1
The Yupianlou Art Center locates in one of the most historic towns in the world. A place with rich cultural and architectural legacies. China is a place filled with ancient memories. As the city expands forward, rapid urbanization juxtaposes with ancient sites...rises both challenges and opportunities. Surrounding Context
Ground Floor
Second Floor 2
The project aims to explore the relationship between cultural heritage and modern life. The building was partly ruined through time. It is a living record that carries memory and legacy from the past.
3
The project maintained most of the existing building elements such as rammed earth walls, bricks, tiles, and wooden structures.

Experimental Site NO.1 Global Context
In recent years, the number and proportion of hungry people in the world have risen sharply, and have greatly exceeded the global population growth rate.
+ Local Issue
Arable land is disappearing on a large scale due to soil salinization. It forced farmers to move to cities in order to gain income and survive.
+ Strategy 19
New experimental saline-alkali-tolerant rice field planning strategy to provide jobs and economical boots for all farmer; aiming to attract and maintain rural population in relation to local economy growth.

Retaining and Attracting Residents in Rural Areas Seawater hybrid rice is not only a solution for global food security. It can also reduce food migration and provides job opportunities in rural areas. This new way of farming creates a resilient agricultural structure with stable economic profits. It has the potential to retaining and attracting new residents to stay and continue to develop in the rural area.
