MANITOU LAUNCH NEW PRODUCTS AT GLOBAL ‘BUILD THE FUTURE’ EVENT

Manitou recently launched no less than 25 new construction machines during its BUILD THE FUTURE virtual online event which was broadcast worldwide.

The new products range from compact fixed and ultra-compact telehandlers, as well as new articulated loaders, while there has been a complete overhaul and extension of its range of rotating telehandlers. Accessible via an interactive platform, the event brought together more than 3,000 internet users in 90 countries across four continents, including many dealers, rentals, key accounts and media. Over the course of two days, visitors were able to remotely discover, through a talk show, three new segments in the construction and MRT rotating telehandler range, followed by workshops showcasing the group’s commitment to supplying comprehensive and durable solutions while providing its customers with a premium service. To bring clarity to its range of rotating telehandlers, the group has decided to rename its two ranges under the new names VISION and VISION+. Explains Carlo Alberto Razzoli, MRT Product Manager: “We are seeking to harmonise our entire range by making it simpler. By modernising the design and ergonomics of our products, we are now able to offer a single cab across all the models in the range, thus providing excellent visibility to users whatever the model. Having the same cab also means having an equivalent control station on all models, making them quicker to get to grips with.” Two new machines, the MRT 1645 and MRT 1845, have been added to the VISION range. With 500 kg (1,100 lbs) of additional load capacity compared to their predecessors, these two products offer a lifting height of 16 metres (52’5”) and 18 metres (59’1”) respectively for a load of 4.5 tons (9,900 lbs). They are also equipped with a new Stage V engine, producing power of 75 hp and 116 hp respectively. The VISION range offers a wide selection of 14 models with heights ranging from 16 metres (52’5”) to 25 metres (82’), for a load capacity of up to 4.5 tons (9,900 lbs). The VISION+ range features 12 new models, including the MRT 2260, MRT 2660, MRT 3570 (also available in an electronic suspension version), MRT 2570 and MRT 3060. Adds Carlo Alberto Razzoli: “There is growing demand from customers wanting machines that offer higher performance on construction sites. This high-capacity range meets these expectations perfectly with a very high level of equipment.” With models offering a lifting height of 22 metres (72’9”) to 35 metres (114’8”) and a much improved capacity of up to 7 tons (15,400 lbs), this range is ideal for the installation of structural steelwork, renovation of buildings and even demolition. These two ranges are connected as standard in order to optimise maintenance, increase the machine’s operating hours and therefore reduce the total cost of ownership for the user. The VISION and VISION+ ranges are now available worldwide and will be delivered to the dealer network, to rentals and to key accounts by September 2021.

Safety

The safety of the people using these machines is a priority for Manitou Group. In order to give operators complete visibility, a pack of five LED headlamps ensures full lighting all around the machine, plus two boom head worklights for excellent visibility during loading operations at height. A rear camera that sends images to the cab allows the machine to be manoeuvred in complete confidence. Four accesses built into the chassis, on the left and right, and at the front and rear of the machine, now enable the operator to climb into and out of the machine regardless of which way the cab is rotated. For an optimum experience, the group is reaffirming its intention to offer increasingly comfortable working conditions with evolving cab ergonomics. The brand-new 8" vertical touchscreen on the VISION range, which comes in a 12.1" XXL version on the VISION+ range, is a real human-machine interface that prides itself on being able to rival anything in the automotive sector. The VISION and VISION+ ranges also feature hydrostatic transmission

offering greater driving flexibility and giving the operator a maximum speed of 40 km/h, whatever the model. The latest addition to the VISION+ range, the MRT 3570 allows the operator to carry out handling operations up to 35 metres (114’8”), the greatest height available from Manitou. For increased visibility at this height, the group’s R&D and marketing teams have introduced a new electric seat that tilts by up to 18° to easily monitor deployment of the boom. Manitou Group will also be offering a full electric extension to the VISION+ range by the end of the year, as well as a hybrid version combining a smaller engine with a lithiumion battery. Many models will be available, enabling 100% electric use where work sites and regulatory constraints call for it.

Compact telehandlers

Manitou is creating a new segment in its construction range with compact and hydrostatic fixed telehandlers. With three new innovative models, the MT 730 H, the MT 930 H, and the MT 930 HA (with platform basket), the Manitou brand is clearly responding to strong demand from rentals and dealers for compact machines with space on urban construction sites becoming increasingly limited. These compact sizes, 2 metres wide by 2 metres high (6’6” x 6’6”), have a broad selection of equipment. In the cab, the intuitive Harmony screen gives the operator real-time maintenance and usage notifications. This easy-to-use universal dashboard makes it quick to get to grips with and ensures the safety of both the operator and the machine. A new boom with built-in cylinder offers greater visibility for enhanced safety during loading and unloading. With their small size, these three models are easy to transport and can therefore be quickly delivered from site to site. A fork mounting system on the carriage has been designed to further optimise the length of the machine with attachment, thus reducing transport costs. To guarantee precise and flexible movements, these innovative products have a hydrostatic transmission and a 75 hp engine. These three models are now available to order worldwide and will be delivered throughout the dealer network and to rentals and key accounts from September 2021.

