Chronographs Designed Like an F1 Engine Designed for racing drivers, the new Bell & Ross BR-RS17 collection is made up of truly exceptional watches. Their design, inspired by Formula 1, brings together the latest technological advances and the most innovative materials used in the racing world. These quintessential sports timepieces also take the lead in terms of legibility and finishes. This series includes only chronograph models. This complication was invented to measure short periods of time and is considered the most important one in the race world, since it enables the performance of the vehicles on the track to be measured with great accuracy, turning these timepieces into indispensable tools for drivers and timekeepers. They have long since become a key instrument in cockpits, circuits and paddocks. Their mechanism is complex. It often requires a third more components than a conventional watch caliber. Highly sophisticated, their movements are similar to those of highpowered engines, the gems of technology that propel racing cars to incredible speeds.
Since its foundation in 1994, Bell & Ross has helped fighter pilots keep time. Over the years, the brand has become a leading benchmark in the world of aviation. In February 2016, in its permanent quest for new universes to explore, Bell & Ross made its first foray into the racetracks by joining the highly exclusive world of Formula 1 and becoming the official watch partner of the Renault Sport Formula One Team. The prestigious world of motor sport shares many similarities with aviation, Bell & Ross’ first love. In both fields, engineers seek extreme performance, speed and mechanical accuracy.
From the Wheel to the Wrist The new Bell & Ross BR-RS17 collection features a wide range of colour shades. These vivid hues are found on the steering wheel of the Renault F1 single-seater. For example, the flange on the two BR X1 chronographs features the same shimmering tones as the dial wheel at the center of the F1 RS17 steering wheel. These complementary primary colors, rarely used in high-end watches, allow functions to be identified and prioritized. The time, chronograph, date, seconds and power reserve (where applicable) have each their own color. This ensures the display is exceptionally clear and easy to decipher, and read reliably at a glance. On the three watches, the elements relating to the chronograph complication are partially coated in “Renault yellow. Ever since the French constructor entered F1 in 1977, its single-seaters have sported this shade.

This iconic color has been used since Renault first entered Formula 1. It is also found on the internal bezel that features a tachymeter scale used to calculate the speed of a car: an indispensable function for a racing driver’s watch.

5 Questions with
Carlos Rosillo CEO / Co-Founder of Bell & Ross Watches
1. Tell us about yourself (your age/your likes/your dislikes/ length of time in the watch industry)
3. For how many years have you been in the watch industry and for how many years have you been running your company ?
I have been in the watch industry for over 25 years, co-founding Bell & Ross in 1992. I was born in Paris in 1965 and a graduate of the prestigious business school based in Paris, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales, HEC. After finishing my studies, I started working as a strategic advisor for Strategic Planning Associates, an American consulting firm. Later, I joined the Banque Bruxelles Lambert France as a manager within the Industrial and Financial Affairs Department.
My adventure with Bell & Ross began in 1992 when I became the CEO and co-founder of the brand that I conceived with my childhood friend and associate, Bruno Belamich. He studied at the ENSCI (French school of industrial design) and developed his thesis around the idea of developing a watch brand …this was the beginning of the Bell & Ross story.
A personal and career highlight for me has been the honour of receiving in 2012, the prestigious commendation of Knight of the French Legion of Honor from General Baptiste, Director of the Musée de l’Armée.
It was a long-time dream project and we both had a common passion for the watch industry and a united goal: to create watches suitable for professional use that adhere to strict military specifications where function takes precedence over design. At Bell & Ross, the essential is never compromised by the superfluous.
Outside of work I enjoy, art, visiting museums, traveling, cooking and swimming. One country that I would like to visit in the future is Australia which is one of the fastest growing markets for Bell & Ross and to pursue my passion for water sports!
The turning point for us came in 1994 with the introduction of our first collection. Today, Bell & Ross’ high standards have been recognised by many professional organizations: the French Air Force, Raid, Submariners, and Anti-Mine Military Squads.
