President Alejandro Giammattei participated in the XXIII International Congress of Maritime Law and XVI Maritime Port Congress, where he reaffirmed that these centers contribute to the development of nations.

During the event, the president “reiterated the commitment to look to the sea and generate competitive ports for the development” of the Central American nation. His administration has restructured the National Port Commission, which has promoted the system’s transformation.

During the pandemic, he said, these ports were a bastion. “These ports did not close for a single day. Regarding cargo, we were the least affected nation in the Americas. We were the most resilient economy in Latin America.”

He stated that the technological innovation of these institutions is essential. It is crucial to offer logistical support in implementing advanced digital systems, which allow trade optimization for autonomy and orderly work.

“We continue to promote changes in various aspects. Coordina- tion has begun with projects to strengthen port infrastructure, to make it more efficient and transparent,” stressed the head of state. He also emphasized that “the more competitive the ports are, the higher the country’s performance will be.”
