It’s definitely been a case of ‘all hands on deck’ this summer at Corum. The firm has been busy preparing a very special item for the autumn – one that’s unique not only in its own collections, but also in watchmaking as a whole: the Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze, in patinated bronze. Unlike other timepieces made with raw bronze, that will age or even deteriorate with time, Corum has pushed the envelope to the limit by developing a fully pre-patinated bronze case. Exclusive to the brand, this treatment gives the piece a more pronounced maritime look, and above all results in a more finely-crafted aspect than raw bronze designs. Each Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze is unique in its own way, too: no two patinas give the alloy exactly the same colouration. “A natural patina builds up over time; our idea was to apply the same principle, halting the process before the alloy actually begins to corrode,” explains Corum CEO Jérôme Biard. “By using this approach, we allow unique colours to emerge in a process akin to pure artistic creation, with each hand-finished watch displaying unique character. The result verges on being a work of Contemporary Art – and that’s right in keeping with the Corum spirit.”
Resplendent in the hues revealed in this way, Corum’s Admiral AC-One 45 Chronograph Bronze has been finished in different shades of brown, ranging from chestnut to chocolate. The dial of the piece has been specially designed in matching teak, featuring a vertical cut resembling that of a historic tall ship’s authentic teak deck – a nod to the seafaring pedigree of the Admirals. Twelve pennants, the traditional hour markers for this collection, are arranged around the dial. Broad, skeletonised hands glide over them, powered by an automatic chronograph caliber boasting a 42-hour power reserve. The watch sits on a leather strap, carefully chosen to match the shades of the 45-millimetre patinated bronze case. “Existing interpretations of bronze are mostly much of a muchness, so we felt it was well worth developing an approach that was more distinctive, more artistic, and more in line with the maritime theme – making it look as though the timepiece had just been recovered after many years on the sea bed. This new composition is the result, exuding singularly imposing character and style,” concludes Jérôme Biard.

The maritime expertise of the brand is born from the convergence of the knowledge and skills of designers, master watchmakers and underwater experts. The new BR 03-92 Diver watch is writing a brand new chapter in the story of the brand’s relationship with the oceanic world. The BR 03-92 Diver is a professional diving instrument, water resistant to 300 meters and driven by a Swiss self-winding mechanical movement with proven robustness and accuracy. With ergonomics perfectly designed for underwater use, the iconic Bell & Ross square case is equipped with a 60-minute calibrated uni-directional rotating bezel, whose luminescent dot at 12 o’clock is used to set time references, both on the surface and at depth. The bezel, designed for professional use, allows immediate calculation of the time spent underwater. It is unidirectional (meaning it can only be rotated in one direction—in this case, anti-clockwise) to prevent the references from being lost. If it is moved accidentally, it automatically shortens the dive time to avoid any risk. Screwed down to withstand the pressure at great depths, the crown of the BR 03-92 Diver is equipped with a guard that guarantees complete protection against impacts and optimal water resistance. The carefully designed crown is also fitted with a rubber insert for improved ergonomics. With its sophisticated design and uncompromised functionality, the new Bell & Ross diving watch is protected by a steel exterior to withstand the rigors of underwater exploration. The case is reinforced with a very thick back (2.80 mm on the BR 03-92 Diver, compared to 1.80 mm on the BR 03-92 Steel), once again guaranteeing extreme water resistance. Invisible from the outside, yet crucial for its reliability, the case of the BR 03-92 Diver is also equipped with a soft iron cage to increase its resistance to magnetic fields.
A further guarantee of flawless water resistance, the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating is an impressive 2.85 mm thick, compared to the 1.50 mm on the classic steel BR 03-92. The deep black dial features indices in skeletonized metal appliqué filled with white Superluminova® for enhanced legibility, thanks to the maximum contrast between the black of the dial and the white of the time indications. The hour hand is orange and the minute hand contains white Superluminova®, allowing them to be distinguished at a glance; the minute hand is also used to calculate the dive time. Finally, the second hand is also filled with white Superluminova® so that the watch’s correct operation is clearly visible, even underwater. The BR 03-92 Diver comes in a water-resistant PELICAN® box, and is available with two straps: the first is made from woven black rubber with a steel pin buckle. The second is in ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric, allowing the watch to be quickly and ergonomically adjusted over the suit thanks to a Velcro closure system. Both have been designed for professional underwater use. Their style instantly evokes the ocean depths.

Heavenly feminity For this new family of contemporary watches with a refined design, Bell & Ross chose the evocative name «Novarosa.» This neologism can be unpacked as follows: First comes the prefix “nova”, taken from supernova, the stars that illuminate the sky with unparalleled brightness at the end of their life. Next, the delicate suffix “rosa”, a tribute to the most feminine colour. No matter the tone of pink—cotton candy, pale, dusky or fuchsia—it is synonymous of seduction and romance. It is also the colour of ingenuity, sensitivity, candor and purity. Finally, the expression “la vie en rose”, life through rose-tinted spectacles, evokes an existence filled with happiness and pleasure. Bell & Ross has chosen this colour for the dials of the three watches, which are subtly decorated with a “deep sunray” pattern. Lastly, “rosa” recalls the stardust caused by the explosion of a supernova, which often takes on this hue. This mysterious cloud sometimes regenerates and triggers the formation of a new star.

