Chocolate is made from Cacao fruit. Chocolate starts from the cacao tree(Theobroma Tree). It produces a football shaped fruit that grows from the branches and has about 30 or 40 seeds inside it. The fruit has a sticky, white pulp. It is sweet and tart. This pulp is used to make chocolate and chocolate drinks.

Different Types of Chocolate

Couverture is a term used for chocolates rich in cocoa butter.

Chocolate is made from different ingredients.Chocolate has different forms and flavors depending on the ingredients. Swiss Dark Chocolate, also known as “Black Chocolate”, is produced by adding fat and sugar to cocoa. The dark chocolate is made without milk. “Semisweet Chocolate” has half as much sugar as cocoa. Sweet chocolate, bittersweet chocolate and unsweetened chocolate use more sugar and more cocoa butter, vanilla and sometimes lecithin are added. Dark chocolate is considered the healthiest of all the chocolates.

Bittersweet and semisweet chocolates are sometimes referred to as couverture.


Different Brands of Chocolate The world enjoys various brands of blended chocolates which are available world wide. The Top ten are: Kit Kat ,Mars, Galaxy, Cadbury, Toblerone, Patchi, Guylian, Ghirardelli, Lindt& Spr端ngli, Ferrero Rocher.


Dark Chocolate Dark chocolate is also called “Black Chocolate,” it is produced by adding fat and sugar to cocoa. Dark chocolate has no milk in it, unlike milk chocolate and white chocolate which has milk in the chocolate. The US has no definition for dark chocolate but Europeans rule that dark chocolate must have 35% of the cocoa to be considered dark chocolate. Dark chocolate can be eaten or used in cooking. Dark is synonymous with semisweet, so semisweet chocolate is similar with the word “Dark”.


Milk Chocolate "Milk chocolate" is made with milk in the form of milk powder, it has less sugar than white chocolate but more than dark chocolate. In 1875 Daniel Peter was the first person to make milk chocolate, He found out how to combine milk and cocoa powder to make milk chocolate.


White chocolate White chocolate is made out of cocoa butter, sugar, and milk solids and salt, and is characterized by a pale yellow or ivory appearance. White chocolate is not chocolate in the accurate sense as it does not contain cocoa solid. Unlike traditional chocolates, the cocoa solids are not later recombined. As the outcome, white chocolate does not contain the properties or many ingredients of chocolate. Often, The cocoa butter is sweetened to remove the flavor like of chocolate.


Glossary Theobroma- A tree that grows cacao seed, the seed is as big as a football. Pulp- A very tart fruit, it is used to make chocolate and chocolate drinks. Semisweet- is used to make chocolate chip cookies and for cooking other treats. Bittersweet- Similar to dark chocolate, a bit bitter. Ivory- Ivory is an off-white color, It has a very slight tint of yellow.
