The Atmosphere If you don’t happen to have a jazz trio handy, an iPod and music dock will do the trick. Find a Pandora station, and resist the urge to leave the table so you can thumbs-up or thumbs down every single song. Just let it play. Or simply go with the soothing sounds of Mother Nature blending with that noisy neighbor you didn’t invite. The Tao of Success Achieve your goals with adherence to these six business bullet points. By Adam Toren

TO BECOME successful as an entrepreneur, you need to stay true to your beliefs, remain focused on your goals, and work diligently to achieve them. Only then will the secret of success unveil itself to you. You’ll see that the answer was right in front of you the whole time. Indeed, your success is a mirror image of your hard work. With that in mind, here are six bullet points to help you achieve your goals.

The Secret of Success—The Long, Straight Road A man is headed north to reunite with his long-lost family. He knows of only one route to arrive at his destination: a long, solitary road. He sets off one dewy morning full of resolve, pacing himself and stopping to smell the roses along the way. Though he faces daily adversity, he remains faithful to his purpose. Though he sees many lovely gardens and palaces, he remains determined

to reach his goal. Though he hears rumors of a quicker road through the hills, he stays true to his plans.

Detours Whatever your life’s road is, you’re bound to face some detours along the way. Nothing ever quite goes according to plan. If you want to push on, you’ll have to learn to roll with the punches. Perseverance separates the successful from the unsuccessful. When something doesn’t work out the way you hoped it would, saddle up again and keep riding. Kick the concept of “giving up” out of your mind. Instead, seamlessly change directions when you have to, and march forward down your road with purpose.

Distractions Besides perseverance, you’ll need plenty of focus to follow your road toward success. Life will throw many distractions your

ly being constructed to allow for inclement weather. For client pleasure, The Phoenix is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system and a full-service bar. Leaving the familiar surroundings of Idaho and embarking on a new business in Arizona wasn’t exactly smooth sailing at first, and as Katelyn took the helm as general manager of The Phoenix, she wasn’t exactly sailing with the wind. Transporting the boat to Arizona was indeed a major undertaking, but getting a lay of the land and finding the right crew took time, patience, and a lot of faith as well. It was when Fred met lead captain and operations manager Clint Sutter that he and Katelyn knew they had the right man for the job. As a licensed captain, certified sailing instructor, and Arizona native, Clint brought more to the table than just being a captain. When starting an operation to launch the only cruising vessel on Lake Pleasant, it’s imperative to have a top-notch guy behind the wheel, and Clint is just that. As the owner of Go Sail Arizona, Clint is highly regarded both here and in Southern California for teaching advanced-level sailing and racing large sailing vessels. “Clint is more knowledgeable about the lake than anyone I know,” Fred says. Indeed, cruising Lake Pleasant is a wonderful way to see the glory of the desert and is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. Clint shares in Fred and Katelyn’s vision of introducing the community to a wonderful oasis in the desert. Most Phoenix residents don’t even know that there’s a wide array of adventures at Lake Pleasant, with cruising just skimming the surface. Clint paints a picture of visitors jumping and swimming off the docks, fishing, and paddleboarding, just to name a few of the neat things you can do in or near the water. The Phoenix set sail in May 2014 and has really floated the 85085 boat. “Folks can come out, fish, have lunch, take a cruise, and still be home in time for dinner,” Clint says. It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to pull off an endeavor like Lake Pleasant Cruises. Customer service and delivering an unforgettable experience for guests is what sets Lake Pleasant

Katelyn behind the bar of The Phoenix.

{ LAKE PLEASANT CRUISES OFFERS A VARIETY OF BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE CRUISES:

Cruises apart from all others throughout Arizona. And Katelyn is now well situated on deck as the general manager of The Phoenix, both on the front line and behind the scenes. Whether she’s managing sales and marketing or mixing cocktails, Katelyn says, “I love interacting with guests and I have learned more on the boats than I could have ever imagined.” With a loving nod, Fred adds, “At 22 years old, she’s doing a darn good job!” One thing is for sure; this water-loving crew is certainly yare!

factor of your skin. What feels good on the skin does not equate to beneficial and safe.

PVP/VA Copolymer This chemical is considered toxic. It can cause some individuals to develop thesaurosis, which is the presence of foreign bodies in the lung from the inhalation of PVP in hair spray. Rats ingested intravenously with PVP developed tumors. PVP is often found in bronzers, eye makeup, and hair products. Propylene Glycol Aside from water, this is the most common moisture-carrying ingredient in personalcare products, and it’s very popular in cosmetics. It’s known to elicit allergic reactions such as hives and is associated with eczema. Safer glycols are gradually replacing propylene glycol. But beware, as propylene glycol is often found in moisturizers and sunscreens. Triclosan Triclosan is a synthetic antibacterial agent that is found mainly in antibacterial soaps but can also be found in some acne prod-

ucts. One of the concerns about triclosan is that it may contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant germs, and it may also negatively alter immune function over the course of life. A good alternative to triclosan is tea tree oil, a powerful antibacterial and antiseptic plant-derived ingredient.

Oxybenzone This is an organic compound generally found in sunscreen products, but it’s also used in nail polish, fragrances, hairspray, and cosmetics. It provides broad-spectrum ultraviolet coverage against both UVA and UVB rays. The concern about oxybenzone is that it may be a potential endocrine disruptor. These disruptions can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, and other developmental disorders. It’s always my goal to help others look and feel good about themselves, inside and out. At the end of the day, we are nothing without our health. Make your budget work for you when investing in your appearance, but remember, cheap products may cost you in the long run.

Hypoallergenic Isn’t Quite All That A product that is said to be hypoallergenic still may provoke an allergic reaction in certain people. Hypoallergenic means “less than,” and the word tells the consumer that the manufacturer believes the product has fewer allergens than other products. There are no federal regulations defining allergens nor are there any guidelines. So, a hypoallergenic label has little meaning.
