Drive. The home church for Greener Pastures is Grace Baptist Church in WinstonSalem. Services rendered by Physicians Home Visits are typically paid for through Medicare & Medicaid services of which pastoral care is not included. In operating this service, Teresa Wilhelm found a need for spiritual support for the seniors. Patients using the doctors and nurses are referred to the chaplains, of which they may or may not have a home church. Physicians Home Visits serves 1500 – 1600 patients in Forsyth and Guilford counties. Rev. Caudle currently has 12 clients in 5 nursing homes; 3 are in Forsyth County, 2 are in Guilford (Greensboro). Rev. Caudle started with the Greener Pastures organization in June 2015. He currently receives 10% of his funding goal. With his current donations, he works 10 – 15 hours per week. He was seeking financial support from the Missions Committee but due to other funding priorities we decided not to fund his ministry at this time. Meeting and speaker schedule set through April: 1. Troop 715 Scribe Report As the new year is getting going, scouts in Troop 715 are bearing down with merit badges and rank advancements. This month we held a Court of Honor. There were many badges and ranks earned, including a few upper-level ranks. It is exciting to see the newer scouts making headway and preparing for this year’s summer camp at Raven Knob. Scouts elected into new leadership positions took over in January, and are getting ready for the Weblos Scouts that will be joining the Troop in March. We had a great time on our Klondike Derby trip in January. It happened to be snowing while we were there, which made the “Scout Skills” activities even more challenging. We competed against scouts from other troops in events like knot-tying, blind-folded tent setup, and cooking. We dragged our supplies from one station to the next on wooden sleds, so the snow gave us an advantage in that aspect. Our February trip was going to be a nighttime ski trip to Appalachian Ski Mountain. With School picking up for the spring semester, only 12 boys were available to go, and we needed 15 to get the group rate, so sadly, that trip was called off. In March, we will be camping at a state park near Wrightsville Beach. We look forward to camping, fishing, and seeing the ocean. Other upcoming events include our troop BBQ fundraiser, where we look forward to seeing and serving you!

finalizing a group to go to Bethel, Alaska to lead vacation bible school for the youth of the area. This will be a great opportunity for the youth to learn, teach and witness to others. We will be heading up several fundraisers coming up over the spring so a preemptive "THANK YOU" is due to the congregation for all they do for our youth program. Our next fundraiser will be on the morning of Saturday, March 26 in the fellowship hall where we will be providing breakfast and lunch for the Easter Egg Hunt. We hope to see everyone there! - Ross McNeil
Funtastics Events A hearty hello to everyone from the New Philadelphia Youth Committee. It looks like 2016 is setting up to be yet another busy year for the New Philadelphia Youth. In addition to our normal programming (service projects, fundraising and meetings) we have added a trip for the middle high youth (more details below). I have had the first hand opportunity to attend several youth events over the past 3-4 months and have been absolutely impressed with the attitude, focus and kindness that our youth exhibit during these outings. They represent Christ and New Philadelphia in an amazing way and each parent should be very proud that their hard work and dedication is paying off in a large way. The Middle High Youth have been having fun enjoying winter activities such as ice skating and skiing. As the spring gears up, we are getting ready for a fundraiser to help support our summer mission trip to Washington DC. While in DC, we have a number of volunteering opportunities planned and look forward to serving the community. – Erin Key The Senior High Youth are continuing to grow and become focused. At the end of January we had 12 youth travel to Winterplace, WV for the weekend. The weekend was filled with devotion, fellowship and of course, skiing. All of the youth prepared their own devotions and presented them to each other. We are enjoying our Lenten programing that is held at 4pm in the youth building during Lent. Looking to the future we are in the final stages of
