PENTECOST NOVENA - From Friday 11th May to Pentecost Sunday (20th) the Church throughout the world prays for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit with a particular emphasis on the Unity of all Christians. This is the Pentecost Novena. We join in spirit with the Anglican Church whose leaders, Archbishops Justin Welby and John Sentamu have of recent years, promoted prayer for the renewal of Christian faith in our lands. Please try and say the following prayer each day from 11-20 May (and why nor continue it afterwards too!!) The first part is a prayer Pope St John XXIII asked to be said worldwide in preparation for the Second Vatican Council: Renew your wonders in this our day as by a new Pentecost. Father, pour out your Holy Spirit upon your
people and grant us: a new vision of your glory…..a new experience of your power….a new faithfulness to your Word….and a new consecration to your service. That your love may grow among us and your Kingdom come, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
FORTHCOMING FUNERAL: Tony Pozzetti’s Requiem which will take place on Friday 25th May at mid-day. NO MEDITATION THURSDAY TUESDAY 15TH MAY WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY - Sunday 13th May 2018 World Communications Day collection: this collection supports the work of the Catholic Communications Network (CCN), the media office of the Bishops’ Conference of England and wales. The CCN seeks to be of service both to the Church and the world in offering professional channels of communication, and provides support for the Bishops of England and Wales and the wider Church in promoting the Gospel through the media on current issues. Its office is the focus for media enquiries on national matters, and seeks to develop the public profile of the Church and its teaching. The CCN provides up-to-date news releases, features and podcasts, information from the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, and trains spokesmen and women. We would encourage you to support this work by contributing to the collection which is taken today, enabling the Church to continue this work of communication.
NEW DATA PROTECTION LAWS: As you may all be aware there is some new data protection legislation coming into force on 25th May 2018, which is going to impact on all of us. One of the responsibilities we will now have to undertake is to know who has access to the vast amount of personal information we hold in the parish. I know that a great number of you currently volunteer for the parish or may have done so in the past and may have some personal information at your home in a file and/or on a PC or laptop. Please could you let either me or (the parish secretary) know if this applies to you so that I can let you know what actions you will need to take going forward. The Archbishop is encouraging all of us to help implement these changes and I thank you in advance for your co-operation. THIS IS YOUR PARISH: We invite you all to an afternoon’s reflection on our life as a parish community…what it is at present and how it might be improved in the future.
