It is remembered, however, as World Day of Prayer for the Sick Saturday 17th: Feast of the Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order. LENT: And so, even though memories of Christmas are still fresh in our minds, we embark this week on the Season of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday itself is a day when we abstain from meat and when we fast from food in any which of which we feel capable. The six weeks of Lent are fundamentally meant to prepare us for the celebration of Easter, the most important feast in the Church’s year. So we apply ourselves to the three disciplines of Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving (the Almsgiving being linked to the Fasting: what we save from fasting we give as alms for the poor). The more we give ourselves to keeping Lent faithfully and well, the more profound our celebration of Easter will be. So let us try and make the most of it!!!! SACRED HEART COMPANIONS IN PRAYER The next meeting will be on Wednesday 21st February – the date has been moved due to Ash Wednesday falling on the second Wednesday of the month.
