President Crikey these months are going quick! It was only yesterday I wrote the last report. Anyway I’ll start with the announcement of our 2 new portable bbq’s. I know I’ve been going on a bit about getting them but they have finally arrived. As Lois said a few meetings ago that this has been an issue even in the early days of the club which was written about in earlier newsletters. Well thanks to Clayton Holden Wreckers (thanks Mick), and Growe Transport (herd he’s a top bloke) we have acquired the bbq’s that fit in our boots. We still have the large one for big occasions but the versatility of these will make our outings easier. Also we have to thank David D for the donation of the canvas for the covers (The cook will have the covers made soon). By the time you read this we would have already run them in at the xmas party. I would like to thank Lois for organising the xmas party and to all others who helped as well. Special thanks to Tarik for organising the meats. I’m sure everyone will have had a great day because it’s one of the best family outings we have each year! The next must do outing will be the first monthly meeting for next year. This will be held on Sunday the 3 of February (there is no meeting in January!) It will consist of a family bbq and afterwards the monthly meeting, so all the family can have a input on the day. rd

At this stage it will be held at the meeting rooms at The Pines Learning Centre, 520 Blackburn road Doncaster East. We will be on the lawns the opposite side of the shopping centre. If there’s any changes watch your e-mails as over the break we are going to put all members on an e-mail grouping for this type of notification including runs. The next Must Do is the Presentation Night. Night This once again is held at Natalie’s Restaurant 669 Maroondah Hwy Mitcham on Saturday the 9th of February and is the gala night of the year with formal dress only (no shorts says Lois) so book in with Lois for that one (Details this issue). They are also a Quality inn motel for accommodation. Jeff Wilson has just celebrated his 60 birthday so on behalf of the club, congratulation on this great milestone Jeff. Jeff has also been busy with the Convention Raffle, setting up tickets and awesome prizes so if any members can sell tickets they are available through Jeff or the committh

t’s Report tee (it’s not that hard to sell a heap to family, friends, workmates and those dreaded neighbours!). The feedback we are getting about our convention is awesome and I really think it’s going to be a big one next year so spread the news all! Make sure you read Tim’s write up of Sandown it’s a beauty, as always well done Tim. I know this gets brought up a bit but Memberships are still not up to scratch. scratch Come on Guys and Girls update please! My next drive is for a club trailer. I know there’s good and bad arguments of getting one but if you have to run around as much as some of us have to chasing up the items to have a club outing you would understand the need. I’ve got a few ideas of where to keep it ,who tows it, how to maintain it and keep an eye on the belongings, from other clubs with them so look out next year after the convention. It’s my next goal! Juli has now set a cut off time for the newsletter and its Wednesday before the monthly meeting. This enables printing of the newsletter and having them available in file order on the meeting night. Those still left in the box will be mailed the next day to the members so if you need the hard copy sent get in touch with Juli to be added to the mailing list! The hot rod show at the Exhibition Buildings Carlton is back on the 25 ,26 ,27 ,28 of January and once again we have a Display site so come on down and support the club. th

Last but not least is a reminder to all that we have a Committee meeting before every monthly meeting except the February one so please no early interruptions. Apart from that I would like to wish all members and their families a very merry xmas and a happy new year and please stay safe!

The Hot Ones Hi Members So, it’s now officially Summer - where has the year gone! Oh, well, to cheer myself up (I hate creating cakes in near 40 degree temperatures!), I counted up the days til Winter - 182 to go - yay! I’m a cold weather person - not so great for the cars, but great for snuggling! I think finally I’ve cracked the code for getting the newsletter sorted - if everyone that has something to contribute can get their info to me by the last Wednesday before the Club Meeting, that would be great, as it means no last minute candle-burning-through-to-thewee-hours to get it to the printers and then to the meeting. So, what do you have planned for the Christmas break? Are you taking one at all? I am, for the first time, and I’m going to be painting - oh joy - but, still, I can take a sickie if I like too or enact POETS day for a change of pace (never get to do that ordinarily)... Well, that’s about it from me - next issue is Feb - so stay safe over the Silly Season, and I’ll see you next year!