2. Tell us about your company, Bell & Ross Bell & Ross watches were born out of the passion and obsession we have for delivering the clearest and most reliable time to professionals. We wanted to replicate very simple watches from the fifties to seventies which didn’t exist anymore in 1990. The founding idea of Bell & Ross is that time is essential for professionals working under extreme conditions. We guarantee our watches performances by combining and perfecting four essential design principles in each watch: legibility, functionality, precision and water-resistance. With a dual Franco-Swiss culture, we have become a benchmark in the world of professional aviation watches. Our iconic timepiece: the BR01 Carbon - or the simple idea to turn a cockpit instrument panel clock into a wrist watch has revolutionized the traditional watchmaking codes. A circle within a square. It takes its inspiration from the aeronautic instrumentation, an absolute reference as far as readability, reliability and performance are concerned. We are now present in over 75 countries, through a selected network of 800 retailers and 13 exclusive boutiques. In 2016, we also pursued our international development by taking over the distribution in the Asian and Middle Eastern markets, thus creating eight new subsidiaries.
Our goal for the next 20 years is to stay on course and maintain the brand’s fundamentals whilst innovating constantly. At Baselworld 2017, we unveiled some exciting new timepieces including the BR03-92 Diver, the 3rd generation of the Vintage Collection and women’s BRS Nova Rosa ranges to great media and retail acclaim alike, with the core aim of diversifying our already strong customer base. 4. What car do you drive and why? Actually, I am riding a bike to go to work! There is no better way to move in Paris. It is a breath of fresh air and I enjoy passing through the stunning monuments of our beautiful city. It is like being a tourist at home. 5. Tell us 5 things on your ‘bucket list’ • • • • •
Playing the piano wonderfully, as my grandmother did Savoring the passage of time next to my beloved ones As a cigar aficionado, going on the cigar trail in Cuba To be dropped off by helicopter on top of Mont Blanc and ski down the slope And of course, visit Australia!

Bell & Ross
Official Watch Partner of the Renault Sport Formula One Team™ at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix
Since its foundation in 1994, Bell & Ross has helped fighter pilots keep time. Over the years, the brand has become a leading benchmark in the world of aviation. In February 2016, in its permanent quest for new universes to explore across extreme performance, speed and mechanical accuracy, Bell & Ross made its first foray into the racetracks by joining the highly exclusive world of Formula 1 and becoming the official watch partner of Renault Sport Formula One Team. The prestigious world of motor sport shares many similarities with aviation, Bell & Ross’ first love. In both fields, engineers seek extreme performance, speed and mechanical accuracy. To strengthen its continuing partnership in 2017 with Renault Sport Formula One Team™, Bell & Ross have just released the new RS17 Racing Timepiece trilogy launching at Basel world, a series of 3 new high-performance watches inspired by the steering wheel of the new Renault R.S. 17 Racing Car. The BR03-94 RS17, BR-X1 RS17 and BR-X1 Tourbillon Chronograph all feature Carbone Forgé® - Carbon Fibre – Rubber – Titanium – Ceramic, identical to materials used in Grand-Prix racing cars and further linking the world of aviation with motor racing in the use of innovative materials.
The design and colour codes effortlessly exude the aesthetics of the F1 steering wheel and ‘Renault ‘yellow, allowing a prioritization of functions at a glance, with each piece of information paired with a different colour to enable the drive to recognizing them instantly and minimise error. A wide range of vivid colours, rarely used in high-end watches including Flange on the two BR-X1 features the same shimmering tones as the dial wheel at the center of the F1 RS17 steering wheel and Time, Chronograph, Date, Seconds + Power Reserve = their own color. The partnership was again showcased in the spectacular setting of Albert Park at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Renault Driving Team was complemented by exciting new talent, Nico Hulkenberg. The circuit, which lies between artificial lakes and cricket fields, combines fast straights and very demanding slow-speed turns, offering numerous overtaking opportunities for drivers and thrilling action for passionate fans. The racing world’s eyes on Melbourne as the city once again hosted this premier sporting event season opener. With new teams and new drivers, it was a very exciting start to the season.
