FR PATRICK CP is on holiday he will be back towards the end of July. We trust he’ll enjoy his well-earned rest! BISHOP PAUL MASON: we heard on Tuesday that Bishop Paul , who has been our “Bishop in Kent” for just over two years, has been asked by the Apostolic Nuncio to become Bishop for the Forces. This is an honour and a challenge for Bishop Paul and he will certainly make a great contribution in his new role, but he will be a sore loss to us in Kent. He has been most helpful and accommodating not only to our own parish but to so many others in Kent. His Confirmation liturgies made such a great impact on the young candidates. We shall miss him very much and I have assured him of our best wishes and prayers. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CHRISTIAN? Peter Green writes: “Last week my grand-daughter told me about a friend of hers who doesn’t believe in God and certainly not in Jesus. But apparently she is a really good person, loving, generous kind and always there to help and my granddaughter thinks she is a lot more “Christian” than many of the people she knows who call themselves Christian. Well, is she right? It’s true that Christians are called to live all these virtues which she sees in her friend, but a Christian is, ultimately, a follower of Jesus, someone who has a relationship with the person of Christ. We follow a person, not a rulebook for good living. We try to grow in love for Him by getting to know Him, so as to become like Him and imitating Him in our daily life. One of the best ways of getting to know Him is through the Scriptures and many of us had a good experience of this on our recent Bible Weekend. Would you like to join us as we study/reflect on the Word of God? And do this in small groups in our own homes? Some would like to give this a try and we would like to know how many would like try it.
