The history of Bayern is a century long. Bayern Munich was formed on 1900 by football enthusiasts who left Münchner TurnVerein because of their gymnasts who were not interested in football. In 1906, for financial reasons, they joined forces with Münchner Sport Club. As part of the deal they had to change their team colour from black, to red, the colour they still use today. Also, in 1906, they won their first title as the Bavarian Champions. In 1919, after WWI, they left MSC to focus on field hockey and tennis. After they left MSC, they joined forces with Turn- und Sportverein 1890 Jahn München until 1923. Since then, they have been an independent club.
