New Philadelphia News The Connections Ministry committee is excited to announce the selection of a new logo for New Philadelphia. The congregation has selected the logo pictured here and we appreciate the input from many members. This logo will be used on brochures, signs, flyers and web media to help identify NPMC information and make it easily recognizable to visitors and guests.
You may have noticed a new addition in the church vestibule. Many thanks to Jerry Bumgardner who built our new visitor information kiosk. This kiosk on wheels will be used on Sunday mornings in the vestibule to help aid our visitors with the many offerings at NPMC. Additionally, we will be able to wheel the kiosk to the lobby of the Fellowship Hall and other places around the church for special events. Our committee is working on creating and updating additional brochures about the various outreaches and

years of service Donna Cartner is ringing down the curtain as our handbell director. A search committee has been formed to seek a new leader. The search will include the normal sources but if you know of someone who might be interested in the position please contact Steve Gray. groups at our church. If you would like one developed for your group or committee, please let us know! Planning to bring a neighbor or friend to church with you on Sunday? Please invite them to join us for our Hospitality Coffee in the church parlor after 1st service. If you notice a guest on your pew, we’d love for you to introduce yourself and invite them to the coffee as well. Clyde Manning, our Connections Ministry Coordinator, hosts this coffee each Sunday and we usually have several other members present to greet guests.
Our committee’s other big project is working on improving the directional signage in our church parking lots and campus building signage. We feel that improvements in this area will greatly aid our visitors and guests in getting around our church campus. The Connections Ministry Committee meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the church conference room. We’d love to have you join us! If you have any suggestions or ideas, you can either talk with Clyde Manning or email Tara Pitts, committee chair, at tara@sassafraspaper.com can email Rachel (rachel@newphilly.org), complete an online form www.newphilly.org/graduates-recognition or call the church office by the May 18 deadline.
A tAste of god’s love In Lost in Wonder, Love and Praise (Abingdon Press), John Killinger describes a mother’s love — and how it offers a tiny foretaste of God’s love: “It is stronger than steel, softer than down and more resilient than a green sapling on the hillside. It closes wounds, melts disappointments and enables the weakest child to stand tall and straight in the fields of adversity. I believe that this love, even at its best, is only a shadow of the love of God, a dark reflection of all that we can expect of him, both in this life and the next.”

Missions and Social Concerns
Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention: Ava Troxler gave a presentation on the Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention (CDAP). CDAP began in 1989 after a task force founded and headed by then Winston-Salem Police Chief George Sweat. The program has expanded since being founded to reflect the community being served. Members included representatives from many area agencies and organizations involved in alcohol and drug abuse prevention, intervention and treatment. CDAP serves our community in the following ways: 1. Provide assistance to neighborhoods to build skills to prevent alcohol and drug problems at the grass root level. They also service low income areas. 2. They serve as a resource center for materials and information. Also, as a referral service to area for prevention and treatment. 3. They conduct awareness campaigns such as the Red Ribbon Week Campaign which takes place in October and promotes drug free youth. The Promise Tree Project runs from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day. Displays with trees are put throughout the community with star ornaments to be signed as a promise to celebrate safely and legally. 4. Prevention education – the coalition provides information to members to bring them the most current information in prevention. Education prevention is also included in monthly meetings and emails 5. Partnership – The coalition promotes and coordinates partnerships among local organizations and individuals to maximize resources and efficiently implement prevention activities. One of the core educational areas of the coalition is the effects of alcohol and drugs on a young brains (25 years and younger). Young brains are not fully developed and as such have a greater chance of developing dependency. As you are going through your decorations during this season, please keep this in mind and perhaps start a collection box for items you would like to donate to this sale. We will be accepting these items a week before the sale next year. It will be a great way to de-clutter while helping Women’s Fellowship support some great causes.

Women’s Bible Study A new Women's 7-Week Bible Study-The Armour of God by Priscilla Shirer starts Monday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. in Banquet Room and Thursday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bona Vita Classroom. Please contact Grace Shutt at gvshutt@gmail. com or 765-4506 if you would like to sign-up All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you. The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer's inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory.

Senior High Update The senior high youth have been working hard fundraising for our upcoming trip to Alaska. We will be traveling to Bethel, Alaska as a group and then splitting into teams to lead vacation bible schools for different villages in the surround area. We are really excited about the trip and know that it will be a memorable experience. We pray that God will allow us to work hard to spread his word and hope to everyone we meet. We also pray that he will open our hearts and minds so that we may grow from the experience as well. We will be having Sam Gray lead mission training for us to help us prepare for this trip. We have also been working closely with Helen Gulledge to help us plan our trip!
Thank you to everyone in the congregation who continually supports our youth and allows them to have new experiences that help them grow! We would not be what we are without such a strong congregation supporting us! Ross McNeil NPMC Senior High Youth Leader
