Hyundai HX140LC Excavator

HYUNDAI’S LATEST HX140LC EXCAVATOR IS ‘RELIABLE, EFFICIENT & OPERATOR FRIENDLY’

County Tyrone based contractor Ralph Burrows is a loyal fan of the Hyundai brand; he has just invested in his third excavator from Northern Lift Trucks, one of the very latest Hyundai HX140LC’s, and he couldn’t be more satisfied.

Ralph undertakes a variety of projects - from building sites to farm work – across the country, always busy, always on the go, so he needs a machine that he can rely on 24/7, and he finds that in the Hyundai. Ralph established his own business in 2006, employing a number of men and machines, but cut back when the recession hit and today essentially operates as an owner/ driver, along with help from his sons. “I cannot afford the excavator to let me down,” says Ralph, who was working on preparing the ground for a factory extension when we caught up with him. “It needs to be dependable, and I have always found that with all of the Hyundai’s I have operated over the years; of course, I have had other makes, but the Hyundai does exactly what it says it will do.” His previous Hyundai HX140 was powered by a Perkins engine, but the new 14 tonne machine has a Cummins and says Ralph: “It’s a totally different animal altogether!” He adds: “It’s more powerful, moves quicker and smoother, and the controls are so precise, so accurate and responsive; it’s unreal, compared to other models I have driven. “The cab is also far better laid out than others I have had; there’s plenty of space and it has everything you would ever need. It really does provide a pleasant working environment for me – including Bluetooth connectivity, a brilliant audio system and even a small fridge under the seat, ideal for keeping my drinks cool in warm weather. “Apart from providing a robust and reliable machine, it’s clear to me that Hyundai have put the operator’s comfort first, with a lot of attention to little details that all make up to create a great environment in which to spend your working day. “And as for the 360 degree cameras, they are the best I have ever seen. All round visibility is vital, especially working on sites where there is a lot of construction traffic and tradesmen; you have to know what is happening around the machine all the time. In fact, you soon get so used to having the cameras that you find yourself wondering what you ever did without them in the past.” With contracts all over the country, transporting the Hyundai from site to site is never a problem. He just loads it up on to a low loader and off he goes to where the work is, and he doesn’t have to worry about it letting him down.

SPECIFICATIONS

“It was supplied by Northern Lift Trucks with a three year service warranty; the team there is excellent, which is another reason why I stay with Hyundai. I cannot afford any downtime, working to tight schedules. Any issues that arise are quickly dealt with. There is always someone at the end of a phone, even at week-ends, including Sundays, or in the evenings. The service they provide is exceptional.”

Intelligent Power Control

So, let’s take a closer look at the Hyundai HX140LC. It features Intelligent Power Control (IPC) which regulates the hydraulic pumps, depending on the job you want to do. Simply select speed mode, balance mode or efficiency mode to tailor your machine’s performance, while an ECO Gauge gives you instant fuel efficiency feedback as you work. You can also monitor detailed information on average, hourly and daily fuel consumption to help you work more economically. As Ralph says, low noise, low vibration, and ergonomic design make the air conditioned cab, with its fully adjustable air suspended seat, more comfortable and pleasant. Machine functions are clearly visible on an 8-inch touch screen display, which is 15% larger than the previous model, making it easier to read while you are working. A centralised instrument cluster gives you a constant overview of machine status and operating parameters, including overload warnings, while many electronic functions are concentrated in the most convenient spot for you to improve work efficiency. As Ralph confirmed, the machine’s state-of-the-art Advanced Around View Monitoring (AAVM) video camera system gives you a secure field of vision in all directions, thereby preventing accidents. You can easily check the work site in the front, rear and to the right and left. Also as Ralph pointed out, radio, USB-based MP3 player, integrated Bluetooth hands-free feature, and builtin microphone allow convenient phone calls while in work and in transit. The radio player was moved to the right side from the rear in the previous model, allowing easier access.

Hi-MATE

For maximum convenience and security, as with all Hyundai Crawler Excavators, the machine features Hyundai’s exclusive Hi-MATE remote fleet management system. It offers working information such as working / idling hours, and fuel consumption. You can check the difference between total engine hours and actual working hours, see how productive your machines are and plan any required cost saving solutions. Fast and routine servicing, meanwhile, is made possible with easy access to important servicing points as well as clear information about maintenance status via the instrument cluster.

news Terex MP Acquires MDS International in Ireland

Terex Materials Processing has acquired MDS International, a manufacturer of heavy duty and recycling trommels, apron feeders and conveyor systems, based in Co. Monaghan.

