Entrance Antiphon Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say rejoice. Indeed, the Lord is near. A Word on the Parish Mission (13-28 February 2016) A few people have asked the question, “Just what do we mean by the word ‘Mission’”? There are various ways of thinking about it, here are a few: •
a Mission is a time of spiritual renewal; with help from outside teams (in our case the Sion Community for Evangelism) we take stock of our spiritual lives and receive help to grow.
•
a Mission is a time to reach out to those who have given up the practice of the faith and to invite them to return.
•
a Mission is a time, a little bit like a holiday, a break from routine, an opportunity to experience new things - hear about different ways of prayer, hearing about how other people have discovered the power and joy of the Gospel, seeing services done in a different way - a time of spiritual refreshment.
There is a lot of prayer and preparation going on for our Mission and it is sure to be a special time of grace. We will soon have a Mission prayer card with our own parish mission prayer: please pray this prayer regularly. The Mission will be a time of blessing - let us do all we can to take full advantage of it. The Jubilee Year of Mercy The Holy Year announced by Pope Francis began on Tuesday 8 December and it was heartening to see how many people attended the two Masses we celebrated on that day.
