President Well it’s that time of year again - every weekend you can choose from many events to attend and as they say, have fun in the sun. Plenty has happened this passing month. We have all been busy with the Convention set up and most of the updates will be discussed at our monthly meetings. Can I please note that we have a committee meeting before every monthly meeting and we would prefer if it has no interruptions from early arrivals because it can hold up or disrupt the proceedings. We hold them from 700pm to 750pm with the monthly starting around 800pm. Anyway as I was saying we have all been busy. The first print of the flyers are in stock and the distribution has started. Me, and my daughter Payden hit the Marsh Rodders show and Shine/Swap meet on the 14 of October and saw a few members there. Our aim was to hit every Chev with a flyer which I think we achieved. th
The owners we spoke to were rapt in the new location of the event and all said they would attend in some way. The Marsh Rodders event seems to be getting bigger and better and I would strongly recommend a club run next year with a morning brunch because as Mick Kendall found out, it fills up quick. I got a chance to talk to the event organisers and they said they can point us in to an area reserved for our club. The next Saturday (the 20th) we descended on Ballarat... After an early morning departure (sorry guys!) we headed up to the city of Chev Conventions. There we met with the local tribe with their line-up of outstanding motor vehicles ready to set up. It could not have gone any better. We placed the vehicles down the Bridge Mall in Ballarat and the crowds kept coming. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we have great feedback from the media and locals. We’ve had a lot of enquiries from entrants as well. Thank you to Karl ,David ,Mick k ,Ross ,Bob , and Bill for not only driving to Ballarat and displaying their vehicles, but way. to have them cleaned and presented in such an outstanding way A special thanks to Don Neal for turning up as well for our support. support Thankyou to Krystal, Bayden, Duayne, Scott, Murray, Tracy, David, and Wayne for having their vehicles on display and taking the time out to support us in a massive way on the day. Their support and assistance is vital for a successful convention and I can see a long involvement with Ballarat as our convention turf.

t’s Report The next weekend (the 27th/28th)comprised of the Port Fairy run which myself, the cook, and the sprogs couldn’t attended, but I’ve heard it was a great weekend. Special thanks once again to Brian Budd and Steve Peterson for arranging the run (I’ll be there next time I can promise). Myself and “I want this, and I want that”, plus a mate of his, went to the GM day at Lilydale. There wasn’t the same attendance as previous years and only a hand full of Chev’s that made up a quarter of the show. We hit them with the flyers and due to attitudes, a mixed feeling of response was taken from some of the owners in respect to our convention (you can’t please everyone!). The general public were more interested in the flyers and a-frames. If anyone feels they can contribute to advertising of our convention with flyers or a-frames give me a call. The one area we are struggling in is sponsors. If anyone has any leads could you give David or Jeff a call. Any trade stand enquires give Karl a call.. Other topics of interest are the clubs bbq’s. They’re coming! I’ve just been busy elsewhere and I’m on to them as you read this I’m sure! I’m still wanting a 2 convention flyer for the complete collection to be available so if anyone can help I would appreciate it. nd
The Xmas party is being organised, so keep listening out for this as its always a great day and please give Lois plenty of time on attendance as it makes things a lot easier to organise. There was a mass hand out of newsletters last month and this will be a yearly event to keep our memberships and our details up to date. So please PAY UP AND SEND YOUR SLIP TO THE EDITOR to receive the newsletter in the mail. On the membership area there was an outstanding vote by all members at the last meeting to raise the yearly membership to $50 and $85 for new members. This will come into effect next year due to rising costs of running the club, and looking at other club memberships we are still good value. I know this gets spoken about many times but if you have any ideas about runs or potential club events let Lois or myself know and we can act on it (the bowling night has been put on hold for now until next year due to a busy month over Xmas/New Year!).That’s about it for now.
Drive ‘em hard”, Greg Rowe.

The Hot Ones Hi Members We’re now inside the 8 week countdown to Christmas - I hope you’re all making a list for Santa and making sure your Brownie Point Score is high enough to put you on the ‘Nice’ list this year! There has been so much going on lately that it’s hard to keep track - there’s been huge work put in by the Convention Committee (more on that from Rowie) and also a run to Port Fairy (a wrap up on this is on Page 20)... Our next get together is for the Christmas Party on December 2nd, and the booking form is in this issue - PLEASE don’t forget to book in with Lois so that she can organise the catering, and put your kids on Santa’s list if they need to be. Hope everyone had a fantastic start to Spring - see you at the next meeting!
Til next month... Juli

Route 66, Part 3 ‘The Mother Road’ as it’s affectionately known, stretches from Chicago - Illinois in the East, to Santa Monica - California, in the West. Also known as ‘Will Roger’s Highway’, it’s official title was US Route 66. Established in 1926, it served as the gateway to riches for ‘Okey’s’ to escape the panhandle in search of a better life, stretching some 2,448 miles across 8 states. Decommissioned officially in 1985, it is now one of America’s most famous landmarks.

Route 66 Specia What to See... So far we’ve discovered where to stay and what to eat, now let’s take a look at the top things to see as you drive the Mother Road...
Sante Fe, New Mexico Situated some 6,000 ft above sea level, you are literally walking in the rarefied air that holds the clouds when you’re at home. Talk a walk around the adobe buildings that surround the main square and absorb the rich Indian heritage of the Tewa people. Indulge in gorgeous turquoise jewellery or sit back in one of the many diners and watch the world go by.
Santa Monica Pier, California Located just next door to the end of “will Roger’s Highway”, Santa Monica Pier is the place to stop, unwind and smell the roses. Have lunch at Bubba’s Shrimp (the restaurant chain named after the shrimp boat in Forrest Gump) then enjoy a ride on the restored carousel that sits adjacent to a fully restored Wurlitzer.
Chain Of Rocks Bridge, St Louis Missouri The Chain of Rocks bridge once carried Route 66 over the mighty Mississippi. The bridge had a unique 24-degree bend in the middle, which was necessary for boats navigating the river. Eventually, I-270 bypassed the bridge and it sat in disrepair for years, until it was turned into a pedestrian and bike path. Just downstream are two beautiful water intake towers that look like tiny castles.

al, Part 3 What to See Cont... Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo Texas Eccentric millionaire Stanley Marsh III commissioned this huge art piece. Ten Cadillacs are buried at an angle in the sand. The cars have been decorated by visitors with many layers of spray paint graffiti.
Grand Canyon, Arizona While not located alongside Rte 66, it is well worth the detour to take in the amazing vistas of the Grand Canyon. With the Colorado River carving her way through the bottom of the canyon anywhere up to a mile below your feet, the views, even on a bad day, make you realise just how little one person can be.
Union Station, Chicago Illinois One of the most iconic railway stations in the US is located in Chicago, and the Grand Hall (pictured) looks much the same today as it did when it was first opened in 1925. At almost 9-1/2 city blocks in size, it exists mostly underground, with all stations and tracks located under the city’s streets.
