木·作·家 is the exhibition of the achievements of the School of Wood-Art Alliance. It gathers like-minded wooders from the 15+1 schools and uses the knowledge to convert wood into dazzling wood works. Resources, integrate traditional and modern skills, bring wood into life, build a palace of wooders, inherit the value of wood skills, form a "connected. co-creation" platform, and achieve the "technical. art. academic" three-in-one goal. 4

Design Prospect The visual represents the creation process of wooders, with three blocks respectively from thinking to producting, and to delivering. And connecting each block with the longest-developed furniture of the Chinese nation, the stool. The small card on the upper left is a small punching event in the exhibition, which compares the small wooden blocks to flowers and makes a bouquet, conveying the information of punching in and changing the wooden bouquet.

For promoting the design and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Japan, Wood Art Center intents to conduct this workshop and invite representatives from the Taiwan Wood Art Alliance and Kyushu University from Japan to participate. The aim of the workshop is to share experiences of different countries, break through the boundaries of thinking, encourage the participants to know and learn from each other, and generate new ideas of design. After the workshop, Taipei Tech will also produce outstanding designs, and exhibit them in the exhibition of the Wooden Talent Training Program in November this year to demonstrate the outcome of the workshop. 6

Design Prospect Furniture has been part of human culture since ancient times. There is an old saying, "walking, living, sitting, lying" are all profound subjects. The seat, is the most commonly used and dependent furniture in our daily life. Among them, the stool is the earliest developed seat of Chinese culture. From a simple stool, we can understand the life style of different cultures, and also learn the cultural connotations. Therefore, the design workshop will integrate the culture and lifestyle of different regions, with the theme of "seat", and we like to invite the students from the three areas to share their local stories, also visit Taiwan's local culture to understand the life styles of different regions, and understand the characteristics of the woods in Taiwan. Following, in-depth study of the needs of certain lifestyle groups to carry out the design of the seat, and use Taiwan’s wood as a carrier to show the new state of the seat.

Product Design

The four-day workshop started with the cultural journey, by visiting and introducing local culture, specialty stores, furniture development and furniture system manufacturing. In order to promote the mutual familiarity between the students of Taiwan and Japan, we have designed a group tour that uses the designer's language, the brush, to avoid the aliention caused by language or first meeting.

相思杉姍 Product type / stationery Year / 2018 Co-designer / Tien-li Chen, Po-hsun Lai, Xiang-yun Chen Exhibited at Taipei Botanical Garden from 2018-6-1 to 7-15 In this work and the next one we used a special wood, Taiwania. Taiwania, called "wa driwru ki Dramare Ka angatu" by Rukia, which means "the Tree that hits the moon" and represents its towering and straight image. In addition, it has colorful wood grain, numerous knot, clearly differentiated between sapwood and heartwood. Because of outstanding uniqueness, we treat Taiwania as a treasure of Taiwan in our works. 11

Product Design

Project A

Inlaid Taiwania in Acacia, just like the moon hanged up on the sky, trough this way, the unique beauty appears particularly prominent.

The Plates are designed to put snacks such as cakes, chips, sushi and so on. The plates are three in a set and can be stacked or placed in different way. In addition, the beauty of Taiwania can make food look more delicious. People can have a visual feast while enjoying the food. 12

Project B

Under the calm and steady Acacia packaging, the exposed Taiwania's grain appears particularly dazzling. If take in every detail of the stacked boxes' wood grain, you will find that it is like the cross-section of the Taiwania. Moreover, the joints of the box are are "Comb-shaped Mortise", leaving the special code.

The boxes can not only contain stationery, but can be assembled into a set of flower arrangements as decorations on the table. 13

Product Introduction

來!作伙收 A Helper for Recycler Product type / work aids Year / 2017 Co-designer / Yunyan Zong, Pinchien Huang, Ssuyun Huang For more information on the project, please go to page 23 to link the videos!

The rhythm rises, the battle starts. Residents crowding in front of the recycling truck to get rid of their garbage. The recyclers bend down to take uncountable bags of garbage, standing beside them in the narrow space of the truck. Sweat dripping down, they move to the next stop perpetually. They’re fighting against not only the time, but also the harsh working environment. Being designers, as well as parts of the residents, it’s our turn to make a change. 14

Design Prospect This project is for helping the recyclers decrease the times of some repetitious movements and simplify the workflow to avoid the danger and burden while working, making a better workspace.

Design Process Objective | We choose East District of Tainan City as the target to do our researches, trying to improve the recyclers’ working environments and decrease occupational injury and risk under the current recycling regulations and limits of the recycling truck's structure. Insight | After visiting the recyclers and observing how they work, we found out that they have to stand nearly five hours, repeating bending and twisting their waists while taking the garbage, which will cause a long-term occupational injury. Even worse, cramped space, limited time, and being hit by the garbage thrown by residents, such things would not merely bring physical damages, but lead to stress and negative emotions.

15

Product Design Analysis | In order to reduce recyclers loading and danger, we analyzed the researches and organized to know more about their work.

Design Features Concept | We hope that this project can change the working environment of recyclers and people’s recycling habits, creating a friendly, interactive mode for both sides under the current recycling regulations and equipments. 16

Effort-saving to unload

Four Cores | In the working environment with this product, recyclers can reach things at an arm's distance - with a body support at bottom, as well as less angle to turn their bodies as they throw the recycling. Moreover, with four major specialities - Diversion, Protection, Quick Installation, and effort-saving to unload , we create a friendly working space for recyclers.

Recycling Area | Based on the space of current recycling trucks. Considering of the main working area of recyclers, the space reserved for the large amount of the piling-up recycling materials, and the order when unloading the materials in the recycling station, we set our product at the back of the truck. <Mix-Area> People put mix-recycling on the platform, so the recyclers don't have to fetch each bag of garbage from people in hurry, and it also makes this action easier. In addition, there is a support holding the weight of the recycling stuffs which makes the job much safer.

<Glass-Area> The glass recycling is done by people by leaving them in the small bag at temporary zone, and then redistributing by the recyclers from the small bag to the big bag according to the condition. The glass bag is designed L-shaped. It saves lots of strength by landing with this L's bottom during dumping.

<Styrofoam-Area> Classified by the people. It is attached to the glass shelf, recyclers can open the bag with the Glass-Area. The bag has a corresponding color block with the bracket to facilitate and install.

<Blub & Lamp-Area> Divided into lamps and bulbs, sorted by people, inside the bag there's a buffering mechanism to protect the lights from breaking. Both share the same Each Recycling Area

way to install and unloaded. 17