With its thin bezel, functional typography and domed plexi glass, it has the appearance of a decidedly modern design from the 50s. New white and vibrant highlights The Neo Plus remains true to the design principles of the original Neo: Its digits have been set in sober, sans serif Helvetica and the round date window matches the shape of the case, making it an essential graphic element of the watch with its contrasting date disk. The Neo Plus is available in five different colours, one of which is completely new. The existing dials in ivory and black as well as the fine sunburst green and blue models are now supplemented by a dial in opaline, a silvery, matt shimmering white. The black dial displays highlights that no Neo has ever had as the MeisterSinger hour hand and the date disk have been designed in a bold red and the green model now sports a red 12-hour index. The Neo Plus of course features a flatdomed glass made of hardened plastic and its screwed back with striking relief pattern makes the stainless steel case water-resistant up to a pressure of three bar. CEO Profile – 5 Questions with Peter Stas 1. Tell us about yourself (your age, likes, dislikes, length of time in the watch industry?) I’m 54 years old, I have been in the watchmaking industry for more than 30 years. I’m quite fond of technology and enjoy keeping up with the latest techy inventions which I work on bringing into the world of watchmaking with innovations like our Horological Smartwatch. 2. Tell us about your company, Frederique Constant. Frederique Constant is a watch manufacturer based in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland. The company is involved in all stages of watch production, from initial design, to final assembly and quality control. Frederique Constant develops, manufactures, and assembles in-house calibers, 24 different versions since 2004. In 2015 Frederique Constant introduced the first Swiss made Horological Smartwatch, powered by MMT SwissConnect and entirely displayed with an analog dial, thereby creating an entirely new watch category in the Swiss watch industry. Frederique Constant watches are defined by their high quality and differentiation and precision in design and manufacturing. Their perceived value, through quality of design, materials, and manufacture is a key component of their success.
Each watch is assembled by hand, with the latest equipment and extensive controls, to ensure maximum quality and durability. The company embraces innovation to offer creativity and exceptional value. For how many years have you been in the watch industry and for how many years have you been running your company? Frederique Constant is celebrating 30 years next year. It’s fantastic to realize how many incredible achievements we were able to accomplish in such a short period of time. Starting with establishing our Accessible Luxury philosophy, which is now a global concept. Also in terms of technical prowess, we were able to bring innovation to the forefront with movements such as our Heartbeat, or timepieces like our perpetual calendar for under 8’000 EUR, or our Horological Smartwatch combining the best of two industries resulting in a traditional looking watch with smart watch capabilities. In addition, this year we introduced our Flyback Chronograph Manufacture, which is considered one of the most complicated movements to create. 4. What car do you drive and why? (Reason for this question is that cars and watches can be linked) I drive a Tesla Model S. This car is very innovative, which I like. Innovation is one of the core values for our company. The Tesla is fast, connected and very well thought out. It is a pleasure to drive and operate via the large screen in the center console. 5. Tell us 5 things on your ‘bucket list’. i. The origins of GoldMan straps GoldMan watch straps arises from consumer demand for quality straps in the Swiss Made watch industry, whereby we can provide an outstanding range for our valued customers that represents impressive value for money whilst also providing a premium quality product. The GoldMan brand is a combination of the two founders’ names, “Gold” from Goldman and “Man” from Hoffman. The capital M is representative of the fork tool used to change watch straps.
Handmade in Germany GoldMan Straps are the highest quality straps in the entire watch industry, made by a company who is a major supplier to many high end and well known Swiss watch brands. Each strap is “Handmade in Germany” and carries the hallmark, “Handgefertigt in Deutschland,” which is an even stronger hallmark than Made in Germany.
Extensive range The straps come in many different materials and price points that are sure to fit every need and budget. At the high end there are alligator straps with alligator on both sides of the strap (not leather on the underside), stingray, sharkskin and ostrich, then lower priced there are sueded leather, carbon grain, and leather with crocodile print, to name a few.
State of the art technology The straps have numerous technological advancements that keep them at the top of the watch strap industry. These advancements include a patented loop anchor that locks the keeper into place. A selection of GoldMan watch straps even have a patented “Aero” lining that is sweat and water resistant, which serves to absorb humidity and improves airflow through small perforations on the underside of the strap.

Isofrane watch straps Dive straps made for divers Sometimes the simplest design is the best… When the first ISOfrane dive strap debuted in the early 60s, it quite literally changed the shape of diving—or at least the shape of dive straps! Before, dive watch straps were usually made from rubber. They were sticky, uncomfortable and would often blister and crack when exposed to the sun, salt and cold. These straps were even harder on the divers wearing them. Without ventilation, the skin didn’t breath. The ISOfrane strap changed all of that.

Our original ISOfrane straps were manufactured using a compound called isoprene. And just what is isoprene? Isoprene is a, liquid hydrocarbon that is obtained in the processing of petroleum and is used as a raw, chemical material. Isoprene was far more durable, and maintained its looks.

The countdown to the launch of the new I.N.O.X. Titanium watch comprised 130 productspecific durability tests, an uncompromising prerequisite for membership of the family. This impressive checklist embraced extreme resistance to the elements, from exposure to repeated thermal shocks, with temperature variations in excess of 60˚C, to conditions endured at an altitude of 21,300 meters, twice the cruising height of an airliner. The extraterrestrial inspiration behind the I.N.O.X. Sky High finds expression in an innovative Naimakka paracord attachment, in white and speckled black, with Technora® inner strings. This para-aramid fiber, eight times stronger than steel, contributes its own galactic endorsement of direct involvement in a robotic rover landing on Mars. Paracord has also been used to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. The combination of the white elements and matt grey sandblasted, highly resistant titanium is reminiscent of astronauts’ outfits. Then it’s time to “put your helmet on”, represented by a transparent, magnifying bumper. This shield-like cover is included with every piece and ensures that everyday adventures only leave behind ingrained memories and not scratches. Further aviationtriggered accents in the proudly function-driven design are red military time printed beneath the crystal, three easily legible, stamped numerals and a planet-earth blue second hand.
