Wednesday 11th July St. Benedict, Patron of Europe. Friday 13th is the Feast of St Mildred, the first Abbess of Minster. FR PATRICK CP is on holiday he will be back towards the end of July. We trust he will enjoy his well‐earned rest!! APOSTLESHIP OF THE SEA: This weekend we have the opportunity to support the wonderful work done in the ports around the country to care for seafarers. So many of the cargo ships these days are crewed by Catholic Philippino and Indian seamen who are often poorly paid and in need of spiritual and material help – the port chaplains of the Apostleship of the Sea are a vital lifeline for great numbers of these people. There will be a retiring collection as you leave the church. To donate online, please visit: www.apostleshipofthesea.org.uk THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL at the meeting on Wednesday last reflected on the Bible Weekend (22‐24 June). The events of the weekend went off very well and most were well supported, with the Lectio Divina (i.e. spiritual way of listening to the Scriptures) and Gospel parable sessions on the Saturday afternoon being especially so. The barbecue and Gospel story session on the Sunday was exceptionally good and it was a delight to have a number of families together enjoying the lovely space in the garden of the Retreat. As a way of building on the success of the weekend, we are planning to encourage bible study/ reflection groups: more of this shortly. We also had a discussion with Moyra Feathers about the support the parish can give to Sr Astrid CP in Democratic Republic of Congo as she hopes to have a primary school built to go alongside the secondary school which we have very largely helped to build. Again, there will be more to say about this in the near future. FR. MARK will not be here over the weekend as he is celebrating a baptism in Ilkley. Fr Malachy is in charge!