MDS was founded in 1995 by Liam and Una Murray, with a vision to design and develop engineering solutions to industry. Over the past 25 years MDS has built a highly skilled work force along with global distribution partners, and has a valued reputation for innovation, offering bespoke solutions to serve client needs with equipment that can withstand the harshest of environments. This acquisition supports Terex MP’s growth strategy to expand its offering in the crushing and screening and environmental industries, with products that complement the existing portfolio. Trommels from MDS are heavy duty trommels that will enable expansion into areas of the market that Terex MP does not currently serve. Additionally, Terex MP expects strong commercial synergies from this deal, as several Terex MP distributors already carry the MDS line, while others will be new to Terex, offering the potential to develop new channel partner relationships. MDS’ 34,000 square foot facility will be the first Terex location in the Republic of Ireland, which diversifies its footprint and provides access to a new labour pool. Additionally, the facility is within a short driving distance to the Terex Dungannon and Omagh sites, providing ready access to Terex MP’s Northern Irish team and enabling close coordination with the resources at these facilities. The MDS facility and its highly skilled team members will be led by Conor Hegarty, General Manager and Business Line Director. Previously, Conor held the position of International Sales Director for Terex Ecotec, and his commercial background and product knowledge will be a huge asset as he takes leadership responsibility for MDS. MDS will remain a standalone brand along with Terex MP’s Crushing and Screening businesses including Powerscreen, Terex Finlay and EvoQuip. Terex MP will build on the momentum of MDS International’s long-standing reputation, continuing to develop the brand, its product portfolio and its distribution channels. Commenting on the announcement, Pat Brian, Vice President, Mobile Crushing and Screening, Terex MP said, “The addition of MDS to our portfolio of businesses will bolster our growth and improve our product offering. The business has been well managed, is on a terrific growth trajectory, and its heavy duty trommels address a gap in our own product lines while also having a lot of synergy with what we already manufacture and distribute.” Liam Murray, co-founder of MDS International said, “I am so proud of how MDS has grown over the past 25 years—to have a multinational company like Terex interested in our business is a testament to what we have achieved. MDS will now have the global resources of Terex to develop and grow it to new levels; I feel this is the right move for our business and team. This sale will also bring new levels of support to customers and dealers worldwide. I will always care deeply for our MDS family and will remain on board for a period of time, in order to support a smooth transition to Terex ownership.”

Mallon announces £19 million ‘Dark Arches’ rail refurbishment project to begin

A £19 million major refurbishment of rail infrastructure for the Whiteabbey area is underway.

The essential engineering works include the full renewal of the track along the ‘Dark Arches’ between Whitehouse Park and Whiteabbey Station, installation of new track drainage system, installation of new ducted routes for signalling and telecoms, demolition of one of the overbridges and installation of new retaining walls to increase the rail corridor width and provide continuous positions of safety. The project will take place in stages, and all works are expected to be completed by early 2022. Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: “I have been clear that I am committed to addressing the climate emergency and increasing the use of sustainable travel. Key to that commitment is ensuring we have a functioning and thriving public transport network and that is why I want to invest in our infrastructure and our rail infrastructure in particular, which will deliver for local people and visitors now and well into the future. “This is one of the busiest sections on the network with significant strategic importance as the gateway to Belfast from the Derry and Larne lines. “Renewal works were last carried out on this specific area back in 2005 and whilst achieving a lifespan of 15 years, a greater level of intervention is now required to provide asset integrity assurance and extend the design life expectancy for a period of at least 30 years. “The upgrade on this section of the line will not only bring long term benefits for passengers by enabling people to stay connected to work, shop, socialise and study but it will also ensure we can continue to open up opportunities for connectivity and economic growth.” Translink’s Director of Infrastructure, John Glass said: “This is a significant refurbishment of existing rail infrastructure in the Whiteabbey area. The project involves track drainage, new cabling, refurbishment of retaining wall structures and signalling upgrades. “Preliminary enabling works, including night-time works, will begin on 8th July. We will be working closely with our contractors to complete the works as quickly as possible, keeping noise and inconvenience to a minimum. “Later this year, a weekend closure will take place on 2nd/3rd October and the main construction works, involving a 10 day line closure, will take place over the Christmas period. Bus substitutions will be put in place during the line closure.”

FIRST CASE 721G WHEEL LOADER SOLD AND DELIVERED IN GREAT BRITAIN

CASE Construction Equipment dealer Warwick Ward has sold and delivered the first new 721G wheel loader to Blackpole Recycling Ltd based in Worcestershire.

At the customer’s request, Warwick Ward modified the 721G model so that it is designed for purpose with comfort ride solid tyres that further protect the machine from punctures, as well as extra belly guards, a waste ejector ram guard and a screen guard outside of the cab. The machine is also fitted with a Venturi kit that will protect it when working in dusty environments. “Having bought a CX180D from Warwick Ward last October, customer Jonathan Dew, Managing Director of Blackpole Recycling, was already impressed with the CASE brand due to the machine’s reliability, fuel efficiency and operator comfort. So, it made sense that when it came to buying a new wheel loader, he would specifically request a CASE machine and, of course, we were happy to assist,” explains Martin Brain, Sales Manager, Warwick Ward. “The local dealer support we received from Warwick Ward when we purchased our first CASE machine was excellent. When we came to purchase the new wheel loader, we were given a demonstration of the machine and a site survey which highlighted we didn’t need as large a machine as we originally thought. The machine’s primary use will be rehandling waste and aggregates”, comments Jonathan. “I was looking for a loading shovel that was robust enough for this type of application, that was fuelefficient and of a size that would reduce the time it takes to fill and empty a bucket without counting for any overspills.” The new G-Series wheel loaders come with a brand new payload system designed for reliability, time savings and resulting productivity improvements. The system is integrated directly into the wheel loader’s primary display and provides bucket-weight, pass counts, accumulated/running weight, job tracking data and more, for high-volume loading and production environments. Indeed, the latest model is more sophisticated than its predecessor. As standard, it includes a new, more user-friendly, touchscreen display designed to suit operators’ personal preferences, complemented by the machine’s new configurable buttons. These three buttons are colour-coded and integrated within the armrest, presenting operators with a shortcut to their most frequently used screens. As a result, this enables operators to work faster. From the owner’s perspective, new enhancements include the new tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a simplified fuel-saving power mode, providing greater capabilities for them to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
