soleMnity oF all saints 31 OCTOBER / 1 NOVEMBER 2015 Entrance Antiphon Let us all rejoice in the Lord, as we celebrate the feast day in honour of all the Saints, at whose festival the Angels rejoice and praise the Son of God. Celebrating the Saints and the Faithful Departed The Feast of All Saints is a day to give thanks for the “great cloud of witnesses” as the Letter to the Hebrews puts it, those who have gone before us and have given outstanding example of love and faithfulness. It is good to get to know the saints and perhaps find one who is particularly inspiring for us personally. On Monday we celebrate All Souls, a special day of prayer for our deceased relatives and friends. As well as the normal 10am Mass there will be an evening Mass at 7pm. Parish Mission Last weekend we heard from Karen Surety of the Sion Community about the plans for our Mission. We had a very positive meeting on Sunday afternoon in which we discussed the plans for the Mission in greater detail. We have had a good number of offers of help but there is still room for more. If you filled in one of the “tick-sheets” distributed at Mass last weekend, please return it as soon as you can. There will be a meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council on Wednesday at 7pm. First Friday Next Friday (6 November) is First Friday, so there will be an evening Mass at 7pm followed by prayers for healing.

Adoration every weekday: One hour, from 8.30-9.30am, has been set aside for a particular intention (see table above). Those unable to make the hour each morning are encouraged to take time during the day to pray for these intentions.
Traidcraft: last weekend (24/25 October) took £149.20 last weekend. There were also £46 of orders. Thanks to everyone who continues to support us. Remembrance: Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday. The 11.15 Mass will be offered for the dead of the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. A wreath will be laid at the outside altar after this Mass. Important Notice about First Holy Communion: This last year we used a new programme of preparation for First Communion, pioneered in Liverpool, and we felt that it worked well and has great potential. It is especially effective in getting families to work together in the preparation. However, we felt that it could have been of much greater benefit if the children had been a little older and as a consequence we are not going to offer preparation for First Communion until this time next year. We realise that this will disappoint many of you but having given the matter careful thought and having considered the experience of other parishes, we believe that this is the best thing to do for our children and families. Aid to Church in Need (ACN): As you will see from the poster in the porch, we raised the sum of £754 for ACN and their inspiring work with the suffering Church. It was a great effort, especially as we were collecting for CAFOD at the same time. Thank you too to those who contribute to the SYRIA collection in the wall-box at the back of church: we are sending a cheque for £1010 this week. Your ongoing support is vital. Sincere Thanks: from the family of Lynda Ellmers for the celebration of Lynda’s funeral on Monday and for the lunch served in the Hall afterwards. Her brother Chris and all the family were deeply moved and are very grateful for all your love and support for Lynda especially these last months. Equal Shares: Sept - L.Hoffmeister £50, Chris Comper £25; Oct - Rosemarie Williams £50, Dave Kendall £25; Nov - Pat Walters £50, Sr Corinne £25 Welcome to Sue Harvey: who has taken over as Parish Secretary. We are very pleased to have her as part of the team. Rotas: Can be found on the noticeboard at the back of church. The 1st Collection for last week was £848.70 (of which £497.10 was from gift-aided envelopes and £351.60 was loose collection). Thank you. NB Remember, if you pay income tax, to gift-aid whatever you offer. To gift-aid your offering please fill in one of the forms at the back of church.