BR 03 92 Horograph & Horolum | 9
Bell & Ross
Horograph & Horolum The new BR03-92 Horograph and BR03-92 Horolum fit perfectly in the Bell & Ross family of watch-instruments. Travel is their passion, and optimum readability their goal. Their cases, designed in a contemporary style, retake Bell & Ross’ iconic “circle within a square”, reminiscent of the clocks in aircraft cockpits. Aesthetically, these timepieces adopt one of the great precepts of design: “shape induced by function.” Bauhaus, the legendary German school of fine arts is at the origin of this movement characterized by an abundance of right angles, clean lines and minimal ornamentation. Way ahead of its time, this movement established, as early as in the 20s, the foundations of modern design. The BR03-92 Horograph and the BR03-92 Horolum present themselves as the worthy heirs of this avantgarde movement. The BR03-92 Horograph and BR03-92 Horolum have been designed following the principles of industrial aesthetics. Their simple lines, based on a square case, underline the essential. Each of these contemporary timepieces has an extremely defined character and both evoke the world of aviation. The BR03-92 Horograph reminds us of the clocks in airport terminals. Like them, its simple and uncluttered display, features a graphic dial with clear digits. As for the BR03-92 Horolum, it reproduces the codes of lighting in the runway, used to guide pilots night and day. Their name is made up by the common root “Horo”, from the Latin “Hora” (hour), followed by “Graph” (graphics) or “Lum”, from the Latin “Lumen” (light).

BR 03-92 HOROGRAPH This model is intended to inform the traveller with the utmost clarity and precision. Its graphics are very elaborate and the display is as rigorous as those of airport clocks.
BR03-92 Horograph
THE CASE: Boasting the iconic Bell & Ross shape, it is made of micro-blasted steel with a matte finish. The technique consists of high-pressure spraying of tiny glass beads onto the surface of the metal. This roughens it, gives it a uniform appearance and a high purity tone of grey. For the first time in a square steel case, the finish is matte and therefore anti-reflective, avoiding reverberations in sunlight. This process reinforces its extremely graphic look and recalls its utilitarian principle. THE DIAL: its design is simple. The baton indexes, reinforced by baton-shaped hands, guarantee an extremely easy reading. This type of display is now a classic in the world of watchmaking. Its effectiveness no longer needs to be proven. Indexes and hands interact with the black/white contrast, which also guarantees optimum readability.

THE CASE: its shape recalls the BR-01 of the early days. Microblasted steel is also used to dress the case and gives it a unique purity.
This model evokes light (“Lumen”) and readability. The Superluminova® coating facilitates reading by day and night. It is a watch that is very well suited for ‘night owls’.
BR03-92 Horolum
THE DIAL: it is made of micro-blasted brass-rhodium with the same look of the case. With an identical finish, these two elements make up a homogeneous block of the same colour. The dial is formed by two superimposing metal plates with a sandwich construction. The grey upper section is cut away around the numerals and indices, revealing the photoluminescent coating covering the lower plate. With its incomparable brilliance, the Superluminova® C3 tinted green is ultraphosphorescent and lasts a long time in the dark. It also allows persistent reading of the time, even at night. The dial only shows four figures: 12, 3, 6, and 9. Their shape and positioning are reminiscent of the graphics traditionally used by Bell & Ross.

