PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES IN LENT:  Every Sunday: Lent Devotions, including Stations of the Cross: 4.00p.m.  Fridays: Stations of the Cross at 7.00 p.m.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: each weekday from 8.30 – 9.30 a.m.  Adoration every Thursday from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.  And why not try to make it to a weekday Mass, Mon‐Fri at 10.00

Lent is also a special time for fasting and almsgiving: CAFOD Family Fast Day is this coming Friday and there will be an appeal for funds the following weekend.

SACRED HEART COMPANIONS IN PRAYER We will have Mass at the Convent Chapel on Wednesday 13th March at 7pm. Members are asked to bring their prayer books. New members are always welcome.

MISSION/RED BOXES‐ It’s that time of year again – please return your red box to your promoter or to the Parish Office by the end of the month. Thank you for your continued support.

WEDNESDAY: PARISH LUNCH AT 12.00 IN THE RETREAT HALL: ALL WELCOME and come early for a cup of tea and a chat.

LET’S TALK: Monday March 18th at 7.00 p.m. at the Sisters’ House , 25 Western Esplanade: Topic: FAITH: What is faith? What is faith in God? Is it simply a list of beliefs such as found in the Nicene Creed and the Apostles’ Creed (and where do these come from anyway?) What does it mean to ‘keep the faith’? Why would anyone ‘lose their faith’ and what are the consequences? How can we share the faith with our neighbours, our friends, our children?

THE 9.30 MASS THIS SUNDAY is being offered for the repose of the soul of Brian Alderson, a much‐loved and sorely‐missed lay member of the Minsteracres Community. His wife Pat wishes to thank all from the parish here who have had Mass said for Brian and have sent sympathy cards to her. She is deeply grateful.

BOCCIA (rhymes with “gotcha”) is an indoor bowls game for people with different forms of disability. Sheila Appleton who lives in Herne Bay and relies on a wheelchair for most of her day watched the competitions at the 2012 Paralympics in London and thought to herself: that’s a sport I could play myself…..and out of that, with her husband Derek, the Herne Bay Boccia group was born. This month they are celebrating their sixth birthday and at a party in our Retreat Hall (our hall is their home “turf”) they were presented with cheques from the Rotary Club to help buy expensive equipment for some users and also to help with their transport costs for competitions. The club is going well – one regular player is in a competition in Crawley this weekend where the selectors for the English national squad will be in attendance. Watch this space!!

PARISH EQUAL SHARES SCHEME – 2019 : Equal Shares is a great fundraiser for the Parish and fun to get involved. Would you like to join or renew your membership, it costs just £12 a year. (One off payment) With the opportunity to win 2 monthly prizes, & once a year in December four people will win a prize of £25 each.

Application forms are at the back of the Church. Completed forms and cheques to be returned to the Parish Office (in a sealed envelope) by Sunday 31st March. Cheques made payable to ST MARY’S PARISH

SVP‐Storage/Oven‐ there is a need from time to time to store donated large items of furniture, household equipment etc. ‐ a spare garage, outbuildings that are dry and secure would be great. Also large family have urgent need of Electric stand‐alone oven. Please contact Frank 01227 652370 SVP ‐ Lenten Appeal Donations‐ there are still some envelopes available at the back of the Church. If Parishioners wish to support, please take one per family, if you did not get one last weekend. Please return Easter weekend or earlier if preferred.

Parish holiday/retreat to Minsteracres 10 ‐17 August: Bookings are now being taken for our annual holiday/retreat in the magnificent Northumberland countryside. An opportunity to step back from the pace of everyday life and enjoy all that the retreat centre has to offer. To quote the Minsteracres' community: "Minsteracres Retreat Centre provides a space where people feel welcome, can be themselves and are enabled to find healing and wholeness in relationship with God, with themselves and with creation." Ploughmans with glass of wine and access to Club bar are included for £8 per person. There are now 2/3 tables of 8 remaining as a result of early demand.
