tWenty-eighth sunday in ordinary tiMe (Year B) 10/11 OCTOBER 2015 Entrance Antiphon If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But with you is found forgiveness, O God of Israel. Aid to Church in Need (ACN) This weekend we welcome Mr Michael Casey who will speak to us about the work of ACN. Traditionally the organisation has helped those churches recovering from years of oppression under Communist regimes; nowadays it works in very many places, notably the Middle East. The money that we have collected in the past two years from our SYRIA box, about £2000 in total has all gone to ACN for their work in the Middle East. Two Great Feasts There are two great feasts this week: St Edward the Confessor, on Tuesday 13 October, who was King of England and on Thursday (15 October) we keep the feast of one of the very greatest of the saints in the calendar: St Teresa of Ávila. This past year we have been celebrating the 500th anniversary of her birth. St Teresa was a great mystic and wrote wonderfully on the spiritual life with a wisdom that countless Christians in our own day find speaks to them in a very powerful way. She was also renowned for her common sense and a sharp sense of humour. Once, when she was experiencing quite a lot of difficulty (she was reforming the Carmelite Order and encountering much opposition), she said to the Lord “Lord, if this is the way you treat your friends, it’s no wonder you have so few of them.” St Edward the Confessor, pray for us. St Teresa of Ávila, pray for us.