14 | Eterna Super Kontiki
Super Kontiki
Revival of an Icon Since 1962, the name Super KonTiki has been synonymous among divers for outstanding reliability and precision. Today, the first diver’s watch with a rotating bezel from the House of Eterna is a timekeeping icon both on land and below the surface. This latest revival model is limited to 888 watches. When Eterna developed its first KonTiki models back in 1958 to commemorate a daring expedition across the Pacific, a unique success story for the art of Swiss watchmaking began. The watch line rapidly established itself as a benchmark for extreme sportiness, absolute reliability and precision, ruggedness and resilience. It has remained so to this day, almost five decades on. Even the earliest KonTiki steel cases were water-resistant to 200 metres. In 1962, Eterna also developed the Super KonTiki for professional divers, the first diver’s watch with a rotating bezel. Its large, highly legible numerals supplied divers with the information they needed to time decompression stops correctly during ascents. Now, Eterna pays tribute to this unmistakable icon of timekeeping both above and below the surface with the launch of new Super KonTiki models inspired by the 1960s’ and 1970s’ originals. The new watches have unmistakably inherited the solid case with its contoured sides, as well as the characteristic rotating bezel with its chunky, knurled edges, from their predecessors. The triangular indices, shaped like a compass needle, are likewise a stylistic element that characterized the first KonTiki watches. The robust, strikingly sporty exterior combined with the reliable automatic movement predestines the Super KonTiki to be the ideal companion for modern adventurers and explorers who attach value to having their own individual sense of style.
One watch, three straps For all those in search of something special, Eterna presents the Super KonTiki Black Limited Edition. For this version, limited to just 888 watches, the case comes shrouded in mysterious, jet-black. The orangecoloured, SuperLuminova-coated hands and luminescent dots adjacent to the hour indices stand out even more prominently against the likewise jet-black dial and guarantee perfect legibility whatever the lighting conditions. The Super KonTiki Black Limited Edition comes with a black milanese bracelet, a black nato strap with a central orange stripe that exactly matches the colour of the hands, and a black leather strap.

16 | Eterna Bronze Manufacture
Eterna marks the 70th anniversary of Thor Heyerdahl’s legendary KonTiki expedition with a bold new limited edition timepiece manufactured, for the very first time, out of bronze.
This special collection dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the KonTiki expedition is limited to 300 pieces and is the perfect partner for today’s explorers who need a stylish timepiece that they can rely on as they embark on their very own adventures.
Iconic Design
The use of bronze has a long and renowned nautical history. For centuries, ships have relied on this metal alloy for its exceptional strength and resistance to rust and erosion. Even when it is in constant contact with salt water, bronze shows hardly any signs of corrosion, making it an excellent choice for the case of the new adventurous Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition.
In celebration of this important anniversary, the new Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture Limited Edition continues the magnificent story of the KonTiki adventure with a bold and highly recognizable design. Triangular luminescent hour markers are contrasted against a jetblack, granite-patterned dial that provides excellent legibility, while a unidirectional rotating bezel frames the dial with a ‘no decompression limits scale’. This ‘no decompression limits scale’ provides divers with a useful backup to their diving computers as it indicates the amount of time a diver can spend at a particular depth before he will have to decompress. With a water-resistance of 200 metres, the Eterna KonTiki Bronze Manufacture is ready for adventures both on the surface of the water and at the depths of the ocean. The diving style has not been neglected either, as the timepiece is fitted with a water-resistant leather strap that is durable and comfortable and whose dark brown colour brings out the warmth of the bronze case.
The Beauty of Bronze
Bronze is able to resist the agressivity of salt water thanks to its ability to superficially oxidize and create a greenish/brown copper oxide layer that protects it from the elements. This layer is called a patina and develops differently for each and every wearer, making it a practical, yet stylish material for a watch’s case. This ancient alloy is highly appreciated by watch lovers for its everevolving colour, but also for its aged and weathered look that rhymes so perfectly with adventure, exploration, courage and strength. It is the perfect material for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the famous KonTiki expedition due to its vintage look and longstanding connection to the sea.

