BRIEF 2 Pixar Playing Cards

BRIEF & CONCEPT Create a set of playing cards using the main characters from the Pixar Animation Studio films as the visuals for the suits using three colours. There will be two versions, a kids version which is a packet of playing cards and an adults deluxe edtion which comes in a wooden box containing two deck of cards, one red and one blue and 4 greeting cards. The brief started out being just a deck of cards but that wasn’t enough so it developed into two seperate categorizes, kids and adult. The kids would be very basic with the style being very child friendly visually and an adults deluxe edition which would be of a higher quality using better quality stock for the cards and the deck of cards coming in a wooden box.

MAIN CHARACTERS The main characters chosen for the suits. Each character was chosen for a specific role to play with the deck. Using my own personal knowledge about the characters and the films they appear in and with research into the films, I organized and assigned the characters based on their popularity and personality to suit what card they would represent. The colour palette was kept to a minimum of three colours. I wanted to represent the characters in the simplist way possible and to continue the look of traditional playing cards with their choice of using just two or three colours.

FULL SET OF DECKS Organized set of suits with assigned characters and colours. Each character and deck colour was carefully selected so they didn’t clash with each other with the colours they have been given. The characters for the numbered suits where repeated because this was to keep the cards consistent wiout any unnessesary mistakes and to stick with the number of films Pixar has currently released to date (twelve).

FINAL PRODUCTS Final products showing the detail of the deluxe edition box and the kids deck. The addition of the four greeting cards for the deluxe edition is something else to have for a collectable and shows more content of added value to the product. The visual style of the deluxe edition deck of cards still shows the well known look of the traditional decks of cards and it still has its own personal touch to it with type and imagery. The kids deck of cards still uses the same playing cards as the deluxe edition but it has a more friendly and approachable look to the packet visual. Designing this way and making that decision seperates the two and shows the different target audiences they are intended for.