Til next year... Juli

Historic Sandown Once again the Club was invited by the VHRR to display our cars at Historic Sandown over the weekend of 10 and 11 November 2012. We were provided with space to display three cars on both days. Early on Saturday morning l dropped past Karl’s and we travelled together down to the Sandown Hotel where we were to rendezvous with Ross Anderson. At the hotel a number of other car clubs had congregated, including some early model Holdens. One of the Holden owners struck up a conversation and candidly commented to Karl “I remember your car from years ago, it looks just the same. But you have gotten older.” A golden moment for sure! Fortunately Ross arrived before things became any uglier and relations between Holden and Chevy deteriorated any further. We then headed off to the circuit where we were directed to the rear of the grandstand and parked amongst a variety of other display cars. Karl had brought along one of the A frame display boards promoting our upcoming Convention and this was set up next to our cars on both days. There were a great variety of cars in and around the pits, both on display and competing. Jack Brabham’s 1966 world championship winning Repco Brabham sat alongside a big block Chevy powered Lola sports car, followed by a row of legendary Formula 5000s. All fabulous stuff. There were a number of equally legendary old racing drivers in attendance including Norm Beechey, John French, Fred Gibson, John Harvey and Kevin Bartlett along with renowned spanner men, Ian Tate and Mick Webb. Ford stalwart Murray Carter was also racing one of his old Group C Falcon coupes; not bad going for a senior citizen of 80 plus years!! A great days racing followed with Phil Marrinon pushing up the field in Formula Ford. Although not yet 80, the old drivers adage “The older l get, the faster l was” really applies to Phil. Lookout when Phil’s new car is finished! Phil’s beaut 56 was also in the pits having done duty towing the race car and trailer to the circuit. On Sunday morning Ross and l re-convened at the Sandown Hotel, this time meeting up with Bill in his 56 post. Joining us in the car park were some old Singers (not the sewing machine, but quaint old Pommy sports cars) and a group of Mustangs. Bill and l found the Singers more interesting, even if they couldn’t hit 80 mph if dropped from 20,000feet (that’s 6,096 metres, but old Singers are exempt from metrification). Another great days racing followed. Ross was extra busy checking out the historic Ford sidewackers for all the hottest go fast modifications; happy as a pig in a peach orchard! The Formula 5000s, although lesser in number than last year, put on a great display and the Group C and A tourers battled out an interesting 15 lapper. A Mustang came to grief when it arrived at the end of the main straight without any brakes, thankfully the driver walked away but the considerably shortened Mustang looks to be beyond resurrection.

Christma The Club’s annual Christmas Party has been run and won, with a visit from Santa for all the kids both big AND small ! Held for the second year running at Tirhatuan Park in Dandenong South, members had a fantastic range of activities to choose from: bench racing in the carpark among some truly gorgeous cars, supervising the christening of the new club BBQ’s, liquid refreshments under the shady trees - all great to wile away the late morning hour waiting for the all important snags, burgers and salad for lunch! Many thanks to those who played a role in today’s party: Lois for organising pretty much everything!, Rowie for making sure the new bbw’s were in hand for their official induction into the Club, Our resident go-to butcher Tarique (my apologies if I’ve spelled it wrong!) for the very yummy snags, shaslicks and burgers Santa for making sure that everyone was on the “nice” list, and for visiting with the nice kids from other parties who wandered in to see you too! The raffle was won by the First Daughter, Payden!

Meeting Minutes Run Reports:

Rowie reported on the Marsh Rodders swap meet, great attendance. Will consider a club run there next year. Chev convention display at Ballarat was a great day with fantastic support from the locals. Win TV and the Courier newspaper reporter were there reporting on the show as well. The Lilydale GM Day was average, Rowie locked horns with a few knobs on the day. Steve Peterson reported on the Port Fairy weekend, Steve hit the pub early with Brian Bud and paid the price. Evenings were spent at the caravan park camp kitchen with many ales to keep away the chill. Sat cruise to Hamilton and a visit to a car museum then to a private garage with a huge collection of enamel signs and old memorabilia. Sunday cruise home via Camperdown rockabilly weekend. Many thanks to Lois and Steve for organising a great weekend. Bill D on LGC, Melb Cup afternoon, great day. Johns Rod and Custom, event is picking up again at the new location, nearly 500 cars.

