tWenty-ninth sunday in ordinary tiMe (Year B) 17/18 OCTOBER 2015 Entrance Antiphon To you I call; for you will surely heed me, O God; turn your ear to me; hear my words. Guard me as the apple of your eye; in the shadow of your wings protect me. St Paul of the Cross Monday 19 October is the feast of St Paul of the Cross, the founder of the Passionists. He lived in Italy and founded the Order in 1720. His inspiration came from his contemplation of the Passion of Jesus which he came to see as the surest sign of God’s love for the world. Passionists take the three common vows of poverty, chastity and obedience and in addition a fourth vow: to keep alive the memory of the Lord’s Passion. St Paul of the Cross always wanted the Order to spread from Italy to England, and he decreed that every house of the Order should offer daily prayer for the conversion of England. He died in 1775 and his dream about England became a reality in 1841 when Dominic Barberi landed at Folkestone and introduced the Order to these islands. Within just over a generation, our parish of Herne Bay was founded. So this is all part of the family history of our parish. Walsingham Pilgrimage for Life The Walsingham Pilgrimage of Reparation whose focus is the sanctity of life took place on 27 September and for the first time was attended by an organised group from Kent – 17 pilgrims went by coach from here. It was a very prayerful day, with the Joyful and Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary being prayed on the coach and hymns to Our Lady being sung.