Edox Delfin Fleet 1650 Limited Edition Says Arqueonautas spokesman Nikolaus Graf Sandizell of the search for the lost fleet: “There is no certainty, there is only adventure. We want this important UCH (underwater cultural heritage site) to be protected and the amazing tale of the events in 1650 to be preserved for future generations, and especially so for those who have a bearing in the events; ASUCH and Maresearch work closely together with the archaeologists of Indonesia’s Makassar Bureau for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, supplying research expertise, logistics, documentation and publications.” Edox, too, is celebrating this great adventure with the release of a new timepiece, the Edox Delfin Fleet 1650 Limited Edition. The 43 mm watch, which is water-resistant to 200m, features a stunning bronze case, the same material used on the fittings of 17th Century Dutch ships. The watch, a true revival of the vintage Delfin timepiece collection, will of course get its own patina as bronze interacts when in contact with water or moisture. Powered by an ultra-reliable mechanical Swiss-made movement, the watch has a steel case-back decorated with an historic wind rose that featured in drawings in the documents that led to the last resting place of the ships. Each watch is also individually numbered and carries an engraved inscription “There is no certainty, there is only adventure.” Presented in a hand-made leather travel pouch, the Edox Delfin Fleet 1650 Limited Edition also comes with a vintage heritage leather strap and a bi-colour NATO strap. Edox has been making exceptional watches since 1884 and is the Premium Partner of the Sauber F1® Team for 2017.
Saving World Maritime Heritage Time is running out for many of the world’s historical shipwrecks. Hundreds of wrecks around the busy sea-lanes of Indonesia’s vast archipelago, relics of the age when men risked life and limb to bring the exotic riches of the Spice Islands back to Europe, are particularly vulnerable. Every wreck has its own story, a unique link to man’s seafaring passion – yet due to looting, destructive fishing practices, the ravages of time and the high cost of survey and reconnaissance operations to proactively protect these heritage sites, most shipwrecks are in danger of being lost forever. Now Switzerland’s family-owned and Jurabased boutique watchmaker Edox has announced it will underwrite a fascinating project to research, record and protect one such site for future generations. Edox and the Arqueonautas Fashion Brand are supporting a joint project by Indonesia’s Bureau for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the German-based Association for Saving of Underwater Cultural Heritage (ASUCH) and the archaeological company PT Maresearch Indonesia for a survey of what is considered to be the final resting place of five ships of the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, the famed Dutch East India Company. In the last week of February 1650 the ships, led by the flagship Tijger, left Batavia, the company’s headquarters on the island of Java, for Ternate, one of the legendary Spice Islands of the Moluccas. The fleet never reached its destination. Just before daybreak on March 4 1650, the five
ships were driven by a squall onto a reef off the island of Kabaena in Southeast Sulawesi (Indonesia), stranding nearly 600 crew and passengers on the tiny sandbank of Sagori. Against all odds, the shipwrecked yet showed the tenacity and persistence to recover most of the fleet’s cargo and armament – and, faced with being marooned, in the next weeks even constructed a new vessel, christened “The Yacht of Five”, out of the wreckage. When in May a small Dutch squadron arrived to the rescue, they not only found more salvaged goods and guns than they could load into their vessels, but the new ship launched and nearly ready to set sail. The astonishing tale of Tijger and her sister ships might have been lost had it not been for the rediscovery of a diary of the ship’s council in the National Archives of the Netherlands. Guided by the diary, a team of researchers led by Maresearch and Indonesia’s regional Bureau for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in April last year rediscovered what appears to be the remains of Tijger and another, as yet unidentified, vessel. Edox is proud to support a detailed reconnaissance and survey of the site in April/ May this year - exactly 367 years after Tijger and her sister ships were lost.