General Business:

Re newsletters being posted out, hardly no one sent a reply back requesting they receive a newsletter. Members were reminded to email the editor if they want a copy posted. It was decided to introduce a members meetings attendance book replacing the roll call. Lois has asked for rsvp’s for the Christmas bbq, also needs to know if kids (under 12 years) are coming so Santa can be prepared. Juli has requested that all items for the newsletter be sent to her no later than the Wed one week before the club meeting. Printed newsletters for those that have requested a printed copy will be available for pickup at the club meetings. February Sunday arvo bbq and meeting is on again, Sun 3rd of Feb at the current club meeting location. Presentation night will be at the same place on Feb 9th, see newsletter for details. Raffle tonight won by Bob Sterten Gill, and 2nd Alan Smithson (again!!).

Port Fairy As usual our family was looking forward to this weekend getaway (especially the kids who thought they’d get a day off school), not to mention the added incentive of getting to take our Nomad for its first big cruise which was the icing on the cake. Unfortunately a minor problem with the Nomad only a few days prior meant the icing bit would have to wait a bit longer. This was our third Port Fairy weekend, and as always we had a great time and enjoyed the company of other members. I’m surprised more members don’t make the trip as it’s a great weekend.

thing about the place was impressive, from the huge shed to the large range of cars and an original Ansett bus on display. One real oddball car in his collection was a Bradford which none of us had heard of before. From there it was a quick visit to the Wool museum then onto the pub for lunch. The poor lady in the pub didn’t know what hit her when we all walked in which got her grizzling about “a bit of warning would have been nice!”. The meals were still good though.

Brian had arranged to call in on a guy in town who had a 55 Chev that Brian had painted many years ago. The car was never completed and he was keen to have another look at it. The guy’s place was a real surprise, Our plan was to meet up with the Kendalls at Point hosting a huge collection of garage enamel signs, petCook, typical traffic delays on the ring road delayed rol bowsers, diner lounges and other period stuff, he things a bit but a quick fuel, coffee and loo stop had us must have been collecting for ages. He also had a very sorted for the long drive. Michael led the way, he must tidy, low mileage 57 wagon which was recent ebay purhave liked that his motor in the 56 as it was a very chase, which proves you can still get a bargain if you quick non-stop drive all the way to our destination. are lucky. Karl and Barb, Des Kelly, the Smithsons, Don Neal and Cathy had arrived before us. Lois and Steve were staying with Brian Budd and had already settled in, having had quitef a few beers head start. A relaxing Friday night in the bbq area with the Coonara burning was a great way to have a few drinks and laughs.

Another night at the park with a group bbq and more beers had us up till late. It was a great night with the Coonara blazing away again. Sunday saw us all out the front for a group photo before the run home via the Camperdown show, with another Nomad rocking up to join in the cruise, much to Des’s delight I’m sure. Camperdown was fantastic with loads of people in classic dress and hairstyles, not to mention a ton of cool of cars. The remainder of the trip home was ok until our hardtop ran out of drive due to a transmission leak, caused by the Saturday belly scrape on the highway. Fortunately we had a bottle of trans fluid on board which was enough to get us home without too much bother.

The girls decided that a visit to the local market on the Saturday morning would be a good thing, so much for a sleep in. At least we ended up with some tasty cookies and assorted treats for the effort. The plan for the day was to cruise to Hamilton, so by 11:00am we were all back and lined up out the front of the park ready for the cruise. Brian rocked up with his very tidy yellow Nomad and led the way. (I just had to mention to Alan I was glad I didn’t bring our Nomad as they were getting a bit common). The cruise was about 90K and was made interesting by some water damaged roads which It was another fantastic weekend and great to tie in with the Camperdown festival. If you haven’t done the caught a few of us out a couple of times; bottoming Port Fairy weekend yet you should put it on your calout on the highway. endar, you won’t be disappointed. In Hamilton our first visit was the car museum, it was amazing considering it was a private collection. Every-