Enhanced site safety

To meet the requirements of restricted or indoor construction sites, these three telehandlers can be equipped as an option with the Safety Pack for optimum safety. This device supports and protects the operator and his or her environment. It warns on-site teams and feeds data back to the fleet manager. Any inappropriate behaviour is therefore identified by sensors activating two flashing lights inside and outside the cab, such as movement of the machine with the boom raised, the seat belt not being fastened, temporary activation of movement cut-off, etc. To avoid any inadvertent movement of the machine, the JSM now detects the operator’s hand to carry out hydraulic movements. Another detection tool, a reversing aid, informs the operator if there is anybody behind the telehandler for complete peace of mind during operation. Access to the cab is also optimised for risk-free entry and exit as a result of there being no step. An automatic parking brake with hill-start assist also helps to reduce the risk of accidents.

Coming soon

To further extend its offering, the group will be launching ultra-compact rough-terrain telehandlers 1.90 metres high and 1.49 metres wide (6’2” x 4’9”) at the end of 2021. Previewed at the BUILD THE FUTURE event, these ULM (Ultra-Light Manitou) models boast a weight of just 2,700 kg (6,000 lbs) with standard attachment and can therefore be transported on a standard trailer with no specific permit required. Intended for the construction sector, but also for landscape gardeners or events teams, they will be delivered to the dealer network, rentals and key accounts in early 2022.

New Cat 992 Wheel Loader Up to 48% More Efficient

Building on a more than half-century legacy that includes the best-selling large mining loader model of all time, the new Cat® 992 Wheel Loader is said to offer up to 32% greater productivity. Caterpillar say this new large mining loader reduces maintenance costs by as much as 10% and offers up to 48% greater payload-per-fuel efficiency than the earlier model 992K.

Powered by the new Cat C32B engine with U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V and Tier 2 equivalent emission engine options, the new 992 meets the global industry’s demand for high-production equipment with greater payloads. Powertrain design enhancements to the transmission, axles and final drive, along with the new engine, deliver a 20% longer interval for planned component replacement. Offering both standard- and high- lift configurations, the 992 delivers the lowest cost-per-ton when paired with fleets of Cat 775, 777 and 785 trucks. Standardlift payload capacities reach 23.1 tonnes (25.5 tons) for quarry face applications and 27.2 tonnes (30 tons) for loose material handling, while high-lift capacities reach 20.4 tonnes (22.5 tons) and 24.5 tonnes (27 tons) in respective applications. A new Z-bar linkage optimised for performance, and improvements to rimpull and breakout force, deliver greater machine capacity and efficiency. The new 992 has demonstrated in field testing up to 48% greater payload-per-fuel efficiency in applications where a four-pass match to 90.7 tonne (100-ton) trucks was achieved, versus five passes with the 992K. The powerful and efficient 992 provides up to 9.5% more rimpull during digging and up to 20% more breakout force, increasing productivity. The new Cat 992 Wheel Loader features an on-demand throttle mode to optimise payload-per-fuel efficiency without slowing production. New standard automatic retarding controls disable the impeller clutch, enable the lockup clutch, and use the implement and fan pumps retarding to slow the machine on grade. The available advanced automatic retarding controls with engine brake feature offers full control of the loader’s speed on grade to maintain a desired hold speed. Automating critical digging cycle elements, optional New Autodig Components further improve productivity and efficiency while reducing tire wear. To stop slippage before it happens, a tire slip prevention feature reduces rimpull before the tires are set and increases rimpull when downward force is applied to the tire. The tire set function detects pile contact and automatically lifts against the pile to set the tires and increase available traction. The lift stall prevention feature automatically manages rimpull in-dig to prevent hydraulic stall while lifting through the face, so the 992 spends less time in the pile.

Elevated comfort

The newly redesigned Cat 992 Wheel Loader cab increases visibility, offers intuitive control, and incorporates next-generation technology to boost efficiency by providing easily accessible information. Its taller windshield increases the glass surface area by 25%, resulting in 10% greater visibility. Operators will appreciate the cab’s 50% increase in legroom and more width by the knees. Providing shift-long operating comfort, the new 992 controls feature electrohydraulic speed-sensing steering with force feedback. Two 254-mm (10-in) colour LED monitors display machine control and operating functions. A separate 203mm (8-in) screen provides a dedicated viewing feed of the standard rearview camera, upgradable with an optional 270-degree vision and object detection.

Kubota Business Unit Engine Europe to launch new engine

Kubota Business Unit Engine Europe, the European arm of the Japaneseheadquartered corporation, is strengthening its world-leading engine line up with the development of a new electronic controlled diesel engine with an output below 19kW.

The new Kubota3-cylinder D902-K (displacement 0.898L), which is set for mass production from 2022, is the first electronic CAN controlled engine that the globally-renowned manufacturer of industrial Off-Highway, Diesel and Spark-Ignited engines has developed for output less than 19kW. Designed and developed to meet the latest exhaust emission regulations (EU Stage V, EPA Tier4 and China NR IV, and China’s Class III visible smoke regulation GB36886-2018) scheduled to come into force in December 2022. The new D902-K diesel engine features a newly designed TVCR combustion chamber combined with a new and unique common rail system within its compact size, making it the ideal replacement for conventional mechanical controlled models. This innovative system enhances the engine performance efficiency whilst reducing fuel consumptions of approximately 5% compared to conventional control model, meaning that black smoke emission is reduced and suppressed to an invisible level, even during start-up, acceleration and sudden load. Another key feature of Kubota’s D902-K diesel engine is its ability to help improve drivability and work efficiency. Through the acquisition of engine operation data, telematics technology and communicating via CAN by electric control, both the rotation and torque of the engine can be enhanced or suppressed to improve performance and efficiency that cannot be achieved by mechanical control.