18 | Wenger Roadster Black Night

Wenger
Roadster Black Night As its name implies, the new ROADSTER BLACK NIGHT is inspired by night-time. It gives form and substance to an unusual design featuring a clever blend of materials, finishes and details. In keeping with the Wenger quality tradition, the new ROADSTER BLACK NIGHT line stems from a Swiss Made watchmaking approach backed by a three-year international warranty that is an eloquent token of reliability. Each watch in the collection features a sturdy sapphirecoated crystal, a 316L stainless steel case, a Swiss Made quartz movement and water resistance to 100 metres. All models feature a 45mm diameter stainless steel case, bearing powerful and vigorous testimony to time and exuding even greater energy in the black PVD finish version. The black dial is subtly highlighted by a play on red and white effects recalling the Swiss flag and the essence of the brand. The standout red accents are provided by the ROADSTER BLACK NIGHT signature appearing below the Wenger logo, as well as the seconds hand. Creating a striking contrast with the black dial background, the white hour-markers and the rims of the three chronograph counters lend an elegant touch to this model with its sporty yet refined design. The luminescent hands, hourmarkers and Wenger logo ensure perfect readability in the dark. Victorinox Swiss Army I.N.O.X. Carbon
Dense. Durable. Dependable. The I.N.O.X. Carbon Continues to Defy the Limits of Time. Each new I.N.O.X. timepiece forges a further link between authenticity and innovation. The latest chapter in this quest for perfection is the I.N.O.X. Carbon. Made from a carbon resin composite that has protected space shuttles from reentry temperatures in excess of 1,260°C, it fearlessly heads for elevated performance levels. Durable materials and construction join forces with dependable functionality. The Victorinox Swiss Army flagship collection reinforces its relentless commitment to simultaneously measuring and defying time. When perfection is the destination, the design journey has to be spoton. The I.N.O.X. Carbon combines extremely high structural rigidity with scratch resistance and hypoallergenic properties. A total of 130 homologation tests are the first milestone facing I.N.O.X. timepieces. In the I.N.O.X. Carbon, the seal of quality finds clear expression via a monobloc dial with stamped markers and digits to ensure shock resistance. Its striking case gets extra shielding on everyday adventures from a transluscent grey, removable bumper. A Naimakka paracord attachment is an adventure-loving alternative to a genuine rubber strap, both in black. Traditionally used for parachute suspension lines, and with a breaking strength of 250 kg, the multi-strand nylon cord is permanently ready for 24/7 action. Meticulous details are the undisputed building blocks of perfection. From the red military time printed beneath the crystal, to the subtle marbled effect affording each piece intrinsic uniqueness, the I.N.O.X. Carbon stays true to the quest. The watch’s dense, matte black appearance makes a sleek modern statement, hinged on an industrial inspiration: a visible link between the proven Victorinox pioneering spirit and a high-tech present and future. Innovation is never a final destination. It’s a borderless map.

The origins of GoldMan straps
Watch Straps A Swiss timepiece purchased from 8th Avenue Watch Co. is an investment and a watch strap is a key accessory. Introducing – GoldMan watch straps, a high quality range to complement your watch.
GoldMan watch straps arises from consumer demand for quality straps in the Swiss Made watch industry, whereby we can provide an outstanding range for our valued customers that represents impressive value for money whilst also providing a premium quality product. The GoldMan brand is a combination of the two founders’ names, “Gold” from Goldman and “Man” from Hoffman. The capital M is representative of the fork tool used to change watch straps.
Handmade In Germany GoldMan Straps are the highest quality straps in the entire watch industry, made by a company who is a major supplier to many high end and well known Swiss watch brands. Each strap is “Handmade in Germany” and carries the hallmark, “Handgefertigt in Deutschland,” which is an even stronger hallmark than Made in Germany.
Extensive Range The straps come in many different materials and price points that are sure to fit every need and budget. At the high end there are alligator straps with alligator on both sides of the strap (not leather on the underside), stingray, sharkskin and ostrich, then lower priced there are sueded leather, carbon grain, and leather with crocodile print, to name a few.
State Of The Art Technology The straps have numerous technological advancements that keep them at the top of the watch strap industry. These advancements include a patented loop anchor that locks the keeper into place. A selection of GoldMan watch straps even have a patented “Aero” lining that is sweat and water resistant, which serves to absorb humidity and improves airflow through small perforations on the underside of the strap.
