COLLISION MANAGEMENT TRAINING FROM FORS Great strides have been made in the logistics and transport sectors when it comes to vehicle safety and driver training. However, Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) can and do still occur, so having up-to-date procedures in place to adequately monitor, analyse and prevent such collisions should always be high up on the management agenda. As we move towards the summer and an expected return to pre-pandemic activity, now is the time for a renewed focus on reducing potential incidents, lowering future insurance costs, and ensuring duty of care compliance. FORS members keen to ensure they have robust procedures in place with respect to such potential incidents can complete the FORS Professional Collision Management training. This comprehensive course is designed to train delegates on road risk management and collision investigation. For those wishing to progress to Silver – the second level of the FORS progressive scheme – attending the course will meet the mandatory professional development requirement set out for the Road Risk Champion. The course is delivered remotely in the form of two online sessions,

each lasting two hours, and led by a highly experienced trainer. FORS members are able to access the free FORS Professional Collision Management Toolkit for additional content. The toolkit sets out a framework for collision management that shows how an organisation can develop a collision management policy, as well as processes and procedures. The toolkit also looks at other ways of reducing collision incidence through incentive schemes and the use of technology. The course content is also supplemented by two free eLearning modules lasting 20 minutes each.
Road Risk Champion The path to achieving the role of Road Risk Champion requires managers to learn how to develop company road traffic collision management policies
and procedures, and how to implement them. The course will also teach members how to record and analyse road traffic collision data, identify trends and develop initiatives to help manage risk. Of course, collision management is about more than just data analysis. Managers need to understand how to instil best practice within their organisation and minimise risk. They also need to develop and provide reports to help monitor their fleet’s performance and keep senior management informed. These subjects are covered in detail as part of the training.
Collision Investigator The second key element of the FORS Professional Collision Management training is developing members’ skills as collision investigators. This aspect of the course entails understanding the moral, legal
and economic implications of collision management, as well as learning how to properly investigate RTCs and incidents. Managers will also gain essential skills in conducting causal analysis of RTCs and recommending remedial actions to prevent re-occurrence. The FORS Professional Collision Management training course is available to FORS members at a discounted rate of £50 + VAT, and attending the course is worth 10 CPD hours.
